Watermelon jolly rancher's indeed. Big no for me. It smells artificial. Why, oh, why, are none of the Yules working?
-
I was hoping this would be piney, and I even was excited about smelling like Christmas candle, which was what I wanted! Unfortunately, this is all amber note of doom on me. I like amber, but some of BPAL's amber turns to stinky socks on me, and this one is OVERWHELMING that way. It's pretty much all I can smell--this funky note. And when I was decanting, I accidently got some on my hoody--disaster! All I could smell was that note (which obviously doesn't work on or off my skin). So this is a huge fail for me, sadly.
-
In the bottle I get some of the pine, which is what I was hoping for, even though the overwhelming scent is very like Snowblind, which is buttermint to me. When I put it on, all the pine goes away--not that there was much to begin with--and it's all vanilla butter mint like Snowblind, except this has a moment that goes plasticky, like some of BPAL's vanillas have for the past couple of years. that settles down, though, then it is pretty much like Snowblind on me, but not as good. So I'm not feeling I need to keep this one, though unfortunately, that has been true of all the Yules this year.

I got a sample of this as a gift from my wonderful switch witch! I just tried it tonight (I also use it as an afterbath moisturizer). On me, it smells like caramel apples, very light on the caramel, with a hint of mint. Hmmm...I think candied apples is what I mean...not caramel apples but those ones with the candy shell. It is also very slightly lemony in the bottle, but on me, I get only apples and mint. No coconut. Usually when people use coconut oil as a base, it is fractionated coconut oil which does not smell like coconut (I have a bottle I mix with things....not much, if any, of a coconut scent).

I am teh sad. I really wanted this...I like sassafras and was thinking of something like Tombstone. My wonderful and amazing switch witch, Dark Alice, got this for me as part of Switch Witch gift, and I was SO THRILLED to get it. Smelled it.....yum! Sassafras! Rootbeer! It does kind of remind me of rootbeer bottle caps too (though I'd totally forgotten about those candies til I read this thread--I LOVED them as a kid). So I put it on! About 20 minutes later, I started looking around the overpiled table for soap, because some soap was just TOO strong and the scent was bothering me. Found some soap (which smelled nothing like what I was smelling, but....) and put it away. 10 minutes later and I have a splitting headache and still smell the damn soap. Then I realized it was the Slaugh. I've never had BPAL give me a headache before, and usually I can tolerate (and even like!) these notes, but for some reason Slaugh is just evil on me. Evil soap=headache. Stupid skin chemistry! I so wanted to like this!

I just wanted to say that I had the most wondrous Witch--Dark Alice!--who really blew me away. So kind and generous! I feel like I have a new friend! I can't thank her enough! Also, now the my witchee knows who I am, gotta say, too, that my witchee was wonderful! Jencallisto was a pleasure to stalk, was always quick to post that she'd got things, and was just a joy! Another new friend! Thanks, too, to all the many ringleaders who made this possible. My love to you all!

I don't know that I have that many suggestions, but I just wanted to share the milk note love! I would say try and get Nonae Caprotina. It does appear from time to time in the swaps/sales thread. It's really spectacular! I thought, do I really need another milk note perfume, but then I tried it and fell in love (it has a nice herbal quality too). It's my favorite "sleep" scent! Most of the milk notes I can think of are LEs. Chaste Moon has a milky scent, as I recall, but again, an LE. The Ghost Cow of Yerba Buena Island is another, but even harder to get than some of these others (and I personally find it similar to Nonae, but I like Nonae more). Some other scents that have milk or creamy notes are Alice and Sudha Segara, but while I enjoy Alice, it's not quite "milky" enough when I'm craving that... Sudha Segara never smelled that milky to me....not sure I remember what note was played up (the honey?) but something overwhelmed the milk. I haven't tried Bread and Butterfly, but if you like tea, it might be interesting to try to. But I'd say go for Nonae!

