    White Rabbit

I immediately get black tea from this when applied wet and it dries down to a scent I can’t really place but there is a herb smell that reminds me slightly of coriander (I think Americans call this cilantro?). I think this could be a really gender neutral scent. There is something very green which I can’t fully identify – I think it’s the white pepper and clean linen, oddly enough! I also get the ginger a bit later. Half an hour later, this is evidently not for my body chemistry. It smells nice enough from afar but not up close.

    Bliss

Smells slightly boozy – too boozy to be strictly milk chocolate but not as strong as Centzon Totochtin. It doesn’t seem to want to linger very long on my skin and I smell something a tad floral in this blend. Not sure if this will work on my skin – it’s giving a very burnt smell. Damn body chemistry. I left it a while to see how it would morph but sadly it’s not at all for me.

    Snow Bunny

Very clean, zesty and fresh, like pine. Wet I get a hint of something wonderfully fruity. There may even be a hint of something minty? I generally tend to dislike minty blends so this might not be for me. I love the wet fruitiness – I just wish it would come back and stick around for longer. A few minutes later when dry on skin I get my wish! Reminds me a lot of The Snow Maiden – they have similar berries. It actually reminds me a lot of the Yule 2006 blends I’ve tried. Sadly, still too minty for my taste though it’s still morphing on me – getting more berryish. I’d hunt down a bottle if I didn’t already have The Snow Maiden. Lovely! Two or so hours later it dries down to a soapy nothingness. Still, was lovely to try!

    Dreamland

Powdery, soapy flora when wet on skin. It reminds me a lot of Dove’s Heart which I recently tested. I can’t pick out the individual florals in this – it just smells of various florals I know I like. Drying down it deepens a little but still cannot pick out any of the named florals. A nice, comforting scent and probably something to be worn for bedtime, especially as it doesn’t have so much throw as some other blends. I probably expected this to be headier because it had tuberose. About 15-20 minutes later, it warms on skin and grows headier as desired! But still manages to retain its dreamy, powdery quality.

    Bordello

Delicious, juicy berries mixed with a hint of something. It reminds me a little of The Snow Maiden except is much heavier on the berries which I love. Its lasting power isn’t as strong as I’d like – fades almost as soon as it’s applied. My skin also naturally amps up the floral which I quite like. Will definitely use up the imp and might just get a bottle.

    Carnal

This actually made my mouth water it’s so damn tantalising. Mandarin which is somehow fruitier and less tart than orange as a citrus – I therefore prefer it. It smells precisely of candied fig with mandarin. It’s extremely alluring and smells wonderfully edible. I’ve mentioned before that generally citruses don’t do well with my body chemistry but this is fantastic and absolutely the exception. It gets even sweeter on drydown too.

    Dove's Heart

Out of the vial and wet on skin I immediately get a soft, powdery jasmine. Straight after rubbing it on my skin I get a lot of lavender which should make it a very calming blend. I am wearing it for its specific purpose today and I do hope it won’t send me to sleep as BPAL lavender-based scents are often wont to do (a very good thing, mind you!)! When I sniff my arm up close I get the lavender but from afar that soft, comforting jasmine. Will report later to see if the blend does have desired effect – I had good experiences with Wolf’s Heart so have good expectations for this. I think I might detect some rose in this too? It didn’t quite have the effects I was after (I ended up crying) – except that my cat did take to guarding me overnight. Usually he sleeps at my foot but he slept by my chest and my parents told me it looked like he was actually keeping watch over me.

    Sea of Glass

A very fresh, gender neutral scent. There’s something like a hint of spice in it – not too sure, but it’s very nice. It feels like it’ll stay fresh and uplifting but once on skin it becomes a warm fragrance. The hint of spice reminds me of saffron or turmeric though. I think it could more likely be saffron. It’s an okay scent to have tried but not one of my favourites. I think I’d prefer this on a make though it is suitable on everyone. It reminds me of a spicier, warmer, unsweetened version of Aeval. There is also something slightly aquatic about this blend. About half an hour or so later I get something like rose in this blend, amidst the spice. It loses the aquatic quality and becomes a bit more floral.

