Imp: Sweet amber and sandalwood. It smells clean. Wet on Wrist: This is avery sweet floral with a bit of interesting spice (and some mint) thrown in. 15 minutes later: It's a very dark floral, still pretty sweet but the sandalwood is punching out. I really do feel like I amp sandalwood however. Verdict: I'm not a florals gal and while I don't actually find this unpleasant because it's so dark and heavy, I can't imagine wearing this at all. The sandalwood gives it a woodsy sort of scent and I'll say that I'm reminded of being out in an over grown, turning wild garden like you get at some historic state houses you can tour south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Bottom-line, this is a floral that does not remind me of a child's scent (like roses do) or an old woman's scent (like lavender and jasmine does). It's neatly complex just not for me.

2014 version! My nose and scent preference disclaimer: I have three distinct camps of scents that I love: baked goods, earthy spices, and woods/forests. My favorite scents are currently Captain Lilith and her First Mate and Eat Me for the foody category, Morocco and Scherezade for the spices, and Druid and Isle of Demons for my woodsies. Notes I dislike are vetiver, civet, leather, all of the peppers, most florals, sometimes tobacco, "wood" scents like rosewood and sandalwood because I amp them so so much and kitchen spices like sage (and by extension, frankincense because woah I get sage from that). In the bottle: Vanilla mint...it smells exactly like vanilla breath mint in the bottle. Wet on the inside of my wrists: Now the mint's become toothpaste. I'm really not fond of this at all. Fifteen minutes dry: The sugary vanilla hasn't turned plastic. In fact, it's bright and sparkly and very sweet. The mint is almost an after thought, sort of feeling like you do when you suck in a deep breath with a mint in your mouth! Thirty minute dry: One word: Refreshing. So this is what the lab's snow note smells like? As much as I didn't like this at first, I really like it now! Verdict: Keeper! Edit: so I decided to fully test today by wearing it to work. It's giving me such a headache. The mint is very strong it seems when not regulated to just one wrist. The moment I'm in the office I'll be taking a sink bath. This officially makes 0 of 8 bottles purchased a keeper for the Yules.

In the bottle: Sharp, bitter... I'm guessing this is the suet accord? I'm not actually sure what animal fat might smell like so... I can't guess. All I know is that if I was just sniffing I would have put this back. Wet on the inside of my wrists: Blah! There's no fruit notes in this so why am I getting fig and pomegranate? So weird! Fifteen minutes dry: Now is about the time that the cream comes back to bite me in the butt and curdle what should be a nice, Christmassy scent... But it isn't. The fruit has mellowed into golden syrup (duh, it's treacle!) and I get that and the same sort of smokey scent you get in Samhain....like a burning bonfire. I don't get cream at all. Thirty minute dry: More or less the same. The throw has died down. This is such a sweet, smokey scent! It's all syrup and still a little bit of fruit but in a good way. Verdict: Keeper, strangely enough, and the ONLY foody Yule that stays foody and doesn't go plastic on me. Yay!

My scent palette: I'm a foodie that doesn't tend to like the lab's vanilla scent unless there's something sugary in it. Eat Me is one of my favorite scents along with Captain Lilith (more boozy but still sweet). I am slowly finding out that I don't like woods in my scents. I love FOREST smells (like pine needles, juniper, leaves, moss and grass) but sandlewoods, rosewoods, and things like cedar or oak just don't do nice things on me. I love Magnificent Autumn, Samhain and Druid! I like spices too as long as they aren't kitchen spices (like mint and sage). Frankincense smells a little like sage so I haven't been too happy with that in my blends either. Scherezade and Sapphics are my go to spice oils. My biggest no-no are florals. Lavender and Jasmine, ylang ylang and peony run rampant. That said, carnation and sometimes rose can be quite nice on me if they're toned down. I also am not sure about my take on citrus. Lime is overwhleming (but I liked it in Lily Witch despite the leather). Bergamot is nicer. Leather and hemp tend to give me headaches. In the bottle: This really comes off as in your face chocolate. On the inside of my wrist, wet: It smells like mocha. Chocolate and coffee....so yeah, exactly what's written on the tin! Fifteen minutes later: Yuck! it's very bitter now, like plain, black, thick coffee. Don't smell the chocolate at all. Thirty minutes later: Okay, now the chocolate is back! We've got chocolate covered espresso. The cinnamon is strong now, smelling more like raw bark than the ground up spice. Verdict: This is my sixth Yule that really hasn't worked on me and in a very sad need to MAKE IT WORK I dabbed on some Snake Oil-- Now THIS is exactly what this scent needed! So I'll keep this one. It's got an Irish Coffee sort of smell when mixed with Snake Oil!