Arggh! any editing of a post makes the formatting go all wonky, so yeah, my bold/not bold is now all bold. I am leaving it. Hrrrmph! AND...it also takes out spaces out...Really, really annoying. Ketchup again! 9/22/10 Do you have a deviantart print wishlist or favourites list? no Is there anything from Blooddrop that you want to try? GC? Halloween update? haven't tried them....wouldn't be against it, but I don't need another addiction. What kind of shoes do you need/want? What size shoes do you wear? Would you mind gently used shoes? I don't need any shoes except for slippers...I just bought some shoes.... Do you like paper dolls (new or vintage) or coloring in books? not really.... Do you like weird scary things as traditionally girly fashion items like heels and handbags? um...dunno....can't quite figure it. You mean like skull purses or something? That I would like....but I don't wear heels and don't carry a handbag much, so... What song is on heavy rotation for you right now? Nothing in particular. Are you coveting any of the NYCC atmospheric sprays? Not really.... If you could get any one thing hand-painted from your witch, what would it be and what would be on it? Oh, I'd love anything hand painted.... Would you (assumin' you're a yarnie) be interested in a naturally-dyed yarn that's designed to very gradually fade with washing? No need for yarn, I'm afraid. If you have played before, what are some of the most memorable things you've gotten? What really made you go WOW? If you haven't played, same thing, but not limited to SW. I have a little raven with triple moon pendant from Kristana that I wear all the time and it makes me feel safe....Schackjj made me some homemade pecan brittle...I have items that are on my altars--one was a mama brigitte artwork from a favorite artist, one was from another swap, and art swap, but is a mermaid bowl (La sirene). I've been lucky to always have just wonderful witches! 9/21/10 Do you like garlic? Do you REALLY like garlic? Would you want to try some really unusual garlic stuff, like garlic cheese or garlic fudge or garlic chocolate, etc., etc., etc.? I like garlic. I'm not sure about garlic and sweets, but any other garlic flavored things--bring 'em on! Can I talk to you about the living dead? How do you feel about Zombies? I LOVE (and am scared by) Zombies! Love zombie movies--the only gory movies I can watch. 9/20/10 If you happened to be my Witchee, is there something you'd like from the Arcana Halloween update? I'd love some of the soaps. I did buy some of the halloween scents, though. I got Straightjacket and Dia de Los Muertos, and Philtre: Embrace (well that is not a halloween scent). How many bottles of BPAL do you have? A lot, but I'm not a hoarder or slatherer, and I get rid of things that don't work on me. I used to have around 70--now I probably have about 40-50. Is there any exercise program that you're interesting in learning? Meditation, Yoga, Pilates, Belly Dancing, Zumba ect? Or if you do any of these (or anything else sport related) are there any things you need/want? Candles, music, mats, water bottles ect? I'm kind of interested in yoga, pilates, meditation and belly dancing (with the first two being the most important), but I don't know anything about them, so I don't really need anything to go with them yet. Anyone else into Emily Autumn? Guess not since I don't know who she is. What's on your walls? Please show us up to three paintings/posters/whatever. If you love a painting so much that you would steal (to watch it with your greedy eyes) one, please share. I don't have a lot of wall space as the front part of my house is windows. I have aztec snakes painted on the walls behind the woodstove (I painted them). I have some steelwork rara (carnival) figures on the wall from Haiti. I have a Diego Rivera print (La Gran Tenochitilan) above my other fireplace. (I hate hate hate how this wierd formating is breaking up words. WTF is up with that?) do you like Girl Scout cookies? What kind? Yep. Samoas. What's your take on homemade apple butter? Want some? Yep. Would love it! 9/19/10 Do you read/like fantasy? What kind of books or authors do you love? Which one would you like to read? Would you like gifts related to it? Yep. I like urban fantasy (but I like only particular kinds, like Charles de Lint) I do not like Charlene Harris. Patricia Briggs was ok, but not great. I like anything tied to myth and fairy tale (I love ursula le guin, patricia McKillip, but I've read pretty much everything they wrote). Soaps : do you like them? What brands? What scents? Anything you're dying to try? I think I answered that.... I wondered if my witch or any witch would enjoy things like nice pens to draw with or anything similar? I love pens of any and all kinds. For those who are yarnies, would you like other-than-yarn witchery? Hooks, needles? Preference of material? Do you use/would you like handmade stitch markers, etc.? no need for yarn. Does anyone do altered books? Would you be interested in old books to alter? Any type or title in particular? I'm pretty into altered books, but I probably don't need any more books to alter as I haven't done the ones I have yet! Did someone ask about incense yet? Would you like some? Something to store or burn it in? What scents? What form? Oh yes, please! I love incense. I prefer sticks. I also REALLY like loose incense (the kind you burn on charcoal); I burn it on my woodstove in winter, and that season is approaching. I have a ton of copal and frankincense as loose incense, though, more than I will likely ever use. I much prefer resins, woods and spice scents as incense. No fruit, few florals. Any oddball free things you collect or would want saved for you? interesting beer bottle caps 9/18/10 Who likes hair toys, and if so what kind? my hair isn't long enough for this anymore Does any art we may send need to be child safe, either in the actually safe sense or the non X rated sense? Nope! In the knitted/crocheted things area, would you want wrist warmers, 1/2 gloves, a neck warmer(the kind that pretty much just goes around your neck and maybe fastens instead of being long and loose like a scarf), slippers, or hats? Oh, any of these things would be lovely! I think I would like wrist warmers or half gloves most....or maybe slippers.... How do you feel about altered/recycled/upcycled items of clothing or accessories? way cool! Is there anything you want from the Violette Market update? you know, VM didn't really work for me, so no. What is your favourite habitat and climate to live in? How about to visit? (ie. forest, canyons, mountains, by the beach; temperate, tropical...) To live in: I like a dry climate but one that has seasons. Much like where I live: it doesn't rain or snow all the time, but we do get all 4 seasons. I need a lot of sun (even if it is cold when it is sunny). While the beach/ocean is my absolute favorite place to visit, I've never lived by it, and while I might like it, I think what I prefer is mountains/woods. Mostly I need SPACE, and I need to be able to see the horizon. Jungle freaks me out, as does too much greenery (though I enjoy visiting it) What do you wish you could make/craft if you had the know-how and supplies? Specifically, which particular items? Oh, I wish I could knit, but I'm not committed to learning it. I'd knit myself some fingerless gloves! I also can (and should) make myself a rosary type necklace, but haven't done it yet. Is there anything you would like from Conjure Oils general catalogue or the new updates that isn't already on your wishlist? I am only just checking....there are some I am interested in, though Conjure Oils are hit or miss for me (Arcana and BPAL are the two that are the most often WIN for me!) The ones Im interested in are: Mephistopheles, Pazuzu, Abandoned morgue, haunted hayride, witching hour. Am I alone in this, or is there a Book Fair/Comic Con scent you're dying to get your paws on, too? Nothing I'm dying to have. Anyone need address/phone type books? no 9/17/10 Are there any particular movies, tv shows or cd's that you've been meaning to buy for years but just never got round to getting? Would you mind a gently used dvd/cd if your witch had it or could get it?? I can pretty much get everything I need, but thanks... Is there anything from the Possets' Hallowe'en update you're lusting after? Hmmm...don't know if I'm lusting after anything....except, perhaps, Spirit. It's the only one I'll consider buying, I guess. Oh, and Cricket. But I'm intrigued by The girls love ginger, and if the reviews are really gingery I might get it. Also PumPom, phantome, gypsy grave, and dark. Would you like a custom/altered toy either from a seller or from your witch (like My Little Pony, or a Barbie or any particular toy that can be changed?) Ha! I would normally say no, but the toys that are altered to become fetish ponies or fetish barbies crack me up, and since I'm taking so much shit for my former line of work as a dominatrix, sure, I'd take it! Do you like the candy apple, candy corn or pumpkin spice kisses? Not crazy about the first two. Pumpkin spice kisses sound great though! Anne Taintor, anyone? ??? 