I'm anointing myself with TAL Energy and White Light, for sure. As for BPAL, possibly Green Phoenix or Priala; I like the phoenix allegory.
-
Green Phoenix for sure! I'd say F5 (green and fresh) and Cancer '07 (watery and green) if you can get your hands on them, but you're asking for GCs... Szepassony is rain, wind, and white flowers. 51 is nice and green. I got lots of melon from Ogun, but she may not like the tobacco or chili powder. She might also like Shattered: A blend of white champagne notes, grapefruit, lotus, slivered mint and crystalline aquatic blooms. It's a little more sophisticated than melon, but she might appreciate the "grown-up" scents.

Looking for scents that smell like chai
hackess replied to Vicious Mistress's topic in Recommendations
Alice smells like chai to me, but it contains rose (though I don't smell rose at all). Bakeneko is another excellent chai-like scent, but has cherry blossom and tangerine. -
Rose Red, for sure. My absolute favorite rose scent ever. Peacock Queen is a lot like Rose Red in that it's a nearly perfect pure rose, but it's darker and a little bit green. Two, Five and Seven smells like a bouquet of all kinds of roses, and yes, even green grass. She'd probably love this one. London is probably my favorite GC rose: it's dirty. Hope is sugared rose -- very girly and sweet Lucy's Kiss is another girly rose to me. It's powdery and soft. Zombi is a very heady rose, covered with dirt. If your sister likes grass, maybe she'd like dirt too? Rose Moon is barely rose at all on my skin, but it's a gorgeous complex blend with patchouli and smells kind of like a good room incense.

Tell-Tale Heart was pretty heavy on the pepper when it dried

Wow, this is just as potent as if I were sniffing out of the bottle! It's absolutely true to the Rose Red oil, a gorgeous perfect rose. It seems to lather a bit less than other BPTP soaps I've tried (especially El Dia De Reyes and MiskU), but it more than makes up for that by scenting my skin nicely without being cloying. I don't use bar soap on my body. Ever. I don't like the way it leaves my skin, and it usually makes me itch. The BPTP soaps aren't necessarily fully moisturizing, but so far they don't leave me red and scaly. Rose Red is no exception; my skin felt nice and soft after getting out of the shower.

Everything's current. Still working on getting the review threads added, and I'm tweaking the released/discontinued dates by breaking each into its own column.

Winter smells and scents, including the perfect winter forest
hackess replied to Fury's topic in Recommendations
If you want church smells, I'd recommend Cathedral and Hymn, and Haloa ("Wine grapes, myrrh, frankincense and olive leaf, and the warm scent of offertory cakes.") from the Yule LE series. -
I received a sample bit of this one as an extra in a decant circle. It may have single-handedly changed my mind about Sugar Skull. I'd tried the '05 version and was hit with sugared fruit slices, those gel-like candies that look like sliced fruit? It wasn't horribly appealing, so I passed it on. But this soap is gorgeous! It smells like brown sugar and just a hint of the fruit. It lathers up very well, but the little piece (about 1.5in x .75in x .5in) I've got has lasted longer than I expected. I've been using it at the kitchen sink to wash my hands after handling messy things for about a month now. It's got some grit to it, especially as I get down to the end of the bar, but it's not too abrasive. If this is ever available again, I'd snap up several bars.

