this isn't the dark and gritty lab patch of so below, but the warm and gently woody patch from 2016 luper, the dream. with a dusting of something bright and floral. this is dry in feel, elegant, pretty. well-mannered vs brash and showy.

BPTP (Hair Gloss, Atmo, Bath Oil) to BPAL Similarities/Reccs

cushing manor is so good! well, maybe puddin has more accidental perfume labels and can throw some bottles on etsy?? the woods and booze in that scent remind me of some of the event exclusives. warm boozy bottles: miss fanny phippany, bear in the cellar, brown thrasher (maybe dew drop inn and tammany free and easy but they are also atmos) sordid and unpleasant activities layered a carnation I love the carnation in cushing manor; bpals with carnation that I like: laura belle mcdaniel would layer nicely, but she won't cut it as a sub. season of forgiveness? nice and warmly masculine? leo 2016 is the warm desert garden of cushing manor (for the carnation and the warmth, no booze nor woods!) grooming scene is the a soft, silky and feminine scent. perhaps the version of femininity that edith rejects for herself. hudaskellir is a blast of christmas air at the manor do you have an imp oF prurience? that came up in a lab site search for carnation. -
BPTP (Hair Gloss, Atmo, Bath Oil) to BPAL Similarities/Reccs

the worm moons have the dirt note with a layer of elegant perfume (maybe a lily note??). goofballs has the dirt note with a tuberose-flower layer zombie has dirt and roses burial has dirt and flowers penny dreadful has dirt and cookies yorick also has dirt with other notes the lab's etsy has the classic graveyard dirt scent listed, which you could then layer other perfumes of your choice! Thank you for your suggestions... came here just for that. I asked BPTP and they suggested zombi, and I don't feel it is similar to the DTRH atmo spray... I purchased it and it's actually my least favorite scent. I have to checkout Graveyard and Penny Dreadful. I just got Yorick as a frimp in today's order, and I definitely recognized the dirt in it. I have to try it soon. DTRH has that beautiful blast of orange, which to me is a happy-maker. goofballs is a similar happy effect: check out the new motherhood and lilith scents to see if any have that dirt note as they will likely be happy and light hearted smell. worm moon has the dirt with flowers, but is more serious and pretty. different from zombie. the unicorn perfume, silence of the woods, has dirt in a foresty setting. you might need to creatively layer to really get the same vibe, or just love and use DTRH for the unique beauty that it is. -
this is a weird one for me. instead of a cohesive perfume, what I get is three separate "scent experiences" that are each nice but don't seem to come together. one part is deep rich syrupy resins. stunning. a second part is the eucalyptus bulb. this is the most pungent/therapeutic/medicinal eucalyptus I have ever smelled in a bpal. closer to an essential oil meets vapo medicine. I like it, but it doesn't quite mesh with the resins. the final part is a flash of something white and bright. close in pitch to the eucalyptus, but separate from it. the aldehyde? this is like a comet, streaking across the sky of the scent but disappearing so quickly. blink and miss it. themisto has very low throw and fades within an hour. honestly, I think my bottle needs time to settle and brew a little bit more. I like everything about it (except the short wearlength, which I am cockily confident will improve within a few weeks or months). I had a bit of a seasonal cold recently, and was craving a perfume, but wary that if I put on the wrong one, it would exacerbate my sinus ache and give me either a headache and/or a bad association and force me to break up with whatever scent I chose. remembering the camphoraceous quality of the eucalyptus, I reached for this scent and it was the perfect choice. themisto has a calming energy about it. beautiful and comforting, although intriguingly strange.

I love the tobacco note in antikythera mechanism, also can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke. I don't find st Clare to be ciggie smokey at all. If you like antikythera, I'd be very surprised if you had issues with st Clare. The dead leaves and tobacco from last year's weenies, the 2016 bonbon with tobacco, sloth, grievous swarm, eastern comma, eyes made strong and have with sleep all have that note. Visions of Autumn 7 and Incipient madness are also nice. Interfector, conjunction of Saturn and mars, dracul and looming spectre all have it, might run more unisex than you're into? Since my previous post, I have tried Mr prenderghast. He's the closest to ciggie smoke (there's an element of huffing the woollen coat of a smoker) but it doesn't bother me like actual ciggie smoke, which irl bothers me so much that being unscathed by the scent doppelganger is both relief and revelation. I adore Mr prenderghast actually. Such a cuddly comforting scent. BUT different tobacco note. Mat night from pretty indulgent didn't work on my skin, but it has tobacco in it and many people give it high marks. Paysage and le lethe feature tobacco and are beautifully feminine. Given your enjoyment of perversion, elegba might work for you.