9/16/10 If I were to knit a scarf, would you prefer a skinny one, or a wide one? A short one, that when wrapped once around your neck will just tuck under your jacket, or a long one, at least to your waist? Skinny and long, please! Don't like scarves? Would a rectangular shawl or triangular shawl be more to your taste? I think I like shawls....not sure I have a preference How do you feel about recipes? I would love to get some recipes, esp. low carb ones... What kind of a cook/baker are you? I am a seat-of-the-pants cook....I look at a recipe and get ideas then adjust it to my taste and don't even usually follow them very closely.....I don't bake much, but I do cook.... Are you happiest calling for delivery or microwaving a lean cuisine, Or will Food Network be asking you to host their new program? None of the above. I've never liked frozen stuff. Delivery doesn't come up to where I live. I cook, but I'm only competent at it. I'd say that if I could have my druthers, I'd eat out a lot , at really good places, but I can't so I have to find good things to cook! If I send you something home made would you like the reciepe for it? If the cook was willing to share, I'd love that! If you are someone who doesn't want baked goods sent, would you like a collection of some of my favorite recipes? I'd be happy with recipes, but um....if you have any desire to bake things for me I would be DELIGHTED with them! How could anyone not want baked things? How about home made mixes or kits? Kind of like the cookie in a jar thing, where you would need to add the perishable ingredients? That sounds intriguing too! Ok, I'm trying a totally new blog entry, hoping that will help with my dreadful formatting problems..... So here is some ketchup! 9/15/10 How do you feek about silly, funny knick-knack, dollar store stuff, stickers, magnets etc? Would you like receiving that kind of stuff or rather not? I love little gifts, so kind of. Magnets are fun and as are stickers, but I have very little space for general knick-knacks. Is there a specific book you've been wanting to get but haven't found the time or the opportunity to? There's probably more than one, but right now I'm really interested in reading the Hunger Games YA series. I tend to get books from the library, but all the libraries here have, srsly, like 29 holds on these books, so it's not likely I'll get them anytime soon! Do you read mangas/watch animes? Which ones? Do you have a particular favourite? Would you like to receive managas or anything related to them? I know nothing about manga, but have always liked the idea....I just don't even know where to start. So if you see anything you think I might like, I'd try it! I like dark fantasy, and sci-fi, and I love animal things...In fact, if anyone is knowledgeable about manga they may know if there are kitsune manga....I've thought there MUST be given how much animal stories are part of Japanese culture, but I wouldn't even know where to begin to look. I know I love graphic novels and memoirs, and have been lusting over the Pride and Prejudice with zombies, and the general collection of zombie comics, but really, I'd be so interested. I've read all the Sandman series and have Gaiman's wonderful book...name is escaping me now....that features Kitsune....it's a collaboration with a Japanese artist...Dream seekers? Something like that. Anyway, stuff like that would be very fun for me. How do people feel about word magnets: I enjoy them, but I have several sets with no place to put them, so probably don't need more. If you could have any costume, or if you aren't into costumes, necklace or other accessory, from any movie character, what would it be? I don't think i have an answer to this one.... How do you feel about samples/decants of things other than BPAL? Soap slices, lotion/scrub/shower gel decants, single use make-up/beauty products, etc. LOVE them! Great for travel, and fun for general sampling. What are you guys going to be aiming for in the Inquisition? Or do you just plan on ordering individual items? I'm not sure that I'm going to order anything as things are tight moneywise with SW and with a whole bunch of dog related expenses. Most of the stuff is expensive, so I absolutely don't expect my witch to get me anything from it, but if I do decide to order anything, I'll post it in the SW thread so there is no possible overlap. I think the thing I'm MOST intrigued by is the Tricksy bath oil, and the Ginger Skulls perfume, though I suspect I would only like a partial of Ginger Skulls. 9/14/10 Chocolate or other types of candy? Chocolate. Or other candy! I don't crave chocolate in the way some people do, because I like savory things more than sweet, but I do LIKE chocolate....esp if it is paired with savory (say peanut butter or caramel or chile or something exotic). And I LOVE fancy truffles but never can justify buying them for myself. And then I love plain old reeses. I am also partial to Smarties that come out at this time of year. But really, my big love is caramel....esp. sea salt caramels. For tea drinkers, do you prefer loose leaf or tea bags? I like loose tea best, but I'm ok with bags. If you would enjoy something of a knitted persuasion, do you have a preference on type of thing? Since making a scarf for someone who has 10 might be a smidge excessive? Also, how do people feel about shawls? Oooh...anything would be wonderful! I have a favorite black cashmere scarf, but I'd be happy to have other soft scarves! I haven't worn a shawl much, but I could see great uses for it--on the plane, while hanging out on the couch (my house isn't terribly warm in the winter). Socks would rock my world, esp. kind of slippery socks. armwarmers or fingerless gloves would be cool! (or fingered ones, come to think of it!) Is there a TV, movie or literary character that you are a lot alike, or would like to be alike? Is there anything you need for your kitchen, ie measuring cups, spoons, grater, ect? I need a good cork screw, but they aren't that cheap, so....What else? I've always kind of wanted one of those small hand graters that are for nutmeg, etc. Actually though of buying one a couple of weeks ago and didn't. Same with parchment paper, and those silicone baking things.... Music, DO you prefer Live or Studio? Edited or explicit? I prefer studio, explicit. If you are an animal lover, is there a specific type/breed that you love most? I love animals, and have answered that some in my original questionnaire. I love all things Nihon-ken, ie. Japanese dog, so Shiba and Akita, particularly! Also flowers and plants- If you like flowers/plants, do you have a favorite(s)? Irises, sunflowers, daffodils, oak and birch trees, ponderosa pine, and eucalyptus. Do you have a favorite quotation? Song lyric? Book passage? WhateverthehecktheycalltheanonymousregionalwisdomthingiePROVERB! that word. I posted some quotes I like in the thread. What is a bpal scent that you've been dying to try for awhile but just can't find? (A scent where even a tester would do) Nothing that anyone could get, I don't think, because my most sought after are really rare. Is there anything you would like that can be delivered over the internet? Things like fanfic recs, cat macros, mp3s you are looking for, how-to or amusing videos, things like that Sure! Clicker training videos for dogs, What would your last meal be if it could be anything in the world (sky is the limit, drinks too, the whole shebang) Oh, so hard! Because a part of me says go for what I loved best....pizza! But I think if it were last meal, I'd have filet mignon with lots of salt and chipotle pepper, asparagus, some good bread and flavored butter, the best damn pinot noir I could find, and creme brulee for desert. NaNoWriMo? yep

