    Crossroads

The forks of the road: an in-between place, sacred and tangibly magickal in innumerable cultures and faiths. This scent is dark with mystery, taut with power. A chill twilit garden of blooms over dry earth and mosses, heavily laden with incense and offertory herbs. Well balanced dirt and flowers, at all stages. I get very little incense and herbs. I'm not a huge fan, just because I don't like smelling of dirt.

    10ml bottles...Where did they go?

Sadly I doubt the lab will be able to offer 10mls again. They discontinued them because there wasn't enough demand, and also because as a result of the different size they had to use a different and more time consuming process to fill the bottles (they may have had to hand fill them, but I'm not sure about that). It just doesn't make sense for the lab to overcomplicate things like that. Plus, they'd have to get a new supply of bottles, which is another headache again (ordering, quality control, maintaining inventory...)

    The Illustrated Woman

I wanted to love her, but all I get is a very sharp and aggressive pine dominating a well blended mix of other notes, none of which I can pinpoint (even knowing the notes in it). I'm going to hope it improves with age, but I fear not.

    Ashlultum

The florals totally take over this scent, suppressing all the other notes and leaving me smelling like soap. This is ruined by skin chemistry, sadly. Throw is good and I think wear length would also be good, although I washed it off after a few hours. Still, it was as strong as when I first applied it when I did.

    Tiki King

Tiki King reminds me quite a lot of Tarot: The Star, but with a little more wood.

What do bottles and labels look like?

Yes! I especially have problems with sets--For those labels with art that I particularly love, I want the bottles just so I have the full set of the art. And the latest 'ween labels are SO freakin' amazing...I'm in trouble. Not to mention my excitement for the art on the Lilith Victoria scents! Of course...the perfumes are good too The label art is a big reason I want to get the whole Snake Pit.

    Brown Jenkin

This is ok when first on - pleasant, perhaps a little aggressive. But when it's dry, it's OMG love. It's not too complex, but not one dimensional; it's a soft, warm, slightly spicy, comforting scent not dominated by any one note. The sandalwood and musk are the foundations, with the coconut (which I picked out by myself, a pleasing sign my nose is improving) and incense rounding it out and making it more interesting. I don't pick up on the orris root, but I'm not that familiar with it. I'll see how much I reach for my imp, but I'm seriously considering a bottle. Throw is medium strong when wet, soft to medium when dry. Wear length is good.

    Are bpal blends all-natural?

BPAL is fun. I can understand their charm and they deserve their success. But even a mediocre fragrance takes at least weeks until you get it right. Endless adjustments by people who have studied organic chemistry and perfumery for many years. Oh, for christ's sake. Beth does spend a long time working on her oils. She's been working on an upcoming Cabaret series since Spring 2003 and it's still not live.

    Silk Road

A clean, soft, light scent. It reminds me a little of a cake, but not in any kind of foody way. I like it, but I'm not sure I'd ever reach for it. Pleasant, well blended, dry but not incredibly so. I find the cinnamon well blended and had to specifically look for it to find it, but it is there. ETA: It might make a nice room scent, I think.

    The Premature Burial

Original release: Predominantly dirt in the vial and wet on the skin. It stays mostly dirt, but gradually hints of flowers peak out and gradually become more perceptible, and it almost smells a little perfume-y (in a good way) mixed in with the dirt. I may be getting a little teakwood but I'm not too familiar with the note, and I can't comment on the cypress at all. Wet, it's too overwhelmingly dirt for my tastes; and while I like the smell of it dry it's not very me. I suspected as much, but it's cool to be able to try it.

    Are bpal blends all-natural?

They are 100% natural - I know because awhile back the lab put one bottle of a prototype with a synthetic ingredient up on ebay, and there was a lot of discussion about how it was the first one, and Beth said they were experimenting with them but not sure they'd ever use them I used to say "essential oils" at the post office to get around the "perfume = alcohol" thing, but then they told me that essential oils are banned from Australia Post because they're supposedly flammable. Now I say "bath oil samples", and if questioned further, I tell them it's synthetic fragrance oil. I know they aren't really synthetic, but it gets by. talula_fairie: apparently they are 100% natural. It doesn't seem to be mentioned on the Lab site, but it's been discussed on this forum quite a bit. There is some recent discussion in the "Allergies and other reactions to oils" thread. Wow, really? I'll have to start marking them as cosmetic samples, then.

    10ml bottles...Where did they go?

I had a 10ml of Snake Oil and I cannot find it. I am devastated. It was glorious and is probably irreplaceable. Edit: I found it today! It smells so good too.

