I can't believe I've been on the forum for as long as I have, and have never reviewed this. In fact, I tried it and completely forgot about it. But I rediscovered it recently and fell in love. This is just what it says it is, but somehow more complex. Bright and fruity from the apricot, and clove of course gives it a nice bite, but it smells like more than just apricot and clove. It has a slightly boozy note--it reminds me of brandied apricot jam in a rich shortbread. I don't know where I'm getting the slightly boozy note or the pastry note, but I do. it smells like the most delicious apricot tart, and I find it quite addicting. And now, after all these years as a BPAL-ista, I'm going to get a bottle.

I recently was able to buy some of this on the forum--and I had really been looking forward to it. I'll second everyone else's comments about wishing for more pumpkin: I did too. To me it smells like pumpkin pie spice (that mix of cinnamon, cloves, allspice et al) without the pumpkin. Still, it smells good, so I did what I always do with BPTP bath oils--put it on after a bath as a lotion. BIG mistake. This burned so much on my thighs and inner arms that I had to get back in the shower to wash it off (and wasn't entirely successful with that). I don't usually have sensitive skin for this sort of thing, so that surprised me, but perhaps it was because my pores were open as I'd been in the bath? So I can't report too much on how the scent lasts or anything like that, though I will say that on me it had a slightly funky undertone--like how amber sometimes can go funky--which I didn't like. I think I'll mix my remaining oil with another carrier oil before I use the rest of it.

I am so sad about this one. I had to have it: vanilla, patchouli, myrrh, nutmeg and chile? So it never occurred to me that I would get none of those notes, not in the bottle nor on my skin. This is musk. All musk. I know it says dark musk, but this smells like a white musk to me or an egyptian musk, one of those so-called "skin musks." It smells silvery and moonlit and....musky. I wish it smelled like black lace but my bottle really doesn't at all. And I don't particularly like musk. I wish I was getting vanilla. Or resins. Or spice. But I'm not at all, and I don't think this is one that will age and be ok for me, because I don't think those notes are suddenly going to appear for me. And it lasts and lasts. Put it on last night to try it for the third time and when I woke I could still smell that skin musk. Yep, the one I don't like. I may try it a couple more times, but I doubt this is going to work on me at all. Off to swaps!

Yep, I get the cologny note too in the imp and when I first put it on. Not like copal at all... It starts drying both literally and scent-wise, and it begins to be a bit desert like, which is nice. When it dries down, it reminds me just slightly of Pais de Canela which I have on the other arm--the cologne note has turned to a faint balsam pine background with the dry gold scent in the forefront. It does remind me of Xiuhtecuhtli, but is not so overwhelming as that scent is. I wish had more of a true copal resin scent. I'll see what I think after I've worn it awhile, but I don't think I'll need a bottle.

Yup, smells like a christmas tree on me too, which is a scent I love, so I quickly put it on! On me it is lovely green that gets richer and lusher (but still has that soft balsam pine note) and then a very soft cinnamon, like kind of cinnamon used in Mexico, rather than cassia. Very gentle, but this is mostly green on me. I like it, but will have to see how it develops. This is a quick review and I haven't even had it on very long, so it may change. eta: a bit later, the cinnamon is getting stronger. To me, this is a very Yule like scent--soft balsam pine and greenery and a lovely sweet/soft cinnamon. I like it, and will consider a bottle.

I didn't buy this during the update because I was worried that it would be too aquatic, or that it would be like Death of Autumn or some of the other autumn scents that haven't worked for me. But I was curious. And when people started saying it smelled like Samhain, my interest was really piqued. Samhain has been an all time favorite of mine, but I have not been able to wear it for several years (a change in meds seemed to change my skin chemistry enough to make some beloved perfumes not work). Samhain had taken on an odd sharp note that was not pleasant when I wore it. So I tracked down a bottle of this instead, and it is perfect! Just what I wanted! In the bottle it smells slightly aquatic--the rain?--and that initially worried me, but on? Absolutely like Samhain used to smell on me, except it is missing a bit of the fruitiness I got out of Samhain in the early stages. This is all resin and wood without smelling like a resin blend. It's not so much that it smells like dry leaves (though it does have a bit of that sweet spice) but that it evokes the memory of leaves, but in this case wet leaves. It is a perfect cool autumn evening, after a rain. I was trying to explain to my boyfriend what the notes were, so I pulled out some natural incense I have (ie. raw resins and wood). I let him smell the agarwood, and we both noted it is very distinct in this blend. The opoponox, a note I love, is not as bright as some opoponox is, but it still very lovely, and adds a sweet slightly spicey, slightly piney note to it. And the oakmoss is not noticeable to me, thankfully, but it probably is adding to the dark feel overall. I'm really happy to have this to replace Samhain.