I just got this today, literally just got it out of the mailbox and put it on, so this is very much an initial impression sort of review. But so far, I like it! I was thinking I would like Harvest Moon more, and was a bit worried about this one, but I think I may end up liking this more. In the bottle: it is fruits, a hint of nuts, and is somehow a dry scent rather than a juicy one, which is appropriate, perhaps for the time of year. On, it does share some things with some of the dry grasses scents like coyote, etc. Not that it is at all like them, but it has an edge of dry grasses and leaves, which I have decided is sweet grass and oak bark (not that I necessarily get a sweetgrass note, but I get the impression of it). It also has a slight herbal note without being an herbal scent. The blackberry wine and apple is not coming out as a fruit per se, but adding a slight sweetness to this. The nuts just add depth. Overall, I very much agree with Loligo: this is dry and aromatic, and sun warmed, and not fruity per se (and I don't get any booze notes at all). I like it!

I just got mine out of my mailbox, so my impressions may change, but right now I like it. It is not like I expected: I expected to be able to smell the cedar and balsam, but I do not. I get a golden smell, like autumn light, and I do also get the orange/peach vibe sunlitgarden is talking about, but on me it is not to sweet or rotting. There is something pungent but sweet under there...probably sweet wine and grapes. There is a wisp of woodsmoke, so far off I can barely detect it. This evokes the harvest colors of gold and brown to me, but it is slightly perfumy as well. I think I like it.....will see how it wears! eta: after a few minutes the spices do come out, and it is a bit more like mulled...cider I guess, though not quite cider. It becomes a bit more cinnamony than I like, but we'll see!