On the inside of my wrist, wet: Exciting! This smells exactly like i've dabbed on uncooked cupcake batter. I know that might sound gross but it really works for me! Fifteen minutes later: More like five minutes later....the scent is sort of...gone...? Oh noo! Just gonna dab a bit more on. Thirty minutes later: Now it just smells like that fake chocolate toothpaste they use at the dentist. It smells plastic and fake. Verdict: Another disappointing Yule for me unfortunately. I did dab a bit of Snake oil over the spot, however and it definitely has livened it up. UNFORTUNATELY it smells very much like Snake Oil and Bliss... I think this bottle will be finding a new home.

Lime is overwhleming (but I liked it in Lily Witch despite the leather). Bergamot is nicer. Leather and hemp tend to give me headaches. In the bottle: Vaguely floral and a nice mellow mint. I am intrigued. It's not what I'd go for. On the inside of my wrist, wet: Hit you in the face perfume. It's so obviously perfume...it actually reminds me of the perfume counter at a department store, whaaat? Fifteen minutes later: I don't know if it's even floral any more despite what the notes say. I'm getting sugary gin...so yeah, like sweet Christmas trees. Is this the snow note people have been talking about? If so, I love this! Thirty minutes later: Since this is only on my wrist, I can't tell if there's a lot of throw or lot. I don't really smell it while typing but I think that's because I'm testing Hard Apple Cider on the other wrist and that's overpowering it big time. I don't get vanilla or mint, just more sugary gin (if you've ever soaked white raisins in gin, THIS is the smell I'm getting). Verdict: I was so sure that this was going to be decant fodder for my friend's yule baskets! I think only one or two might get decants of this. I want to keep half a bottle for myself!

Lime is overwhleming (but I liked it in Lily Witch despite the leather). Bergamot is nicer. Leather and hemp tend to give me headaches. In the bottle: Hard apple cider. It's like I cracked open a Angry Orchard. On the inside of my wrist, wet: Apples and whiskey. Very crisp and a whole lot like Apple Cider. Fifteen minutes later: Uh oh. And here we go getting sour again. I'm pretty sure it's the buttercream. It's faint, not like Hot Buttered Rum which turned horribly sour right away. I'm hoping this mellows because even if I'm not that keen of an apple person, the whiskey in this is such an amazing note. Thirty minutes later: Success! The buttercream sourness faded away (I wish I knew why my body hates milk and cream so much) and now it's whiskey and apples. It smells more like a fall scent than a winter scent but this is going into my rotation. Right. Now. Verdict: Very sweet and very boozy. Once the dry down finished and the buttercream faded, I can see this becoming a boozy staple. It's not going to be a work scent but definitely a good out with the girls oil.

