what the hell? i did not expect this one to be so gorgeous. i can't pinpoint any rose note, any "misty forests" note, or any damp elder leaf. this smells VERY christmasy to me. i never would have ordered this one on my own will, although it sounded very intriguing, and the lab tossed it in as a freebie. i'm definitely going to be using up my imp if my grandma doesn't steal it from me first.

kali is a WONDERFUL choice. my #2 favorite oil.

if you can get ahold of any noir, which has been discontinued, it definitely sounds right up your alley. blood rose is an excellent recommendation. if you like rose, i'd also go for spellbound. bewitched sounds dark and sexy. OH! definitely try blood. from what i've heard, it's a keeper. other oils: scherezade-- warm, spicy, enigmatic and sexy. lust-- incensey, sexual, and extroverted. wrath-- dark and.. well, wrathful. lady macbeth-- i haven't tried this one, but it sounds so gorgeous. i've got a 5mL of it on the way.

Recs for those who can't do sweet perfumes?
diabolique replied to Fishwomon's topic in Recommendations
i disagree with miggins' suggestion of aizen-myoo, it was way sweet on me. however, the raven and zombi weren't sweet on me at all, they were actually pretty acrid. ;x skin chemistry's a funny thing, indeed. -
Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
diabolique replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
when i initially used glitter, it didn't have an effect on me. about a month and a half ago, i tried it on again and i kept sneezing. i'd especially sneeze if i smelled it straight out of the bottle. i doubt i'm allergic to it, but my sinuses definitely didn't like it. other than that, i've never gotten a rash from anything that didn't have cinnamon in it, and i only got a rash from oils with cinnamon if i put it in sensitive skin (such as my cleavage. i still have the scars, man). blood kiss had a strange reaction with my skin; a couple of minutes after i put it on, the area of my skin it came in contact with was contracting. i'm not really sure WHAT it was doing, but that seems the most appropriate word for it. then the area got really warm, and i've been in lust with it since. -
i never thought i'd appreciate a scent this floral before. the smell of jasmine has really grown on me, i'm sure, because i don't cringe with disgust every time i smell an oil with it. jasmine immediately jumps out at me, and that's all i can smell for the first few minutes. eventually, i can smell the rose and magnolia (in that order ), and this is heady and gorgeous. i don't know how often i'll wear it as it isn't particularly a "me" scent, but i still like it.

in the vial, this smells exactly like zombi to me, only it's a bit darker. it's very light and herbal, a murky green color that has a tinge of something dark brown behind it. on my skin, it sweetens up considerably, with what i assume is the wine (even though i can't smell it). this even hurts my stomach like zombi; i wish i knew the notes in this so i would be able to avoid whatever's hurting my stomach. it's all perfectly fine and well, though, because i don't think i'd wear something like this very often. all facts considered, though, i much prefer this over zombi if i had to pick between the two. i suppose vampires just have a sweetness to them that zombies will never be able to touch upon.

blood kiss was pure vetiver when i first opened up the imp. sniffing it a couple of hours later, i smell vetiver along with poppy and something sickly sweet. i think it may be the honey. the vetiver makes this seem like a very rough scent, but underneath the roughness is an underlying smooth sensuality. this smells the way sex feels. unbridled, passionate sex; this reminds me of the way i feel when i'm submissive in the bedroom, but i know full well (as does my partner) who really has control. on my skin, the vetiver retains its roughness, but a creamy, sweet cherry gradually emerges from underneath. tiny traces of wine are wafting up, but when i put my nose to the skin, i can't smell it. this is actually leaving me feeling, well, really buzzed. a minute ago, the part of my skin i put it on started to warm up a bit and the skin started tingling. it was a bizarre reaction as i've never had that happen to me. my heart's pounding now, and i'm warm everywhere. i love this!

i can't believe how gorgeous this is. this may sound dumb, but it makes me feel much more connected to the sun. it's the perfect blend of spicy and sweet. it's amazing how a scent can just feel "dry" like this. i want the rest of the stations so bad now.

