on me this was a sweet cedary rose. or perhaps a juicy rosy cedar. at any rate, this blend showcases the beauty that comes from combining rose and cedar. good throw, long lasting. another scent that "hummmmms" in my nose.
-
on me this dried down to a blend of cedar and hay, with the other notes combining to make a floral sweetness that hummed and vibrated in the background. such a fun scent experience!

I hope you like it. Please report back if you find some patch scents that work for you. (For the good of present and future forumites as well as my own curiosity) Vixen!!!!!!!!

Initially this is beautiful licorice and the sebstverliebt jasmine being stunning and gorgeous and delicious, but there's a strong bright white soapy presence that prevents me from loving this fully. I don't hate it either, but I have to sit and think about it, waffling and teetering. After an hour, this bright white soapy settles in and the soapy goes away and I love this. I'm hoping that a bit of aging will shift the scent so it's like this sooner in the dry down, if not immediately upon application. I count this scent as a keeper either way. The licorice adds a bright royal purple element and the jasmine a sweet creaminess. My nose only knows that there's rose because my eyeballs read it on the website.

This butterfly landed in my mailbox yesterday. Bright, sharp, clean, higher in tone than I expected. It reminds me of an old-fashioned perfume. Mostly orange blossom with a very restrained base of the wood and resin. There's a hint of smokiness. This is not a sticky or fuzzy butterfly, but one that is bright and smooth and polished.
-
Mmm. This is sticky, fuzzy, cozy, snuggly resin and tobacco butterfly. The other notes added a touch of brightness and color but none of them jump out or show any interest in trying to take over. Warm chewy cozy fuzzy. Less bright and less orange than eastern comma.

Also Ian, imp, depraved But definitely Vixen. (Crowley is amazing too)

this is one of my favorites of the OLLAs. on me it's a beautiful rose/absinthe cologne. the rose is bright and rich, the carnation spicy in the background, the absinthe giving a vibrant energy, the other notes giving a deep and delicious foundation. everything about this-the balance of the different scents, the throw, the wear length is a delight. one of my favorite rose bpals. beautiful and slightly bizarre.

Flower Constancy II: An Affinity for Phlox Bath Oil
annemathematics replied to puck_nc's topic in Thermae
I'm not confident in identifying or discussing floral smells outside of my familiar rose, iris, violet, and so it's hard for me to describe this scent on its own terms. scent-presence-wise, it keeps a low and proper profile. it is gentle, sweet (not sugary or foodie!, maybe similar to honeysuckle in juicy/sweetness but of course not the same) floral that reminds me of something I would have been given as a young girl. it's very light and pure and clean, has a subtle throw and comes and goes throughout the day (I used this as an after shower moisterizer.) I like this quite a lot as a classic straightforward floral. it's not the typical weird bpal that I usually choose. but I went through this bottle very quickly. it layered beautifully with almost everything I own, even the wacky leather/fur/motor oil/ end-of-days perfumes. -
I didn't find lamia to be that coconutty. So below is an amazing coconut scent. You might be able to score a decant in the sales/swaps forums. Elegba is good. I love blood pearl. Shoggoth has coconut listed. It's a strange but brilliant scent. One of my first bottle buys.

KROENEN so good! I do love Dee, Crowley, Jareth, black rider, hatta, Ian, Adam, marquis de carabas, Leopold...but for pure sleek gleaming leather, anoint thyself with Kroenen. Eta quintessence of dust is pretty good too, beeswax heavy, but amazing.

Day burned white is supposed to smell like paint and plaster.

Driven by my obnoxiously obsessive love of the orange note in the tal attraction oil and the early reviews citing heavy orange in this, I blind bought easten comma. Oh my stars... It is amazing. Now I know I love tobacco in my nose if it's coming from a bpal. Sweet sticky almost like a resin note, this is chewy and golden and rich and divine. The orange is as wonderful as in the tal, but is blended into the mix, supporting the whole, not the star to my nose as it was in attraction. The hay seems to be contributing mostly in terms of texture, adding a touch of bright and an element of dry to ground the whole thing. I'm in love. Sweet sweet love. as enchantedmoon said above, this is hoard worthy. it does fade within about two hours. i've had this with other beloved bpals, but so far, when I've let each one sit for a few months, the throw and wear length have increased significantly. the challenge here will be to not go through the whole bottle of EC before that happens.

I'm needing to move and find an affordable home in the worst housing market ever...with a cat! i've been using this on candles and I annoint myself with it before invterviews with both building managers/landlords and potential housemates. the gorgeous orange scent (it smells like tearing open the most amazing fresh fruit on a beautiful perfect day...I LOVE this scent) is an instant mood brightener and energizer. I feel relaxed and confident and just plain happy from the moment I put it on until hours later, when the scent has faded to my nose (although running into people on the street hours later, they can smell it and I get a chance to promote bpal and tal as ways to smell fantastic). I've also had luck in terms of getting offers from places. however, these aren't always the places best for me, but I've gone to them and gotten offers which is huge. so I do think that this tal brings results, but I need to really tune in and use discernment and not just take whatever comes my way. amazing, gorgeous, effective oil. I've run through half a bottle already since june. I'll miss this one when it's gone. thank you Beth for making this!

