I don't get any metallic or cinnamon scents from Djinn at all. On me, it's a warm, "golden," slightly smokey scent. One of the other reviewers mentioned "salty," and I think that fits as well. I rather like it, though I don't know how much I would wear it.

I adore March Hare. It smells like a fresh, juicy apricot and spice pastry. Utterly mouthwatering. Of course, when I asked my brother, he thought it smelled "artificial". Pah. Boys. What do they know, anyway?

To the Totally Uneducated Nose: In the vial: Onions? Heavy cooking spices, definitely. Smells like something I'd love to eat (Indian food? maybe?) but definitely not to smell like. Wet, on: Curry powder that quickly changes to lavender and some other herbal something. Drydown: This smells a lot like my best friend's cologne. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. I didn't like his cologne at first, but it sort of grew on me. He absolutely refuses to tell anyone what he wears, so I couldn't say exactly what it smells like, but I sort of like it. There's still an undercurrent of curry, though. Overall: I might keep this for the scent association, but certainly not to wear out and about. It's making me rather hungry.

In the vial and on my skin, Hamadryad smells like Pepto-Bismol. Not an unpleasant scent, necessarily, but not something I enjoy smelling. It disappears after a few minutes, leaving a pleasant but nondescript floral/woody/powder sort of smell.

On my recent trips, I packed all my imps and things into an altoids tin with a bit of padding and put the tin in my baggie. As with everyone else, no trouble at all.

Looking for any Harry Potter scent recommendations
gravedigger replied to Trish's topic in Recommendations
I'm currently waffling about Bewitched, Dee, Poisoned Apple (well, it's not specifically Harry Potter, but it is very fairy-tale ish), and thinking about trying to make Boomslang work. The Snake Oil in it hates me, but maybe in a locket... -

I SO can't wait for this book. And the first thing that comes to mind is Snake Oil, though it doesn't work at all on me and I likely won't be wearing it. For Nagini and Slytherin and all that, you know. I'll have to ponder some more... it's certainly an excellent question! (edited because I'm out of my mind) -
I'm just now starting to get into fruity scents, and I'm amazed at how dribbly and juicy some of these smell. Anyway, Frumious Bandersnatch is spicy, juicy, yummy, plum-flavored bubblegum. And yet, I love it.

Let me first say that cherries do dark, unholy, unspeakable things on my skin. I HATE cherries. That said, Inferno is ALL cherry. Eventually, I get a touch of cinnamon and almond, but for the most part, it remains cherrycherrycherryness. Not a good thing for me. Shame - I love the concept behind it.

Skeletal limbs of birch and fir coated in a thick, impenetrable blanket of snow. This is the death of the year personified. Oh, this is wonderful. Wet, Talvikuu smells very woodsy and icy. Initially, it's really strong and tends to make me a bit sneezy, but once it dries down, it turns into this gorgeous, cold, sweet pine. I want to try it as a room scent, but I'm not sure that I want to sacrifice any of it! As for the comparison to Nuclear Winter, I definitely get some of that, but Nuclear Winter is like minty flowers, whereas this is slightly minty trees.

in the bottle: F5 smells almost like some perfume my mom wears - very mature (but not old-lady-ish) and pretty. on my skin: this is a really light, citrusy, refreshing scent. It would be a good room scent. overall: pretty, but not something I would ever wear.
-
This is really intriguing. It actually does smell smoky and hot - which I didn't think was possible for a perfume. It is very acrid, and it actually sort of burns my nostrils. On the other hand, my friend thinks it smells like flowery old lady perfume. Burning flowers, perhaps.

