    Paris

The same thing happened here as with Viola and Queen mab; florals and spices together just don't like me. They both amp up really strongly on my skin and muck everything up, until it's like a muddy pile of icky spices and sour florals. Sadly, I am obseesed with everything French and this sounded like a perfect match...at least I still have Le Petit Mort.

    Tamora

I bought Tamora mostly for the peach scent, but the same thing happens here as it did with Fae - the peach is overripe, soggy, and completely dominated by the sandalwood and amber. In a nutshell, Tamora is warm musty peach, and just isn't as bright and sparkling enough for what I was looking for - the perfect fruity summer scent (thankfully, Aglaea satisfies that and more).

    Viola

This one smells a *lot* like Queen Mab to me. Rich purple florals and strong spices. Purple florals = good and spice = mostly good, but together they're a mess on my skin. I tend to amp up both categories, and they just duke it out until I have to wash it off. The thing is, there aren't even any spices in here, and I love love love the florals so much!

    Verdandi

Gahhhck! I wanted apple with this, but all I get is the really pungent smell of herbs and something powdery from the black amber. I am really very jealous now of the people on whom this turns into herby-apple nyumminess.

    Arkham

Wow...shadowy and unapproachable? I think not! On me, it screams SPRING! I get a very berryish smell from this, combined with soft, sweet florals. It's a bit soapy on me, but I like that here, it somehow *works.* This is my mood-lifting scent, and it layers beautifully with Posset's Christmas in New Orleans.

    Euphrosyne

Wow, this is waaayyy too sweet, even for me! It smells kind of like a typical drugstore perfume spray, in that it's pretty and unoffensive, but I like complexity with my BPAL.

    Zorya

Florals almost always work on me, and this one is no exception. It's pretty heady and has some amazing throw, as if I've been enveloped by Night itself. A very purpley, evening floral blend. Too heavy for me, but perfect for my mother.

    Svadhinaopatika

My skin amps up sandalwood like whoa, so I mostly get that from Svad, although the honey in here is super-rich and gorgeous. The jasmine, though, shows up to ruin things as usual and gives this otherwise lovely blend a rather bitter and acrid smell. Weird. I can only imagine that on someone with the right skin chemistry this would be heartbreakingly gorgeous.

    Dolce Stil Nuovo

This smells almost EXACTLY like Moon Rose on me! I love Moon Rose, so I automatically love this one, but I don't think I need a bottle of it when I have an easy GC replacement. Wonderfully light, feminine blend. Pretty is the word that comes to mind.

    Enraged Groundhog Musk

This smells like....flour. I'm not joking! It smells very yeasty, but that's not a bad thing. I mostly get cardamom (NOT cinnamon) and a faintly almondy smell. It's a fun scent, but I probably won't wear it often.

    Dark Delicacies

Ohh, I really love this. It's like Snake Charmer without the spices and more florally. It's so seamlessly blended I can't really pick out any notes, yet very evocative. When I sniff this perfume I get the image of a rich, dark, lily (even though there are no lily notes in here at all, it just accounts for the floral aspect) covered by granules of smoked sugar. It's gorgeous. It's sexy. And best of all, it's not too heady or overwhelming to wear on a daily basis.

    Debauchery

This is the first time I've tried civet in one of the blends...and well, it scares me. I'm sure this is a nice blend for those who like civet, but I don't want to smell like a wet furry animal.

    Frost Moon

This is really lovely. Chilly, sweet mint with a hint of eucalyptus. The sweetness comes from the lotus, I bet, but strangely enough, I feel like this is something I would wear more in the summer than the winter, if only I had a bottle.

    Lump of Coal

This smells exactly like Bliss, only even richer and more chocolaty. I'm in love.

    Mitzvah

This is definitely my favorite of the Inquisitions so far. I was worried it would be too foody and cloying, but it's actually a very comforting scent, but then again, I have a high tolerance for sweet things.

    The Agony of Longing

Oh, this is my absolute favorite. Not just out of the inquisitions, I think it might have jumped to the Top 10. It actually reminds me a bit of Persephone, my #1 scent EVAH, in that it's a very juicy floral. Yum.

    The Agony of Loss

Oh, this would be so beautiful if it wasn't for the damned SMOKE. Lavender, cedar, all notes I love and work on me. *Le sigh.*

    The Ecstasy of True Love

Patchouli, carnation, peach blossom, frankincense, honeysuckle, and Spanish mandarin. I agree, a very "classic" perfume, patchouli and spicy peaches. Unfortunately, I don't like patchouli, but I'm sure I'll have no problem finding this a good home!

    The Agony of Heartache

Patchouli and citrus fruit. Not that it's any fault of BPAL's, but that is the ONE combination that makes me gag and my eyes water every single time. I should know by now to stay far, far, away from this combination, but silly me, do I ever learn?

    The Ecstasy of Infatuation

Wow, this is REALLY citrussy! It's a very bright scent, very happy, but not "young," if you understand what I'm sayin'. HGM was a young scent, but this is more clean and well rounded, my third favorite out of the Inquisitions!

    Chaste Moon 2005

Mmm, this is really pretty; soft, milky florals, but not foody or floral at all. I just wish it was stronger, and I'm so happy I found a partial bottle of this.

    Strawberry Moon 2005

Yay! I'm so glad I'm not in love with this super-rare Luacy. It's a nice scent, but nothing special. A little plasticky on me.

    Le Serpent Qui Danse

If this scent could be summed up in one word, it would be "addicting." Or, "freakin' gorgeous," but now that wouldn't be one word, would it. The vanilla in this is *really* foody, but I like 'em like that, Strangely enough, though, it doesn't feel like a foody scent, because the violets in this are perfectly tender and fresh, as if they've been picked at their peak, dipped in vanilla, sprinkled with sugar and made into little violet candies. I love it. I never thought I would, but that's BPAL!

    Aglaea

Just when I thought every single peach scent in the BPAL catalogue was going to break my heart (Fae, Tamora, etc.), along comes Aglaea to mend it. This isn't warm or "fuzzy" like ripe peaches, but sweet like peach candy. I need gallons of this, so I can bathe myself in it.
  25. little_galaxie

    Snake Charmer

Damn, this is every bit as delicious as I was hoping it would smell. I get a miraculous!amber that doesn't go powdery, a wee smidgen of vanilla, spices and a pretty strong almondy note, surprisingly. It will never replace Storyville as my ultimate sexy scent, but comes pretty close all the same. I'm so lucky to have found a partial bottle of this, as well as an imp! Thank you, Dandelion and mandragora, you lovely ladies! ETA The Full Drydown: I get a lot more plum now, the spices are still prominent, and the almond note that I wasn't too thrilled about has disappeared, thankfully!
