    Lick It One More Time

I'm working on enabling a friend of mine. When she stopped over the other day, I swiped Lick It OMT on her without telling her what it was or describing the concept. She sniffed and said immediately, 'This smells exactly like a candy cane!' It's unmistakably candy cane to my nose too, rather than the Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie scent of Tokyo Stomp. It's a bit strong at first, but fortunately it dries down into a much softer version of itself fairly quickly. I bought this one for my daughter, but will probably reach for it myself from time to time.

    The Chilling Cellar

Heh. This isn't a cellar from around here, that's for sure. It's too delicious - where is the dank mustiness, the damp and mold? If something's hiding under the stairs in this cellar, I don't blame it. Intense and dusty, dark red in its effect, Cellar has a great throw and very long wear length. The wine (unlike most wine/alcoholic notes on me) sits nicely on the top of the scent and fades gently, but not completely, as time goes on. This is very dusty and earthy and reminds me a very little bit of Dance of Death. My guess as to the notes in this one would be: patchouli, blood musk, black amber, orris, wine, and possibly dark or black musk. (I wish there was some way of knowing how close I am!) This is my surprise favorite of this year's Halloween scents.

BPAL scents appropriate for very young children?

My daughter's five, and some days she can't seem to decide whether it's more fun to tease me about my BPAL habits, or ask for some for herself. Some days it's both. Her favorites are: Enraged Bunny Musk (This is my favorite to smell on her - it's just so perfect for a small child.) Bliss Queen of Hearts Blue Moon '07 Minotaur (This surprised me, but it may be her favorite. She'd have used half my bottle by now if I'd let her.) She's just tried Beaver Moon '07 and loves it and is looking forward to smelling like a candy cane.

    Pumpkin Smash

This is exactly what I've wanted in a BPAL pumpkin scent! It definitely embodies its concept. This is primarily a carved pumpkin with a candle burning inside it. It gives only the occasional slight suggestion of sweetness. I don't get pumpkin pie or cookies at all - which is perfect because I'm not one for overly foody scents. The beer hangs around in the background almost innocuously for the most part, but every now and again it sneaks up, overpowers the pumpkin and is joined by a quick splat! of smoke and asphalt. The throw and wear length are on the light side, but this is so wonderful and so much fun it's worth slathering. (edited for clarity)

    Blue Moon 2007

... Mugwort and bay, for psychic sensitivity... Juniper, for divination through dreams... Orchid and galbanum, for complexity, wisdom and noscere... with a potent lunar-charged blend of exquisite Asian woods, moonflower, Madagascan ylang ylang, Florentine iris, Greek cypress, davana, green tea absolute, palmarosa, cucumber, Clary sage, melilot trefoils, wood aloes, and pale creeping buttercup. I'm pretty new to BPAL and never sniffed the previous version and therefore had no expectations. None of the notes in this particularly appealed to me, and frankly I didn't expect this to live up to the hype, but it did sound pleasant so I bought it anyway out of curiosity. Wow, was I wrong. Wet, it went through a (not unpleasant) slightly soapy stage on me for about five minutes. Before and after that, pure bliss. It's not what I would call an assertive scent, but it's strong and present, tickling at the very edge of my senses like a flutter of electric blue in the corner of my eye. I smell florals, but they're not the cut flowers you'd find in a store, or even the distinct scents of cultivated flowers in a garden. Instead, this is a disorganized, chaotic mass of gorgeous wildflowers growing on the bank of a small, clear stream in the middle of a forest. It's not a nighttime scent to me but one for twilight, when you can still feel the lingering energy of the sun even though the moon is already in the sky. Which is just another way of saying that I am very glad I got this before it goes live again.