The scent of tea - BPAL's tea note, BPAL blends like your favorite tea
hackess replied to sarada's topic in Recommendations
Green tea turns very bitter on me, Earl Grey is too strong, but I love the Hyson tea note in Gennivre. With the lemon, it turns out as a perfectly sweetened tea in summer. Bakeneko is my favorite tea blend. -
2007 Blend Bottle: The gorgeous red full rose I fell in love with in the earlier versions. Wet: An odd berry bubble-gum note is present. It's definitely a sharper rose this year. Dry: Still beautiful red roses, freshly cut, green stems and all. I got a distinct lemon note about 30 minutes into wearing it. 2007's brighter than my aged '05 blend and I'm not sure which I prefer. It's still like swimming in rose petals a la Mena Suvari in American Beauty.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
hackess replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
Black Pearl - Coconut, Florentine iris, hazelnut and opalescent white musk The Candy Butcher - Dark chocolate with a heavy cream undertone. The Winter of Our Discontent - balsam, myrrh, mandarin orange, bitter clove, artemesia (wormwood), rosewood, nutmeg, dark musk, smoke and cypress. Not a single note in common. Do you have known allergies to any of these? If nothing else, you now have a list you can take to an allergist and ask to be tested for. -
Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

GCs: Kuang Shi, The Dodo, Tweedledum. LEs: Fruit Moon, Mi-go nBrain Canister, Corazon and Diwali. That's just for scents with listed notes. Obviously the Lab should be able to steer you clear of any scents with unlisted notes. -
BPAL to represent each month, each season? Holidays, like Christmas?
hackess replied to taz19's topic in Recommendations
I wear Pumpkin blends throughout most of September and October, and then alternate them with dark rich scents with musk until it snows. Then I go to spicy warm scents containing cinnamon. Spring starts lighter scents, mostly containing tea. Summer is when I break out my two florals: rose and carnation. -
Campfires, bonfires, fireplaces, burning wood and leaves...
hackess replied to thelaurenator's topic in Recommendations
Bonfire Night was everything I wanted October and The Death of Autumn to be: slightly smoky and acrid without the horrible burning. Priala goes through all the cycles of fire: spark, flareup, embers, ash. It's really something. Fallen, however, was the strangest morph I've ever had. I don't think it's supposed to smell like fire, but it really did. -
As Bellatrix, I wore Crypt Queen.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?
hackess replied to Absinthe's topic in Recommendations
Envy is way too herbal (dark green, if that makes sense) to be close to Tulzscha, IMO. Squirting Cucumber plus Grr (Panacea) might be what you're looking for. -
I really wanted this to be coffee single note, and it's nowhere near that. In the imp, it's all boozy caramel, and applied, butterscotch with hints of coffee. It almost immediate turns to woodsy notes, and reminds me very strongly of freshly polished hardwood banisters. It's very dusty and dry. Sophisticated and intellectual. Reminds me of ancient libraries, which is great for the visual, but I'm not a fan of the arid drydown. I've reapplied twice already today, just to cover the papery notes with something sweeter. It's evocative, but I'm not in love with it like I want to be.

Snake Oil Help! Layering it, Snake Pit scents, blends with Snake Oil
hackess replied to spaceprostitute's topic in Recommendations
Snake Oil isn't among my favorites, but I don't hate it. Which is good, because I can smell it in nearly every Snake Pit scent I've tried. I have a bottle of Green Tree Viper and can justify a bottle of Saw-Scaled Viper (I think I like it more than Shub) I didn't like Asp Viper, Boomslang, or Coral Snake. The only others I could see myself trying are Habu and Temple Viper. -
Anything specifically you're looking for? I took most of Nattie's spreadsheet and tweaked it a bit for its current incarnation. Here's most of what was released/discontinued/otherwise made available in 2007. I think I'm probably missing some of the Neil Gaiman stuff from this particular list, but it should be most of what you're looking for. I won't be maintaining this sublist, but I will be updating the full spreadsheet with all the release dates for situations like yours.

Try OpenOffice? It's open source, free, and is nearly fully compatible with MS Office files (except those blasted Office 2007 extensions).

Sexy, Smutty, Seductive, Provocative... It's All in Here
hackess replied to ipb's topic in Recommendations
Smut, Crypt Queen (strange, no?), Snake Oil, and I feel like a damn Sex Goddess when wearing Magdalene even if the scent itself doesn't give off that kind of vibe. -
Yule update at the bottom, now also contains a partial list of links to review threads, in their own column, for those of you who like those.