for me, the musk note in the bpals managarm's bloody jaws, bub, creature feature, faunalia is extremely calming. this note is also in the TAL lionheart, but that TAL actually gave me my first and only ever panic attacks ever when I tried using it during a very stressful time in my life. go figure. haven't tried peace or wolf's heart yet. did use crucible of courage on a candle and the ritual I did helped. I adore white light but I don't know if it's a perfect fit for this situation. I find it effective for banishing the bs of others: weird and petty coworker gossip, reading the comments, etc. it is an amazing blend and absolutely worth trying. there was a small batch oil called "release" ("Use to break up old conditions and clear the way for positive change.") that isn't described as applying to your situation, but I used this when i was in a place where I was panicking and immobilized by grief and stress and found it immensely helpful and extremely comforting. again, go figure. lavender and rose essential oils are good for calming and soothing. rose especially where the heart is made heavy as your situation may be doing. bergamot is also supposed to help with anxiety. cypress helps to imbue one with strength and cedar with courage. perfume oils of course are different than EOs, but bpal blends containing these notes may help. you might be able to sniff some of these at your local natural health/beauty shop and see if they make a difference. although you may not want it as it's difficult and painful, the time where you aren't able to do things may be time you need to sit and process. having and losing a parent or anyone close to you that you've known your whole life is a big big deal. I'm so sorry you and your dad are going through this, Zeb. I hope that you find comfort and that you are able to spend more time together with him in the best health possible. hugs. big, big hugs.

Berry Scents - Blackberry, Red Berries
annemathematics replied to Red_Hot_Mama's topic in Recommendations
There are berries listed in beautiful death, a stunning scent from darkdel.com Blueberry picking is a pretty feminine lilith scent from two years back. One of last year's 13 thirteen blends has strawberry in it. Also the strawberry sufganoit yule scent. Autumn overlooked my knitting has red currents. Strawberry esp and berries have been coming up a lot this year in the lupers, the unicorns, 2016 Dragon con. Last year's lilith release had a bit of strawberry. -
from the TAL etsy, there is also, "Twilight Alchemy Lab’s Friendship oil contains essential oils, absolutes, and CO2 extracts that are organically-grown and pesticide-free, and many of the oils’ components are first distillations from small farms. This oil was charged over six lunations, in both the radiance of daylight and the quiet of moonlight. The blend includes sweet clove, lavender 40/42, fermented apple, raw sugar, honey absolute, catnip essential oil, lovage, and extract of carnations from the TAL garden." in terms of notes, this is way outside of what i usually wear (although because of this and the related bath oil I am now trying more bpal honey scents), snagged on a whim to honor existing friendships and to cultivate new ones after a number of my favorite local people moved away in a big heartbreaking wave. the smell is gorgeous and although I will use the notes to describe the scent, only the honey stands out for me as being easy to identify. it's an intriguing blend: the lavender and carnation give this a beautiful herbal quality, bright and flourishing from the lav and spicy from the carnation. honey is a note I'm sometimes wary of and don't always wear well, but this is divine. bright, sweet, strong, just a hint of muskiness but not overtaking the sweet herbal quality of the scent. the apple is lovely and natural but subtle compared to other apple notes from the lab that I've tried (quite likely because this component isn't a perfumer's addition?). I've used this on candles to bless my existing friendships and call in new one. also worn it out when I've gone into social situations when I was feeling fatigued or otherwise overwhelmed or shy. just putting on this beauty adds an instant smile on my face and a spring in my step. I have a blast and meet new people with it on. it also gets a number of compliments, and heavy questioning from a couple of my perfume-savvy friends. I love this very much for the scent and the intent. it's beautiful magic in a bottle.

I love lycanthrope's description, "This is a desert warmed carnation blossoming in a handful of sand," which I think sums up the feel of this scent quite nicely. this is a nice warm, fuzzy, spicy amber. all a big blend. I can tell that the spice is from the carnation. I can sense the herbally goodness that give this a rich and dry quality. but it is all about the blend and this is an amber, nice and fuzzy like a lion. rawr.

Different people have different taste and chemistry.read reviews of scents that you HAVE tried and see if anyone from the jl thread also reviewed that scent. Is that person's experience similar to yours or does it differ? It will help you guesstimate if your experience of jl will match theirs.

I might not be the best person to talk to, as I like scents that are feminine and masculine, including many that venture into what I call "the cologne zone." that said, I love jacob's ladder (I've tried the etsy that isn't 2008...can't remember if it's 2012 or 2010) and I find it to be a glorious gorgeous warm almost-gooey resin. galbanum can amp on me, but it doesn't with this scent. it doesn't go cologne-y on me at all. haunted is amber heavy, beautiful and feminine. palmyra is gender neutral on me, also rich and resiny the golden hour atmosphere spray from the post has a warm richness that is similar to amber, and the amber patchouli hair gloss is one of my absolute favorites. eta you also want to try and snag some hesiod's phoenix or le lugubre gondola, although they may be tough to find.