this is embalming fluid with balls, guys. end of story. on my skin, it's pure, concentrated grapefruit peel. somewhat obnoxious at first, to be quite honest. if i search for it, i can spot the white tea. this never turns particularly light on me at any point, but the grapefruit slinks out of the spotlight and has a duet with the white tea. the ginger in the background provides a spicy rhythm, and-- okay, analogy overplayed. at this point, though, the scent stops morphing from the wet stage into the drydown and remains a spicy, fresh grapefruit and tea scent. if your skin chemistry is anything like mine and you enjoy smelling like tea and fruit, this is pour tu.

the wonderful, wonderful, WONDERFUL alectonox sent me an imp of this. thank you, darling! in the vial, i smell something that is decidedly "clear." it has the same vibe i get from dana o'shee, but instead of milky goodness, i get very soft, warm flowers and a hint of almond. on my skin, this is extremely light, as i knew it would be. that's what kept me from ordering this. ten minutes into the scent, i get a slightly nutty undertone, which i assume is the "coconut" feel that other people were getting from this. this is very intriguing, as every time i think i've pinned the scent down, it changes on me. it's a subtle, sweet smell, and the coconut i get from this is still very understated. overall, it smells like dana o'shee with coconut and sweet flowers, and it wafts even less than dana o'shee (then again, i did test it very lightly). i'm glad i resisted my temptation to order a bottle of this with the yule update because i can't see myself wearing this often. this is gorgeous. really, it's lovely, but it isn't unique enough for my tastes and it doesn't have very good throw. ETA: i now love this one with an unholy passion.

this review is long overdue! first sniff, this is completely mint and something citrus, which is obviously the lime. if i keep smelling it, i notice the coconut, and it provides a smooth, nutty base for the mint and lime. i noticed immediately that it was very potent and concentrated; if i sniff too hard, my nose starts burning. for the first hour on my skin, the smell is the same from the bottle. it's odd on my skin, like it wasn't made to be worn out of the house. the mint makes this extremely cooling on my skin, so i know i'll want to keep this around for the summer. after a while, though, the mint clears up (yay!) and leaves me with a very soft coconut and lime scent. eventually, i can't tell the two apart as they blend together and make some sort of artificial smell on my skin. this is the star's last stage before it completely disappears on my skin. a little goes a long way, though, so don't be tempted to slather on the first wear! i spilled some on me and the entire room smelled like a coconut drenched in mint. hee. overall, i love this, especially the stage where the mint disappears. i'll be saving most of my bottle for the warm months.

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?
diabolique replied to Nadirah's topic in Recommendations
oh, andrabell reminded me that i've also tried delirium. i had no idea it was a rose scent because it didn't smell like roses on me at all. i guess rose ISN'T amplified on my skin like i've been thinking all this time. -scratches head- now i have to order harlot again, and give blood rose a try. -
The Best BPAL scents for young girls through teenagers
diabolique replied to Dulci's topic in Recommendations
i don't recommend glitter, but maybe that's just because it was VERY potent and a bit too strong on me. it made me sneeze even though i'm not allergic to perfume. if you don't have a problem with giving your niece something with a serious kick, it should work. i third (fourth?) the suggestion of titania and the hesperides, although i didn't personally like the hesperides too much. it seems perfect for a child, though, because it's completely fruity and "young" smelling. what about siren? i haven't tried it, but it sounds light. machu picchu isn't fruity, but it has a very young and carefree mood to it. yerevan sounds like it would be a keeper, but i'm not sure about the mood of it. according to the reviews, it's very fruity. ETA: desdemona, perhaps? or even tamora or regan? dragon's milk sounds like it would be wonderful, too. -
Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?
diabolique replied to Nadirah's topic in Recommendations
i've only tried four rose scents: harlot, pride, zombi, and alice. alice and zombi didn't smell like rose on me at all. pride smelled very sharp and cheap, somewhat like air freshener. that leaves harlot. if rose scents worked on me, it would probably be my favorite. it's extremely sensual, and i think it'd be perfect for the colder months. since rose red is a limited edition, i would buy that one while you can (you only have until tonight to order it. they're being pulled around midnight, am i correct?). if you like incensey and dark scents, try spellbound. -
Recs for those who can't do sweet perfumes?
diabolique replied to Fishwomon's topic in Recommendations
i have a very short list of non-sweet BPAL oils as i tend to gravitate toward fruity and sweet scents. jack wasn't sweet on me at all, though, it was actually pretty rancid. i hesitate to tell you which ones weren't sweet because of my god awful skin chemistry, buuuut: arcana hamadryad lampades (this may be too sweet for you, but i've got a sweet tooth and barely notice things like that ) the raven scherezade voodoo baron samedi embalming fluid zombi lust cathedral ave maria gratia plena carnal debauchery harlot la petite mort queen of sheba seraglio three witches morocco (this would probably depend a lot on skin chemistry. it isn't foody or sweet on me at all) danube sybaris tintagel tarot: the world edit: reading over this list, i've noticed that i only really like 7 of the oils i listed. hahahaha. like i said, i love sweet scents. also edited to say that i've only tried about 85 BPAL scents thus far, and these are the ones i haven't found sweet at all. -
well, i assume so. my samhain had a wee pumpkin on it and my dia de los muertos had a skull. in fact, i wore dia de los muertos again today. -sniffs shirt-

