    Uncomplicated BPALs

I super second obatala, bordello, & whip! Also, faith - sugared violets rose red - fresh out of the florist's cooler roses

Trying to find the right winter scent for me

For wintery snow scents, I recommend: The Snowglobe (sugary snow) Nuclear Winter (pine, mint, & snow) Blue Snowballs (blue raspberry candy & snow- smells horrible in the bottle, but heavenly on) Yule (evergreen & snow)

    Living

I agree with the above poster. I get sea of glass without the lemon & more floral. I was hoping for a little more lemon, but was relieved when I got no honey. I will say that this has been the absolute longest lasting bpal on my skin. It has been the only one that has lasted an entire day on me. I'm still deciding if I love it or if I'm going to trade my bottle...

    Perversion

Um this is gorgeous. I mean, REALLY a gorgeous. It's not something I ever would have picked from the description, but thanks to the lab I got a lovely little free imp. I mostly get the tobacco, but on me it mostly smells of vanilla sheesha. There's something else there that grounds the scent & I'm guessing that must be the tonka. LOVE I will be wanting a bottle & a bottle of the coconutty proto version. Why do you do this to me bpal? You make me need things I didn't even know I liked!!!

I Fell in Love with a Floating Brain v1

This was bizzare on me. It started out as fizzy orange soda, within 5 minutes it was orange soap, then 10 minutes later it was almost completely gone. It might be really nice in a burner.

    Stage Blood

So I hated this when I opened the bottle, because I was expecting chocolate for some reason. (My mistake!) I'm also not generally a fan of the labs cherry note & to a lesser extent dragons blood. With all that being said, together they friggin' sing! I love this one! It's sweet sticky spicy cherry candy.

    Aureus

I'm learning more & more inscense & Amber are really just not for me. This isn't a bad scent, but it's really cloying on me even after just applying a dab from the imp stick. I liked it better after I washed it off & it was much fainter. Now it's really nice, actually.

    Nectar Hair Gloss

This smells glorious. It's smells like I've stuck my face in a spring bouquet & have come up with a face full of yellow pollen. I'm not proficient with specific flower smells, but this smells exactly like what I imagined a scent called nectar would. On a semi-related note: this is my first hair gloss & I love what it's done for my hair.

    Red-Spotted Purple

Wet, this is super yuzu, which I love, but yuzu always disappears upon dry down on me. So sad. On dry down this is really strong of oregano (like an oregano plant, not dry spice) with a little citrus in the background. I'm glad I got a decant, but I won't be needing a bottle. After a second look at the notes, I may have been confusing the thyme for oregano.

    Lucy's Kiss

This is a velvety lush rose, which I very much like. My husband, however, told me I smell like soap.
  11. TorchedEarth

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

I have an imp of croquet that smells of cinnamon. I'm wondering if it might be mislabeled since there's no cinnamon in the scent description. I want more of it whatever it is.
  12. TorchedEarth

Apples?? Finding the right apple scent

I second poisoned apple. It's one of my favorites.
  13. TorchedEarth

    Hecate

My nose must be crazy, because in the imp & in wet application I smelled cherries. Maybe it's the sweet almond? On dry down it went completely away & I smell smokey cinnamon. I usually can't wear myrr, but this is really nice. It's subtle & powerful at the same time.
  14. TorchedEarth

    Amsterdam

I was actually excited about this one, but sadly it turned to soap on me as soon as it touched my skin. It smells like the fancy soaps that we had in the bathroom when I was a kid that we weren't allowed to use.
  15. TorchedEarth

    Lemon-Scented Sticky Bat

This is yellow snowballs with lots of added sugar. I want to eat my arm right now. Seriously, it smells like a beautifully iced lemon pound cake.
  16. TorchedEarth

    Uncle Travelling Matt

I was expecting something similar to dark chocolate, fig & tamarind, but instead ended up with lots & lots of quince! I like it... A lot. The quince is loud & a little sharp, but in a good way. After a few minutes it tones down a little bit. The rich chocolate of dcft never shows up, but it's a gorgeous blend nonetheless.

