  1. The Fox-woman Kuzunoha Leaving Her Child, Yoshitoshi Tsukioka.White tea, cherry blossom, wisteria, star jasmine, and teak. this seems to be the salon scent without it's own review thread of yet, please correct me if i somehow do this incorrectly... Kuzunoha was, for me, a very fresh sort of floral in the bottle. unfortunately, on my skin, the teak came out with as much strength as the bouquet, which didn't do much for me. after a while, it smelled of wood chips. now i can see this one being lovely for some people, but it didn't work for me. i would like to perhaps try it in a scent locket, and see if it's just my skin which develops that wood chip smell.

    Gelt

I love sweet/foody scents as they tend to just play nicely with my skin. This was no exception. I wasn't going to get it because I have Candy Butcher, but this is very different. CB is creamy chocolate, and Gelt goes caramel on my skin somehow. It's really deep and delicious and I daubed it on at Will Call last night and I can still smell it on my skin right now at 1 pm the next day. Antique Lace and Eat Me do this too. They practically require an acid peel to remove from my skin.

    Ho Ho Ho

I am so glad you mentioned potpourri and pomanders because that's what I get from it, too. Are they not releasing the description for this? It reminds me of my mother's house, which is this gorgeous old 1920's home with tons of wood details and built in cabinets and moldings and such, all set out for the holidays. I completely concur with your breakdown of notes. The dry down on me was rapid as well, and it goes way more subtle than when wet. It stays sweet on me though, and I think the fruit really holds up, my skin tends to do this. The spiciness is totally tempered and I would totally wear this as a winter scent on a cozy grey day!

A scent like a starry night

For me, it would have to be Snow Moon.

    The Dormouse

i adore the doormouse. generally i prefer sweet and foody scents, so others really have to impress me, and the doormouse does not fail. it is an extremely clean, pleasant scent. the floral is very light and no one note seems to overpower any others. each note compliments the other and masks with their strengths any unpleasant aspects one might bring. my skin gets along very well with the doormouse.

    Bat-Woman

bat-woman is quite floral. i generally do not care for florals unless they are on the lighter side and toned down with something creamy. bat-woman is no exception, and i do not care for it. the combination of so many heavy florals such as honeysuckle was just too cloying, and it smelled of soap on my skin.

    The Death Of Sardanapal

in the bottle, this is a lovely spiced tea. it reminds Mr DD of tea he was offered at people's homes in iraq. at first daub...the cassia is VERY overpowering. however, after about 10 minutes it mellows into that first-whiff spiced tea scent, which makes me very happy indeed. it isn't exactly a girly-girl scent, but it is languid and sexy and i like it!

And There Was A Great Cry In Egypt

i don't care for this one much in the bottle. it is very cologne-ish, but not in a particularly extraordinary way. after about 10 minutes on my skin, it grows into a heavy, resin, amber delight. definitely not a girly or feminine scent. very sophisticated for a night on which velvet would be more appropriately worn than chiffon, and i'm happy to keep it in my repertoire for such occasions!

    The Penitent Magdalen

i LOVE this one! it's my favorite salon fragrance. it starts very floral, perfumey. i did not expect to like it. but on my skin it developped it's creaminess in a way that made the florals very luscious and sweet without being so cloying. sandalwood, honey, and almond flower get along quite well on my skin. and i LOVE lily of the valley, but alone it can be rather soapy and the sweeter notes compliment it perfectly.

    Eat Me

so i got an imp of this in the mail from a swap, and threw the package in my car on my way to will call from san diego in rush hour traffic. while inching north, i recklessly opened my package and tested Eat Me on my arm. not a wise choice when you're hungry and not a bakery in site. Eat Me is cake with a twist on me. it's much more subtle than cake, actually. it reminds me of japanese pastries, gyuhi or even mochi...sweet rice flour with some bean paste in the middle. sweet but very muted at the same time. seeing as i LOVE japanese sweets, Eat Me is now one of my favs. i think i'm going to have to do a top 5, as i can't choose just one favorite.

    Eden

my favorite! at first sniff, eden is very bitter on me. as soon as it's dry, however, it becomes a very complex, sweet, sexy, grown-up scent, with each note blending so that no one is overpowering any other. it's very strong and lasts forever on me, too!

    Kyoto

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

computers and i are not friends. after battling to make some sort of sense out of these programs, i decided that, in the spirit of the whispers of the past which float into our lives on our favorite BPAL scents, i shall keep track with an old fashioned pen and paper. i'm getting a notebook, tab dividers, and i am going to write everything down by hand. it's very romantic. and i have such pretty paper. i'll have a section of things i've tried, and my thoughts on them. i think this section will be alphabatized by the scent's name, and not by category, as i'm not too familiar with which scents belong to which categories yet. but the category will be among the information on that scent's page, including the description from the site, and my own personal reviews and notes. ooh, maybe i could print up little labels with pretty BPAL icons for each page! then i'll do a section for my wishlist, one for swaps, and one to keep track of my purchases. yay for writer's cramp. much less painful than carpel tunnel!
