BPTP (Hair Gloss, Atmo, Bath Oil) to BPAL Similarities/Reccs
Katherynne replied to Juushika's topic in Recommendations
Well, I don't know about oils that compare, but I use my L'inverno spray as perfume sometimes by misting my clothes with it before I put them on. -
I absolutely love this. In the bottle it's definitely all rotting fruit, that sweet sharpness comes through -- it almost smells JUST like wine, which is interesting. On my skin, though, the black pepper bursts forth! It is all peppered plum and grave dust. I am in love, it's a shame I don't have two bottles! I'm surprised it doesn't smell more like rose due to my usual amping of rose, but I think the black pepper just cut right through that. I don't have a problem with this. The fruit swells underneath it all, keeping it sweet and rotting, another thing I love. It does remind me of Mme Moriarty, maybe if she were older and spicier.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. It's taken me a while to figure out what this smells like? Definitely brighter than I thought it would be. It's dirty like violets on me, and sweet with rot the way The Forbidden Foyer is. I agree that it's also slightly fizzy; it sort of tickles my nose and I just keep huffing it, trying to figure out if it I like it or not. I'm not getting the foody chestnut part at all, but I am starting to get dryer sheets. And the throw ... I can smell it on my arm with my arm at my side.

First let me say that I am SO excited to finally try Glasgow. I have been eyeing this scent for a long time, but I always put it off in favour of other scents. When I got my Hallowe'en order and saw that the lab frimped me Glasgow, I squealed with delight. in the imp: sweet berry! wet: Sweet blackberry magnified, with a touch of a rose-like scent hovering underneath drydown: the herbally rose smell gets stronger, and the blackberry calms down into less SWEET FRUIT and a more rich, mild berry scent. I really love this. The heather is definitely a nice floral that I like, I'm discovering. overall: this scent does not remind me of my time in Scotland, sadly, but I do really like it. It's a very clean and fresh floral-berry blend. keep or swap: Keep the imp, but it's not bottle-worthy.

Oh wow -- this is so much sweeter and brighter than I thought it would be! I'm definitely NOT complaining, it's just such a surprise! I expected, for the record, a much more dark and chilling scent. When I opened the bottle, the first thing that came to mind was "Oooh, complex. And sweet?" The label is lovely, I really like the artwork and the lavender colour of the picture. It seems to suit the scent so perfectly. In the Bottle: Sweet! This smells first and foremost complex, with underlayers and things lurking, but the sweet topnote is definitely there -- just like a churchyard that should be beautiful, but hides something sinister. Wet: When I put this on, the first thing that hit me was the rose. I should have known this would happen, because I amp rose like nobody's business, which is why it's one of my Dreaded Deal-Breakers. I don't think I noticed that this blend had rose in it, really, but I am definitely noticing it now! There's a hint of fruity berry underneath. Drydown: Ohh, the bark, moss and bullrush are coming out to play. This is more what I was thinking when I ordered this; it's much more herbal and plant-filled. The frankincense seems to be hiding at the bottom under everything. I'm getting a whiff of it, but only with my nose right next to my wrist. Throw: I can smell it wafting up from my wrists as I type, but I'm wearing it tonight around people, so I'll come back and edit when I get some reactions about the throw -- that's always the best way for me to tell. How quickly can others smell it? ETA: seems like the throw diminishes as it dries. Scent was quite faded about four hours later, but it's the herbal notes that hang on and I'm down with that. I think without re-application, this scent would be totally gone in about, oh, six-eight hours or so, on my skin. Seems like it's a more "personal space" scent too, it doesn't THROW like some scents do. intimacy. Overall: I am really loving this. That blackberry note is heaven! I've not worn anything with blackberry before, and I am very pleasantly surprised. The sweetness of the rose and berry on my skin makes me say that this scent feels feminine, but I have the feeling that if I slapped some on the boy, it would smell completely different. Stay tuned. I'll do that later. Keep or Swap?: DEFINITELY a keeper! I'm so glad I didn't wait to get a decant of this and just ordered the bottle right away. It is so worth it.

I'm really wanting to steampunk out for Hallowe'en and for this purpose, I really need to get at least an imp of Antikythera Mechanism, I think. Either than or I'm going to be Alice from Alice in Wonderland, in which case -- obviously!
-
Yes, Sephiroth were 10mls. And I would sell my soul to buy another 10ml of Hod in a heartbeat.

I feel very feminine and womanly wearing this. My only complaint is that um, I hate jasmine but everything else in this is so lovely and powdery soft, I think I like it more than I imagined I would! It is definitely a funereal smelling oil, which I am totally digging -- I'll have to decide if the jasmine is a dealbreaker, though. For right now, I'm keeping her.

This.... is too much mint. I didn't know I didn't like smelling like minty perfume, but now I do. Swaps.

In the bottle this smells very similar to Eshe. It's very herbal and planty, with hardly a hint of fruit at all. When I put it on wet, it smells mostly of planty lavender, with just a hint of patchouli. But on the drydown.... POMEGRANATE, wow! This blend dries down to a lush, juicy fruit scent on me, all pomegranate with an undercut of neroli and just a touch of patchouli to keep it from being too sweet. Like the person above me, I can't believe I almost didn't get this! I love it. By far one of the most successful unsniffed LEs I've bought!

