The moment I read this I immediately thought Tarot: The Star. On me it is a very tart lime and coconut. A little too tart for my tastes, but it really lends itself to your desired flavour/scents. At the other end of the spectrum, Pele is a gorgeously soft and mild tropical scent which is very pretty. I really think you should try The Star though, given your taste in cocktails! ETA: Joseybird beat me to it!

Sexy, Smutty, Seductive, Provocative... It's All in Here

My boyf likes Dana O'Shee on me. He actually said 'Wow, that's nice!' yesterday, which is shocking as he is usually indifferent to perfume. -
Golden Priapus? It has a nice vanilla note. what about Dorian? It is quite vanilla-sweet but isn't spicy. Although it doesn't contain Vanilla, Villain is a lovely men's blend which sweetens up as it dries down. Tombstone is a good vanilla, but to my nose it develops a latex-glove aroma, I know other people love it though so it could just be me! Oooh, and of course if he is a western fan Dead Man's hand might be right up his alley

Gourmand - Foody Scents - General Recommendations

I'm very intrigued by Voodoo, but I keep forgetting about it. I think I'll have to add it to my wishlist -
Sweet blends might smell a little odd with chlorine, so I think Jolly Roger would work quite well. It is quite salty, so may work with the chlorine rather than simply masking it. It's a great, unusual scent. I've found that quite a few BPAL scents have stayed on my skin even after bathing and washing, so in that sense BPAL generally is a good choice for watersports

Have revived this thread to ask a quick question... Has anyone else received a bottle of Golden Priapus lately? Between us Purely_cosmetic and I have tried 4 imps of Golden Priapus, and liked it enough to buy 5ml's. However, when our bottes arrived this morning the blend was significantly different. The consistency is almost sticky, and it is much heavier on the juniper and lighter on the Vanilla. I know Harri was sad about it as it is her signature scent, and whilst it isn't my signature scent I was a little saddened by the difference too. Has anyone else noticed a difference in the formulation? Also there's a chance that the imp I had was older... anyone know how Golden Priapus matures? I'm wondering if the vanilla might become more pronounced with time. Any input would be much appreciated

I agree wholeheartedly with what you said about Amsterdam. Yup, I sniffed Amsterdam today courtesy of purely_cosmetic and it really is incredibly evocative of Spring. I also think that White Rabbit is very Spring-like, although I don't actually enjoy it myself.

Oil recommendations for studying, learning, exams

I know what you mean about the 'net being distracting. It was my downfall last term. I found the only way to get round it was to take my internet card out and put it somewhere obscure. That way I was less tempted to click on to the forum! -
Oil recommendations for studying, learning, exams

I often find quite foody scents work well for essay-writing. Usually when I'm working I'm also hugely stressed out, so something warrm and comforting is required. Dorian and Dana O'Shee would fall into this category. Also Dragonfly Blue's Vanilla Almond is a divine Anti- 'Argh my head is about to explode' scent. Although Pele isn't warm exacty, it's a good studying scent for me. It's not pungent enough to be distracting, but it gives off a lovely fresh whiff every now and then. -
Black pearl is very Coconutty, but Hell's Belle also deserves a mention. For some reason it was strangely similar to Black pearl (to my nose)

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?
Pookstrell replied to Absinthe's topic in Recommendations
To me, Villain is a much nicer version of King of Diamonds. KOD resembled something vaguely shampoo-like, although it did have a nice musky base. Villain is similar, but much warmer and I prefer it -
Dana O'Shee is a very 'close to the skin' scent for me. Lovely warm, milky almonds Although you might find it slightly foody, depending on how you view almonds really I wouldn't describe Pele as a second skin scent, but it's mild soft and pretty and stays close to the skin

Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love
Pookstrell replied to any_old_actress's topic in Recommendations
Oh, Jack is indeed very autumnal. It's a pity it dries down to peach on me. I still LOVE the opening stages though. I'm envious of purely_cosmetic, it smells divine on her! -
Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)
Pookstrell replied to Vanilla's topic in Recommendations
Similarities I've noted: Dana O'Shee+Snowcake, Chai showergel+Aries, Bon Vivant+Angel Delight soap, Three Witches+Skinny Dip. Also, Flying fox reminds me of BPAL's jasmine note in general (I'm not a jasmine fan though) I'm currently looking for a scent similar to American Cream as it is the best smelling conditioner I have ever experienced, but it isn't too great on my hair. -
Red makes me think of Dragon's Blood Also cinnamon springs to mind.... exciting!

Purely_cosmetic kindly let me try some of her Jack last night Wow. Purely_cosmetic was right, this smells just like biscuits with dried fruit in. Amazing On my skin: Biscuits!!! Very, very foody. Definitely smells like warm pumpkin pie, complete with sugary pastry. This is pretty damn impressive. As it begins to dry the biscuit-phase disappears and it smells very buttery. I really like this stage too. But hang on, what's this? Nooo, it's the feared peach note which originally prevented me from ordering some of this for myself. As it continues to warm on my skin the peach becomes more and more pronounced until it totally dominates the blend. I don't like this stage, and it bears absolutely no resemblance to the lovely biscuit-phase I encountered earlier. In conclusion, I am very jealous! This blend smelled totally different on purely_cosmetic. Wonderful baked goods on her, whilst it morphed into peach-ass on me. I would recommend it to others though, as I have experienced how wonderful it can be on the right person. I think I may have to resort to stealing a Jack-sized chunk of Harri's skin when I want to wear it. Or something. Nevermind, I got her back with Dorian as it smelled of sweeties on me and lemon-ass on her!! Seriously though, it is totally amazing the difference that skin chemistry can make to a blend. Quite astounding.

