OMG this is soooo good! I can't believe more people aren't raving about it!! It's for sure the same snow note as Snow White. Once it hits my hair, I can smell the perfumey pepper as well. It's a gorgeous combo, I have never smelled anything like it. Totally wishing I had more than a little 5ml of it now.

I remember Googling what this floral ought to smell like when I first ordered it, but now I can't for the life of me remember what I figured it would be like. Too lazy to look again, so going in blind! Wet: Oh dear lord, why??? Ugh, that's so bad. Heady jasmine soap. That's what it smells like so far on me. Ugh, man I did a bad Google. ICK. Dry: I keep thinking "OMG what stinks?" and then realizing it's me. It doesn't smell exactly like jasmine, because there is no cat pee or feces happening here. But it's got that overly sweet, heady, sensual but also barfy thing happening. And it also smells like soap. Sexy barfy soap. It's like my brain is confused about how it feel about this. I think I don't want to wear confusing perfume, lol. It's a pass, for me. If you like jasmine though, this stuff is likely like crack.

This 13 is like a collection of some of my fave notes: cardamom, coffee, coconut, rum, benzoin, vanilla, sugar.....all notes I adore!! And the rest are ones I at least like, so obviously I had to give this a go. Wet: Mmm, this reminds me of a chocolate coffee liqueur. Yum. It's cozy, comforting - immediately a familiar scent. (Don't judge, everyone likes a spiked coffee once in a while.... ) Dry: Very nice! Soft chocolate, rum, hints of coconut. There's something comforting about it. I may already have too many chocolate scents, but I think I can make room for this one in my collection...

2017 version. I am not a fan of pumpkin spice things, truth be told, but I wanted to compare the base of Pumpkin Spice Everything to Pumpkin Spice Perversion and Cathedral which I really like, and PS Snake Oil which I have on the way. Wet: This does a pretty good, "autumn at Starbucks" impression at first. Then, as it dries, something weird happens. It has slowly transformed into.....cornbread?? Yes, spicy cornbread is what is happening on my skin. BLARG. Dry: The cornbread changed into a sort of muffin scent, so now this smells like a yummy pumpkin spice muffin. I like it! I just don't want to wear it. I want to eat it.

Dead Leaves, Pineapple, Patchouli, and Vetiver
LizziesLuck replied to Failmingo's topic in Halloweenie
Wet: Dead leaves at the forefront - a mix between the realistic dead leaves note I love and the cologney one I am not a fan of. Interesting. Then the patchouli comes through. It's dry and earthy. I can't detect a single bit of pineapple in this. NONE. This is a dark, somewhat masculine scent on me. Dry: This settles into an interesting cologne. I can finally detect a hint of pineapple. It's really a lovely scent, I think I would adore it on a man, I am just finding it's not something I want to wear personally. I do find it insane how that particular combo of notes can combine to make such a refined cologne....Beth's a genius.- 7 replies

Wet: Hmm, this is interesting! When I first got it, I took a sniff and was disappointed, as it was all spice. But I set it aside for...well I cant remember now, but at least a week, I think more likely two? Anyway, it's gotten way less spicy, and the glorious plum note has come forward in the throw (nose to skin is still a LOT of spice.) The plum note reminds me of Shadow in the Elevator. Sadly, the longer it warms on my skin, the more the spices amp to drown out that amazing plum note that I want so much more of. Booooo, skin! Dry: I cannot decide how I feel about this. I will likely age it a few months and try again. Certain phases there is too much spice, which is totally at odds with the plum, Then towards the end, the spice fades and the plum shines, but it goes plastic on me (fruit sometimes does on my skin, sadly). So, ya. This bottle may ultimately be destined for the swap pile, but I am not ready to give up on it quite yet - so much potential!

Wet: Yummmm. Creamy and spicy. A yummy combo. Very sweet I am getting more white chocolate than marshmallow I think. And the spices are different, not cinnamon, but I think maybe nutmeg and ginger instead? There is something underneath that it not sitting well on my skin, though I am really hoping it'll settle, because the rest of the scent is really great. Dry: This is creamy, soft, sweet and fluffy, with just the right amount of spice. I really like it. Glad I grabbed a partial instead of just a decant. Nom nom nom.

2017 version (can you believe I have never tried this before??) The Lab's unmistakeable dirt note, but with lots of other nuances. It's darker than Zombi, somehow. Like richer, loamier earth or something. But there's still that feeling of dampness that I get from Zombi as well, as opposed to most of the other dirt or earth scents, that feel drier to me. This is rich, damp, dark earth. There's a fungal element to it as well. Some decay. And something that reminds me of roots. I like it. There's also something in there that reminds me of something...maybe clay? It's really interesting how nuanced something that is essentially supposed to just smell like dirt can be.