First impression: Meh. I put this on when I got my order, hoping it would be almost a dirt SN, and it wasn't -- so I just put it away and kind of forgot about it. It's been a month now and I decided to put it on today, to give it a fair trial. Second impression: WOW! This one on my skin comes out with a sweet coconut smell, the dirt just hinting underneath. It goes really well with a certain lotion I have, and I'm fond of the sweetness of coconut, so I'm happy with it! the wearlength is REALLY short though, extra short. I agree with the reviewer who said it smelt of Tonka, and I'm okay with that, although usually vanilla-y things are not my style.

I have just gotten a bottle of this, so it's safe to say it aged a bit, eh? OH MY GOD, it is AWESOME. In the bottle it's sharp and potently dusty, with a hint of something slightly sweet underneath. On the skin it's the most gorgeously woody, smoky, dusty, tinged-with-sweet thing ever. I am in love with it. I tried it on my sister, so once I try it on myself I can talk about throw and wearlength, but wow. What a worthy swap.

What BPAL would this fictional character wear?
Katherynne replied to Flowermouth's topic in Recommendations
Someone else said De Sade and I think I agree! Definitely that or something Steamworks, because he's such a high tech vigilante. -
Patchouli, Kashmiri tea, cardamom, black pepper, carnation, and clove. IT ITCHES. >_< on me this also smells like nothing but plain tea. I am sad. it must now go. I really have no idea what went wrong here, either. This is so beyond disappointing

Oh my GOD. This is earthy and sexy and spicy with ginger. I was expecting to like this based on the grave loam note, but wow. I'm surprised by how utterly amazed I am by it!! I agree that it is very feminine and head-turning. I was worried what "soft perfume" meant, but wow. It's spice and exotic and I definitely feel sexy wearing it! I can't stop huffing >_> I think I may have to get a 5ml of this one.

Oh, how lucky I am. I found a 10ml of Hod on ebay and paid dearly for it, and how HAPPY I am that I did. On me, this is all peppery, smooth carnation. I really can't smell much else out of it. I get a little cream just under the pepper, but the carnation is the Big Hitter here. And since that's the reason I wanted this one? I'm stoked. I will cherish this bottle.

I'm getting this awful smell from this, and I'm blaming the violet. I was thinking maybe I liked violet? NO. I DO NOT. I love vetiver so I can't blame the vetiver -- it's all the weird smell of violet which to my nose is just... offensive. I know so many reviews are saying they can't smell the violet but oh god, to me it's overpowering and it just gets worse on the drydown. It smells OKAY on the boy, better than it does on me, but I'll be frimping this to someone else on my next swap.

This one smells fabulously green and floral in the bottle. I wish it had stayed that way, but once I put it on it turned into a sickly cloying "old lady perfume" smell. I was really hoping for a earthy, mossy smell from this but I guess that my skin just took some of the flowers and ran with them... I really, REALLY hated it. I scrubbed it off.

I was just coming here to ask this! I say bee-pal, but then I say tee-ay-el. It's weird, and I don't know why, but I just can't say "tal"!

The scents that get you the most compliments?
Katherynne replied to Scanmike's topic in Recommendations
^ what?! how does that work?? I usually get the most compliments on Mme. Moriarty and on my Blood/Black Ice layering job. -
I totally agree with Death Cap -- and Schrodinger's Cat! They are both very unique, as is Penny Dreadful (at least, I think so). Maybe also try Depraved or Debauchery? I too like the heavier & darker smells (I always run away from vanilla), and Depraved is a fabulous apricot slathered heavy patchouli. It's great! One that people always talk about when I wear it is Blood layered with Black Ice. Black Ice is an LE, though... it's all vetiver. If you like vetiver I think you should try Saturnalia! It's violet and vetiver and I thought it was such an INTERESTING smell.

^ thank you so much for posting that -- it's really helpful! Right now I'm all because I've managed to get my hands on a virgin bottle of Hod! I am so beyond happy about this I can't even say, and I wanted to say thanks to you guys who all talked about it in here. I feel fulfilled, hahaha. I am now armed with this AND with Lush's Potion Lotion.

Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)
Katherynne replied to Vanilla's topic in Recommendations
No, Old Madrid was the older name for what is now Madrid... a lot of the Wanderlust scents were re-named IIRC -
Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)
Katherynne replied to zillah37's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
yeah hi. I may need to get a backup bottle of this before all is said and done. It's a very creamy, plummy patchouli for me. It's lush! I love it. Wear time is okay, not great but not ridiculously short. I suspect applied in hair and such it would have much more throw and wear longer, so I'm stoked on that. -
I'm definitely getting the sugar. In the bottle Midnight on the Midway is SWEET and barely floral. On wet, the smell doesn't morph from the bottle at all -- it's all sweet to me, just a bunch of heavy sugar notes with the barest afterthought of flowers. As it dries, though, I'm getting a sort of incense-y almost nag champa like smell. It's not as herbal as that, though -- the sugar is definitely all still there. My boyfriend likes this one, so I'll be keeping the decant at least.
