    Veil

Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): A very nice bouquet – like running through a field of flowers. I can identify separate scents: lilac, lavender, gardenia, orris (iris), violet, ylang ylang … very sweet and airy – not at all heavy. I get a slight mingling, but it is more of a separate whiff of each specific flower at the same time. This is such a soothing, calming, peaceful, sleep-inducing scent. I should try wearing it to bed. Initial Dry (8:30-10am): The sandalwood begins to peek out behind the florals, giving the bouquet a dusky thickness. Still rather pleasant and calming. The individual scents are indistinguishable from one another now that it’s dry. Throughout the Day (10am-1pm): This certainly toned down quite a bit. I am now catching whiffs of the florals, which combined with the underlying sandalwood; lay down a blanket of sweet incense. My wrists hold the opposite (sandalwood with an underlying floral). Still very light and calming, and quite lovely. By 1pm, this had all but dissipated. I can still smell it very faintly on my wrists. A perfect blend for promoting sleep, and if I choose to wear it out, then I’ll just have to bring along the imp for re-application.

    Three Witches

Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): Mmmmm … clove cigarettes, clove gum. It smells so yummy I can almost taste it. I only hope the cinnamon comes out later, as I am still awaiting that perfect cinnamon scent. Initial Dry (8:30-10:30am): Well, I’m not enveloped in clove as intense as I was when I first applied the oil, but it is still there. Not really detecting anything else. If I sniff my wrist, I smell the pepper and a bit of the cinnamon. Oooohhh … very nice. Throughout the Day (10:30am-4pm): This tones down so much that now I only catch faint whiffs of spice. It is still predominantly clove, but the cinnamon and white pepper are there. It is slowly dissipating. I shall have to remember to carry the imp with me next time for re-application – and most certainly will reapply before I go out tonight. I saved this scent for last because I knew I would love it so much. Definitely ordering a big bottle of this.

    Titania

Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): An overwhelmingly sweet, fruity-floral bouquet. It is difficult to discern each individual scent, but the sweat pea is certainly at the top. Initial Dry (8:30-10:30am): As was expected, this toned down quite a bit. The sweet pea is still the most prominent scent, and I still can’t identify the others beneath it, they blend so well. This is a wonderful arrangement, a definite spring/summer scent – light and airy, just out of reach of the shadow of darkness. This is the scent of carefree innocence. I imagine a child playing in the park, swinging on the swings, blissfully unaware of the evil and banality of the world – truly a scent of glamour. Throughout the Day (10:30am-5pm & Beyond): I am enveloped by the scent of warm, sweet innocence. I close my eyes and can picture myself running barefoot through a field of flowers, preparing a picnic lunch on the edge of the forest, seeing the faeries dancing out of the corner of my eye. Aside from the sweat pea (which is still the most prominent), every other note is melded so exquisitely that I am almost lost in the scent. I am feeling rather restless today, locked up in my cubicle. I want to be outside in the fresh air, away from banality – I blame that on this scent. It is undeniably in the class of the out-of-doors, hair-tousled-by-the-wind, barefoot-in-the-park variety. This is indeed a long-lasting scent, as it is still present as I leave for home.

    The Hesperides

Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): This is the scent of an apple orchard in late autumn ... the fruit so over-ripe that it falls from the tree of its own accord. The scent is definitely wet, as if the orchard is still covered in morning dew, just as it begins to dissipate in the midday sun. The scent of the apples is definitely enough to overpower anything else – but it is almost like a candy apple scent – deliriously sweet. Initial Dry (8:30-10:30am): I still smell the apples, but there is something thicker underneath – chocolate, vanilla, caramel – I cannot quite put my finger on it. There is definitely something dessert-related here. This scent definitely has a very distinct change from wet to dry. Hmmm … Apples dipped in chocolate? Caramel apples? A gourmet caramel apple - an apple not only covered in caramel, but dipped in chocolate, drizzled with vanilla, covered with nuts – sugar shock on a stick. Throughout the Day (10:30am on): This is another one of those short-lived scents. I don’t even detect it unless I sniff my wrist, which still holds the scent of gourmet caramel apples – with an underlying woodsy scent. Almost like eating a caramel apple in the middle of the orchard. I really didn’t think I would like this scent, as I am not a fan of the smell of apples. I was wrong. This is a reminder of cool autumn days – and it’s making me hungry.

