Wow, this is awesome when wet--it smells like the whiskey-filled dark chocolates we used to get from German friends--high-quality and rich, and VERY boozy. I could never wear this to work! It fades really quickly though and I'm left with just a hint of cognac/whiskey after just a couple of hours. Still, it's great while it lasts.

White Chocolate, Strawberry, and White Pepper Truffle
Iceblink replied to thekittenkat's topic in Lupercalia
Last year's White Chocolate & Strawberry was plastic FAIL on me, but I love the idea of a chocolate/strawberry blend, so I keep trying...this version isn't quite so plasticky but the strawberry is still very fake on me. The pepper note perks things up a bit but that strawberry note--it's so hit-and-miss, the Lab's strawberry, and I'm afraid this is another miss. -
Milk Chocolate and Matcha Green Tea Ganache Truffle
Iceblink replied to TheIceMaiden's topic in Lupercalia
Citrusy green tea! This is so refreshing and zesty. I'm not really getting a chocolate vibe from it but the green tea is beautiful. Quite strong, too. Very nice and fresh. -
This smelled of wonderfully tart, strong key lime with sweet dark chocolate in the vial but once on my skin it went to straight-up plastic in record time. After a couple of hours I am getting a little more lime but it's very faint. Sad!

White Chocolate, Black Raspberry, and Apricot Cordial Truffle
Iceblink replied to thekittenkat's topic in Lupercalia
I'm one of those always calling out for MORE RASPBERRY so I was happy to see this blend this year, and it doesn't disappoint. Wet, it's an even blend of the three notes, and the white chocolate is creamy and sweet and behaving nicely on me for a change. Dry, this is almost all black raspberry with a hint of apricot and it is *delicious*! I really love it; it doesn't seem to have the greatest throw, but I'll give it a full day's wear and see how it performs. -
I knew I'd be pleased with this--I love O, I love Snake Oil, and this pretty much smells like a mix of the two. The honey is more obvious at first and the SO takes prominence as it dries. Smells great now but I'm *really* giddy thinking about how this will smell in a year or so! Winner!

Leather and sandalwood, all right--a very soft, "new" leather and an almost creamy sandalwood. The leather is more dominant. This is a more ladylike leather than some of the other leather-focused blends. Pretty good throw. I did get a hint of that sour note others have mentioned at first but it went away fast.

This is very grapey when wet but the drydown brings out the honey and pomegranate--but it also brings out the sweet pea and carnation, which are quickly turning to old-lady powder on me. Sad!! It's very sweet and soft until that stage, though--if those notes work on you you'll probably love this.

Mmm...this smells WARM...and like a good men's cologne or really quality incense. Heavy on the sandalwood and tobacco with a twist of the citruses to give it a brighter edge. I get a whiff of clove deep down underneath. This may be a little too masculine for me but it's beautifully blended and overall really nice.

Dusty herbs, but the moss and patchouli really start coming forward as this dries. I'm not getting any florals here except for a slight soapiness. Interesting blend but definitely not me.
-
Dry, dusty, and woody-herbal. This isn't good on me; it's got that crumbly/powdery scent to it that means a floral is going very, very wonky. Alas!
-
I'm surprised by this one--it's lighly aquatic and lightly floral and a lot nicer on me than I'd expect! Very faintly herbal but the water and flowers are mostly what I smell. It has a cool, clear feeling, very delicate. Nice!

I'll agree that this is oddly floral-sweet considering the official notes here. Maybe there's a touch of dragon's blood in this (the oil IS red) giving it that quality. The smoke and coals aren't from a blazing fire but from dying-down embers. Interesting blend and something that might work for people who usually can't do smoky/burny scents.

Like many have said so far this is crazily woody when wet...not bad but there's only so much of that I can take...but as it dries the rosy amber comes forward and it's lovely. I get a Miller's Daughter vibe from this too. The sandalwood is coming out more and more the longer I wear it. This has a nice dry, aged quality to it and is a bit sweet from the amber. I tend to amp wood horribly so I like that the wood really calmed down in this after a few minutes. Will try it again, definitely!

This smells like warm grains drying in the sun, slightly sweet and slightly herbal. Much nicer than something containing chicken feet should ever smell!
-
I got a big wallop of musk from this when it was wet too--made me think of Brom Bones, of all things--then the leather took over and WHOA yeah that's a lot of leather. Mossy leather. Great if you love leather!
-
Surprisingly good on me for a leather blend--the amber is dominant here, and it's soft and powdery. I can smell the oppoponax and leather but they're blended in so well that the leather doesn't go nuts here like it usually does. This is somewhat masculine but the sweetness of the amber and tobacco keep it from being OMGMANLY. I'll try this again for sure.

MALEDICTION CLAW POLISH Gloss Abyssal black. The description doesn't lie--this is so black that I thought my bottle was missing the label because the black logo is almost impossible to see next to the polish itself. It makes me think of Agent Cooper's line about liking his coffee "black as midnight on a moonlight night" on Twin Peaks. And it's so opaque!

This is beautiful. Amber and soft musks, and it's quite sweet, but I smell the myrrh in the background giving this a heavier edge. So far the jasmine isn't killing everything else here and I'm hoping it'll stay so nicely behaved. The sandalwood becomes more prominent as it dries. Really gorgeous and doesn't smell like anything else I've tried--I passed on The Girl. I'll try this again once the imp has aged a bit.

"Honey-drizzled bread"--absolutely; this reminds me of toast with honey! The kvass gives it a slightly fermented quality but it's very slight--this does not smell overly alcoholic. It's delicious and cozy. I'm not picking up anything that smells like meat yet--if I do, this'll be right out the door, but right now I really like it.
-
This smells almost exactly like O on me...O plus beeswax, so it's a bit heavier. It's got AMAZING throw. I love O so this is really good too.
-
Amber, yes, and I get the "rose-infused" part--there's rose there but it's very subtle. The citrus, apricot, and honey are wafting in and out. The sandalwood is there, making a lovely background note. This is a smooth blend and surprisingly light, considering the notes--usually amber and citrus and honey really jump off my skin. Very nice!

WHOA cypress. Almost all I can smell here is cypress and lettuce and herbs. Where's the tobacco and plum??
-
Carnation is usually HUGE fail on me but I had to see what all the fuss was about with Hod. I get it--whatever else is in here (amber? almond? vanilla?) makes this almost...carnation pastry! It's beautiful and not flowerflowerflowerPOOFpowder! on me like carnation usually is. Very feminine and warm. Glad I tried it--I may need more!

I get loads of mint from Spooky at first but it fades fast into a mere shadow of itself...and then it's coconut rum! A little bit of cocoa but this isn't an overtly chocolate/cocoa blend; it's all about the coconut. Really delicious! It's threatening to turn a bit plasticky on me so I need to test it again before I make the bottle decision but so far, so good.
