    Queen Alice

The first time I tried Queen Alice I didn't find it remarkable at all. But then again, I had several different scents on at the time since I was at Will Call when I tried it on. I knew that this should work on me it had all the notes that I love. So, I decided to but a bottle and give it a try again. I'm glad I did too. Another thing I discovered is that it makes a difference where you apply the oil too. Sometimes I apply it on my forearm, sometimes on my wrist. I did both with QA. My wrist smells delicious while my arm smells unremarkable. I think that's where I went wrong at Will Call-I applied it to my arm instead of my wrist. At first sniff, I smelled smokey wine with a hint of spicy carnations. There is a very soft undertone of lilies although there are none listed. Maybe that is the posies I am smelling. The amber is light and alluring and adds to the mystery surrounding this scent. I could wear this everyday or every night!

    Tzadikim Nistarim

I received a frimp of this from the lab and my first thought upon sniffing was "umm, calm". It was very soothing to me, but I have a headache, which I guess is a good sign that this is a soft, mellow scent. Otherwise, I can't be around BPAL at all. I detect a little fruit and a bit of sweetness. Overall, I like it and would never have purchased it without help from the lab. It just seems peaceful.

    Al-Shairan

I bought this based on the notes alone, I love the spicy scents. When I first opened the bottle, I couldn't smell anything. I sniffed several times and then finally applied a little to the back of my hand. In the beginning, it was dark, thick and strong patchouli. After another few minutes, I brought my hand up to my nose to smell it again and I made the mistake of touching my hand to my lips. OUCH! I know there is cinnamon in there! Instant lip injection! This works not only as a great scent, but plumps the lips too!! The longer I wore it, the softer it became. I never did smell any orange but I do love this unusual scent!

    Black Lotus

Black Lotus is very tropical with a little fruit and some lovely spices. The lotus notes stay true on my body chemistry and blend really well with the other notes. I had received an imp and tried it first and loved it so much I ordered a bottle and just received the bottle a few days ago. When I wear this I feel like I am transported to a tropical island.

    Masabakes

Masabakes is very heavy on the myrrh and does smell like I invaded my Grandmother's attic after it had been closed up for a century! After half an hour or so there is a sweetness that is developing, perhaps from the currants? It is rich and spicy and it makes me feel quite daring! I actually think I like this-I just have to remember to apply it an hour or so before I want to get the full effects of this bewitching fragrance. I can't seem to stop sniffing myself so this must be one I put on my wish list!

    Nocnitsa

My first thought upon sniffing Nocnitsa was "fruity". I read the description and it doesn't list fruits but that is what I smell even after several hours. I lived on 40 acres as a kid and of course, there were trees. This isn't so much the fir sap, but rather the woody bark. It is more like when all the deer have come and stripped off all the good stuff and the trees are down to nubs, you get the new wood, tree smell. I can smell the sweet moss and the freshly turned earth, but I also detect some sort of spice there too. Maybe it's the resin from the bark? Overall, I like this scent not only because it does well with my body chemistry, but because it reminds me of home.

    French Love

First sniff was very soapy-nothing but soap. But I love dragon's blood so I decided to give it a try anyway. First fifteen minutes was nothing spectacular, still somewhat soapy. What are all these people talking about? I must be looking at the wrong reviews! Finally 45 minutes later I am finally starting to smell the spicy notes of the dragon's blood. I can also smell something floral like gardenia or another tropical flower. I like this oil but I am an impatient person and the only drawback about this one is how long it takes to warm up on my skin.

    Tamora

Tamora was very blah at first but then I discovered that I didn't put enough on. I added more and then this fragrance blossomed. It is light peach, exactly like you just picked it off a tree and took a bite and then juices started running down your face. The vanilla and amber add the right touch to make this a perfect sweet summer blend. After an hour or so I can just start to make out the sandalwood, I normally don't care for it but in this scent it reminds me of the fuzziness on the peach skin. I really find this to be a stunning scent and I plan to put this on my wish list.

    Mr. Nancy

I received Mr. Nancy as an imp from a friend and I have never tried it. Where have you been all my life??? I never tried it because it sounded so masculine, but I was wrong. It is yummy!! I smell like a vanilla and rum sugar cookie with a light frosting of lime. It is oh, so good and the next time I place an order, it will be on it!

    Namaste

... This oil blend is a serene, soothing Indian blend, created to bring calm and joy to the heart and peace to the spirit. Sandalwood, jasmine, rose, patchouli, cedarwood and lemongrass. When I first smelled Namaste, I thought I picked up a little bit of tobacco. It must have been the sandalwood because it only lasted a few minutes and then I definitely could pick up that and the lemon grass. After thirty minutes all I still smell is the lemongrass and now I smell like lemon furniture oil. After another thirty minutes it is finally mellowing down into a softer lemony floral fragrance. While it is much nicer now, I am not patient enough to wai as long as it takes to get to this stage. Off to the swap piles.

    Somnus

I received Somnus from a forumite (thanks Ah-Xia). I had really wanted to try it before purchasing it. I wanted it not only for sleeping, but for the calming effects that it has. The smells is not that great-on my hand it is kind of sour, not a good sign. I read the other reviews where it is suppose to smell like lavendar, violets. etc. I think what I am smelling is the chamomile. I started getting a headache this afternoon and rubbed some on my temples and this actually helped my headache. It is worth it's weight in gold if it helps with those! At lesat I can't smell it if I limit it to the temple area. I don't think I would ever wear it as a perfume scent. I am going to try this tonight at bedtime and see if I get as positive a reaction then as I did for my headache.