13 Nights of Halloween swap questions

2015 questions: No disappointments with or without Halloween things. Would you be interested in gently used BPAL tees going back several years and/or 80s/90s goth-industrial-generally morbid tees all in crew neck/Men's style, size M - L, all black or dark gray? Sure, but I'm more of an XL How do you feel about superheroes? Love How do you feel about Star Wars, especially extension universe comics? I don't know about the extension universe, but I love Star Wars. How extensively have you sampled the Lab's Weenie wares? Any past releases you are dying to get your hands on? Years you missed? Weenies are sometimes hit or miss for me. I LOVE the idea of them. I have a tester of smut, which I love. GC & easily found desires: TKO 51 Shanghai Zombi Oh, and I have a question: In books, movies, art, etc., are there any common horror themes (demonic possession, clowns, serial killers, spooky/evil children, zombies, insect infestations, mutilation, etc.) that you really don't want to see? I am not a fan of torture or rape. I don't like the saw movies. I love horror movies, but honestly I prefer psychological thrillers over boo gotcha or slasher flicks. Wishbones? I don't have a preference either way as long as it's not a real wishbone. I love to cook. I don't bake often. I love Halloween everything. What I look forward to for fall: Cool weather! Renaissance festival Halloween Decorating for Halloween Halloween party Soups Do you collect anything? Art Vinyl toys Indie nail polish Bpal Stickers (mostly artist made or printed, local businesses, or bands) Cacti I LOVE pistachios. Do you like Japanese/Korean snackies? If so do you prefer sweet/savory or both? Yessiree. I like both sweet & savory, but am also in the not meat camp. Do you prefer light lotions or thick butters and do you like scented or unscented? I'm good with both. I use them at different times. Do you like small crossbody bags? Yes, as long as they are minimally patterned. favorite stuff: Bob's Burgers, IT Crowd, Dr. Who, Portal, Bioshock, pugs, owls, monsters (of any sort), The Dead Kennedy's, The Buzzcocks, The Ramones, Kathleen Hannah, tattoos, torches, & vintage oddities. coffee: I'm good with ground or beans & I also have a keurig dealie, so those work too. I like all kinds of coffee except blonde. soap: I'm mostly a soap person, but I take shower gel when I travel, which is often. I'm not a huge fan of glycerine soap, but if it looks cool enough or smells amazing, then I tend to make an exception. Is there an item that you would like but you never seem to buy for yourself as other things often take preference (darn those bills)? My wish lists are filled with the things that I put in my shopping cart & move over to the wish lists instead of pushing the "checkout" button. If you listed you like books: what kind of books? What are your favorites? Do you also like the "English classics"? Are there any books or writers that you really don't like? I like most books. My favorites are those with philosophical or psychological undertones. I'm good with fiction or non-fiction. I like English classics; I own a lot of them, though. I don't prefer cheesy romances, westerns, or military/war themed books. What are your favorite musicians, favorite singers or bands? Anything or anyone you really don't like? I covered a huge range of genre's in my survey, but my favorite artists are The Dead Kennedy's, The Buzzcocks, & The Ramones. I'm not a fan of pop, country, rap, or modern radio rock. There are exceptions to most of those rules though. Tea: I like all tea except for jasmine tea. My go to is David's tea, but I'm certainly open to trying anything you have in mind Dearest swappee, have you seen the launch of this year's Yankee Candle Boney Bunch line as well as other Halloween items from there? Are there any you'd particularly like to get? The adorbs tart warmer? The taper candle holder, perhaps? I had not seen it, but wow those are stinking cute, like all of them. I am bad at remembering to burn candles, but fabulous about switching on a wax warmer. I love the wax melt/warmer related items. If you have any Chaos Theory bottles on your wishlists, would you mind getting bottles on several days of this swap? If you listed wearables - what sizes? Are your forearms skinny or bulky? Nope I'm good with multi-day bottles. I wear