The Phantom Cow of Yerba Buena Island
cuervosueno replied to midnight_aeval's topic in Event Exclusive Oils
Just wanted to say that I did the same thing--compare this to other milk scents. I didn't actually try it side by side with MM 07, because that is much more fruity than milky on me, but I did try it with Nonae caprotina, and I agree--nonae is much milkier, buttery, and foody, and this is green, herbal and I also get just a hint of sage. It is not at all like I expected it to be. I was hoping for something like Nonae, or like the original Milk Moon, pretty heavy on the milk. Instead, this is more aquatic. I usually don't like aquatics at all, but because this does have the milk and herbs, I don't mind it. In the bottle, and wet, I get mostly a salt-watery scent softened by milk and very fresh green herbs. I get the oregano vibe too, and it is fairly strong when wet, but when it dries, it sweetens, as if actual yerba buena comes out (which I always thought was mint, but apparently there is an actual plant called yerba buena). It dries down to a sweet green scent, green and fresh like sap, with an herbal (rather than sugary) sweetness, and a hint of milk, though that is in the background. And it's kind of watery (sea water?) scented too.... It's also kind of deserty scented, as odd as that sounds in terms of what I wrote above. I guess the green is more the sharp green of arid places rather than a lush, jungle like green. Wait! I got it! Now i know what it reminds me of: Islands in Greece--dry hills spotted with wild oregano and rosemary and other herbs, the sea, and a hint of a milky sweet. At first I was disappointed it was like Nonae, but now I like it, and I may keep it. I can always get a bottle of Nonae too... -
Just wanted to say, yup, yup, to the comparison to yankee candles. Which in my mind is a good rather than a bad thing. The dry down of this is that apple spice candle effect. But I love how it starts out most. It is milky at first, and in the beginning I think of it as Milk Moon (early version) meets apple cider. Strong milky note and the spiced cider. LOVE IT! I'm sorry that the milk note fades on me, but as I have gotten rid of all my other spiced cider scents, I'm still pretty happy to have this. The apple also falls a bit to the wayside after an hour or so, so it is mostly spice....it might be nice to layer this with another apple scent that would bring that fruitiness back to the foregroung. And also, since I miss the milk note, I might try layering this over a milky scent.... But overall, I quite like this, and of the various decants I got, this is probably one of the ones I'm mostly likely to get a bottle of.

I seem to be following Ahania around and reviewing Weenies after her! Which makes sense, since I got my decants from her Ahem. On to the review. I wasn't sure what to expect from this at all. I like hops in scents (I'm thinking of roadhouse) and I love incense. Cakes are good too. So had to try it. I really like it. It reminds me of Haloa--ie a slightly sour scent (the beer) with cake! But the incense is also a player in this, and it is a soft but pervasive note, like the ash left incense, rather than incense burning. The sourness fades quickly and I'm just left with a hint of booze and cake and incense, mostly the latter. I really like it a lot, but it is very light with little throw at all. It does seem to last....I put some on around 2 am last night and at 10 am I could still faintly smell it. But very faint. It sticks close to the body. If I decide to get more--and I may--I'll really have to slather, which I don't usually do, because I like my scents to have more throw than this.

Note to self: YOU DO NOT LIKE RED MUSK! phew! got that out of the way, but could someone remind me of that everytime I'm tempted by a scent with red musk? Because look at all those lovely notes: frankincense, tonka, vanilla, clove, balsam. I love all that, and would very much have enjoyed a scent with those things in them. But I sniff it in the imp: Whoa! Red musk! Still, I've got to try it. I put it on. Red Musk, Red Musk, Red musk (please say this like "redrum redrum redrum" from The Shining). After quite awhile, during which time I resist my urge to either wash it off or cover it with something more appealing (as if that would help!), I sniff my arm, and, yep. RED MUSK. This time with a little bit of clove. Cruel. Very cruel indeed. And not nearly as seductive as Mircalla should be. And I love that story, too.....
-
I don't get the marshmallow vibe that some others are getting. On me, this is very like the older Milk Moon (not the fruity one) or Chaste moon. I get the lovely BPAL milk scent that I really like, plus sugar! It's like sweet milk, and then the dryness of the linen comes in which stops it from being overly sweet or cloying. Also, sometimes the milk scents go a bit sour on me, but this doesn't at all. It stays sweet, but not too sweet, and creamy. A winner! But I do have several milk scents and so I'll have to decide if I need another one. I may try for a partial bottle.