    Eidolon

Out of the Bottle: An amalgamation of very potent, earthy scents. When asked what he thought, my husband shrugged and said, “Eh … you smell like my grandmother.” Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): Thank the Gods this toned down quite a bit. I can still smell strong, earthy scents, but they aren’t half as potent as fresh out of the bottle. The verbena is the most prominent here (though I don’t detect any of the lemon others have previously mentioned), with the others mingling just behind. Initial Dry (8:30-10am): Definitely herbal and earthy. I’m still noticing the verbena as the most prominent scent, followed quickly by the sage. It is almost like standing in the herbal room at a new-age store – the smell of a mixture of freshly dried and crushed herbs, or a Native American smudging. Funny, I can’t seem to smell it on my skin. It is a scent that permeates the air around me. I can smell it a little on the collar of my shirt, but nothing on my wrists … interesting. Throughout the Day (10am on): Wow, this really dissipated quickly. I still catch a faint whiff of herbs here or there, but nothing like the initial potency of the liquid form. If I choose to keep this one, I’ll have to remember to reapply frequently. This is a scent for nature meditation. It is a very outdoorsy, attune-with-nature type of scent. Mayhaps something to wear to an outdoor renaissance festival, earth festival or other such outdoor function.

    Glitter

Out of the Bottle: This smells like candy, my husband says it smells just like sweet tarts. Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): This does go on very sweet, almost like liquid candy, but as it dries, it tones down. I definitely smell the pear, which is what really sweetens this scent, but under the pear is an almost bitter tang – probably the white wine. Initial Dry (8:30-10am): This tones down quite a bit. The scent is almost nonexistent unless I smell my wrists. My wrists are almost powdery … almost. The heliotrope blends with the pear to keep the scent sweet, while the white wine and lotus keep it from being too sugary. Throughout the Day (10am on): This continued to dry into that sickly-sweet, headache-inducing powder (like Fae and Unseelie). Even though I cannot really smell it unless I smell my wrists – but when I do, whoa momma! Since this scent immediately went on the list of ‘scents to try on the clothing, not the skin’, I figured I would see if I happened to get any on my shirt. In smelling along the neckline of my shirt, I notice a very distinctive difference, and no powder. So it is promising – this will definitely be reevaluated later.

    Twilight

Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): The lavender is very prominent here. This is a very calming scent with an underlying sweetness. Initial Dry (8:30-11:30am): Not much changes here. The lavender is still the most prominent scent, but the honeysuckle sweetens it as the jasmine warms it. This is an extremely calming, soothing scent. Very nice. Throughout the Day (11:30am-4:30pm): The potency of the scent faded rather quickly. But, like Chimera, I still catch a whiff of warm sweetness every once in a while. Overall: Enigmatic is right – this is definitely a keeper.

    Nyx

Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): The rose is quite prominent, with an underlying thickness – more than likely the myrrh. Can’t really detect the jasmine over the rose. Initial Dry (8:30-10am): The rose is still quite prominent, though not as strong as before. Throughout the Day (10am-3pm): I get gentle whiffs of rose, quite pleasant. The only time I even smell the jasmine or myrrh is if I sniff my wrist directly – when I do, I get a nice spicy floral scent. Talk about an experience, I get two very distinct scents depending on whether I smell my skin or just breathe the air around me (or smell my shirt collar). This is a very pleasant surprise. Overall: The scent lasted around 7 hours, and it didn’t really give me a headache – this is a very good thing. I really enjoyed the mixture of scents. This is a keeper - at least for the imp.