9/13/10 Dear witch....I did edit this earlier today and for some reason....sigh...it didn't show up. I'm having such an annoying day that even answering SW questions isn't cheering me (well, answering questions would, but technical problems does not) so I'm going to do my best with these, but I likely have missed some, or rather answered them earlier, and then lost said entries. And I'm having a hell of a time with the formatting. As in it wasn't all bolded when I looked last. Hrrmph!) 9/13/10 what interests you from the latest lab update? check my wishlist! How do you feel about stationery, like nice pens or notepaper? And if you're in favor, do you prefer classic/contemporary or cutesy stuff? I love pens and ALWAYS need more....and gel pens or sharpies in cool colors rock my world, but don't really use stationary, and I do have a lot of random paper around as my husband is a pressman and brings back bits and bobs of paper. However, we can seem to never find notepads or sticky notes, so those are often useful. Anything would be fine, but I probably go more cute (in probably only this one case!) If you've got stuff on your BPAL wishlist, would partial bottles be okay? Yes! I prefer partial bottles in fact, as I have never used a full bottle. Would you like something you have to make yourself? Like a kit? I would be into this! Say you were my witchee, and I found things on your wishlist that I could totally make. Would you want me to make it? Or would you rather it be purchased for you? I would LOVE this! I'm happy either way, I mean, but it would be extra special and cool if you made it! Who is your favorite soap etailer? I like Scent Addict and Soap Box company because they have a whole lot of soaps. The one I've been wanting to try most is Paintbox Soaps, and also the soaps made by our own Galahad (I can't remember the name now, but they are probably linked in his profile or sig?) But the ones I've tried that I love are Arcana and Magic Hands. What about vintage decoration items, teacups, etc etc? Hmmm....might like it, depends on what it is. I don't collect anything like this, though. With regards to your gifts, would you prefer your presents' awesomeness evenly spread out (several packages of pretty terrific things) over the round or a slow build-up of awesomeness (going up from pretty cool things to something super-duper cool at the end) to go out with a bang? Do you have a preference? entirely up to my dear witch! What kind of make-up do you wear? What colors? Is there anything you'd like to try but haven't yet? I don't really wear much make up. I like eyeshadow, but never wear it Who would be on your top 5 (IE famous people you'd date/have relations with ) hmmm.....It's not like I don't have celebrity crushes or lust after the unattainable, it's just that right now I'm drawing a blank. Do you crave many Ecards and contact or are you okay with little contact from your Witch? I think I answered this in the thread and on my ?naire, but I do like to have a lot of contact.... Do you have a place where you list all the BPAL you have or have tried? Scentbase profile, linked in my sig, though it only has a portion of what I've tried. Do you like maple sugar candy? I like it, but it's not my absolute fave. What is your position on the chocolate & bacon flavor combination? One of my former swappers gave me some, and it was pretty good. Not to die for, but worth trying for sure. I like wild and out there combs for chocolate. If you are a tea-drinker do you need a tea-cozie for your pot? Probably not. I don't use my pot often enough for it to get cold (and it's a small pot) Go to your spice cabinet, what are the three most used spices? good question! The sea salt with dried garlic grinder, black and the red (which is a black pepper/red pepper combo) and either lemon pepper (no salt) or the trinidad seasoning (garlic, lemon, salt, allspice, red pepper with some other spices). Or one of my various Tabascos. Or dried chipotle pepper. Microsoft or Apple? Mac all the way!!!! Where was your last vacation? What did you like most? I haven't been on a real vacation for years. Last time I took a real trip it was to Haiti, almost 3 years ago. What I liked the most is what I always like: people watching, seeing new places, trying new foods. Would you appreciate receiving handwritten letters and/or postcards (anonymous or not)? How about sending them? Sure! Do you hate any food things with a passion?? Yep. Beets. Endive. Licorice. Liver. celery. Would you be opposed to receiving a digital version (via email) of a magazine you like but don't subscribe to...you know, in the interest of saving a tree? Sure, that would be cool, though I do prefer reading things in hard copy....I like to read in the bathtub 9/12/10 Would you enjoy homemade bath products (bath salts, fizzies, etc.) and/or linen sprays? Esp. if scented with some of your favorite BPAL scents? My question, but yes! If you witch made you something and it didn't come out just right, would you still want it? same as above....yes! I'd still love it, esp. if you regaled me with the story of what you intended! Are you a foodie? I think so....meaning I'm only a competent cook, but I love food, and appreciate well-prepared food and interesting combos, and like to read food mags (though I don't subscribe to any) and watch Top Chef, etc! Any sports fans in the house? What's your favorite sport/team/player? Not really For holidays, do you decorate? Would you like decorative stuff, weenie or otherwise? If so, do you lean towards the elegant, the crafty/folksy, or the more, erm, campy? I don't decorate much, but I do like halloween/dia de los muertos stuff esp if I can use it on my holiday altars. Do you like journals/notebooks/sketchbooks? I do like some fancy ones, but honestly, I pretty much do all my journaling online in macjournal. Some things I missed: Favorite Halloween/Scary movies/books i'm wimpy, and don't watch many scary movies because gore and violence freaks me out in movies.....it just gets stuck in my head, and I can't deal. But atmospheric scary movies work (like Rosemary's Baby, or stuff like that), and even though they are graphically violent, I do like zombie movies. I do like scary novels though. Peter Straub's Ghost Story is my favorite horror book, but I also like The Shining and others. COMIC BOOKS. Do you read them? Are there any series you like, or some you would like to try? I want the zombie comic books--there are two series, one of which is written by a forumite! I love Neil Gaiman's stuff. I'm really into graphic novels/graphic memoir like Alison Bechdal's Fun Home. 9/4/10 Are you into Austen's books? Wow, I'm an English professor and just realized I've never read Jane Austen. How can that be, you ask? My literary field was 20th century American lit. Still, I should read her, yes? Do you read Tarot cards? If not, would you be interested? I LOVE tarot cards