    The Darkling Thrush

Darkling Thrush is a nice, lightly violet scent that reminds me of the the last days of snow and the first days of Spring. The amber adds the slightest bit of spice that warms this up like the first rays of sunshine in the morning. I can also smell a sweetness in here too that make this a little on the romantic side. There is something here that I just can't put my finger on-is it vanilla? I really find this to be a delightful oil and I'm very pleased that I was abled to purchase it.

    Alecto

Olive leaf, raspberry leaf, vetiver and cedarwood. The first note I smelled was cedar-my closet is lined with it so I am very familiar with it. That was closely followed by crushed fern leaves. Both are very pleasant. There is a sweetness there too, a fruity sweetness that is very faint but there. I can almost detect a tobacco scent as an underlying note too mixed in with a mulchy, dirt odor. I think this is one I could share with my husband (if I wanted to) but I really hate sharing!

    Bon Vivant

I really wanted to like this but unfortunately it is way too sweet and smells like the old Strawberry Stortcake Dolls that used to be all the rage years ago. This is just too fruity for me, but my daughter will love it!

    Water of Notre Dame

As soon as I applied this, I found it to be very calming. The first thing I did was take a deep breath, and it felt pretty good. It is soft and aquatic and reminds me of a pond with lily pads that my Grandfather built in his yard. It had goldfish and frogs in it and I used to sit and watch it for hours. Butterflies would come and land on the lilies and other tropical plants that were planted there. It was always so calming and relaxing. That is what Water of Notre Dame reminds me of, a calm, utterly relaxing day.

    Bed of Nails

Bed of Nails is a very light citrusy/woody scent that could be worn by either sex. It smells like you just stepped out of the shower and has that brand new fresh scent clean smell. There is an Asian feel to it also-almost like just cut bamboo reeds or shoots, but the fresh green not dried scent. There is also an underlying sweetness there that I only detected after wearing it for an hour. It really has lasted some time too. I like to apply a scent and not have to worry about it. This has nice lingering power.

    Fire Eater

On, this is slightly floral, skimpingly spicy, and a very warm scent. It feels comfortable like a good friend. I feel like I have worn this before, although I recently purchased this with five other of the Carnaval Noir Series and this is the first time I have tried it. The floral in it reminds me of lilies, the deep exotic tropical kind with amber or musk in it too. I really love this scent and now will have to be on the look-out for more!

    Kunstkammer

In the bottle: juicy, fruity, luscious orange On my skin: sweet, sugary oranges. No pepper in sight. Verdict: Absolutely gorgeous! It is much more sweeter than I thought it would be. I think that is the blood oranges talking. I do not detect any pepper at all and I have been wearing it for awhile now. It just keeps getting better and sweeter the longer it's on. This is a good summer scent.

    Shill

Right out of the bottle, this smells like theater popcorn with lots of butter on me. After half an hour or so, I can smell a little stale porpcorn smell-not unpleasant, but I don't think I want to wear it. I think I would rather put this in an oil burner.

    Thirteen (13): April 2007

I purchased two bottles of 13 just from reading the ingrediants-I knew it was sure to be delightful! When I first opened the bottle, it smelled more like white chocolate to me than milk or dark chocolate and I did smell the cocoa absolute in it. It was sharp at first but when the spices began to blend in with the chocolate and herbs, that's when it really began to make a statement. This is one that just keeps getting better the longer you wear it. I'm certainly glad I did purchase two when I had the chance.

    Medicine Show

In the bottle I get a strong sense of tobacco and ginger. Not a bad scent but a little masculine for my tastes. Once applied, it tones down a lot and all the flavors get to mingle and seem to fit together better. I can smell a touch of the rose and a little spicy scent now mixing with the woody, gingery intial blend I first got from Medicine Show. The tobacco has faded into the background and now just adds a sweetness to this oil. Overall, a scent that can be worn by men or women.

    Bad Luck Woman Blues

In the bottle, Bad Luck Woman Blues smelled exactly like caramel sauce for ice cream. I sniffed it two or three times before I could pick up the pepper at all. I applied it to my arm (slathered really) and then started to get the full effect of the mosses and herbs along with the sweet caramel. With my body chemistry, they started to blend nicely, and the more I sniffed my arm, the more I couldn't stop. After an hour or so I started to detect a little floral-lilac?-interesting, quite nice! This actually gets better and better the longer I wear it. I have had it on several hours now and it still smells great. It hasn't faded at all. I think this is one scent that is going to improve with age. If I were rated this, and I rarely do, I would give this a 4.5 out of 5.

    Lady Luck Blues

In the bottle Lady Luck Blues is very beautiful-it smells like a garden of honeyed flowers and spicy fruit trees . Rose is there but in is subtle in the bottle, it doesn't jump out at me. But after applying it to my skin, that is exactly what happens-Hello Grandma! Wow, that's strong! Not in a bad way but in a sophisticated grande dame way. That's how my grandma was. Whenever she left the house she was dressed up, right up until the time she passed away at 92. Her nails and toes were always polished, her hair done, her hat, shoes and purse always matched, her dress was perfect for every occasion. That is what Lady Luck Blues reminds me of-My Grandmother! She alway used to tell me,"you are not born with luck, you make your own"!. Thanks Beth for giving me something back of my Grandmother.

    Beltane 2005-06

Beltane 2006 This is a beautiful scent that is mainly floral with a hint of honey and maybe vanilla. It was strong at first but dried down into a warm, light spicy floral. It is a happy and sunny scent that reminds me of a meadow in the Spring time with butterflies and lots of flowers blooming.

    Black Moon

Black Moon is gorgeous-the first scent I smell is orchid and lotus first and spicy musk next. This is exactly my favorite type of BPAL oils!! This is a wildly exotic oil that reminds me of a tropical island with beautiful birds and tall shady trees. As it dries down, I can smell a little fruitiness there too. Overall, I am so glad that I was able to get this from another forumite. It is now in my top ten favorites list.