Wet: A very sweet red apple. Dry: Same, but fainter. Not really sure what else to say about it? Very realistic, juicy apple.
-
Wet: Oiy. I don't care much for pom, and I only like mint with some things - turns out pom is not one of them....blarg. This is......not good....on me. ICK. Dry: This smells like the dentist's office on me - a mix of mint and artificial fruit, like that horrid tooth polish they use. This one is a fail on me. I never did get any of the musk....
-
Wet: Lovely fresh lilac, combined with a sweet-yet-clean cream note that reminds me of Boo. I get some candy-sweet, powdery iris as well. Really interesting! I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I am. Dry: Dries down to that sweet cream note (which is sadly not that great on my skin, slightly sour, slightly burnt) and sweet iris and a hint of lilac. It's OK, but not great on me.

The Musk Thread! Need to know what type is for you?
LizziesLuck replied to SKiser's topic in Recommendations
No blueberries in it, or other fruit, I'm pretty sure. To my nose it's closest to white musk. I like it a lot and wish it were featured in more scents. -
Hey, It's been a while since I posted this! Stekkjarstaur is probably my favorite scent of all, I just wish it threw more. Its so close to the skin argh! I enjoy Antique Lace but it's not something I would worry running out of. Right now I'm just looking for 1. more stekk 2. scents similar to stekk /haha. You might try Stale Sugar-Crusted Marshmallow Chick - it's a bit easier to find than Stekk and is a very similar scent.

Wet: This is fresh and lemony (a sweet lemon, almost candied) and very clean smelling, with the bitterness of orange blossom (it is SUPER bitter on me) underneath. Not getting any clove that I can pick out. So far I am not a fan, it smells like a lemon hand wash I have in my kitchen - no a perfume I want to smell like. Dry: This is all about the lemon. It has good strength and lasting power too, which I find rare for a citrus scent, so if you're looking for something that really packs a fresh, strong, lemon punch without too much tartness, give this a shot! It's quite nice, just not to my taste.

2017 version Wet: Sugary fruit! Like peach or apricot. It really reminds me of Snow Angel, as did the Sugar Skull HG I already tried (and loved). This wants to go plastic though, which is an evil thing my skin does to some gourmand or fruit blends. Blarg. Dry: This eventually settles to a light sugary fruit scent. I like it quite a bit. I think it's totally inoffensive and I could get away with wearing it to work or just about anywhere. I may need to invest in a bottle!

2017 version Wet: Oh that's different. I wasn't sure what to expect. The hemlock (pretty sure that's what I am smelling) is very dark and green. Almost spicy? Or maybe herbal is a better word. Man that's an interesting smell. Compelling. As it dries it gets lighter and sweeter, a touch perfumier and less green. It smells cold, forbidding, haunting, beautiful. It's different each time I sniff it, constantly morphing. It smells vaguely familiar - I had something unrelated to BPAL that smelled like this. Couldn't tell you what. I LIKE this. Dry: Once dry I get that same alluring green herbal note, with a floral note I can't quite pin down - it smells kind of like gardenia to me...or maybe magnolia? I confuse the two sometimes. Either way, I figure it's the narcissus, because I seem to recall disliking wisteria, so I don't think it's that I am smelling. Anyway, I enjoy this, I am just having a really hard time imagining reaching it for it and wearing it. I may keep the decant and give it some thought, or a full day test.

Dead Leaves, Tuscan Leather, White Amber, and Mimosa Blossom
LizziesLuck replied to rachelos's topic in Halloweenie
Wet: This is the cologne dead leaves note, if anyone was wondering. The one that smells nothing like dead leaves on me...the white leather smells similar to the Lab's metal note on me - which also smells like cologne, and chemicals. So far, this is not for me at all. Dry: Has a "classic cologne" vibe. Sadly I am never able to wear this dead leaves not, it seems. I sometimes wish the Lab advertise WHICH of their dead leaves notes would be in which blends (same thing with the snow notes) sort of like how musks are differentiated with colours or something. Anyway, I will likely never stop trying them, because there are a couple dead leaves notes that I really do love. Sadly - not this one.- 6 replies

This is the 2017 version Wet: Ooh! That's interesting. I was expecting dead leaves, but these leaves smell as if they're still on the trees - maybe the scent of leaves that have turned but not fallen yet. I like the imagery of that. I hope some smoke comes through, eventually, but right now it's all about the leaves. Dry: Leaves - almost but not quite dead leaves. Pleasant! But I have a couple of dead leaves scents that I like just as well, and this really isn't anything magical on my skin, so I likely don't need any more. Glad to have gotten to try it though!