and anything Tarot related. These are the decks I have: Voodoo Tarot of New Orleans (my main deck), World Spirit Tarot, Animal Divine Tarot, Golden Tarot, a standard Rider Waite deck, and the Alchemy Tarot, but there are plenty of others I would love. Really, almost any. I didn't mean to become a collector of Tarot decks, but I kind of am. So for those of you who are into Harry Potter at all, which house do you think you'd be sorted into? I only read one of the books. People have told me I would like them if I read the ones where he is older, like the Halfblood prince (is that the name?) but I don't know. I could be convinced if I got the book, I guess. What, if anything, is your guilty TV watching pleasure? I don't watch much TV. I used to like Top Chef and Project Runway, and the guilty pleasure was America's Next Top Model, but basically I just don't watch much TV. If you cosplay or need a costume for your bellydance/burlesque hobby (or any other hobby which needs dressup/different from your normal wear), is there anything you need/want for it? I wish I had something like this, but I have no cosplay or anything like that. Celebrity crush?: Johnny Depp, of course. George Clooney. Knitted things?: LOVE! What about [mixed or otherwise] DVDs? I love mixed CDs/DVDs/mp3 music mixes. But I really love music mixes in CD formula because I listen to music a lot in the car, and have a very old CD player than can't play MP3 cds. DVDs: Do you prefer widescreen or formatted? Either Music: Any preference towards MP3 or CD? CD, see above. Do you like scented tarts? Yep!! Lip balms? You know, I pretty much just use Rosebud Salve, but if it was moisturizing with no sun screen, I'd try it! Do you have any body mods? If so, do you need any new jewelry, o-rings, plugs, etc (and if so, what size, length, etc)? Do you like pro-body mod stickers? tats and pierced ears, that's all. I hardly wear earrings anymore. Booze. Do you drink it, would you like some Yes, I drink! I like good hoppy beers, but will try almost any type of beer, but do not like Porters or real malty beers. I like good, dry wine(And an occasional dessert wine) and adore sparkling wines. I would like try to mead. I like ciders. I like good rum, which for me is almost only Haitian so that's probably not useful info. What is your favorite artist or art style? (including if you have links to favorite pictures/paintings/photographs) I like folk art, and I think I answered this in my questionnaire.... Girlyness level? Medium. Tomboy? Sexy biker mama? (Did I just say that?) I wear jeans and ts and leather and boots and some make up, but not regularly. 9/02/10 Baked goods: the LOVE! Spoil me all you want with those! Gifts for other household members: Ok, but not needed. My dogs would enjoy toys, but they have a lot, and since they are destructive, if you choose to do this, it should be something cheap. They are on a grain-free diet, too. My husband doesn't need anything and even I find him hard to buy for so, I'd say no. Are you someone who'd rather have lots of small testers of different things on your wishlist, or would you rather have one or two "big" things? Testers of rares would would be wonderful. I'll be happy with anything. But I do prefer partial bottles to imps, rare stuff aside. social networking usernames, ie twitter, facebook, livejournal, ravelry, anything else: Here is my fb profile I'll put it up on SW for friending to start, so you won't be given away would you like to receive Groupons or similar deals/gift certificates from your Witch? I guess? Not sure I know what they are, but I like a good deal as much as anyone! How about tshirt/bottoms sizes? I wear an xl or xxl in BPTP shirts. Probably an xl but I don't mind the looseness of the bigger size. Bottoms depend. I tend to get xl, but I am a size 12-14 so it depends. symbols? foxes, ravens, owls, vodou veves (esp. for Legba) or vodou designs, spirals, moons. Do I leave the old SW answers? I guess so, but they are old! Here is the new Fall '10 SW answers. this time around, I think I'll just update/edit this one entry when I have new questions/answers: 9/7/10 Socks? Anyone? Yes! Socks are good, and I need something to fit under boots that don't have holes in them! What is something you use to comfort yourself when feeling yucky, depressed, or in pain? Have a good beer and take a bath, with bubbles! 9/6/10 When you go to an etsy wishlist, it will tell you what things are sold. If you click on the sold item, sometimes it will give options that are similar to what was sold, but not identical, would you like the similar item or prefer not to get it at all unless it's the same item? How picky are you? Not picky. I leave this stuff up so people can get an idea of what I like, but also so I can see it, because often I'm looking at jewelry and thinking, can I make that? So it is just ideas, that's all! Do you wear make up? I occasionally wear makeup--eye shadow and lipstick. I love to play with it. I don't really wear it much though. I do paint my toenails, though! Disney movies, Yay or Nay, and favourites if you do like them? NO! Do you have A VCR, DVD Player or Blue Ray or a combo of the three? DVD Would you like custom icons as a gift? Oh, that would be very cool! 9/5/10 What is your favourite snack food, something you could grab any time? cheese, nuts (trail mix), yogurt (when I'm trying to be healthy) but there are plenty of things I love (some listed in my questionnaire) that are not so healthy. I like pita chips in particular for salt. I like dried veggies and spicy snack mixes. Ebooks Sadly, I have no way to read them. Nail Polish: Yes, I always have toe nail polish on. Soft/plushy things: I do like some of the things from think geek, and I often think plushies are cute, but I have to admit I'd have to keep them away from the dogs, who also love them. But are considerably harder on them! (So it wold probably have to be small enough to be kept up). What hobby/craft would you like to learn how to do? I think this is covered in my questionnaire and in my SW help thread. For those who decorate for Halloween, do you prefer cute decorations or creepy ones?: Also, as part of the cute-or-creepy question, would you want hand made, molded, glazed (by yours truly!) ceramic decorations (napkin rings, potporri/tart warmers, etc) to add to your stock? Creepy! Some cute stuff is cool too, though I definately go more for the creepy! And handmade anything is wildy cool! I'd be so happy to get these kinds of things! (probably wouldn't use napkin rings, though). how do you feel about mortars and pestles I have been wanting one forever! I never buy one, but always mean to! Is there anything you have a phobia of, or that would make you go "squick" if you saw it in a package? Well, clearly fake spiders are ok, but I don't really like them, and same with cockroaches. Ick. And eyeballs. (All halloween related stuff, obviously).