I had high hopes for this one, but on me it smells like toothpaste. Maybe berry toothpaste, possibly. It's not particularly minty - I guess it's like toothpaste that's been used, when it's all frothy and no longer has much of a taste. That's a totally nasty mental picture, but there you are.

in the imp: MoonlightGdess said it perfectly: fresh-scented toilet cleaner. on my skin: dirt and water, but with something that really nauseates me. I have no idea what to call it. overall: a definite NO.

in the imp: Lemon Pledge. on my skin: Lemon Pledge. I love cleanliness, but I'm not sure I like to smell like a cleaner.

at first: Sweet, buttered, almondy rum. Gag. on: take each characteristic above and multiply it times 50. My stomach is churning and my head is spinning. Off to swaps, and fetch me some rubbing alcohol. ----- eta: Port-au-prince got mixed with some De Sade on my fingertips, and now it smells like a spice cabinet. Lovely, but I don't think I can stand the initial booziness.

initially, Nephilim made me cough. It smells woody and dirty and astringent, but there is a bit of fruityness underneath. There's the same wood note as Talvikuu, although that could be because I have both of them on my arm, but Nephilim is a lot sharper. Yeah. Trees and dirt. After a rain, and after the loggers have been hacking all the trees down.

After reading all the reviews, I ordered a 5 ml of this unsniffed because it sounded so completely perfect for me. In the bottle, Snake Oil is about what I expected - nice, incensey vanilla. Yummy. It stays about the same on me for a bit, but after it dries, it turns to burnt coffee. I guess I'll have to try aging it for a while. I'm definitely keeping my 5 ml, though - it intrigues me. It definitely has the potential to be very, very good.

Dark chocolate with a heavy cream undertone. In the bottle, The Candy Butcher is gorgeous, seductive, wonderful dark chocolate. I seriously contemplated drinking it. Wet on my skin, it's still pretty chocolatey, but the "creaminess" bit is quite obvious. After it dries, I get a vague chocolate smell, but it's mostly this onion scent that I associate with ground beef for tacos. mmm... Onions and chocolate. I may have to age this one for a while.

This is WONDERFUL. I haven't had any plain milk chocolate for a long time, but every time I wear Bliss, I feel like I have. Today, I put some in the chunk of hair that always falls across my face, and it kept me very happy all morning. I'm going to need gallons of this. It lasted from my application at 7 a.m. to at least 1 p.m.

Chimera is delicious. Cinnamon is really the only note I get, but it smells different from regular cinnamon straight out of the jar. It's a lot sweeter - presumably, that's the honeysuckle. When my friend smelled this on me, she said, "You know, I don't think fearsome monsters are supposed to smell like cinnamon cookies. The lady that runs that perfume company has it all wrong." Personally, I like cinnamon, and I like cookies. The aptness of the name makes no difference.

I was expecting cinnamon and clove... Unfortunately, in the bottle and on me, Mars is weird, soapy, old-lady floral. Not a even scary, powerful old lady... this is the kind of old lady that sits on the porch and knits all day.
-
Soap and ... something flowery. Likely violets, but my nose isn't very well-educated. I put it on and was reminded forcibly of some cream or soap my grandma used to use. I love my grandma, but I certainly don't want to smell like her. Oddly enough, this got me my first BPAL compliment ever. Perhaps the girl at the store has strange tastes. Not really a keeper.

As a random, vanilla-related thought, I just have to say that, on me, Dee is a gorgeous, dusty, bookish vanilla. Vanilla books. I'm in heaven.

So, the other day, I put on some Hell's Belle (my first BPAL order!) and went out to read my book in the hammock under the big willow tree in our yard. I was absolutely exhausted (I had stayed up all night with some girlfriends the night before), so I knew that I wasn't going to be reading for long, but I thought I'd try it anyway. It was about 2 o'clock in the afternoon, approximately 100 degrees out, the birds were singing, there was a nice breeze blowing, and the last thing I remember thinking before I drifted off to sleep (ten minutes after sitting down ) was "man, this is absolutely perfect for this moment." I didn't really like the scent itself (I hate orangey smells, and florals aren't really my thing either), but, combined with the soporific environment, it was stunning. Of course, by the time I woke up, the scent was all gone (or maybe it wasn't - I went straight from the hammock to my bed for several more hours of sleep - I wasn't paying much attention to anything). Sorry if that was hard to follow - I tend to go a bit parentheses-happy.