    Resurrection of the Flesh

Upon initial application all I can smell is a slightly sweeter resiny composition. There is a hint of Indian spice and on drydown the angelica becomes evident but only discernible from afar – not when I sniff where I’ve applied the fragrance up close! I really like the sweetness and this may be well worth keeping but I’ll have to retest it. Might be too spicy and resinous for my tastes. This might be very nice for a guy, it’s a very warm scent.

    Jólasveinar

I smell a cold, crisp mint mixed with spiced pastries – not at all to my taste but indeed suited to winter which is when I tried this particular fragrance. I was hoping to smell more of the buttercups but sadly I don’t get any of that at all. Hopefully the spices will calm down a bit. I do also detect some dirt which adds to it being a ‘chilly’ scent. I wish I got the orchid note but I have a feeling my body chemistry doesn’t much like this. About 5-10 minutes later it does become slightly more foody and floral – therefore more agreeable to the body chemistry. I think in order for this to smell nice on me it has to be applied sparingly. It has grown into something nicer so will retest before deciding whether or not to get rid of it.
  11. Oh my god yes! Though it's called YSL Yvresse now - cannot wait for my bottle to arrive!

    Monster Bait: biggerCritters

A deceptively sweet scent; just like the Critters themselves, the perfume is fluffy, poofy, soft, snuggly, and googly! Five vanillas with Moroccan jasmine, white gardenia, and pink grapefruit. Lemony sugary delight! I'm loving the various vanillas and the jasmine mingling in the background with these various foody scents. I cannot believe how well the jasmine and citrus go together! Usually citrus doesn't work so well with my body chemistry but this blend is an exception. It reminds me of lemon sugar pancakes. It's a daytime scent, very fresh and uplifting and I think would be wonderful in summer. I don't know if a sole imp of this will be enough! Once it's settled on my skin it goes a tad powdery - I imagine that's the jasmine. The gardenia is also made fresher and more tart by the citrus which is in this case grapefruit. The composition moves from initially being a foody scent to a soft yet captivating floral. Definitely one for lovers of jasmine, which I am though according to other reviews, it may morph a fair bit on different people.

    All Souls

In the vial I smell the cakey scent first then the currants but once applied on skin I immediately get the incense – do I detect myrrh? It’s a very warm, comforting fragrance. I also think I’m detecting the faintest hint of Indian-type spices albeit very gently. I’m hoping the fruity/cake scent will come out more – same with the currants. I do like this very much and will definitely use up my imp. I think it would also smell fantastic on males because of the spices and because it’s not overly foody – though of course that is just a personal opinion. Great for winter which is when I tried it.

    Aglaea

Oh my goodness! This is a deliciously peachy fragrance – true to its description of peach wine because something definitely smells fermented. I get the hint of musk but the ambers are relatively light in this composition which I don’t mind at all as I was hoping this would be dominant with the peach. Fruity but still slightly floral. Wonderfully feminine. I look forward to trying this in the warmer weather – I tried it in winter but think it will be lovely once the weather gets warm as there is a definite summery vibe to this fragrance.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

If you like Philosophy's Pure Grace, you will love BPAL's Aeval! They smell amazingly similar, it's divine.

    Masabakes

I expected far more blackcurrant in this but it’s very strong on the myrrh. I guess I was hoping for another Lurid. The myrrh is completely overpowering and I don’t get the mimosa in this, or the blackcurrant when it’s drying on my skin. It actually smells very mentholated on me. Every now and then I think I get a whiff of the elusive blackcurrant…but not sure. Hopefully the myrrh will die down or this blend is not for me. It could be suitable for guys too, this blend. Ten minutes later, I’m definitely getting the blackcurrant note, thus making this fragrance more delightful – I think I was hasty to dismiss this so quickly.

    Eris

Delightfully light and fruity, with the almost fecal undertone of mimosa subtly balanced. The fruitiness reminds me of something I can’t remember which fragrance though. When it dries, the floral note becomes more pronounced. I broke the cap on this and sadly had to use up for the imp for fear of it spoiling. I would love another imp as I think this would be beautiful in summer though I tested it in winter.

