  1. - citrusy: carnal, zephyr

note that these aren't necessarily my favorites.. but imo very different from the ones you've selected.

On me, Zephyr smells a lot like Queen Mab, so if you don't like Queen Mab it may not be the best choice.]

ah, yeah, they've got a few of the same notes (sandalwood and chinese musk)... but on me, queen mab is richly floral with a lovely sandalwood base, and zephyr is just fresh citrus. m

  2. No scent description available.

this gorgeous oil was an extra in my latest order. it's a dark amber in color, which initially surprised me for some reason.

in the bottle, it took me the longest time to figure out what it smelled like, but while i was mulling some apple cider, it came to me: it smells like spiced mulled apple cider. apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice, cloves, ginger. the apples are really in the background compared to the spices, which is probably why my mind immediately went to uranus as a scent comparison.

wet, it goes through this stage that's similiar to mabon, when the apple and woodsy elements are settling in, and the spices go in the background. there's a green taste to it, but it's very faint, and a slight pumpkin. once, i sniffed something that may have been vetiver, but i'm not sure...

dry, it's very similar to how it is wet, though instead of apples, it's pumpkin. there's also a woodiness that comes out as it ages (and this scent lasts a LONG time - my first time trying it, after countless handwashes, a shower, a bath, and 18 hours, it was still faintly there), when it's woods and spices.

i adore this scent very, very much. it's warm and a celebration of autumn and spicy and just fabulous. :P thanks to the lab for giving me such a fabulous scent, and to Puddin for letting me know its name :D

  3. if it helps any, almost all of those are oriental/gourmand/spicy scents (exceptions: persephone & endymion, which are fruity-florals, and danube, which is an ozone/marine/fresh)

i would say good ones to try (just because of how immediately different from other scents they are)

    - roses: zombi, red rose

    - mints: shattered, cathode

    - ozone: tempest, neo-toyko

    - metallic: mercury

    - salty: jolly roger, dragon tears

    - boozey: grog, roadhouse

    - citrusy: carnal, zephyr

note that these aren't necessarily my favorites.. but imo very different from the ones you've selected.

  4. I do have another question for you imp-travel-savvy people out there.  Has anyone had trouble with their imps leaking due to the pressure change?

i wasn't thinking when i flew out here in july and left my impage in my checked baggage. one imp leaked, and not very much.

but the following airports haven't had issues with imps: albuq, denver, cincinatti, chicago, cedar rapids, moline, des moines. i'll let you know about atlanta and ft lauderdale come january :P

but really, most of the imps that get swapped go by air mail, and in unpressurized cabins - and most don't have issues doing so.

  5. Each bottle of Chaos Theory is truly unique, a fragrant fractal, an exercise in the joy of chance and uncertainty! Each is a one-of-a-kind, utterly random combination of scents, the composition of which is based on whim, mood and gut instinct. Each bottle is numbered, and comes with a small parchment certificate.

softly lemon, aquatic, slightly floral. i like this one the best of the 6 chaos theories now in the package, though #111 still has my love. my my my ... i don't think i've ever liked a lemon scent like this - but then, i don't think any of the lemons have been so lightly beautiful (as i said in my #95 review, lemon tends to overwhelm everything else and take over). this is actually what i thought june gloom would smell like - and if it had, i would've kept my bottle :P

holy mother of fruity sweetness! circus peanuts.. i think there may be some lotus in there, because there's an edge of bubble gum pinkness that lotus likes to bring to the party. there's vanilla in the back, but the pinkness overwhelms it.

  7. chaos 95

when it was wet, there was a sharpness that i associate with apricot in it, but i never smelled it as it dried...

it's got lemon or lemon verbana in it. the scent loves me like none other and dominates as usual. as it's drying, there's something woody astringent coming out that reminds me of an old witch hazel astringent i used to wear, but the lemon is still very present. none of the florals or lavender others have mentioned.

i think there's lotus in here, because i'm getting the bubblegum pink smell that usually accompanies lotus. it's sweet, slightly aquatic... but i'm not a huge fan of it.

  9. pluto is a strange, strange beast.

it's kind of bitter/metallic in the vial.. the moment it touched my skin, it became aquatic. as it's drying, it's kind of like undertow without the rotting wood (though there's still a woody presence) or super strong mint.

not sure if i adore, but i think i like it. we'll have to bond some more.

mmmmm it smells like crushed up red hots, with some sort of a woody base (maybe cinnamon bark?). it kind of reminds me of a spicier hamadryad. how i love thee, uranus. my ruling planet, no less. shame that you are now discontinued.

  11. by default, it searches for 'or' - for queen of spades, you want to search 'and' -- right now, it doesn't recognize phrases, only individual words. when you searched for the caterpiller, if you included the word "the" in there, it brought back every scent with "the" in it.

so when it said it was searching for "queen OR of OR spades" it was literally looking for everything with queen, of, or spades in the name or description. if you switch it to and, it becomes two results (king & queen of spades).

the advanced search page, which will be coming out whenever i finish the pluralization thing, will have an option to allow you to search titles, descriptions, or both, and to restrict it to one category (eg, love potions). search exact phrase will also be added to the options.. while those won't eliminate the above, it'll help.

unrelated, a friend of mine is working on something for "did you mean...?" because he has nothing better to do.

  12. ooooooooooooooooo it's all for me grog

    me jolly jolly grog

it's all for me grog and tobacco

    errr wait

very rummy and buttery, but i disagree with whomever said it was like the old hellfire. the old hellfire was more stale popcorn. this is more buttershots and rum.

    mmmm butterscotch

  13. i'd try to help and reassure, but my orders last year came in oct, dec, and march... completely avoided the worst of winter because i was too po'

eta: but more on the point, here's a list of oils and freezing points.

    SUBSTANCE     FREEZING POINT (deg C)
    corn oil           -20
    sunflower oil      -17
    olive oil           -6
    sesame oil          -6
    peanut oil           3
    palm oil            24.1
    coconut oil         25.1

    BUT

keep in mind that there's a nominal amount of insulation with the cardboard and bubble wrap... so inside-the-box-and-bubblewrap temperature isn't going to be the same out outside-the-box.

  14. i just got her in a swap today and oh boy, is this one that i'm sad i missed. i LOVE mabon. the blackberry wine doesn't go super grapey like most wine scents do. it's an earthy scent (the oak, ivy, hops, and hazel), a tiny bit of cinnamon weaves in and out. the myrrh and cider are great notes too.