Orange blossom, East Indian sandalwood, and champaca. Maybe this will be good when it ages, but since I have aged orange blossom perfumes that I like a lot (I'm looking at you, Vixen, but also some other perfumes) why would I bother getting this? Still a review above summed it up for me.... This SHOULD work. There is no reason for it not to--I like all three notes, and because I'm absolutely crazy about BPAL's earlier scents, which sometimes are slightly less complex than the later ones, I should like this. But I don't. It's doing the wierd thing orange blossom/neroli can sometimes do, which is to turn to a slightly pickley smell. And the sandalwood isn't grounding this enough/reining it in. So I end up with a harsh, pickle-like orange blossom and that's mostly it. Not my thing. I'll stick to Vixen, which I love, and also some Madini and Arcana perfumes for my orange blossom fix.

Apparently Doll's Eye's is a type of Baneberry. Not that I know what Baneberry smells like, but I was at least familiar with the plant Anyway, on me, this is much like others said: a soft, minty herbal scent with a hint of sweetness that is not necessarily honey (ie. is not the rich, heady honey BPAL SN honey). I do like it, actually, but it is quite different than the honey scents in the GC category, which are heavier on the Lab's honey note (a note I love!) For me this is mostly a sweet minty herbal. Reminds me a bit of pennyroyal without the fizziness.
-
Had to quote this for two reasons: one, this review made me order an imp of this from the lab. I love me some Flying Fox, so had to try it. Two, I think you're pretty spot on in your review. It DOES smell like Lush's Flying Fox! So it's thick sweet honey, and jessamine, which is not quite as heady as the white jasmine, but certainly, that is a minor point as they are very, very similar in scent to me. It reminds me, also, of BPAL's swadhisthana, which is a stronger "jasmine" note and more sugared than honeyed, and has something herby and musky in it as well. I adore Swadhisthana, but the fact is, it is really too much to wear most of the time, and it strikes me that this might be a softer solution: similar but not overwhelming. yes, I like this well enough that I might at least consider a partial bottle.

Horse Chesnuts are one of my favorite trees--they are magical in the spring, when their flowers are like bright white candles.... But for all my love of the trees, which incidently, have only grown in places I've lived briefly, I don't remember much about the actual chestnut, other than people found them a nuisance for some reason.... All this to say, I had no idea what this would smell like. But I like it. It's honey with a warm addition, that yes, I guess is faintly nutty, but thankfully not overwhelming as I am not a fan of nuts as scents. I THINK I recall that real chestnuts (not horse chestnuts) when roasted don't have a traditional "nut" scent, so perhaps that is what I'm getting? There is also a nice greenness in this. Whatever it is, it cuts the sweetness quite a bit--for example this one is much less sweet dripping honey than honey tobacco is (I have four honeys on right now, so I'm comparing!) This one warrants more wear and more exploration for me. It is more than just my beloved BPAL honey note--it has it's own complexity, green and nutty too. Quite nice, but after it sits a bit I do get a bit of carmelized wierdness that other noticed, so I hope that doesn't last long or goes away....
-
Huh....I was also expecting tobacco + honey, rather than tobacco flower, but honestly, I'm not sure which it is I'm getting. Honey for sure. Really, sweet, dripping honey, so sweet you can barely stand it, and honey has it's own flowery scent, so I can't tell if the flowery bits are coming from honey, or if it is indeed tobacco flower (though I would think that would have gone under the name nicotiana, as it is more usually called if we're referring to the flowering kind?) I think I DO get a bit of tobacco, as in the dried smokable, under the honey. To me, at least when wet and on a first wearing, I get a bit of blonde tobacco with my honey. And something--is it just the tobacco?--that is almost aquatic, which for me gives it the "men's cologne" vibe. It is masculine in feel, almost clean once the honey starts to soften and lose a touch of it's aggressive sweetness. Not exactly what I was looking for, but not bad.

Hops wouldn't have gluten anyway, would it? It's a flower, and not from a grain. -
Well, I had a feeling I'd like this--patchouli and vanilla? How could I not? I tried to order a bottle when it came back for sale, but it sold out too quick. I was given an imp of this by a wonderfully generous forumite, and honestly was hoping I wouldn't like it that much, because I won't ever be able to get it anyway.... But of course I do like it. Quite a bit. It's not like a holy grail scent, thankfully, and it has a little bit of girliness, of a kind of perfume I would expect to appeal to people who shop at Urban Outfitters (no offense meant there, but there is a certain type). But perhaps that is just "sour grapes" since I can't get more of this anyway. On me, it is hippie patchouli, but without the kind of "mold" note that some patchouli has (esp. fresh patchouli, either as an oil or growing fresh). So maybe I should say sort of cleaned up hippie patchouli, like patchouli incense that has been sweetened with a dose of vanilla candy. Not straight up vanilla, not rich vanilla or bourbon vanilla, or the actual vanilla orchid, but sweet vanilla candy. It's toned down because of the strength of the patchouli, and it blends together really well. I'm sure the hemp is in there too, but I don't get much of a sense of it. Yeah, this is really nice, and I can see why people want it. It's like a young and girly version of a hippie patchouli perfume and in spite of that, it is quite wearable and appealing. I'm going to wear it a bit more and see if I'm really crazy about it or not, though I'm not sure why, since I don't see how I'll get more....

