    Job Interview Recommendations

queen of diamonds and dorian have been very good to me in getting interviews and the contract-to-hire position that i'm starting next month. they're both light, pretty, not in your face, and neither overly feminine nor masculine...

    Where is this scent?

if it's at black broom and not available through bpal, then it's either a black broom exclusive blend or a oil (magickal or otherwise) that the powers that be at bpal have decided would be better sold through their wholesalers.

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Once I get my hands on a copy, I might try and hack together an Access database from it. I need a little practice with my database skills, they're getting rusty. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> if you're just looking to populate, i can poop out some of the tables from the search engine (edited) for you. and i am really tempted to report that as infringing on the information in the search engine - especially since there's NO WAY they could have gotten everything from the search engine, as i record all of the searches and i am the only one who does wildcard searches that involve SF restrictions. in any case, i've taken down the search family results in there and may get rid of the wildcard.

    Traveling with BPAL

i took mine to puerto rico, antigua, sint maarten, and the bahamas, but i was on a boat.. airport-wise, i was only stateside.
  8. while ted (who usually responds to email) is at a conference until the 3rd, brian and anthony are answering email, though it may be a bit more of a delay than normal as they're doing their normal thang (and possibly packing up the lab!) on top of that. i imagine it'd be easier for them if you inquired about specific scents rather than ingredients, for what that's worth. you can get scents without those things by going to the advanced search and searching for "% patchouli rum rose cinnamon" and selecting the "and not" search type underneath it. --- you'll have about 230 options when beth (who's with ted) gets back, i can talk to her about possibly adding an allergen filter to the search engine, but until i've had a chance to make some better management tools for it, it's not likely to happen IMMEDIATELY... but perhaps in the next year or so.

    search engine stuff

the search by scent families is now live. the reviews have been updated, as well. there are 5 scents not in there for scent families. coincidentally, they also don't have reviews. i'm sure you'll all be surprised to hear that they are the 5 new scents from the wolf and storm moon updates. i'll hopefully have that information up there this week. *mwuah*
  10. i think dracul is my favorite clovey scent.

    Thread hijacks

we want to take a more pro-active response towards thread hijacks. there is nothing wrong with threads deviating from the original conversation (and it's quite natural), but there comes a point in time where the primary conversation is different enough from the first that the original subject gets lost (which is a clumsy way of saying that if the thread's initially about beth's latest updates and all of a suddent it's about midget porn, it needs to be split) we will do one of two things to a hijack: - split it into its own thread - split out and merged with the 'thread hijack refugees' thread in randomness. at this time, there will be no warning given to thread hijackers (in part because it takes several people to hijack a thread), but if there is a pattern of continual hijacking, things will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. while there are now fifteen people involved in moderating the boards, we still can't be everywhere at once, so please feel free to report threads that have been hijacked.

    Queen of Diamonds

what they said... though i'll add that i seriously didn't really think it'd work, because citrus usually takes over and pale flowers tend to get the funky soapiness to them... but this works so beautifully.

    Rose Red

almost a year later, my original review works for 04 as well as 03, though now i've got two bottles of my own *glee* for what it's worth, the rose red 04 is greener wet than the 03. the 04's got a bit of a chilly dampness to it that the 03 didn't have.

    Mantis

mmm this is like the apothecary meets haunted only better. i like it alot. lightly citrus, grounded with a light musk and the amber. yum. this just may be a 5ml bottle!

    Manila

bottle: i am such a geek that when i smelled it, i didn't think "hey, banana," i thought "hey, isoamyl acetate" -- a unique ester that happens to be a component in artificial banana flavorings and fragrances. it's a very compact, in your face banana, something you don't see everyday. but, there's a vibrancy and greenness to the banana that the ester lacks that comes from the leaf no doubt. wet: almost immediately, there's a one-two punch: a lush juiciness (more than just banana) comes out, as well as a floral. relaxing. i like dry: it still keeps that lush juicy floral. i'll be taking it with me on the cruise... it's another light scent. yum.

