    Veil

Frimp In the vial: herbal/floral Wet: same Dry: This dries down to a quiet, soft and powdery (in a good way, in my book) floral. It's hard for me to discern the different florals, because they blend and complement eachother very well, but I think I get mostly (whispy, not heavy) gardenia, ylang ylang, lilac, and lavender (which gives the blend a herbal tone, but fear not lavender-haters, it is not overpowering). For some reason Mia Farrow in the Great Gatsby pops into my mind. I really like this scent and will enjoy the imp very much! Maybe later in my BPAL experience, I will get more of this, it is really lovely, soft, pale and feminine.

    Lust

Frimp Only two notes stand out in this for me. Both in the imp, wet and dry: Red musk and patchouli. I don't get any ylang ylang, which is a shame as I love the lush tropical floral headiness of ylang ylang. But I do like this fragrance nonetheless, and will definately enjoy my imp! It is a warm, close-to-the-skin kind of scent, that manages to throw and last quite well nonetheless. Good reaction from the opposite sex it seems too

    Euterpe

In the frimp: bright, spicy floral Wet: same Dry: this is a rather soft, pretty, uplifting, sunshine kind of floral to me. Don't really smell the white musk, just these "sunny" florals dancing in a ring Don't see me reaching for this often enough though, so it's off to swaps. But it is very pretty.

    Penthus

In the Frimp: this is very strong! Wet: very strong perfumey smell, quite pleasant, I guess the strongest note to me seems to be the roseyness Dry: Strooong rose perfumey smell with soft overtone of aquatic saltiness. Nice, but don't see myself wearing this often, so it's off to swaps! Very good throw and lasting power on me though.

    Sea of Glass

Frimped! Thank you lab This is a lovely light (and yet complex) floral aquatic, with a very clean and pretty vibe. It's the kind of smell I want to wear every now and then, as a change from the more heady and heavy fragrances. This lasted overnight so (for me) that is good lasting power.

    Bastet

Frimped! Thank you Lab I wanted to like this. But alas. To me this smells simply of harshly bitter fruit - not a nice smell! I don't know how else to describe it. I wish I knew what it is that I don't like in this blend, because it smells the same to me in the bottle, so I don't think it's my chemistry. I've tried it several different places too, even on clothing. But no Great lasting power on me though, ironically.

    Rage

Frimped! Thank you Labbies Wet: Fruity Drydown: Mostly the fruitiness of the currant and mandarin, combined with a certain spicyness from the rose geranium - I assume it's that which gives it the spicyness, because on me Dragon's Blood smells like lilac (and is quite invisible in this blend) At least the geranium leaves that I have at home smell spicy-green. I don't think I can detect any amber, and I have no idea what melati smells like. I like this, and will wear it on occasion, but it's not extraordinary on me.

    Habanita by Molinard (1920's)

Thank you! Those are all very interesting suggestions that I have not tried yet. It's not really a "bright" incense feeling that I get from Habanita though, more a sort of heady, slightly powdery (in the good way, to me at least) floral, enriched with vanilla and woody resins. At this level of my scent/BPAL experience, I would connect incense notes more with Scherezade (which I also find lovely, but very different from this particular quest) Anyways, I'm definately also considering some of the Snakes, they sound simply divine If I ever do find a BPAL scent similar to Habanita I'll post here again for future reference to anyone who might be interested.

    Habanita by Molinard (1920's)

hello! Has anyone tried the fragrance Habanita by Molinard? (I received a tester of it when visiting the perfume factory in Grasse a couple of years ago, and I love it!) And if so, has anyone tried a BPAL oil that is similar in smell and (/or) "feeling"? I suppose my best bet is to look for an oil that dries down most similarly - i.e. with more or less the same heart and base-notes? I did a search and found out that two forum members made comparisons to Habanita when reviewing Torture King and Snake Charmer, but I was looking to find something that is more easily available (since those two were LE's) Habanita: Top Notes: Galbanum, Lentisque, Petitgrain (don't know these ) Heart Notes: Rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, orris, heliotrope, vetiver, muscat, cedar Base Notes: Amber, oakmoss, vanilla, musk, sandalwood, patchouli Thanks

What do bottles and labels look like?

Anyone have a pic of Lick It Again? (Based on those pictures, I am also seriously considering the entire Snake pit, even though only 5-6 of them really appeal to me...)

    Yggdrasil

Wet this is evergreen Dry this is faded evergreen and some floral... smells a bit "masculine" too. doesn't smell very lifelike and foresty on me though... unfortunately ETA: this smells disturbingly masculine on me. but not in a good way, actually. Like I was (errm) with a guy right now... ETA2: ^ wierd associations ...before this goes off to swaps, I thought I might add, that it is interesting to smell what a little bit of aging and a little bit of blending can do! The 3 month old imp is not purely evergreen (with slight herbal/floral undertone) anymore, it became more complex somehow. and when a tiny bit came onto my Dragon's Blood perfumed wrist by accident, the combination was actually quite nice! Yggdrasil gave a clear woodsy feeling to the lilac scent which I get from Dragon's Blood, which was lovely. I'm still sending it off but I'm glad it's not a total disaster in my book anymore though!!