I put this on this morning without thinking to test it properly. After all, it's a foody scent! I loooove drinking hot buttered rum! Cream always goes rancid on my skin but I figured that it was just a touch and rum is one of my best friends so why worry? I was in my car when the sourness started. My train ride up to NYC was spent with my scarf on tight and my gloves kept on. I'm a foodie, I love Eat Me and Feeding the Dead and Captain Lilith and Halfling and Drink me and if it's bakery-esque I'll love it. Unfortunately, even the touch of cream in this blend had me gagging with its intense throw. I did manage to tame it once I washed as much of it as I could off in the office with Gingerbread Snakes. Still. This stuff did scary stuff to me.
-
In the bottle: Sharp, not sweet. Very boozy On the inside of my wrist, wet: I'm getting Chinese almond cookie with just a hint of the same rum note that's in Captain Lilith. It's more tangy than boozy Fifteen minutes later: That bitter almond has come out to ruin what had been a delicious scent! Oh no! I know I amp almond but sugar usually tones it down. There's not much throw at all. I have to press my nose to my wrist. Thirty minutes later: This REALLY reminds me of Halfling, if Halfling had a full pint of ale to splash on it. The almond is almost too strong which is kind of heartbreaking. I don't smell anything nutty or any of that orange rind either. It's sort of like oatmeal cookie dough. If I rest my cheek on my palm, I can smell the scent but I don't really find it all that pleasant. Verdict: With such an obviously foodie scent, I thought this was a safe bet! I'm going to keep one imp's worth in the bottle and decant the rest out to my friends for their Yule baskets.

This is why I love google docs. I can update it on my phone!
-
I did take the base spreadsheet and I have since been keeping my own. I updated columns to check off what I have tried, what I own and in what form (bottle/imp), my own reviews links, and what notes clearly don't work for me. I just updated my own spreadsheet for the Yules. I will be expecting my order tomorrow.

HUGE disclaimer: This was a frimp and I really don't like flowers. I just have to test everything! My scent palette: I'm a foodie that doesn't tend to like the lab's vanilla scent unless there's something sugary in it. Eat Me is one of my favorite scents along with Captain Lilith (more boozy but still sweet). I am slowly finding out that I don't like woods in my scents. In the bottle: Sharp jasmine, you can't mistake this smell. On my inner elbow, wet: Yick. Jasmine tends to kick anyone else's butt when it's in a blend on me and it's doing that right now. Fifteen minutes later: If this had honey and leather, it would likely have hit ALL of my no-nos. I don't smell the sage still, or the lily (which is one scent I do like in a floral). There's something acidy with the jasmine... Okay, checked the notes and that might be the lemon? It does NOT smell like the flowery lemon air fresheners you can buy, it's very, very heavy. I'll blame the musk on that. And the throw is phenomenial. Thirty minutes later: I washed this off after 15. I can still smell it and I used oil fighting dish soap. I'm going in for a shower when my other tester scent on the other elbow has finished. Verdict: I knew going in that I would not like this scent. I don't like sage or heavy florals or sandalwood. Now that I have washed this off, I get the sandalwood on my skin and actually, it's NOT UNPLEASANT. The florals have kicked down. If what's on my skin now was an atmo, I'd buy it. If you LIKE jasmine or heavy florals with a lot of throw, I really do feel like this is the blend for you.

The Land of Plenty, also called Luilekkerland – the Lazy, Luscious Land: milk and honey, sweet cakes and wine. My scent palette: I'm a foodie that doesn't tend to like the lab's vanilla scent unless there's something sugary in it. Eat Me is one of my favorite scents along with Captain Lilith (more boozy but still sweet). I am slowly finding out that I don't like woods in my scents. In the bottle: Honey and cake. I'm a little worried. Honey goes sour on me. On my inner elbow, wet: Uh oh, I smell the wine now. Wine is a note that never plays nice even though I love it at first. I'm getting a white wine and vanilla cake and it smells yummy at the moment! Fifteen minutes later: Between the wine and the honey, this blend is going sour on me. I love the cake notes in Eat Me and in Feeding the Dead (though feeding the dead disappears on me) but honey and wine together...I knew this would be trouble. Thirty minutes later: You know, this REALLY mellowed out! It's still cakey-like and still sweet but the wine has made it a more adult scent where I find Eat Me to be a playful child's scent. Verdict: I'm glad that I bought the imp but I wouldn't grab a bottle of this over another Eat Me. I'm not sure if it will get too much play in my rotation either because it does for me what Eat Me does but not any better. If you like the lab's wine notes and want a more adult foodie scent, definitely get this one because it's got a nice boozy afterglow. I'll stick my Captain Lilith for my sweet booze though!