xl clothing & size US 6 feet. I think my forearms are fairly average. I'm definitely curvy & not skinny What kind of items would you like to get that are not available in your country? I'd appreciate anything really. Of course snacks. Yarn wearables: I'm good with yarn as long as it's not too warm. I live in a HOT city. How do you feel about home baked cookies? Is there anything that should be left out (nuts, milk, eggs, gluten, etc)? How do you feel about recieving pens? If you like them, do you have a prefered stroke size (ie: do you prefer a thick or fine stroke)? Any prefered colors (assume the sky is the limit here)? I love home baked cookies. I'm not a huge fan of oatmeal, but everything else is fair game. I can always use pens, but I'm not super particular about them. 2014 questions: Thoughts on yarn & yarns things I am completely inadequate in regards to making something with yarn, but I appreciate the wonderful things OTHER people make out of it. for bath and body products: do you have a bathtub or shower? Both Do you own a wax/oil burner? (If no, would you like one?) I have one, but the way my house is laid out I would not be opposed to another. I almost never turn mine off. would you like loose, fancy tea? I love tea in any form. I actually have a designated tea shelf in my pantry. Incense y/n? Not for me, thanks. New Question: Please briefly describe (color, style, preferred type of beads) or provide a picture of (if it is suitable), the type of necklace (if any) you would be interested in getting. If you do not like necklaces, what kinds of jewelry (if any) would you want to wear? I make jewelry for a living, so I'm almost always wearing my own necklaces. Earrings are also out for me. I tend to like understated bracelets of all kinds. What about hot chocolate/malt drinks? Hot chocolate is fun in the fall! I like cold malts (like a shake), but I've never had a hot malted drink. Sounds interesting! Would you be interested in solid perfume? What about lip balm? I love the idea of solid perfume, but unfortunately the scent doesn't stick on me. I have a gorgeous smelling Tokyo milk one, that stays for like 15 minutes. I love lip balm and am always interested. There was a lot of mention of not wearing costumes/not being allowed to at workplaces. Would you be interested in goth style or Halloween-themed(pumpkins, ghosts, etc.) normal clothes to wear instead, and what would be suitable? Yep. That all sounds fabulous. Suitable is irrelevant for me. I have no dress code to adhere to. Rose City Comic Con? These are the people that specifically strike my fancy, but I'm down for surprises & ps I love stickers... Devon Devereaux, Imps and Monsters, Every single artist at Screaming Sky, nail art deals at espionage, the gorgonist, & tinplate studios. Day of the dead? big yes! Does anything from this shop catch your eye? https://www.etsy.com/shop/DebaucherousBathBody?section_id=10332462&page=3 The scents that sound immediately intriguing are: beguiling violet, lychee bubble tea, Indian summer, spider silk, & chocolade. Any of the forms are great with me. Dear Pumpkin: Do you have aversions to any animals or insects? For example, I had a coworker who found owls creepy. I'm not a fan of cockroaches, but I'm fine with spiders, snakes, owls, and bats. Just worms & caterpillars. They're horrible, Snakes are ok. How do you feel about canned foods like jams and things along those? I'm not generally a fan. Do you have a favourite colour scheme? I like all colors. My favorite color is teal, but I'm not married to it. How do you feel about stickers (and stationery in general)? I love stickers! stickers stickers stickers... I like stationary too, but it tends to get a little less use. How do we feel about fibercrafting (knit, crochet, etc.)? wearables? crafted critters? If you would like a scarf or something similar, would you like it to be themed, like fall colors, or have a skull or other halloweenie motif/border? I live in TX, so knitted wearables get use for about 2 weeks out of the year. I love them though, & I love skulls. I friggin' love crafted critters. It's a weakness. What makes you feel pampered? I'm a bad pamperer. I don't generally take the time, but I do enjoy a nice cup of tea & smelling yummy. New Question! We've covered what critters you don't like, but what about the critters that you DO like? What are your favorite animals/creatures, real or imagined? Pretty much ALL of them. I have a special affinity towards pugs, owls, birds, & monsters (cute and/or scary). Alcoholic beverages in your goodies-- yay or nay (mostly I'm thinking minis, tho I did get a full bottle of liqueur in a Switch Witch years ago!)