    CCNow or PayPal

No, absolutely not. 'Shipped' means the lab had got the details of your order from CCNow. Your order will not have been posted from the lab until you receive a click and ship from USPS.

    Golden Priapus

On me, this is mostly pine, rounded out slightly by the other notes. It's not quite me, but I'd love to smell it on a guy.

    Blue Fire

A bright, fizzy scent. Somewhere between fruity and foody. It's a little too sweet for me, but captures the concept well. The lemongrass rounds things out a little and the blueberry is definitely the main player. I don't get much booze. Medium throw.

    Monster Bait: Underpants

This is an ever so slightly vanilla-y sweet tinged sandalwood for me, wet and on dry down. Where is the rest of my lovely vanilla-y goodness? I smell like a tree. A very little tree, too, since there's practically no throw. I was so sure I'd love this - I'll have to try again later, in hopes of better results.

    Delirium

This is a scent I've had on my wishlist since almost the start of my BPAL career, before I gave up on rose. Somehow it stuck through my periodic wishlist clearing and I got frimped it, and tried it on without remembering the notes. Madness indeed! I couldn't make head or tails of this in the vial and then wet on my skin. Looking up the notes helped - it's a sort of lemon/fruity candy scent. Then the rose starts to come out and completely tramples the apple and lemon. The most bizarre thing about it is that this is a rose that works on me! Not too powdery and the closest I have yet come to the smell of fresh roses. I don't know how often I'll reach for it - I'd prefer something not so single note - but I'll hold onto it. Spoke too soon - this was a long hold out, but it too went to powder. Rose and I are not meant to be.

    Snow, Glass, Apples

In the bottle and wet on my skin, this is a crisp sliced wet apple, slightly twisted. It is similar to the other BPAL apple notes I've tried. After awhile, the glass note goes a little fuzzy on my skin, which I expected. (I have huge problems with ozone (it usually goes hairspray-y on me), and it was a little similar to that, only to a much smaller degree. If ozone was a campfire, this would be a birthday candle. A birthday candle dripping wax on my icing.) I washed it off at that stage (I was going out) so I don't know if time would have fixed that, but I'm happy to keep it just based on its smell wet and wear it in my scent locket. I'll try it again later and see how it goes out of curiosity though. I don't get any mint or distinct florals, although I'm not a huge floral fan so I might be missing them. As for the book (I'm guessing we can review it here?), it's pretty awesome too. It's a little over 21cm by a little under 14 cm with a thick glossy cardboard cover and glossy pages, so it's lovely to hold. It is a short story but there's quite a lot of text and it's 25 pages long. The illustrations (there are also internal ones, not just the cover, just in case anyone was confused) are gorgeous and suit the story beautifully. I had read the story before but was delighted to re-read it. It's full of lovely imagery and is delightfully paced - I love the ending. It's definitely somewhat gruesome. Each book is hand numbered (this one is 372) and the lab's triple dagger image is printed on the back cover. Very cool!

    International Shipping Info+Questions

Possibly we could compile our orders in the ccnow cart and use the product codes that come up?

    Beaver Moon 2005

A very sweet, slightly strawberry-y cupcake scent. Definitely smells like cupcakes and strawberry cheesecake. It doesn't change much on my skin from the bottle until about half an hour later, when although the throw is still cake-y when I sniff it up close it smells plastic-y. I'm not too sad because I find it a little too sweet, almost aggressively so. Not my personal scent preference but if you want to smell like sweet cupcakes and cheesecake and don't have wonky skin chemistry, Beaver Moon 2005 is for you. I'm glad I got to try it.

    Reindeer Poop

A warm, foodie (but not overly so) scent. On me the caramel is most prominent, but the whole thing is smooth and rounded. Reasonably strong throw and medium wear length. The label is too adorable.

    Delousing Powder

Delousing Powder is not quite me, as a scent, but I love having been able to try it because it is just such a perfect interpretation of its name. It really does smell like some kind of medical cleaning powder, although not in a nose wrinkling way. It is powdery (without smelling powdery in the way that some BPALs do when they meet my skin chemistry) and lemony. After a couple of hours it gets less powdery and I like this stage best.

    Beachy, Tropical Scents

The Star (disc. Tarot) and Tiki King (past L.E.) are both stongly lemon and coconut, but I wouldn't call it tropical. Elegbra is also very coconuty but also not tropical (iirc it was foody/boozy, but it's been over a year since I tried it).
  24. dzurlady

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

Citrus notes tend not to age well, so the lemon will most probably recede with age.

    Typical time...

I've had that happen before and my order rocked up ok.