Immortally vibrant olive, black pine, and bay laurel shimmering with rivulets of fresh olibanum sap. Please know that I'm testing this fresh from the mail with five other anniversary scents. The pine and sap are reminding me of Flying Kites, a favorite bptp lilith scent. The weather today has been cold and dark and damp and grey and THIS SCENT is the perfect antidote to such dour weather. A beautiful waft of outdoors that hints slightly at the Yule season but doesn't scream Xmas. I totally play favorites and based on the initial test, this was my current favorite anniversary fresh out of the mail. after having had this sit for a bit...now when it dries down, it reminds me very much of the blends from yule 2013's miskatonic festival series. salty, wintery, outdoorsy waft of crisp air. pretty but with an underlying something else. (and my series favorite has shifted to relics of herself)

Feeling lazy - casual scents for lounging
annemathematics replied to xleighx's topic in Recommendations
it's in the post right above yours! Apparently I was too "lazy" to read the whole post! (Get it? I'm hilarious...) the sloth in that post was too lazy to drop down into its own paragraph. it was burrowing and snuggling the bonbon. bonbons are fun when one is slothing. it was also snuggling the smokestack. smokestacks can be unhealthy for slothing lungs. the exception being the bpal ones. -

this was mostly anise on me. B340 is a bit of a heartbreaker. an absolute stunner of a scent (light, feminine, beautiful, classy, anise!) but tragically it vanishes within ten minutes of putting it on. even aging didn't up the longevity, to my great dismay. I ended up using it to make a sugar scrub, which was the perfect way to enjoy the scent without getting angsty over wear length.

Clove discussion! including bitter clove and clove cigarettes
annemathematics replied to amaltheagray's topic in Recommendations
going down the lab's list of currently available clove scents, dracul, plunder, sybaris and blood kiss are the only ones I've tried that are gc and in imp form. I liked them ok but i don't reach for them to wear them. I love troll, but prefer it in the gingerbread version that came out a few years ago. clove essential oil is something I like a tiny bit of for a few moments, but after a while it starts to feel acrid and intrusive to my nose. sometimes clove in a scent can do that to me too. in other words, my love of clove is limited so take my advice with this in mind! however the following scents from bpal have clove but are heavenly and divine and I recommend them heartily, although they aren't quite close to milk and clove and honey. many lean slightly unisex to masculine. these aren't gc and some will be OOS soon! crimson looming spectre of inutterable horror GEMINI!! the wild men of jezirat al tennyn WOMEN'S SONG OF MOURNING hair gloss from the post (there is also a frankincense clove hg but I've never tried it) out of stock but worth trying if you get the chance: gacela of the dark death gingerbread troll imperfect enjoyment ketkrokur la ronde du sabbat palus putridinus the season of forgiveness wilf -

scents that I reach for when I want cozy casual are the last unicorn, stekkjarstaur, goofballs, flying kites and amber patchouli hair gloss. these don't feel simple, but they are effortless and easy to wear. -
just adding gingerbread goblin to the thread. I like it better than gb-less goblin. hinting at but not full on foodie. warm, complex, rich and sublime.

my experience with europa (which landed yesterday) is similar to the above, although I still love the scent in the end. it doesn't carry a baby powder element to me/on me. initially, lightly sweet vanilla with a shadow of creamy coffee (in the family of destructive vagina or cafe 1001) warmed by myrrh. the vetiver in this is very light! I like vetiver so I wouldn't object to the heavy grit from grievous swarm, but this vetiver is quite different. very pretty! everything merges together as it dries down. feels unisex, although not reminding me of cologne. the end result is warm, soft and dry. like her namesake, europa is very smooooooth in feel. beautiful!

the 2015 13 thirteen with the cracked glass has a pink vibe to it. battle fairy in training could go pink pink wig gloss and maybe serving fish? frau bei der selbstbefriedigung bath oil

pop and courtney, for pink bubblegum scents
-
This smells like a whisper of soft cinnamon gum breath on a summer day with lots of breezes rattling the greenery outside. I haven't smelled jailbait or Courtney, which I imagine to be all out pink gum, but this seems like a fun compliment to that idea. Light and slightly sophisticated, but still carefree and youthful.

2016 version: dunno what I can say about this except it is an amazingly delicious leather blend. I know that snake oil is in it, and I do get hints of the snake oil components, but western diamondback doesn't scream snake oil variation at all. doesn't even whisper it. instead there's just this most perfect vanilla resin magic leather (seems soft and worn and brown to my mind rather than shiny patent black). totally adore this!

The Wild Men of Jezirat Al Tennyn (2016)
annemathematics replied to LizziesLuck's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
happy happy joy joy because of my joyous chemistry, sometimes red pepper in perfume makes me think I'm wearing chutney. and sometimes clove amps in the drydown in an acrid way that must be washed off with the most thorough of soaps. neither of those things are happening here, and I'm pleased as punch that I went for a blind bottle on this beauty because it's a fantastic unisex spicy red amber blend. A little bit fiery and a little bit dry, but mostly smooooooooth as all get-out. -
I bought a partial of the previous version off of the forum, and I adore it. esp as a bedtime/evening at home scent. I was down to fumes when the new version was release (THANK YOU LAB!) I flipping adore wulric. I'm a fan of every single note in both this blend and the previous, and 99% of them work more often than not on my skin (chocolate/cocoa notes can be hit or extreme miss with my chemistry). but the sum here is above and beyond the parts. I never knew there was such a place as lavender/vanilla/cocoa/musk heaven until I met the wulfman. I can suss out each of these things here, but the combo is really its own magical beast. I know that the formula has been tweaked, but my response to sniffing both my aged bit of the previous blend and the fresh new version is nearly identical throws of joy and ecstacy.