This one doesn't seem as true to the usual BPAL "snow" scents. Before I looked up the notes, I thought, huh, mint? Menthol? Eucalyptus? Not a strong note, but something like that, something sharp and minty. There is also something like dried herbs. I don't get nearly as much of the evergreens as I do in some other blends, but perhaps it is that they are of a different sort (like Yew and hemlock). I do get some of the bayberry too. It doesn't have the lovely evergreen/snow which has an almost citrus edge that I love in Skadi and Snow moon. It's ok, but not my favorite.
-
I remember wanting this moon because I loved the description, the silver foxes. Of course, I needed something with silver foxes. But I also didn't think I really needed the scent, because I have several snow scents. Still, I've been wanting to try it ever since, and finally got some... And it is nice, but not a "must have" (or so I thought initially). It is very chilly and very much in the group of BPAL "snow" scents, and of course I have Snow Moon, which I love, which pretty much takes care of my "snow" needs (though I also have a couple of others, Knecht Ruprecht, Skadi, etc). The juniper is clear in this and either it or the pine has a slightly citrus smell which is true of the "snow" scents. There is something else in here, though, that is quite compelling. Sage? Maybe a white sage? Rosehip? I don't get copal at all. Anyway, I actually do kind of like this....will need to compare it side by side with Snow Moon.... Actually, it gets better. It gets more complex and spicy, which is really nice. And something slightly sweet and floral comes out too, making this much more complex. Someone said snow on the plains, and that makes sense to me. Hmmm....I wonder if I will have to track down a bottle after all?

I got this from the lovely Stellans, as it is my "chapter" in our BPAL sorority, and I had not tried it before. (It is from the month I joined the forum). She said it is her holy grail of lunacies, and I can totally see why! When I smelled it in the imp, I thought it might have red musk in it, but a nice, toned down red musk, but I see it does not. Perhaps it is simply that in a six year old perfume, the DB has calmed and I'm reading that as red musk? In any case, it is red and fruity when wet, and though the only fruit is orange peel, it has the "flavor" of more fruit, something slightly berry like, but sometimes I read DB as fruity, so perhaps that is it. It also has a lovely almost vanilla note from the heliotrope (how I love heliotrope!) and the amber adds some sweetness and depth too. The only herb I can identify is marigold, but there is a nice dried herb feel to this too, that suits the end of summer vibe. Overall, this is gorgeous, and I'm so glad I got to try it! It's interesting, too, because I went back and read my review for Red Moon 2007, which I ended up liking ok, but not keeping it. What was different? Red musk and sunflower. I rarely like red musk, and I suspect in an unaged perfume it would be particularly strong, and I see that I didn't get heliotrope out of the 2007 version, either. Even though they are similar, I think the 2004 version is by far the better version, and I am so happy to have a bit!

Got a sample of this from the lovely Stellans, and it is gorgeous! On me it starts out as blackberry and milk, with a nice sharpness that is not ozone, but is very like BPAL's usual "snow" note which is chilly and evergreen (like Snow Moon or Skadi) So far, no wax or candles, but what I do get is surprisingly wonderful (surprisingly because I didn't get this because I thought I wouldn't like the blackberry note) It reminds me of blackberries with cream poured over them, without the sugar, and being eaten in a room where a scotch pine christmas tree is giving off its bright chilly scent. It does remind me of the earliest milk moon scent, a bit, and is certainly in that family. I love the lab's milk scents! It is really quite wonderful, though I suspect it may not last long. The candle/wax scent comes in after it has been on awhile...and the milk fades....I like the earlier part better. This might be worth tracking down a bottle of!

Brown sugar, sassafras, clove, and wild plum. This smells like pickles in the imp. Bread and butter pickles. I am not excited about that, but am tickled by the name, which sounds like a metaphor for a couple of sex acts. Still, the pickle scent is unfortunate, esp. because when I put it on, it still smells like pickles. Christmas potpourri pickles! I think this is not for me.
-
I thought this smelled like banana in the imp. That was what coconut, apricot and currant blended together to my nose. I don't really like banana as a scent, so that was not promising at all. But I dutifully put it on. Now it is interesting. It is the apricot of March Hare, a scent I'm just crazy about, but with vetiver! Now how odd a combo is that? On me it smells kind of like if the March Hare had a slight accident with flames and singed some of his fur. It has a slightly smoky note. I'm amping the vetiver more than my friend who tried it at the same time. She ended up mostly apricot. I don't know that I need more of this--I like the March Hare better and on me they are similar. But I'm glad I got to try it, esp. since my dog's name is Jezebel (but she is UNCOMMON Jezebel, of course! )
