Cleopatra Testing Poisons on Those Condemned to Death
for_the_nonce replied to shelldoo's topic in The Salon
The most prominent notes, on me, are peach and almond. However, this is not a very sweet scent. In fact, it's what I imagine bread would smell like if you made it with peaches instead of, say, bananas. I don't get any bitterness or resins. This is a very pleasant, comforting, warm, slightly foody scent on me. I like it alot. -
This smells very, well, perfumey. However, it's a nice perfume and does fit the painting rather well. It's a slightly juicy, floral perfume, if that makes any sense. I don't pick up any lemon balm, sandalwood, or any of the other woody notes. Hm... I don't see myself reaching for this often, but it is pretty.

Wow... the Thunder Moon label is gorgeous! Now I almost wish I had bought a bottle.

The lovely GypsyRoseRed sent me a decant of this as a thank you. I can't really describe it, though. It's predominantly musky/foody- but not in a traditional way. It's almost a bakery-like smell- there's no cinnamon, or sugar, or anything like that. It seems to have a subtle floral note lurking in the background that sweetens the blend up a bit. This is definitely unlike any other bpal I've smelled. The only thing that even comes close is Stardust- the two share that hairspray note, but in Intergalactic, the note is much more... well, pleasant. However, that's where the similarities between the two end. Also, Intergalactic is a very light, skin scent. I like it, but I bet it will fade pretty quickly.

Looking for any Harry Potter scent recommendations

I second Severin, actually. Snape is one of my favorite characters, and when I got Severin, it totally reminded me of him. -
Thanks for the pic!

Me too- I bet the Selkie bottle is beautiful.

Y'know, Strangler Fig *might* be close. It was very green and sweet on me. Not fruity, per se, but you might try it. Or, you could layer it with something like Pele or Vasakasajja to give it a more tropical vibe. Other scents that strike me as sounding dark green (I haven't tried these, so this is just from the notes): Bayou, Manila, and The Isle of Demons (I've tried this one, it might be close). I hope you find something- I hate having rare things that I can't bear to use up.

This is a pretty bizarre request, but is there anything in the bpal catalogue that smells like chocolate milk? I'm thinking Bliss may be my best bet, but I'm really looking for something milkier than pure chocolate. What say you, experienced bpalers? -
When I tried this imp, I thought I might be going crazy. But then I skimmed through the reviews and found this: Yep, that's right, barbeque sauce. I can smell the nutmeg and sassafras underneath it, but it's still overwhelmingly barbeque-y.

Thirding Eclipse- pure almond oil extract. Seraglio and Uruk are also very almondy. On me, Seraglio was sweet almond + orange peel and spices and Uruk was cinnamon almond. Has anyone gotten *bitter* almond from any of the aforementioned oils? I love the bitter almond in Queen of Sheba, but every other bpal I've tried with almond turns way sweet. Any suggestions?

You might try Habu or 51.

Adding my vote for Sudha Segara. Van Van would also be good. Perhaps Nuclear Winter too... it's minty and refreshing, but also very soft.

First, I don't know what year this is from. Creamy, watery coconut with the tiniest bit of mint. It's such a soft, feminine scent, but it has wonderful throw. For the record, I don't get much vanilla with this (which is good, because I abhor vanilla), nor much in the way of florals. It's mostly milky, sweet, subtle coconut.

Crisp red apple with a green, herbal undertone. There is no tartness to this on me- in fact, it is quite sweet, but not overly so. It has great throw and seems to have good staying power. I really, really love this. Most apple scents are cidery and fairly similar to one another, but this is completely unique and sophisticated.

Hey... why don't I get that option? I hate pink, but my friend is quite decided that her bridesmaid dresses for this summer are going to be fuschia. On a more pertinent note: I think Vasakasajja would make a great bridal scent. Or Strawberry Moon (especially for a spring wedding), which I have recently fallen in love with. However, since this is my only love interest at the moment, I won't be worrying about my own wedding perfume for some time.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Is there anything- GC or otherwise- similar to Ides of March? I absolutely love this scent but it's got no staying power on me. *sob* ETA: Cairo smells exactly like Litha to me, which was totally unexpected. -
Just bumping to ask: which is a better spring scent to you, 51 or Garden Path with Chickens? I haven't tried Garden Path, so I'm having trouble deciding which to order.
-
Danube! This seems to be the only spring scent I own, but I also live in Texas where there isn't really a spring at all.

Yep, rich brown leather. However, there's something... clean and fresh here too. I don't know how to describe it, but I love it. This isn't a scent I'll wear often- hell, maybe even ever- but I can't bear to part with it either.