    Unseelie

Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): This is a very enchanting scent, light an airy – with an underlying darkness, as if it is just around the corner, or sneaking up on you. I imagine myself walking through a secret garden during dusk or twilight – the ‘tween times. This is the scent of that otherworld … the darker side of Fairyland. I imagine this to be the scent of the trickster Fey – the beautiful little people who could be kind, so long as you remain on their good side. Initial Dry (8:30-10:30am): Aside from getting lighter and a bit powdery, this scent didn’t really change much. Where I initially smelled more of the dew-covered greenery, now the florals are more prominent – soft, powdery, florals. Throughout the Morning (10:30-11:30am): This scent really dissipated quite quickly. I can smell it on my wrists, but otherwise it is nearly non-existent. I shall certainly have to reapply before I go out tonight. Edit: Into the Evening: I was admittably dissapointed to find that the powdery scent I tried so hard to ignore this morning was all that this turned into after drying - when re-applied this evening. As with Fey, I shall have to try this on my clothing instead of on my skin. ~~~ Placed on clothing (collar and cuffs). All I can smell is powder - a deep, dark, flowery powder - but a powder nonetheless. =< This must contain one of those ingredients that just doesn’t agree with me.

    Chimera

Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): A delectable, warm, spicy scent. Reminiscent of baking cookies … snicker doodles? Initial Dry (8:30-11am): A very strong, warm, sweet, thick scent … like melting brown sugar. I can’t isolate any one scent above the others, but I am unfamiliar with myrrh, copal or honeysuckle. This could be the myrrh and/or copal, as it is very rich, thick and resin-like. Midday: This scent (like Fey) gave me a headache, which slowly dissipated as the potency of it calmed a bit. Throughout the Day (11am on): This has finally started to calm down. Now I get gentle whiffs of a warm, sweetness. I was really hoping the cinnamon would be more prominent – as I was looking for a spicy cinnamon scent. This has calmed quite a bit. Every once in a while I catch a whiff of a warm sweetness, reminiscent of sugar cookies. This was truly a lasting scent, as I caught little whiffs right up until my morning shower.

    Ulalume

Swiped across wrists and along collarbone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): I am sent back to the days of my youth when my mother signed her children up for the early morning (8am) session of swim class. We arrive at the lake before anyone else can mingle the scent of nature with barbecue and sun block. This is the scent of the early morning on the lakeshore – the scent of the trees and the waves and the morning dew. Initial Dry (8:30-10am): The lilies are really starting to shine through now. It is a very warm, sweet, spring, field-of-flowers scent. Like standing by a pond in the spring sunshine. Throughout the Day (10am-2pm): A very faint, light, watery flower scent. It lingers in a way that I don’t smell it all the time, but catch faint whiffs every so often. Almost like a slight breeze over a pond in the middle of a field of spring flowers. … slowly fading … A very clean, calming, cathartic scent. This one is definitely a keeper.

    Fae

Swiped across wrists and along collar bone. Initial Wet (8-8:30am): Sweet, almost flowery scent (peach and heliotrope?) Initial Dry (8:30-11:30am): Very potent, almost sickly-sweet, powdery scent (heliotrope and musk?) Throughout the Day (11:30-4pm): Faint wisps of earthy tones (bergamot and oakmoss?), underlined by a much-milder sweet musk … slowly fading Overall: Maybe I can avoid the heavy powdery scent if I place it on my clothing instead of directly on my skin. I really want to like this scent - so I must give it another try. ~~~*~~~ EDIT (August 2, 2004) ~~~*~~~ Placed on clothing (collar and cuffs). A sweet, musky peach that slowly turned into a thick musky, earthy, scent. I feel the headache beginning at the back of my head – mayhaps it is the musk that is inducing it. *shrug* Oh well, two imps to gift upon others.