-- if yay, what kind? Yes please. (= I like everything other than gin. CANDY CORN--- YAY OR NAY? Big nay. Blech. does anyone especially like or want anything from cost plus/world Market? I almost always love their Halloween collections. Also, always curly whirlys, & toffee crunch cadbury cookies. does anyone need any small kitchen items or utensils? I don't have many gadgets, so I'm open to whatever you think is cool. I have eyeshadow pigments which have been decanted from--as in the powder tapped out into another container, never used directly. (I don't use very much makeup, though I love it, so I keep shadow pigments clean so I can safely share.) Would a jar of pigment handled thus bother you or are you ok with cosmetic-type stuff that has not been directly touched? I'm ok with decanted pigments, but I'm a strictly neutral girl. For those with fiber allergies, is it ok if you get, say, an ornament/amigur-whatsit yarn thing that has wool in the blend, as long as it's not something to be worn? Also, because I don't know, do people with wool allergies generally also have sensitivity to other fibers like alpaca? I have no allergies that I'm aware of, but I do live in Houston where it gets below 50 for like 2 weeks a year. And now, a new question: to sort of piggy-back onto the question about small kitchen items, do you like to bake or cook, and if yes, are there any special ingredients, spices, or decorations for baked goods (like sprinkles in seasonal shapes or those decorative picks you put on top of cupcakes, for instance) that you would like? I'm not the most fabulous baker, but will certainly experiment with anything you deem worthy to send along. Hey, Pumpkin! How do you feel about lounge pants/pajama pants? I am pro comfy pants. My studio is the bottom floor of my house, so I wear them whenever I'm not leaving my house, which is a little too often. I'm also in the big, comfy XL club. Another question! Do you have long, medium, or short hair? What kids of hair accessories do you like to use? I have longish hair. The only thing I usually put in my hair other than bobby pins is a bandana or a scarfy thing. If I were going to the mountains tomorrow, for the apple harvest, would you wanted some dehydrated apple rings??? Yes. new question from me! how do you feel about music? would you like some? if so, what would you be interested in & in what format (do you still have somewhere to play CDs, or would a flash drive be better, etc)? yes. Any format is fine. If you have an Etsy favorites list, are all of the things on the list things you'd be happy to get, or are some of them gift ideas for other people, or stuff that you've already bought and loved but don't need more of, or for any reason not something you'd want to get in this swap? It's all things I'd be happy to get. Do you like Hello Kitty? Not particularly.

    Pink Snowballs

I have the 2011 version. This reminds me of rose macarons! It's slightly sweet from the vanilla, and gives the idea of being light & fluffy.
  20. TorchedEarth

    Mi-Go Brain Canister

This turns mostly pineapple & ginger on me, two scents that really don't work with my chemistry.
  21. TorchedEarth

    Aizen-Myoo

This is one of my favorite gc scents. It's juicy, fruity, and still has subtle complexity.
  22. TorchedEarth

    Giant Vulva

In the imp, this smelled warm and sweet. It turned quite a bit more musky on my skin, and while smelling gorgeous, it was nearly immediately headache inducing. I don't get the honey at all (which is a good thing for me.) 15 minutes later I have to shove my face into my wrist to smell it. It's really nice at some stages, but I think this will be added to my swap list.
  23. TorchedEarth

    Nocturne

I get mostly violet and tuberose. On me it has the sweet playfulness that sweet pea has.
  24. TorchedEarth

    Whip

This is a sultry deep rose scent. I get hints of the leather off & on, but you can always feel it, if that makes sense.
  25. TorchedEarth

    Candy Phoenix

This smells like a fizzy hi chew candy. I love it.