I hadn’t been very caught up in the hype over Dorian. I ordered an imp for a friend in my last lab order and thought it sounded yummy, but hadn’t really thought of getting some for myself. To me ‘fougere’ often means lavender, and since I already own 5ml’s of Villain I thought it would be a little redundant. However, a few days ago I suddenly decided I wanted to try it, along with Old Morocco. So, I placed an utterly impulsive order with Apothecary’s Cat for 5ml’s of each, both unsniffed. It arrived in under a day, so I had the precious in my hot little hands very quickly indeed! The first thing I noticed was that it smelled sweet, very sweet in fact. I could catch a whiff of tea in the bottle, but probably only because I was particularly searching for it. For those familiar with Goth Rosary scents, it is quite reminiscent of Season’s Greedings, which I also just found out is a tea scent too- so there is obviously a common tea note, but one which I was unable to immediately identify as tea. At first I found Dorian a little to sweet, and played about with Old Morocco for a while instead- hence the delay in my review. But, ooooh. It gets better! Wet on the skin it is sweet, vanillar-y and rich. There is a hint of lemon in here, but only the merest hint. As it warms up, it begins to smell of sweeties. After it has been on about ten minutes the tea and lemon notes become more pronounced, but only slightly. I get whiffs of both on occasion, but they are reigned in tight by the deep sweetness. This balance means that it is both heavy and light at the same time (if that makes sense!) It also means that I get different wafts of scent from one moment to another. Complex. On me, this is long-lasting and my liking for it increases exponentially upon every application. I actually get excited before I put it on! I probably wouldn’t wear this scent if I wasn’t in the mood for sweetness, as it is quite cloying. For example, I think it would be too much if I was going out for a meal. But usually I’m in the mood for gooeyness, so it’ll be worn a lot. I’m already worried about my bottle running out! This has to be my best BPAL unsniffed-gamble yet. I think that it’ll become a firm favourite with BPAL’s customers if it isn’t already! I would recommend it to anyone with a fondness for a) sweet scents vanilla and musk. Strangely, I put some on a fellow forumite and it was almost pure lemon on her skin. The difference in the way our skins reacted to this blend was quite dramatic. In short: I love this now, although I feared that initially it would be to sweet. I would have been heart-broken if this was an L.E. It is a totally brilliant addition to the catalogue. Superb. Definitely in my Top 3!!!!!!!!!!

My mum laughed when she overheard me telling you on the phone: 'I'm wearing Golden Cock to the pub!' I have a feeling that I'm really going to like Xiuchtecuhtli when it arrives- but I won't be able to tell people what I'm wearing! I can't even spell it- I just cut n'pasted that. When I try to write it, it ends up something like this: Xuihtechluchtlihecuhtliechuli.

Oils with the strongest throw or sillage - the most noticeable scents
Pookstrell replied to lunalight7's topic in Recommendations
...Dragon's Blood is mostly rose?? I thought it was a resin. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Interesting When I wear Dragon's Milk it becomes very floral on me. In fact, I'd probably recommend it to someone after a very creamy floral. It wasn't what I was expecting being a resin 'an all! -

Ok, so I guess you've been on your date by now! Just wanted to say that I've noticed men tend to like sweet smells on women. Interesting. I've had compliments when wearing Haunted to the pub, and have been complimented on the superb vanilla-goodness of Golden Priapus. I've never had any male compliments whilst wearing Loviatar though. I feel pretty sexy wearing a bold slightly, scary scent though Just out of interest, what scent did you choose for your date in the end Qspice? -
This is just amazing. I hate the smell of leather jackets and I am a vegetarian, so I really didn't expect to like Loviatar. But whilst I can smell that it is leather-inspired, thankfully Loviatar doesn't smell anything like a leather jacket to my nose. Instead it smells warm, quite masculine and it works really well on my skin. In both Tintagel and Jolly Roger there was something lurking which I really, really liked but wasn't able to pinpoint. Now I have tried Loviatar I have identified the delicious mystery note as leather. In the vial it smells wonderfully complex, and inviting. It's almost fusty smelling, like a man's clothes. (In the best possible way!) On my skin it warms up into a deliciously cosy scent. I have two imps of this, and one is much sweeter than the other. I think I prefer the sweeter imp which is alot heavier on the musk and amber, but both versions are divine. I will be buying 5ml of this as son as I can lay my hands on some money. This is a great unisex scent, as the amber and musk are perfectly balanced with the bold leather scent. This is also the only BPAL scent that I have loved which has serious staying power. At the moment this is my signature scent, it would take something spectacular to knock it off the top-spot. I fully intend to try De Sade and Severin as soon as possible!

In the vial: The first note I detect is Dragon's Blood and the second is cinnamon. Wet: Oooh, cinnamon. This made my skin feel quite hot for a few minutes- the first reaction I have ever had to a Bpal scent. It's also the first time I have tred anything with cinnamon in. Drydown: To me this is Dragon's Milk with Cinnamon in, although there is a floral in there that I can't quite identitfy. Possibly jasmine.

A very generous person let me try this... Wet: Mint and oodles of coconut! Almost smells like After-Eight mints! Very christmassy indeed! I can see why it has been compared to candycane. Smells very foody and tasty. Nothing Spooky about it! As it dries the scent stays pretty similar- I get wafts of mint and and a lovely undercurrent of deep, desicated coconut which smells like it has been baked in the oven. Whilst it is lovely, I find it is a little too bright for me to wear regularly as I tend to feel a little overwhelmed by most minty scents. It really is an amazing, whimsical scent though... really good fun!

I think Spooky is has a similar feel to The Star... but I guess that's not very helpful is it?!