New round of Switchwitchery means new questions...
cuervosueno posted a blog entry in cuervosueno's blog
...and answers. So here is the first round of Fall 09 questions I'm trying to catch up, well before the round even begins! What are everyone's favorite Halloween-y/Autumn-y/spooky movies? Are there any you don't own but would like to? Hmmm...I don't know...I like spooky but not much real horror as it is usually too gory for me. I guess I'm pretty much covered on this. Are roasted pumpkin seeds and home made chex mix the best fall snack foods, or what? I could eat the roasted pumpkin seeds, but chex mix (which is delicious) would send my blood sugar soaring, so, no thanks. Whats your favorite pie, my dear SW's? I love pie, but it's another of the things diabetics (and people who are seriously close to being diabetic, like me) shouldn't really eat. That said, my favorites are coconut cream, raspberry or blackberry, and raspberry rhubarb. Oh, and lemon cream too. Oh there were so many. I find pie much preferable to cake. What kinda socks are you wearing tonight? No socks...not cold enough yet. Actually, I pretty much only wear socks when I'm wearing boots, which would mean out of the house. Otherwise, wooly slippers do the trick. And wooly flip flops, which I'm wearing now. Do you like socks? Blankets? Wrist warmers? Arm warmers? Headband? Shawl? Or what kind of knitted thing would you love the most? I love socks, though, see above, I only wear them when I'm out of the house. Don't let that stop you from thinking of them as a possibility though--I've been very very envious of those getting sock dream gifts or, even better, hand knit socks! But I'm even more interest in arm warmers. Or gloves. But really, if someone was hand knitting something for me I'd be delighted by anything. How do you feel about ghost stories? Do you like to tell the old tales around a campfire? Read true accounts on the web way past your bedtime? Do you like to pick up a good anthology of Poe stories on a blustery day? Or is all that too scary for you? I LOVE ghost stories, esp. true ones. My last Witch was Kristana, the ghost hunter (ok, paranormal investigator) and she sent me her book, which I read straight through right away. Who here is LOVING Warehouse 13? Haven't watched it yet, but maybe it is time. Nother question! Coffee or Tea? Both, but at the moment, coffee would get more use. Love it. Dark roast. whole bean. Flavors? No nuts. But cinnamon or some other spice, or vanilla, or chocolate would be lovely. Interested in locally produced products? Food, skincare or both? Sure! Does anyone in here wear a lot of dangly earrings or collect pendants of all kinds? How about hair clips or pony tail band things? Pendants, yes. I love dangly earrings but can't remember the last time I wore earrings, so they probably wouldn't get much play. What is your favourite historical period? This one. Hmmm....I'm not interested in historical periods per se, but history does interest me, esp. American history. What other hot beverages everyone likes for fall? Cider is delish. Did you order anything from the most recent update? Not yet. But I know there is stuff I want. I will probably order some weenies, but in case my witch is feeling flush and wants to send me some, I'll update my wishlist by indicating which ones I'm likely to order or have ordered. Olive oil? Oh yeah. And flavored vinegar. Yum. Lavender? No. Well, that means I don't like it in fragrance. I like it as a seasoning, and I love fresh lavender, like if my witch wanted to somehow miraculously send me a real lavender plant through the mail I would with great delight plant it in my herb garden. Dried lavender sprigs are saved for purpose magical and mundane. But I hate the way it smells in perfume. Vampires or Werewolves? Or some other monster? Oh...zombies. One of these days I will buy the zombie survival guide (or won't--it may be one of those things I want but never buy). I like werewolves if they are really creatures that turn into wolves. Any Gamers here? What kind? Board games? RPG? Miniature? MMORPG? I like board games. RPG and MMORPG are fun but I'm not playing any now unless unicreatures counts. Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put any number of items in the box that symbolize who you are. The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. Which items do you choose? A fox fetish and an owl fetish. a book of my poetry (it might bit folded, but...). Photos of my dogs. a black leather glove. Frankincense and copal resin. The Voodoo Tarot of New Orleans. Feathers. A mix CD. A bit of dirt from the Santuario at Chimayo NM. Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? Too many. Since I'm a writer, there are so many on-going projects: a memoir. A collection of short stories. And this year I'm going to do nanowrimo since I have not one but two genre novels to try out. Also I'm learning to sew and play the djembe and paint with acrylics. My life is a work in progress! Is anyone playing this round of SW into ABJ? I love looking at pics of them, and have to admit a desire to have one, but probably won't ever get one. favorite kind or take out kinda burger? whats your burger preference? veggie, meat or ???? I love burgers. My fave are from a local bar, called the black and blue burger: blackened burger with blue cheese. I prefer gourmet burgers. Whats your favorite childhood toy? stuffed animals, books, a simple bouncy rubber ball, and my bike. If you have a pet, what kind of gifts would be good for them? My dogs would love gifts, but the German Shepherd shouldn't eat grains, though the other two can. Kai would love a bouncy ball. The shibas would love anything, but don't need anything, and will be seriously interested in any packages whether it includes anything for them or not. Do you Tweet? What is your Twitter name? No. I think it would annoy me. Are you on Ravelry? What is your Ravelry name? I don't knit. Would any witches be interested in home-made sewn type crafts? If so, what type? (e.g. tote bags, pillowcases, laptop covers, etc..) I love homemade stuff, and anything my witch wanted to come up with would be mightly appreciated. I could use a couple more Tarot bags, probably. -
More Fall SW questions: any cooks? could you use anything cooking related? aprons? cookbooks? measuring cups? recipes? herb/spice containers? fancy spices? dish towels? cocktail napkins? amazing beaded pot holders? (like from our very own pottersville!) something else? I'm eating low carb, so those kinds of recipes/cook books would be welcome. Spices are always great, and measuring devices are always in short supply around here. Dish towels too--I love those flower sack type. I am cooking a lot more since I have to..... are you an avid reader? what's your favorite book/series? I love to read, and can't think of favorites because there are so many. I'm still not happy that George RR Martin didn't finish the fire and ice series. One of my favorite literary series was Madison Smartt Bell's series on the history of Haiti (Master of the Crossroads et al). an anonymous benefactor gives you $500 (or an equivalent amount of money in your currency of choice) with the following stipulations. You must spend all of it within a week: any money left unspent must be returned. You must spend at least half of the money on yourself. You may not use it to pay off debts or bills of any kind. what do you do with the money? Of course I would have used it for bills, so good thing that stipulation was in there! I'd probably make a big BPAL order since I haven't ordered in the longest time. I'd take my boyfriend out to dinner and wouldn't let him pick where we'd go since he'd pick some place cheap. Or better yet, take the whole amount and go somewhere for the weekend? Now that sounds more fun.....
-
What GC scent have you been putting off getting since it'll "always be there"? Several, actually. Antique Lace. Troll. White Rabbit. March Hare. And there are the ones I haven't even tried yet... Are you interested in things like home remedies for ailments, cleaning solutions, etc.? Sure! In your perfect world it is chocolate and...? Chocolate is kind of "meh" for me...I enjoy it but don't crave it. But I like it with caramel. Or peanut butter. How do you scent your home Tarts, reed diffusers, BPAL, candles? Candles, kind of, meaning I always need them and like scented ones, but I don't rely on them for scent. I use incense and BPTP (and other) atmosphere sprays.
-
*Could you use a 'travel' imp case? How many should it hold? I have one, but I could use another. It only needs to hold about 6 imps. I'm crazy about little containers in general.... *As a witchee, would you prefer to have many little packages sent to you throughout the round with a not-so-big final package or fewer things throughout the round with one HUGE final package to seal the sweetness? I'm fine with whatever works for my witch. *What is your idea of the perfect evening at home? After a good dinner with the BF, a good book, and me curled up on the couch with Toby, my dog, sleeping on the back of the sofa. With a good beer. *How often do you update your wishlist? - Not as often as I should. As of this date, my dear witch, I have not updated them, and my BPAL wishlist in particular is out of date. I will do it in the next couple of days. *May I help you fill out your costuming wardrobe (assuming you costume)? Are there articles you are seeking to enhance your a) Halloween costume, Renfest attire, c) Cosplay, d) Steampunk accouterment? Hmm...I don't really costume, but somehow all of this just really intrigues me....so small costumey stuff would be fun, probably in terms of steampunk or renfest....just small period touches to add to regular outfits. *Who are your favorite artists/illustrators/art periods? - I love folk art, esp. Haitian, African, Mexican and Native American. I love artists with a folk art feel. Some of my favorites are Thalia Took, Susan Seddon Boulet, Diana Bryer, Franz Marc, hmm...and others....I enjoy goddess art and animals, esp. if they have that folk art look. I don't like realist art. *Do you mind receiving used (in good condition, of course) CDs or DVDs? (I know this question was on the questionnaire about books, but I didn't see one for DVDs or CDs.) - Used CDs and DVDs are great! *what's your stance on cranberries? - *Do you have a crush on anyone famous? Do you have a crush on any literary characters? Would you like fanfiction or fan art based on this/these people? - I'm not crazy about fanfic/fan art. *You're at home, or out, and you want a snack. Something that will get you through to the next meal, or through to the end of school or what ever. What do you grab? - Nuts or cheese....something low carb. Even before my need to go low carb, I prefered salty snacks.