    Lampades

Powdery, and sweet like Hollywood Babylon but I’m getting an odd dirt note. I think the odd dirt is the Mediterranean spices. I do like the lilies note but the fruity note is just a bit too fake for my nose, and a little headache-inducing.
  19. mspixieears

    Aeval

I definitely get the sage, sweet pea and the pale musk (this is the most dominant to my nose), but not the tonka. It’s a very fresh, breezy scent and I think it would be a wonderfully gender neutral scent. It’s a shame my imp of this broke and leaked as it’s really lovely. A gorgeous clean scent. Oh my gosh, I know what this reminds me of – it’s very similar to Philosophy’s Pure Grace scent which I adore so I’m definitely getting a bottle of this!

    Centzon Totochtin

This smells exactly like dark chocolate, we’re talking 85% cocoa content! It’s delicious, a true cocoa scent with rum mixed in. I don’t get the red wine and blood, however. This is one of the few scents that to my nose smells exactly the same in the vial as it does on my skin. The throw is amazing, too. I don’t know if I’d enjoy wearing this as a scent everyday but I’ll definitely use up the imp and be glad for the experience of trying it.

    Silk Road

At first, both in the vial and wet on skin, this smells a bit like The Phantom Calliope so I’m pretty sure I detect lemon verbena in this. Could there also be cassia in this? There is something warm and spicy but I’m not quite sure what it is. It’s very complex and warming. It’s definitely non-western to my nose but I can’t quite place it. It’s what I imagine a bazaar night might smell like. There are countless other wonderful things in this that I can’t fully identify but I do like it, though I do prefer The Phantom Calliope’s vibe more. Someone pointed out that the creaminess in this could be milk and I’m inclined to agree. A couple of hours later, this has faded to almost nothing which is a shame as the fragrance is so alluring. Will probably use up the imp of this.

    Sed Non Satiata

Beautiful honeyed fragrance! I detect a hint of spice (would that be the myrrh?) through it all, too. I also adore the various florals in this, the are truly captivating. The honey is most potent when the fragrance is still wet on my skin – as soon as it dries the florals come out to play more, though the sillage still suggests honey greatly. This is absolutely divine. Amidst the honey, I can smell something wonderfully boozy (ah, this would be the cognac!), and also pick up the tuberose – a floral I really love in my fragrances. I have a feeling this imp will finish very quickly and I may have to get a 5mL of this at some stage!

    Hunger

At first in the vial and at the very beginning on my skin this is smoky chocolate orange but it gets very masculine and warming. I am guessing the masculine presence is the black narcissus. This reminds me of a very smoky Haunted and is not unlike Satan and Death With Sin Intervening. I’m not really sure that I love it, it’s okay, but I can live without it. I do wish that the orange blossom and vanilla were more prominent together.

Call it a broken heart, a break-up, heartache...

I'm nursing a bit of the same thing and read a few threads and actually compiled a list of the recommendations that people gave (so please note, I take no credit for this, it's all thanks to the other wonderful members here!): Alice Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo Bliss Bloodlust Bordello Cairo Dana O'Shee Dove's Heart Dragon's Milk Gingerbread Poppet Jack Lampades Lobban Melpomene Serpent's Kiss Shattered Snake Oil Sudha Segara the Kindly Ones - from Excolo Van Van Velvet Vice Water of Notre Dame Wings of Azrael Wolf's Heart Today, I wore Wolf's Heart as I had to see the person who is responsible for said broken heart and I tell you what, I am not the usual blubbering mess I tend to be after seeing him - I'm perfectly fine and strong (you should have seen me the last time, 'twas truly pathetic). My conclusion is Wolf's Heart really helped me out today. Big time. I'm sorry for your heart and really hope some of these help. I fully intend upon trying them myself (haven't done the lot just yet!). Sorry for the long post!

    Daffodils, Narcissus, Paperwhites... and Hyacinth

Snow Maiden is fruity with berries but it does have daffodil in it too - I absolutely adore this one. You may also want to try The Darkling Thrush which is very similar to Snow Maiden minus the berries. They're both LE Yule 2006 fragrances
