I too got this as a bonus imp with one on the way... and that's not a problem because I really like it. This does not smell at ALL like I was expecting; I thought it would be softer and milkier and sweeter. Instead on me it's a sharp spicey ginger with an edge of something green??? -- I can't figure out what that note is. All I know is this is oddly addictive and invigorating.

    Dana O'Shee

I've been aching to try this and now that I have, it's quite nice. This is a very innocent scent on me, a milky-almond that completely suppresses the honey. Unfortunately I didn't get the play-doh smell others have - I say unfortunately because I adore that smell and was hoping to get it here -- but it's still a nice, light Ivory Snow Girl sort of scent. It fades a bit quickly though.

    Perversion

The perfect scent to wear to your next bondage ball, dungeon adventure or sojourn to your favorite pleasure dome. Smoky rum and black tobacco with a whisper of steamy leather with a splash of crystalline chardonnay, layered over a sensual, sweet, and deceptively magnetic base of tonka. Oh wow, this is divine. Thank goddess I didn't let the rum in the description throw me off (I hate the smell of rum). Unlike others here, I don't get any coconut; on me this smells like I was wearing Kali and then went out and rolled around with a hot dirty stranger. I get a smoke/wine/hot skin smell from this for about the first two hours and then it sweetens just a bit, with the smokey note evaporating. This is easily the most down and dirty-salacious BPAL I have tried yet and is definitely going to be a big bottle for me. It's just magnificent, not to mention spellbindingly addictive. I didn't even think you could bottle something like this.

    La Petite Mort

I loved the sound of this but was intimidated by the ylang-ylang, which is never a scent I get along well with. Sure enough, that is what came stridently through on my first test of this. I was upset because I love Snake Oil and O and yet this did not even seem in the same family as them. Luckily it morphed after about half an hour into what it is now - a mellow golden powdery scent. I still don't get O or Snake Oil (if anything, it reminds me of Haunted) but I do like it quite a bit. It hasn't captured my heart like O or Old Morocco or Kali but it's still a pleasant drowsy afternoon scent.

    Hecate

Of all the BPAL oils I've tried, this has the most extreme arc from wet to dry. When I sniffed the bottle I thought "Oh no - this is going to be horrible on me." Applied it was all smoky almond with a very bitter myrrh edge .... and then gradually it's mellowed into something that is as dark, foreboding and mysterious as you imagine Hecate to be. This is the most exotic and adult of the BPAL almond scents I've tried and perhaps the most addictive; it's never cloying or overly sweet, instead bringing me in further with each sniff. I love the scent purely on its own but I think that I will definitely be using this for divination rites around Samhain - this just smells like clairvoyance, like murky secrets and magic. Of the three Goddess BPAL scents I've tried so far (the other two being Kali and Pele) Hecate is to me the truest and most evocative of that goddess's nature. Lovely.

    Scarecrow

I was really anticipating this based on reviews. So I was disappointed when I opened the imp to be assailed by a very harsh chemical scent. I tested it out... it took about twenty minutes but somehow it evolved into a grassy smell - bright green - then into that barren, scorched scent I was expecting. Unfortunately the sweeter green-vegetative scent disappeared at the same time. I think I may play around with layering this to see what else I can evoke from this.

    Eclipse

So pretty. My only worry with this was the frankincense, but that turned out to be needless: it is firmly in the background. At first the cinnamon dominated on me for about 30 minutes, then the almond came through and I felt I was smelling a warmer, sweeter Queen of Sheba. Then the scent kind of morphed into the perfect blend of the two and well, it's beautiful. Although it fades more quickly than I'd like, it's rather energizing and I really like that.

    Chimera

Wow. I was worried this might smell too similar to my other cinnamon scents but Chimera has a rich honeyed sweetness that sets it apart. Wet I could smell mostly cinnamon sugar; then as this dried down, the honey cake smell came through stronger and stronger, until the cinnamon was just lightly on top. I adore this and it's very comforting, much like Velvet, but it also makes me drowsy. It also gives me the feeling of being sated, so who knows, maybe this is not only going to smell gorgeous but also function as a sleep aid and appetite suppressant.

    Morella

Mmmm, this scent takes me back to childhood. The sharp green whiff in this reminds me of playing in woods and fields at the end of summer, when the herbs and weeds had started to dry out and give off a fresh, slightly bitter scent. I always loved that smell. The sage in this was stronger wet on me, but was trumped by other herbal notes as it dried down. I think I slightly prefer Belladonna to this, but this is very nice. It keeps me feeling ultra-clean even on hot AZ summer days.

    Namaste

Based on the description, I expected to love this. Unfortunately my body chemistry hated it. It smelled nice at first but dried down on me to smell like a rancid floral. I was absolutely baffled. I gave it to my friend who it also didn't work for - she passed it to her daughter, and on her it was absolutely stunning. Scent sure is a funny thing.

    Love Me

I cannot for the life of me pick out the notes in this - and I can't even tell really how I feel about this. I think I was expecting something called "Love Me" to be soft, sultry and subtle. This instead was intensely take-charge - if ever I need to wear an oil to an important meeting or legal battle, I'd wear this because it really seemed to settle on me this aura of command. Once I got over the surprise, I just loved it. Scent-wise I'm a bit iffy on it, but purpose-wise, this is quite a keeper.

BPALs that smell like Urban Decay perfumes?

Excellent, I have Follow Me Boy on order. Thanks!