When I saw this on the update, I knew I should buy it. But then I didn't. But the reviews kept calling to me, and finally I kicked some sense into myself and got this.... Gorgeous! Heavy smoke in the bottle, but even then, it is sweet smoke, not the acrid smoke of say, Djinn. In the bottle the bay rum is fairly clear too. On, it is just wonderful. Like someone was burning maple and added some spicy incense. The bay rum gives it spice, and though I can't smell the myhrr per se, I'm sure it is adding to the incense vibe. I don't get rose, but there is something sweet here, so perhaps that is it. eta: actually its a golden sweetness so is probably the frankincense. It is a perfect sweet smoke perfume, though I still am craving CB I hate Perfumes burning leave scent (which I thought this might be a good replacement for, longer lasting, etc). It doesn't quite have the clean crisp sweetness of that scent, but that's ok, I can always have two sweet smoke perfumes!

Adding some questions for my SW's illumination (or overwhelmation....oh, shoot, that isn't a word! ) ***6/29*** Do you like coconut? yeah, but I like coconut milk/cream mostly, and probably am not crazy about coconut unless it is simply an ingredient in something else. Puddin' posts ebay sales of older stuff every now and then - what of the current lot are you dying for? Nuttin'. I've pretty much tried and passed on anything I would want from that list. Do you tweet? Nope What kind of mythology are you interested in? All kinds, but especially African, Celtic, Native American, Japanese. But really, it all intrigues me, except that while I'm not against Egyptian, I'm also not terribly compelled by it, and the same is true of Classic Greek/Roman....I mean, I know it fairly well, am conversant in how it shows up in literature, but it doesn't really speak to me. ***6/28*** Do you wear makeup or nail polish? Need brushes, containers, storage, mani/pedi supplies? What colors and brands do you like? I don't wear much makeup (but am still fascinated by mineral makeup esp. eyeshadow. I desperately need brushes. I LOVE nailpolish, though I mostly just do my toes, with occasional forays into fingernails. I like reds with blue undertones, purples, gold/bronze, black, sparkly stuff in all fun colors, though I tend to go for pink/red/orange on the toenails (I'm WAY more adventurous on the toenails....on the fingernails I pretty much stick to cool (ie winter/blue undertones) which I know will look ok with my skintone. Do you like shiney hanging porch decorations like windchimes or those things that spin and swirl in the wind? Oh my yes! Was absolutely craving windchimes recently (though I want them to sound good!). And those spinning things? Love 'em! Garden things or things to hang in trees fascinate me! Hair adornments? My hair is not conducive to this in its current layerd state. Is there any infomercial product you're dying to try even though you know it probably sucks? I don't watch enough tv to know.... What are your favorite websites (besides this one, and the online shops you listed in your questionnaire)? Oh! everyone has totally enabled me on this, but at the moment, right now, I'm mostly occupied by unicreatures. Do you tweet? I'm not listening! I'm not listening! I refused facebook for the longest time too, but really, I am NOT going to do Twitter. With all this talk of chocolate, do you prefer milk or dark? Some go better with some flavors, but generally I prefer milk. That said, if it is exotic and interesting, dark works ok. I don't like plain chocolate of either stripe, and since I'm not really a chocoholic, what appeals more is the the flavors it is mixed with. Exotic and interesting will get my attention. What of the summer update (Egyptian, Lawn Ornaments, etc.) appeals most to you? I am interested in sniffing the goat one and Laboris solis (which I am sure I misspelled) I got St. John's Eve and it is Do you have an electric stove, and would you like a bowl and tarts to use the residual heat (and for extra safety)? What an intriguing idea! (I actually HATE having an electric stove, but since I'm stuck with it, this might just make it more appealing!) More questions! ***6/24*** Are you obsessed with honey? If so, is there a particular kind you like best? Spun honey, flavored honeys, certain types of honey....etc. ***I like honey, but I don't think I really need any at the moment. What are your favorite materials? Or material things? Some people like jewelry, some like woods, some plants... ***Materials: wood, silk, velvet, linen, leather (esp. deerskin), crystal/glass Material things: hmmm....candles! books, other things are probably covered in questionnaire (ie. like bath stuff...) Is there anything you've been wanting to learn that your witch might be able to help you with? *** African hand drumming? Ie. on djembe drum which I am debating buying. I don't know that my witch could help with this though Also painting (acrylics) and drawing. I suppose what could be helpful, if my witch is so-inclined, is books, mags, etc. about this stuff... What, if anything, are you earwormed with right now? **Two songs from the Indigo Girl's latest cd, Sugar Tongue and...well, I don't know the name of the other one What scent are you wearing right now, if any? **Arcana adoration, and witch, dear, I must admit that I am highly likely to purchase some Arcana during this round. Please don't hate me! Who knits? Do you also spin and dye? What supplies, that you wouldn't buy for yourself, would you just love to have for that activity? ***no, not me. Are there any other knitted goods you might like? Lap blanket? Fingerless gloves? Arm warmers? Little knitted animals? Silk scarf? Head band? Wrist cuff? Dish cloths? ***oh! Socks of course, but also fingerless gloves. arm warmers. silk scarf. Do you like coffee? Whole bean or ground? Bold/Medium/Mild roast? ***LOVE it! Whole bean. Bold roast--darker the better. I don't really like flavored coffees except will drink vanilla/chocolate or cinnamon on occasion (and right now I am on a cinnamon kick which means putting a stick in the brew thingy) I like Indonesian (batak esp. which comes from Lake Toba which is a beautiful place I have very fond memories of) and Guatemalan esp (though the neither is that bold). I mostly drink french roast or italian roast though.