Lime is overwhleming (but I liked it in Lily Witch despite the leather). Bergamot is nicer. Leather and hemp tend to give me headaches. In the bottle: Pine-Sol almost exactly. It hurts my nose On my wrist, wet: Pine-Sol still, but mellowed Fifteen minutes later: Still the pine-sol scent but I'm starting to dig it. I think it's the white musk mellowing it out. It smells so earthy and has a much better throw than druid. This is not a wintery blend, however. It's more like the start of fall or tail end of summer. It feels "warm" and "green" to me and I try not to use words like that in my descriptions but this one really just feel like I would put it on for an early fall picnic. Thirty minutes later: This has just replaced druid for my favorite "in the woods" sort of scent. The throw is miraculous. Because this is pine AND juniper (not the wood itself but the leaves and the sap) it has a very foresty feel. Isle of demons feels similar but IoD is sort of more marshy and earthy. This one is more treetops. Oh I love this, this might end up beating out druid for a bottle when I finally can afford a GC scent! Verdict: Mine mine, all mine forever (or at least when I'm not feeling like wearing something sweet)

Like I just cut into one. On my wrist, wet: Still just lime! It's so strong Fifteen minutes later: There's suppose to be lilac in this but honestly, this pretty much just smells like I sprayed my arm with lime. I'm detecting nothing else at all. Thirty minutes later: Okay, went back to scan the notes. White musk (my second fav musk), lime, lilac (oh no flowers!!!), citron. Well that explains the citrus all the time everywhere. This smells like something I should be wearing in summer so it feels a little off at the moment. I do not get lilac at all. Even a little. It's all citrus, but at least the lime calmed down into more of a margarita zest. Verdict: I am keeping this frimp for when it gets to be warm again. I bet a little coconut hair gloss and some whitechapel will make me feel like I'm on a cruise!
-
This was another frimp...but I can leave no frimp untested! My scent palette: I'm a foodie that doesn't tend to like the lab's vanilla scent unless there's something sugary in it. Eat Me is one of my favorite scents along with Captain Lilith (more boozy but still sweet). I am slowly finding out that I don't like woods in my scents. Lime is overwhleming (but I liked it in Lily Witch despite the leather). Bergamot is nicer. Leather and hemp tend to give me headaches. In the bottle: It actually reminds me of Druid. If I was a puppy my tail would be wagging! It's very much middle of the foresty. On my wrist, wet: AH WHAT NO! Okay, Druid does this to me too, the pine is SO strong it hurts. I just have to wait for the dry down and it's bliss. So. Waiting. I'm looking at the notes now in the mean time and I'm guessing this is the spruce. Fifteen minutes later: Um... I don't know... I don't think this appropriate to write but I'm getting a LOT of manure smells from this. The first whiff smells a lot like...uh...that...and then it sort of mellows in SPRUCE (okay, mellows isn't right...it morphs? Because man, this is strong!) Thirty minutes later: I'm going to say that the manure smell is actually just grapefruitish...sort of like not ripe and therefore REALLY unappetizing grapefruit? I don't actually like grapefruit so maybe just grapefruit would be all right. Man, I sound so harsh. I've been typing up my sales post as I've been waiting on this and honestly I'm SO confused by it. It's not horrible enough to WASH OFF RIGHT NOW but it's sort of morbidly horrible... Oh gosh this one is so mean! I just can't describe it any other way! Edit: It's been about 45 minutes and I was just posting these things before I went to wash my last two reviews off. I have to say that the manure smell is gone. It smells like Christmas trees now, like the little christmas tree air freshener I'll hang inside of our fake tree for fake realism. It's actually really lovely now but...I can't wait almost an hour not to smell like death. Verdict: No, big no. I don't want to smell like I've been rolling around in a freshly planted garden. I'll stick to foodie smells! I'm actually a little heart broken. I've been trying to find a Druid-like scent that has more throw because after the wet phase of Druid I just am SO in love with it... And of course there aren't notes for druid, just a lot of guessing.