    Black Forest

Oh wow. I was not expecting this to so completely unnerve me. I grew up in the woods and have only pleasant associations with them but this is definitely a different kind of forest, forboding and cruel. I find the description apt because it reminds me of the kind of forests you find in fairy tales, where the trees come to life and the plants choke you, etc. I too thought I smelled a bit of fur in this -- more than any other BPAL oil so far, this twisted and turned on me, smelling for a few minutes of pine, then turning to something wet and mossy, then turning to a musky animal smell. It was fascinating but more than a little disturbing.

    Depraved

This smells to me exactly like too-ripe fruit and fresh earth. I wasn't sure it would work on me but this dries down to smell pretty much as it did in the bottle, salacious and playful. It reminds me of summer days when the sun warms the ground and fruit intensely enough to coax forth their odor and there's just a faint tinge of rot. Like when you see what looks like a beautiful ripe peach on the ground and you turn it over and it's already swarming with insects. Note: this was immensely popular with my coworkers.

    Black Lotus

Born in the shadows of a Temple to Set, this corrupted Egyptian scent evokes images of black pyramids, river demons, and bleak, deadly desert sands. Black lotus flower, amber, myrrh and sandalwood. This is the only BPAL I've disliked right off. It dried down on me to smell exactly like Robitussin cough syrup. Eventually it morphed into something more palatable and that sticky-sickly candy scent went away, but the lotus still dominated. I was hoping the amber and sandalwood would come through more.

    Satyr

I've seen a lot of recipes for Satyr oil over the years and most of them were too heavy on the pine/juniper end to smell good to me. This however was quite different - very sharp and a little musky. It didn't dry down on me into any discernible scent and so I wound up using the rest in a Pan ritual, with very good results. The next day it left a great subtle scent in the room, which I really loved - alas, my body chemistry just nixes it out.

    Spellbound

Another BPAL surprise. This didn't go hippy-shop on me, nor did it go powdery or repel me with roses, which I usually have a hard time with. Instead it was just enchanting. I really liked this, although I felt underdressed for it -- this seemed like it should be worn with a long gown and pearls. In fact, it really reminded me of something a Silver Screen movie star would wear, someone like Rita Hayworth or Ava Gardner who looked great slinking down a staircase in a satin negligee. Very sophisticated.

    Zombi

Beautifully gloomy. This smells like an autumn funeral ought to. To me it is -- no pun intended -- a very grave scent, good for setting a solemn or meditative vibe, and works well for ritual use. I could see this being perfect for October/November divination and rites. But I also like wearing it just as a spooky earthy scent. Luckily the rose is just a whisper on me and doesn't dominate.

    Alecto

This began as a very woodsy smell on me and after an hour changed to a very comforting, more herbal scent - a suggestion of nourishment, solidity, well-stocked cupboards. At first I thought I would use this just as a room-scent but in fact it smells very pleasant on.

    Red Devil

I agree that this is a very red scent; however, as so often happens with me and red scents, this totally sidestepped any sexual associations and turned me into a fireball workaholic. Everytime I wear it, my energy goes through the roof and I want to work out hard until I drop, then tackle every task around the house I can. Which is probably a more pragmatic use of my time than the "new and inventive ways to get dirty" as promised. I liked the scent on this more than I would have thought - it begins very red and spicy scent (dragon's blood and cinnamon?) but then dries down to something sweeter, yet still empowering. This is a great scent to kick your confidence into gear.

    Shanghai

Loved this. Funny, I couldn't wait to receive Embalming Fluid and it didn't work much for me; this got slipped in as a nice extra and was exactly what I had been looking for in EF! I was really surprised by how much I liked it. It's a real wake-up scent, redolent of a sharp glass of lemon iced tea on a cool spring morning. Tea scents are very hit or miss with me but this was a hit all the way. I have been saving my sample to wear on sleepy days because not only does it make me feel alert, it really chases away my insomniac's morning grouchiness.

    Tempest

Beautiful and vibrant turquoise scent. Usually I love aquatic scents and have no problem with them but for whatever reason this is very emotionally upsetting to me. To my conscious mind it smells exactly like the Holland beaches I played on as a child, but under that is something very sad. My heart chakra opens right up when I wear this. I was going to try Tears but after this I'm a little frightened to do so.
  23. Nepthys

    Embalming Fluid

As a house scent, I loved this. It has a very fresh, crisp scent - like cleaning house with the windows open, minus any chemical residue. But on me the green tea morphed into something unpleasant. It reminded me of a bad cologne I hated during adolescence, though I can't recall the name. But on its own, it was a nice house scent for summer.
  24. Nepthys

    Queen of Sheba

I fell in love with this upon opening the bottle - it was a beautiful scent of honeyed spices and almonds, very exotic and rich. Unfortunately it dries down with a tang of bitterness on me. It's still a warm, pretty scent and I will definitely use up my imp but Old Morocco does what I wanted this to do just a little bit better.
  25. Nepthys

    Snake Oil

I was smitten with this from the first whiff - it was heady and rich and intoxicating, like a drug for my nose. Then I wore it so much I got sick of it. This was my first big BPAL bottle and I have since discovered similar scents that I prefer (like O, Golden Priapus and Old Morocco) that don't overwhelm me as much with the vanilla-richness. But I still like Snake Oil, I just temper my use of it. If I wear it too often, the spiciness becomes invisible to me and all I can smell is the sugariness.