Aubin Grandpied Bunmanchi, Childhood Playmate
annemathematics replied to MCS4096's topic in Event Exclusive Oils
I love the scents from this eccc release!! leopold and cecily get the most love from me, but on this hot and sticky day, i reached for my bottle of aubin. he's gotten bigger and bolder since he's come to live with me. (in the first few weeks, this scent was very faint and high, and my skin just ate it up.) there's a high-pitched brightness to this scent from the lavender/thyme/everlasting, a spicey warmth from the carrot seed and benzoin and a salty richness from the fur and ambergris. it's absolutely gorgeous and I can't get over how fantastic this was in late california heat. swoooon! (aubin and leopold layered together are the hottest couple I've smelled all year) -
Quintessence sounds quite lovely, but I haven't tried this one either! In U, there are definite foresty balsam notes, though. Sorry I responded to you without having the decency to look up U and see what's in it! Quintessence smells waxy, spicy, leathery...how I imagine the U would smell, never having been there. But for leather and balsam try Hatta. There's a light dusting of cinnamon, but it doesn't smell like candies, more like the actual spice. It's a gorgeous scent. Found at the century guild site. Another bpal at century guild with balsam is it doesn't matter which way you go, although here the balsam plays against woods instead of leather.
-
I've never tried U, but I wonder if quintessence of dust would be similar to it? I love love love bpal leathers. le pere fouttard, HATTA (at century guild), picture books in winter, CROWLEY, dee, adam, ian, funnel of love, jareth, KROENEN, black rider, skekna, MARQUIS DE CARABAS..all so good! I know I love others, but i can't place them now...

first applied to my wrist I get a big blast of that over the top cream note from plovers above the waves and youth's disengagement. vanilla, peach and jasmine emerge, taking turns announcing themselves and then stepping back to let other notes do the same. they eventually combine to form a lovely, liqueur-spiked floral peach that has a low throw and seems to last longer in the cool darkness of night. reapplied this morning it faded within a few hours. overall a gorgeous blend that I can see myself reaching for a lot.
-
in the bottle I smell juniper and nickle-plated steel!! gin and banjo strings!!! wet on my skin there's a touch of fruit and floral coming forward. as it dries down I can also smell the hay. If there's any apple pie it's not spiced and blends in with the fruit and florals. all of these scents coming together remind me of the smell of freshly shampooed hair. all-american, teen dream, cheerleading captain, class president, all star athlete, girl next door, 4h club member hair. (as all-american as apple pie. there's the pie!) this is a clean, crisp and very cool in tone scent.

Dramatic bpals evoke theaters and operas
annemathematics replied to Alchemist's topic in Recommendations
grand guignol: thanatos is all about the theater. to me it smells like working back stage at a theater. the grime and dust on curtains and hot lights from years of shows, the sweat and excitement and makeup on the performers. the perfumes wafting in from the audience. the mix of creative industry and hard work and glamour but behind the scenes. I adore this scent! http://www.bpal.org/topic/82113-grand-guignol-thanatos/ http://centuryguild.net/collections/scented-oils/products/grand-guignol-thanatos -
On me this is soft, light iris and musk, reminding me of The lovely kneel down, fair love and fill thyself with tears. The vanilla/ benzoin/ patch/ mimosa round out the scent; they don't stand out on their own. I clutch a fist full of hair and hold it to my nose and have a scent memory of listening to the cure's just one kiss in the late summer rain on my walkman decades ago. a very dreamy and cosy time. I like iris perfumes but I never crave or covet them. This might change right here with this here gloss. (I still have my hair shoved under my nose. For, uh, review purposes). Chorion the scent represents its inspiration amazingly well: strong, light, delicate, profound. Gorgeous!

pic please, when it's not so scabby! and yeah don't scratch!

Enterprise of the night shifts a lot, reminding me of the candy in Charlie and the chocolate factory that morphs through an entire meal. Enterprise opens with a juicy floral perfume smudged with new lipstick smell/waxy texture. That floral notes settle to the back and I can smell the puddles in the street (similar to the element of marsh in palus nebularum, sans frogs and moonrocks). After an hour what remains is smoky and dirty, like pavement after an old car has passed. This is likely the gun powder? it is similar to the asphalt in black ice. although black ice felt very sinister and this does not. It reminds me of blood popsicle in that it is an experience that is surprisingly also a pretty and wearable perfume. I wish I could describe it better! I'm excited to see how it will shift with time. Right now I like all of the stages but the throw is on the lighter side from being fresh from the mailbox.