Let me start off by saying I'm sort of against florals. My scent palette: I'm a foodie that doesn't tend to like the lab's vanilla scent unless there's something sugary in it. Eat Me is one of my favorite scents along with Captain Lilith (more boozy but still sweet). I am slowly finding out that I don't like 'wood's in my scents. I love FOREST smells (like pine needles, juniper, leaves, moss and grass) but sandlewoods, rosewoods, and things like cedar or oak woods just don't do nice things on me. I love Magnificent Autumn, Samhain and Druid! I like spices too as long as they aren't kitchen spices (like mint and sage). Frankincense smells a little like sage so I haven't been too happy with that in my blends either. Scherezade and Sapphics are my go to spice oils but I generally layer them with something sweet. In the bottle: It kinda smells like that organic, non toxic cleaner we use at work that never really cleans anything. On my wrist, wet: It's sort of acdic. I didn't know that floral scents do that. I guess it just sort of smells like lemony cleaner. Now I happen to like how lily smells on the flower itself but I don't know what's making this one smell like cleanser. Just looked it up. Elemi is lemony so that's it. Fifteen minutes later: Okay, we're not getting to the 30 minute review, washing this off. It's gotten very harsh. Like I'm being stabbed by fake flowers. Thirty minutes later: NA Verdict: It was a frimp. I knew going in that I don't like florals SO this wasn't a big surprise for me.

Boo was my second hair gloss after a disaster of a chaos theory that I still can't get rid of for trade (probably because "floral" tells no one anything and I get all choked when I spray it to do more tests) I've since gotten an Eat Me that I traded for Smutty Goblin that broke and leaked everywhere in transit... So I think my hair gloss journey is cursed! And probably by Boo! It's just so good, sweet without being cloying. It goes with my favorite oils (Eat Me, scherezade, Captain Lilith, Gingerbread snakes). Who doesn't like to turn their head and get a nose full of sugar?

Who do I email with questions? BPAL/BPTP contact info
Jeni Mullen replied to kebechet's topic in BPAL FAQs
I used their contact page to contact them directly and heard back in a day. It was about adding a bottle to my order. I don't know if that helps. I would just use the web form. Ps that was just this Monday. So I know they do see the stuff that comes in on that form. -
My scent palette: I'm a foodie that doesn't tend to like the lab's vanilla scent unless there's something sugary in it. Eat Me is one of my favorite scents along with Captain Lilith (more boozy but still sweet AND technically it's BPTP but whateva). I love FOREST smells (like pine needles, juniper, leaves, moss and grass) but sandlewood, rosewood, and things like cedar or oak just don't do nice things on me. I love Magnificent Autumn and Druid on the dry down but they do nasty things to me when wet. I wear Druid regularly so obviously I can get passed the wet phase. Lime is overwhelming (but I liked it in Lily Witch right up until the leather note hit). As an aside, leather, vetiver and hemp tend to give me headaches. I have not found a single scent I like with those notes in. In the bottle: Coconut, but in a sunscreen sort of way. Hm. On my wrist, wet: Yay there's the rum! This reminds me so much of Captain Lilith that I'm really happy I found a sort of GC equivalent! Fifteen minutes later: Mutes itself way down. The scent of tobacco is finally there. Thirty minutes later: I'm still not sure if I like the smell of tobacco. It doesn't give me a headache and it reminds me a lot of my grandfather and my mom. The sunscreen is gone and you're left with a definite beachy, pina colada sort of scent that isn't overly boozy or sweet. It's very different from Captain Lilith after all! Verdict: I need a bottle of this. Underline the need.