i was so excited to try this when i read t3andcrumpets's review and her comparison of dia de los muertos between kali, jailbait, and harvest moon. kali is my absolute comfort scent, it's terribly gorgeous.. and so is this. so, t3andcrumpets, you're completely right. when i first smelled the vial, my expectations were absolutely exceeded. it's rich and strong with a bit of a foody undercurrent. i immediately put this on my wrists and i immediately smelled chocolate and florals. what hit me in the next few minutes was a yummy hair product smell, the same one i got from kali. the similar notes are tobacco and chocolate. oh, what a deadly combination. two of my vices, right there. the florals are unlike anything i've ever smelled. normally, i gag simply at hearing/writing the word "floral," because it evokes images of cheap faux-potpourri sprays and public bathroom cleaners, but these.. oh, god. i can't even think straight right now. it's definitely intoxicating. unfortunately, my skin eats the beautiful florals up, but everything else i get from this morphs down into a perfectly blended scent. i'm completely taken aback by the beauty of this. my only regret is that i have one bottle. pleeeaase bring this back, beth! thank you so much for this, babykitty. it means the world to me. as for those of you who don't like this and decide to pass it on to someone else, PM me. i'll be glad to take it off your hands.

i hope my incoming bottle of wanda is more purple. right now it's a champagne-esque light gold color. not pinkish, but very gaudy gold.
-
noir didn't elicit the color purple for me, so my recommendations may be way off for you. basically, anything with a strong berry smell makes me think of purple colors. bordello and lady macbeth would fall in that category.

no, it means the details of the order (what the person orders) gets sent to the lab because the credit/debit card transactions went through.

Similarities Between BPAL Scents - GC and general discussion
diabolique replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
chimera is similar in the spicy, smooth aspect that old morocco has. queen of sheba carries the same slightly african atmosphere, but it isn't what i would call smooth. -
thanks to friendthegirl, i'm wearing burial layered with zombi. zombi was a bit too light and flowery for me, but burial should give it some oomph.

tart is wonderful and decanted an imp of this for me to try! dana o'shee is very unoffensive and light in the bottle. i smell faint almonds and creamy milk. a couple of years ago, i used this facial creme wash and moisturizer called milk, and dana o'shee reminds me of the moisturizer. this doesn't have a specific color to me, but it is very clear. it isn't warm and foody on my skin, it's light, clean, and it really does remind me of something a small little faerie would eat and drink. definitely a fae nectar. it's alluring and captivating, but very faint and wispy. overall, i like it, but it isn't for me. it's too light and it turns soapy on my skin. i'm so glad i got the chance to try this.
-
i thought so too, especially when i saw kabuki mentioned. i can generally tell the difference when someone mentions a blend smelling like cherries or almonds. i tried dana o'shee for the first time today, and i definitely think it has almonds. it isn't the same type of almond that's in queen of sheba, so i agree that there has to be a difference between "sweet almond" and "bitter almond."