More SW questions! Anyone reading an amazing book right now? ** Not that the moment, though I have a huge stack of academic books on vodou to go through, and tey all look interesting. What socially respsonsible site would you recommend to ALL Witches? **Southern Poverty Law Center What is your favorite anime, or if you don't like that what is your favorite animated series? **.Hmmm....I don't know anime at all and don't know that I have a favorite animated series, though I like The Boondocks and Southpark Tea. How do you feel about it? **I like tea and mate and herbal teas and rooibois, so yeah, I like it! Loose tea is better. In the summer I really enjoy herbal teas. Would my future witchee like to receive steampunk style jewelry? ** That would be lovely! Salt soap bars (soap made with a large quantity of salt, like salt-scrub-in-a-bar)? **No thanks I don't even like salt scrubs, though I do like sugar scrubs. How would you feel about homemade jelly/jam from home-grown berries? Homemade Pickles? **Homemade jam would be lovely, homemade pickles probably wouldn't get eaten, though I gotta admit that pickled green beans are delicious!
-
[***6/22*** Based on Prior Carnivale act prototypes...which one are you truly excited about? **I have no thoughts on this as I haven't been looking at the prototypes, but if I do, I'll add them here. Would it bother you if you are not the first person to receive the same gift? Imagine a Witch who always sends her favourite book, for example. **Absolutely not! Great idea! Pets: What do you have, and do they need/want anything? **Three dogs: two Shibas, a German Shepherd. They can only eat treats that have no grains in them, so they are kind of hard to buy for. The German Shepherd loves squishy balls, and as he is getting older and sicker, he would probably love a ball (cheaper the better, btw). The Shibas like squeeky toys, but the GSD tends to destroy them. Does anyone play video games? What platform(s)? Are there any new or vintage games you would like? ** Not really... Twilight fans, would you be interested in any products from this Etsy seller? If so, add the items you like to your Etsy favorites and make sure your wishlist is posted somewhere for your witch. **NOT a Twilight fan. Are you in need of decanting supplies, wand caps, or other scent-related paraphernalia? **Yes, yes, yes! I'm seriously in need of empty imps but haven't bought any for awhile. ***6/20-21*** Are there any single notes (likely non bpal) that anyone is dying to have/try? **Oh, I'm interested in all sorts of SNs. Look at my list to see what I like note-wise--Any of those would be great. But right now I'm especially on the prowl for a really good strong black tea note (without citrus). Keep meaning to get the one from Conjure Oils but still haven't. I got one from From Nature With Love and it is not as strong as I had hoped. Also would like to try all sorts of resins (copal would rock my world but I haven't seen it around), pear, vanillas.... net flick or the likes gift subscriptions? A month of Netflicks vs a DvD? **I let my Netflix subscription swap, so probably not. Adorable Japanese characters? **If you could find Shiba ones or fox ones, yes. Otherwise, no. My fiance sent me an early dvd rip of Coraline that he was given (pretty sure it's not been released yet, but I sometimes have a hard time keeping up) and I was wondering if anyone would like a copy of it? **Yes! Do you collect dolls or miniatures? What kind? Do you like to get new clothes or items for them? **Not traditional ones. I collect Native American animal fetishes. Except for ball-jointed dolls, dolls kind of creep me out (and the BJD's or so expensive I'll likely never have one). Miniatures? Oh sure! Animal miniatures (esp. realistic ones) are so fun. And I'd love zombie miniatures! If you were to make a seasonal mix CD for this summer, what would you name it? ***no idea Would you like any recycle/upcycle supplies for your crafting? **yes--altoid tins, leather/fabric scraps, magazines with great pics or and fancy paper scraps, anything that can be used for collage or altered art. Is there a program you might have missed or show you love which is gone from the airwaves which might be found (or burned) for you by a Witch? **no Do you play any online games, like World of Warcraft? If so, what server do you play on, what's your character's name, etc.? **only the little sig. games like unicreatures, dragon adopters, etc. Would anyone like bath bombs or bath melts scented with one of their favorite Bpal scents? I do these for myself sometimes and find them to be quite enjoyable. **YES! Any and all bath bombs or bath melts or bubble bars should be sent my way! I would adore this! Would you like homemade cinnamon buns or sticky buns? I would love any and all home made treats, though small amounts, since I'm trying to diet. Also, things may melt if it is hot here, so that might be a concern. Any non NZ or Aus witchee that I get gets Tim Tams, OK? **I would love Tim Tams--though I don't know if this is a question.... ***6/19*** For non-US witches: is there anything from the US you'd love that you can't get where you live now? **I'm a US witch, but I'm always on the lookout for the elusive ginger altoids. So if they have those where you are, I'd love them. Or any ginger candy, for that matter. How many potential witchees have an iPod, or download MP3s? **Yes! ***6/18*** Are there any of the BPTP bath oils you adore (particularly ones that you cannot get anymore). What about the room sprays? **I love the oils, and would love to try more of them. Would like to try the Warrior Queens, and would love more L'estate. Room sprays? I'm dying for more of The Queen's Croquet Ground, but would also be interested in Sugar Skull and possibly others. How would you feel about an ultra-girlie shawl or wrap in summer-weight (lace)? **Yep! In black or plum.. What would you think of hand-dyed items? **Ha! I asked this question, and the answer is yes, though like others, I'm not much for bright traditional tye-die, but I love the subtle patterns of Low Water Immersion Dyeing. So, I hear you don't like lacy wraps! How do you feel about hand-knit socks? **Yep! That would rock my world. ***6/17*** What kinds of crafts does everyone either enjoy making or enjoy getting? Do you have a certain type of handmade item that you love to collect? Socks, boxes, jewelry, dolls etc? **I make altered art, collage and some clumsy jewelry. and hand dyed items. I would welcome any handcrafted item, but particularly jewelry or boxes or a Tarot bag...(I really need one!)

Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v1
cuervosueno replied to awesomeoverlord's topic in Limited Editions
I'm quoting this below, because I'm reviewing another decant of this from the lovely Schackjj... When I tried this, the first blast from the open imp was....whoa! What is that?! It was quite...odd...bitter? Sour? Something off-putting anyway, though also something green and familiar. I kept sniffing and sniffing and thought huh, it's geranium. That seemed so odd to me that I decided I was wrong, though then I remembered Zdravetz, which has appeared in some BPAL scents, and is, indeed, a geranium essential oil. But I had answered a post for ISO of a great nose (which I don't have, but I don't have an awful one either) so I knew I had to try harder. I put dabbed a bit of the perfume on me, where it was a blast of green familiarness over definite Dorian, took the imp and headed upstairs to my essential oil collection. what was this like? I don't have any geranium (or zdravetz) EOs, but I sniffed a lot of other green notes, and when I hit petitgrain, I thought I'd found it. It has an odd, almost overpowering scent in the bottle which more than anything else reminds me of pickles, though when it is mixed or dilute I find petitgrain to have a green slightly sour/bitter note. And it is citrus, afterall, so it also has a citrus edge. Because I noted that this blend DOES get pretty heavy on the citrus, and I understand why sirensea might read it as lime....it is a very green citrus...Lime or petitgrain...hmmm..who knows? What I don't get is any leather at all. Being rather determined to figure this out, I took the decant with me to the Colorado meet and sniff. Several people sniffed it, and none of them got leather. When I said could it be geranium, a couple of people thought it might be. As a suggestion, petitgrain got mixed results because not everyone knew what petitgrain was or smelled like. So...inconclusive. I think it is either (or both) some sort of geranium and petitgrain. And since I can't really tell, I can't tell either if it will calm down....I know that on me that green top note fades fast and leaves me with a rather citrus heavy Dorian, but I'm afraid I'm not much help other than that. -
Hmmm...guess this pretty much answers my question about the Perfumed Court too....here is where they are selling decants. I wish I hadn't supported this business, but too late now. I won't, however, buy again.