Lime is overwhelming (but I liked it in Lily Witch right up until the leather note hit). As an aside, leather, vetiver and hemp tend to give me headaches. I have not found a single scent I like those notes in. In the bottle: It smells like cherry almond! I didn't even see cherry in the description! On my wrist, wet: Still cherries and almonds and it's beautiful. What's causing the cherries? Fifteen minutes later: Hm. There's under all of that. Something sort of FLAT. I think that's the honey? I miss my wet scent. Thirty minutes later: I'm not sure what that afterthought scent is still. It feels musty in my nose, though honestly, the rest of it smells so good. I think the honey is souring it. Maybe it's just a very bitter almond pulling up the rear? Verdict: I really liked it up until about the 15 minute mark. Still not sure where the scent is coming from that I don't like so I'm hoping it's just a wierd reaction to some lotion I had on earlier. Will be testing again before I decide if this is a swap or a keep.

In the bottle: OOoh yes! Amber! I also smell the carnation and while I'm not a floral girl, carnation plays well. On my wrist, wet: The florals are stronger. I don't know what myrtle smells like on it's own so I don't know if it's doing that or if it's the carnation. Fifteen minutes later: So soft! The florals have moved down below the ambers. The apple is only there in spirit I fear. Thirty minutes later: Wrong! Here;s the apple! Apple and ambers are playing well on my skin. I'm really pleased! I never would have ordered this for myself. Verdict: This was a lab frimp. I'm not sure if it will be a bottle but Alice use to be my one "floral." Now? Now I think it's spot in the box is being taken over by Brisingamen!

I can't describe it, sorry! On my wrist, wet: Okay, very vanilla but the amber is there too and I think that the amber is making the vanilla behave! Happiness! Fifteen minutes later: Oh boo, the pine has come out to play and now it's taking over. The vanilla is still there but it's on it's way to going sour, like vanilla sometimes does in these blends for me. Thirty minutes later: All pine with maybe sweet sap under it. Time to wash it off. Verdict: I was hoping that the amber and the juniper would be stronger. Definitely not keeping this one.

Scent disclaimers: I'm a foodie that doesn't like the melty ice cream note. Wine, honey and sometimes plain vanilla go wrong on me or smell sour. I like sugary smells! My favorite foodie scents are Halfling and Eat Me (and gingerbread snakes for the season). I also like woodsy (but not wood) scents. Druid and Isle of Demons put me in my happy place. The smell of forests and leaves and grass is great, but I don't like kitchen spices like sage or minty herbs. I'm also extremely found of spicy scents like Scherezade and Morocco (the latter I mix with Snake Oil because it doesn't tend to stay with me). Most things floral or aquatic just don't work on me. In the bottle: Okay! Irish cream! It smells so much like Baileys I could die happy. On my wrists: Strong coffee and Baileys. I smell what I assume is the books or polished wood under it but it's all coffee all the time and I love it! After 15 minutes: Oh, sad. Now it's sandalwood, my old nemesis. The coffee is still there but it smells less like a coffee shop and more like a stained coffee shop table. It's gone stale and old which...honestly? That's what it's suppose to do. Old books, coffee and oak halls. Unfortunately, the smell of wood (but not forest!) goes poorly with my skin type. I'll be gifting one imp to a friend.

In the bottle: Oh god, this is awful! It's so strong I actually can't figure out what it is at all But let's carry on! On my skin: ooh, still strong but you can smell the cola. It's sugary sweet and dark. Dry down: Hmmm. Okay, here comes the cinnamon. It dries down nice and soft, not really floral but definitely herby. I dislike kitchen spices so I'd guess this is really more clove/cinnamon but I can't tell! My nose is terrible! Verdict: I don't hate it but this imp won't go into rotation. It's still pretty pleasant if you really like sodas!