    Belle Époque

i haven't tried it on yet, and with all the sniffing i've done, its quite possible my nose has quit on me, but i smell NOTHING in the bottle even though i see the yellow-tinged oil inside. i shall try again tomorrow, and update accordingly... day2 in the bottle: verrrrrry light. and sweet. i really can only smell it when it's moving. i'm not sure if it's vanilla or the sweet opium that i'm smelling, but it's very faint -- i can see why i smelled nothing yesterday. wet: it's still that faint sweetness. hardly there. i can't smell it enough to pick it apart. i rubbed it in my skin and added some more and i still can't smell it more than a few inches away. drying: the sandalwood peeps out, but it's still very faded and light. dry: more of the same. conclusion: what i can smell is nice, but it's so light that i had to use a huge amount, rubbing it into my skin and adding mre, before i could smell it on me. and i'm NOT a slatherer, my skin's on the dry side so just a little oil sinks right in usually. i may use this to help tone down the queen as her sandalwood can get quite agressive, but otherwise, it's going in the swap pile.

    Can we order single notes?

i unapproved several messages in this topic as they are no longer relevant since single notes are no longer sold in bottles OR imps. as such, i'm also closing the thread.
  19. On me, Zephyr smells a lot like Queen Mab, so if you don't like Queen Mab it may not be the best choice.]<{POST_SNAPBACK}> ah, yeah, they've got a few of the same notes (sandalwood and chinese musk)... but on me, queen mab is richly floral with a lovely sandalwood base, and zephyr is just fresh citrus. m
  20. if it helps any, almost all of those are oriental/gourmand/spicy scents (exceptions: persephone & endymion, which are fruity-florals, and danube, which is an ozone/marine/fresh) i would say good ones to try (just because of how immediately different from other scents they are) - roses: zombi, red rose - mints: shattered, cathode - ozone: tempest, neo-toyko - metallic: mercury - salty: jolly roger, dragon tears - boozey: grog, roadhouse - citrusy: carnal, zephyr note that these aren't necessarily my favorites.. but imo very different from the ones you've selected.

Once an order is placed, it is final.

as a failsafe, go to the post office and pick up a mail forwarding card there's a checkmark for temporary moves.

    Traveling with BPAL

i wasn't thinking when i flew out here in july and left my impage in my checked baggage. one imp leaked, and not very much. but the following airports haven't had issues with imps: albuq, denver, cincinatti, chicago, cedar rapids, moline, des moines. i'll let you know about atlanta and ft lauderdale come january but really, most of the imps that get swapped go by air mail, and in unpressurized cabins - and most don't have issues doing so.

    Chaos Theory

Each bottle of Chaos Theory is truly unique, a fragrant fractal, an exercise in the joy of chance and uncertainty! Each is a one-of-a-kind, utterly random combination of scents, the composition of which is based on whim, mood and gut instinct. Each bottle is numbered, and comes with a small parchment certificate. chaos 17 softly lemon, aquatic, slightly floral. i like this one the best of the 6 chaos theories now in the package, though #111 still has my love. my my my ... i don't think i've ever liked a lemon scent like this - but then, i don't think any of the lemons have been so lightly beautiful (as i said in my #95 review, lemon tends to overwhelm everything else and take over). this is actually what i thought june gloom would smell like - and if it had, i would've kept my bottle Previously reviewed by supasonicsage, hypothermya, with coffee spoons and harlequin.

    Chaos Theory

chaos 95 when it was wet, there was a sharpness that i associate with apricot in it, but i never smelled it as it dried... it's got lemon or lemon verbana in it. the scent loves me like none other and dominates as usual. as it's drying, there's something woody astringent coming out that reminds me of an old witch hazel astringent i used to wear, but the lemon is still very present. none of the florals or lavender others have mentioned.