Wet: OMG that's goooood. I had forgotten how sexy perversion is. Why have a I never grabbed a bottle?? This has hints of spice in it as well, obviously, but to me not the typical pumpkin spice. I may have to compare it to regular Perversion to be able to pick out the differences. Either way, LOVE this, and likely need a bottle *sigh* (I was hoping it would just smell like generic pumpkin spice so I could just pass it up.....) Dry: This is awesome. As expected - sexy perversion with the addition of a dash of pumpkin spice. I likely need a bottle. This also reminds me I need a bottle of Perversion.

I was on the fence about whether I wanted to try this - I decided against it, but was lucky enough to receive a sniffie of it from my lovely decantress Ajevie. Wet: Gorgeous sandalwood (and I mean gorgeous, this sandalwood note is SO GOOD). The orris is very present as well, which I am not a fan of, but it's actually quite pleasant with the bergamot. That sandalwood though!!! Dry: This dries to a really interesting, unisex sandalwood and orris scent. I kind of like it! It's different. I cant honestly see wearing it, but really had to have gotten to satisfy my curiosity and try it.

I was lucky enough to receive a sniffie of this from my wonderful decantress Ajevie. <3 Wet: Yum! There's spice in the pumpkin, so the overall effect is some sort of yummy spicy Mexican chocolate with pumpkin. Delicious. Dry: The combo of chocolate and pumpkin spice kind of reminded me of El Dia de Los Reyes at first, but then the pumpkin came through stronger. It's a really yummy scent. I don't wear many gourmands these days, so I don't think I will need it, but I am glad to have gotten to try it.

Wet: Mmm. This is unmistakably that Lace scent with some creamy (not terribly spicy, which is nice) pumpkin. I don't always love pumpkin - Jack is horrific on me. But this is niiiiice. The pumpkin and hint of spice are subtle, and blend surprisingly well with the "Lace" tobacco, vanilla and cognac. I love this so far. Dry: Mmm, Lace! I really do love the Laces, and this is no exception. Tiny hint of spice, creamy pumpkin (but not too buttery!) on a background of that classic Lace scent. I really like it. Happy to have it!

Beaver Moons haven't worked on me in the past - they all smell like single note "Graham Cracker Crust" and I am not a fan. But I keep trying, because I WANT to love it so much! Couldn't resist the coffee and caramel in this. Wet: Mmmmmmmmmm. Oh this is yummy. Slightly spicy coffee caramel cheesecake. Nom nom nom. I don't wear a lot of gourmands, but I do find them comforting and relaxing on occasion. This totally hits the spot for me. Dry: I can smell chocolate! And some spice! Things OTHER than graham crackers. It's a miracle. Clearly I have to keep it. It reminds me of El Dia de Los Reyes a bit? Chocolate, coffee and spice. It's less spicy, of course, but still has that vibe. I like it. Keeper!

Wet: I don't normally like iris, violet or orris but this I am kind of digging. It's sweet, almost candied, but not that high pitched screechy sweet violet that gives me a headache - something is keeping this in check. Maybe the lavender?? Either way, I don't adore this, but I don't hate it either, which is saying A LOT for a violet scent - I don't have many death notes but violet is almost always one. Just proves you can never write something totally off!! Dry: I cannot get over the fact that I enjoy this. There's something about it that negates the fact that it contains 3 notes that never work on me....don't ask me how! I tried something else that was iris and lavender the other day, and it was HORRID on me. This has sweetness and also depth, but is not sickly sweet. It doesn't go powdery. It's rich and heady without being high-pitched. I am thoroughly impressed. I am not sure I would wear it - it's so ingrained in me to hate violet. But I may keep the decant just to remind me of that one time I liked a violet scent....just maybe there will be other scents with violet in them that I WOULD wear. (Is it weird that I am fearful there will come a day when I no longer have any death notes and I just have to buy EVERYTHING? #FirstWorldBPALProblems. )

Dead Leaves, Black Plum, Bitter Clove, and Oudh
LizziesLuck replied to Larinessa's topic in Halloweenie
Wet: Oudh!!!!! Why must you smell like poo on me?!?! This smells like clove, and plum, and dead leaves, and POO. I thought there would be enough other notes in this that the oudh would be buried - I was WRONG. Dry: It gets a bit better is it dries - man that clove is killer with the dead leaves note, LOVE that combo. BUT I still get whiffs of poo, and nobody wants to smell like that. Skin chem fail!!- 8 replies
