The amber is gorgeous and the metal notes are bright, but the fruits are just a bit much on me.

I didn't think I'd like this - I rarely like patchouli on me and I got a decant of this for my partner. But this is *beautiful.* It's warm dark amber with a bit of patchouli grounding it. It goes perfectly with Lights of Men's Lives, A Bright Flame Between Two Jacinths, and The Phoenix, Having Burst Her Shell. I think it would go well with most darker amber blends. This is strangely addictive for something that I thought was not my thing at all. I will be getting a bottle.

This starts out as melon bubblegum and then... It's pink Mr. Ibis! I don't think I need this because I already have Mr. Ibis, but...it's really pretty. And pink.

This is light, slightly sweet, and really does smell like incense ash. It stays close to the skin and unfortunately disappears quickly. It's really beautiful though and I'm tempted to get a bottle or two and reapply often. It makes my other scents smell loud and garish in comparison.

Blacker than the Raven Wings of Midnight
Myria Jean replied to Jennifurious's topic in Limited Editions
I expected the patchouli to be overwhelming, but it sits in the background elegantly while the black tea fougere and osthmanthus shimmer. There are no harsh edges or heaviness at all. -
On me this is mostly opium smoke with equal parts neroli, bergamot, and star anise brightening it up. It's lovely, but not for me I think.

The Lowdown on Incense & Resin - The Best Recommendations
Myria Jean replied to Ms. MSGirl's topic in Recommendations
It doesn't list incense, but Fettered in the Shackles of the Drug smells *exactly* like incense sticks I bought in high school. -
It's GC.

Half Elf Rogue starts out really terrible on me but dries down to warm, musky oudh with a bit of leather. I wish the leather was more prominent - I will try using more Rogue next time.
-
Venustas, Pumpkin Lace, Lights of Men's Lives, and The Cat - all lovely and warm in different ways. Also Winter Stars for a wintery outdoor sort of scent.

I'm quoting this because it's perfect I was afraid it would be too sweet, but the "doughnut" part of the smell is like really well-made doughnuts that have more spice than sugar. It's sweet without being cloying.

Floral Recs for those who usually don't like florals
Myria Jean replied to Neko's topic in Recommendations
You might like The Night-Raven (Indigo musk, wild plum, rose geranium, benzoin, night-blooming jasmine, and patchouli). I tried it today and it manages to be obviously floral, yet utterly delicious. -
On me, this is a syrupy plum with spice and a hint of rose.

This started out smelling exactly like my dad's old Carhart work coat when he'd been outside in the cold. I swore I'd never put this on again - my dad was a jerk. But now that it's dried down, it's sweeter and less harsh. There's less gunpowder, though it's still present in the background. Now it reminds me of my mom, my sister and I in the fall - exploring in the cold, making forts with sticks and dried weeds, competing over who can shoot the most pop cans. Wow. Just wow.

On me this starts out smelling like lime and dries down to all thyme all the time. It's rather clean and refreshing at those stages and more of the notes show up in between. On my partner, it is much more complex - the bergamot, thyme, and lavendar in particular work well together. On him it is clean and attractive, and masculine without being aggressive. Altogether Wilde reminds me of being outside in an herb garden in the early morning with a cup of tea.

A slightly foody vanilla sandalwood. There's a buttery note (ice cream, I suppose) that might be a bit too foody for me, but I'm not sure yet.
-
Lovely blueberry/lemon/lavendar tea. It's probably how my nose is interpreting the green note, but it actually smells like there's tea in here. I *love* tea. This is the first berry scent I've been able to wear since I started amping the sage in Bewitched.

On my partner, this smells warm, soft, and outdoorsy. On me, there is a strong SweetTart element. I guess I know whose imp this is.

WOW. This looks great. I downloaded this and am going to get it set up to be useful.

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!
Myria Jean replied to Ella LaRose's topic in Recommendations
Since you like Dorian: Jareth, Venustas, possibly Theodosius (I haven't tried it yet - going off the reviews). Maybe Tattered Lace. -
This is an elegant violet - it's sophisticated, not too heavy and not too sweet. Unfortunately the vetiver turns acrid on me after awhile. Ack.

For Dana O'Shee, I found Sudha Segara to be very similar (minus almonds, plus ginger). -
On me this dries down to a beautifully complex honey with incense and a little spice. Before drydown it tries to kill me with CINNAMON but even that is more complex than Redhots - kind of smoky, like a burnt cinnamon stick.

I have the 2014 version. On me it's almost pure powder with a bit of cocoa. I'll probably forget it in the back of my closet for a few months and see if it improves.

(I use bath oils as after-shower moisturizers) I bought this unsniffed because the notes sounded so great and so me. I must amp palmarosa or sage or *something* because this is knock-me-over strong. And for some reason smells like Old Spice. I can't deal with smelling like my dad so get thee hence.