so I've been on the forum a long time, which means I've tried...well, almost everything I want to try. Occasionally things come up with notes I like (pear, pomegranite, apple, sounding familiar yet?), and I think....huh, will I love that? Probably not. Will I buy it? Nope. But I might slip it on the wish list for an imp swap, but it's a desultory thing, and I'm not at all seeking said scent, just have a mild curiosity about it. That's how it was with candy phoenix, and eventually, I got an imp. I'd read the reviews, and thought...hmmm...it doesn't sound that bad (or that good), though some very cruel past reviewers compared it to pink phoenix, a scent I like....(I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THESE COMPARISONS BTW AND WILL BE SEEKING OUT SUCH REVIEWERS FOR PUNISHMENT! )** I sniff it, and as I have another imp with a currant note, I see the immediate similarities. And yes, I also get the effervescent fizziness of this in the imp, but it smells...well, not like something I want to put on, but more like those wierd fruit candies that have this fizzy creamy stuff in the middle? Zotz or something like that (of course I may be totally making that candy up, but I really think there is something old timey candy like that).*** Gingerly, I put a tiny bit on my right wrist and OMG can we say currant candy? Stomping its way in and shouting and screaming? Yup. And SO SWEET...It's like I'm being attacked by a giant piece of hard candy...a giant piece of wet sticky hard candy that is trying to tie me up and do unspeakable things to me. And not fun things either. About three minutes later, it morphs to....candy scented plastic! It's as if the currant candy and some pomegranite candy mated and created little stompy sticky candy bits wearing rubber boots, which are now following the example of their parents and stomping me too. There was shrieking on my part, and I ran to the bathroom and tried to wash it off, first with soap, then with rubbing alchohol, followed by a metal bristle brush (well, maybe I'm exaggerating on the last one). When I came out of the bathroom, my BF laughed and said it smells just the same. (it was kind of an evil laugh too). And of course, this sucker stuck around and stuck around. It's safe to say I did not enjoy candy phoenix. ** Ok, I won't really hunt you down and punish you, but I really do love pink phoenix, and really did kind of think this might smell like it, and on me, it SO did not. ***I read this review to the BF who laughed out loud when I said zotz, and said he remembers such a candy.

There are some notes I really like in here, but there is also one of cuervo's banes: lavender. So I didn't get a bottle, and even declined to swap for a full imp. I ended up getting a sniffy from a very kind swapper, and it is a good thing that's all I got.... It's not awful...it starts out clean and powdery, and yes, kind of baby-like. But then lavender throws open the door and comes stomping in, yelling "I'M HERE!" As if I couldn't tell. What this ends up on me is lavender baby powder. Not My Thing.

This might answer a question I asked in another thread, which was about the Perfumed Court, which has decants of BPAL for sale. I know they aren't an official BPAL retailer, but it seems to me then that they really ARE NOT supposed to be selling decants of BPAL scents on a retail site.... Or is it ok? I'm guessing not, but admit I'm not sure. I'm kind of sorry I didn't think about this sooner, because I just spent some $ buying CB I Hate perfume decants from them, then realized, huh, are they even supposed to be doing this, with CB or anyone else? Then when I saw the BPAL on there I began to think probably not...And then I wished I hadn't supported their business...