    Miskatonic University

Wet this is hazelnut coffee, and a little bit sharp somehow ...interesting Dry this mellows down alot. it's very rich, creamy butterscotch-y/toffee-ish/caramel on me... without being too sweet though. But not sure this is my thing will definately edit if it grows on me, but this is just so different, and so unlike what I normally want to smell like in terms of perfume. Pleased with my imp though because that was the reason why I ordered it in the first place - to try something completely wierd (to me) and potentially wonderful. I have already pondered on its use in a brown-sugar coffee-grind body-scrub is that blasphemous? I imagine it would be scrumptious... ETA: I have discovered that the caramel note in this is in fact closer to a raw cane sugar smell. I was at the supermarket yesterday and there was a bag of this sugar that was ripped and the smell of it reminded me so much of Misk U!! ETA2: This gets better on me after a few months' aging. I tried some on yesterday and it was dustier, as if some of the other notes had decided to come out now. I really liked it this way, and might have to get a bottle eventually!

    Scherezade

On me, this doesn't change much: It's simple, warm, soft, creamy, incensy, sweet red musk, that gently fades after a short while. I was expecting something very different, something more spicy. But it is nice... I'm not sure it's really me though... I don't know if I'm a fan of red musk to be honest. I thought red musk smelt different, doh. Yes yes, I am in fact a newbie --> So I'm keeping all my imps including this one, until I've learnt more Edit: after a couple of hours this is still lingering, very softly. I actually quite like it now, I guess I just had to get used to the incense feel!

    Dragon's Blood

Bottle: ??? some kind of floral Wet: LILAC Dry: Subtle lilac Throw and longlasting? Not much. I got this imp to try what dragon's blood resin smells like, because frankly I had no idea, and thought it would be clever to try this before ordering scents where DB is a component. I'm glad I like lilacs because, strangely, that is what DB smells like (on me at least, but I seem to be not alone). This is nostalgic and very true to the real flower scent on me, and it makes me remember certain early summer days about a decade ago. I must admit I had expected something completely different though! No spice, and definately no fire here. It's lovely all the same - soft, feminine, but not shy.

    Dracul

This is a really cool, no-nonsense smell on me. Masculine and confident. I can imaginge wearing it to complement a white button down shirt, black tailored trousers, brogues... it's the anti-thesis of coquette, red nail polish and heels. Dry this settles down to a sweet-ish orange blossom kept in check by the fir-tree, tobacco, musk and spices notes. (I sometimes omit the different stages, because I'm still quite new at this: uneducated nosie. anyways, Dracul didn't seem to morph much either) Not much throw, so I may eventually want a bottle to slather with

    Snake Oil

This is a rich, really warm and yummy vanilla! Not too sweet, just perfect. Rubbed off on my clothes it smells great too. It's not a very complex scent on me at all, nor very spicy, but that might change with aging? Let's see... I only got an imp of this, but I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a 5 ml of it down the line ETA: ... or something from the Snake Pit ETA2: it's a very "brown" vanilla on me if that makes sense. I just wish it had more throw on me... Ok sorry but here comes another edit... playdough - I now get the infamous playdough note from this too! I don't know what to do... there's still vanilla, but underlying the vanilla I now get the nostalgic (in a bad way) smell of my four-year old hands after playing with playdough... I really hope I find a way to wear this nonetheless, or that at least the Snake Pit oils might work on me...

    Harlot

I didn't get any cinnamon either... too bad. But I love rose, so I'm ok with it I was a teeny bit worried that the cinnamon would react on my skin, because I'm quite sensitive - But no need for me to worry about that. I wonder if it would be too risky to attempt to blend a bit of essential cinnamon oil in it myself... maybe that is a bit risky if I do it directly in the bottle... maybe I could try that in a lotion though. It's not very long lasting on me.

    Eden

I like this, although it's different from what I had fantasized... I hoped it would be more lush and figgy In the bottle, it smells like a macaroon to me (which would make sense - I looked it up: a small, chewy cookie made chiefly of egg white, crushed almonds or coconut, and sugar) Wet, it's mostly the toasted coconut on me. Dry, I get alot of honey. What keeps it from going nauseously sweet on me is a faint and occasional green undernote, which I guess is the fig leaf. Since I like when there's lots of fig, I'm going to have to search elswhere for that, e.g. Strangler Fig. This is gorgeous occasionally though, and might be really lovely in an unscented body lotion for example! (it reminds me a bit of l'Occitanne's honey range right now)

    Dorian

Dorian has de-flowered me, stolen my innocence... (this is bpal virginity of which I speak) very appropriate though I suppose! Because Dorian is indeed the smell of a gorgeous, confidently sexy, yet almost androgynous youth! I wasn't impressed on first try, but I'm glad I gave it a proper 2nd chance I can detect the tea base, and the lemony feeling which I suppose could come from the fougère (i wouldn't know because i don't think i've ever smelt fougère before). On top of that is the delicate but addictive sweetness... Good thow and staying power on me. I applied it last night on my arm and it's still here today, ever so softly.
