Wet: Candy? Like bubblegum or something? Ylang ylang is often oversweet on me, but it's never smelled like this before. It must be the combo of notes, but this is way more of a candy scent than a floral, right now. It's giving me a bit of a headache. It smells like adolescence and misery. Dry: Still icky sickly sweetness. Thank you, skin chemistry.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?
LizziesLuck replied to Absinthe's topic in Recommendations
They're not exactly the same, but The Lights of Men's Lives is pretty close! The wax and smoke of millions upon millions of candles illuminating the walls of Death’s shadowy cave: some tall, straight, and strong, blazing with the fire of life, others dim and guttering. -
I have been wanting a champagne HG, so am pretty excited to try this! Lots of champagne (the Lab's champagne note amps like no other note on me) and a hint of lemon. Very strong, lots of throw. I love it. Champagne is one of the few "clean" sort of notes (to my nose) that I enjoy. Plus, it's so cool how Beth can make something SMELL fizzy. Like, astounding. Anyway, love it! Happy to have some.

Chocolate and grass! Surprisingly pretty! I didn't know if the chocolate would hold up under all those florals, but it does. I am finding all of the floral notes to be rather green, which I am enjoying - no screechy white florals here. I have found most of the 13's to be sadly similar on me - single note chocolate, despite how many other notes there are. This one is different though, it's like a floral take on a gourmand, interesting and different. I like it, but will pass it on for someone else to try and enjoy also.

Wet: Lovely sweet cherry/almond (my nose does a weird thing and reads them very similar). There's also a weird wet cardboard thing happening that I usually associate with lily. There's a spice there I can't place but it's almost savory? Hmmm. Dry: This is really pretty icky on me. Hard to describe, but just not good. It's the spices, I think. Blarg. Not for me!

I love Snake Oil. Snake Skin was an instant buy, and so was this (and I hope Beth keeps the Snakey blends coming!) Wet: Yep, that's nutty and salty, alright! And...toasted? Like, the nuts are totally toasted nuts, if that makes sense. The salt wants to do an aquatic type thing, but the Snake Oil is all like, "Oh no you don't!" and squashes it back down again. Instead, it makes it...summery. Ya, it's summery instead of being dryer-sheets-aquatic. I have changed my mind about the nuts though....they are caramelized instead of toasted. This is much lighter and softer than Snake Oil. Dry: Still just on the edge of aquatic, but in a way I can really enjoy, which is nice. It's nutty and sweet, but also somehow fresh and....beachy? Like Snake Oil at the beach, lol. I really like it and am glad I grabbed it.

I absolutely had to own this scent. I don't even care if it's horrid on me, I just need it in my collection! (Mostly because I have always wanted to know what it smells like at the Lab - and I assume this will be it!) Wet: Sweet. A bit...lemony? I can detect the Lab's champagne note, which makes sense because I amp it. There's also...cherry? Nope, that's almond, doing that cherry thing. So weird to see what my skin picked out of a slew of every scent ever. Oh there's vanilla bean under it all. And cake! This changes constantly. It feels like Willy Wonky meets The Lab. It's like magic, and I am grinning like a child. There's something green and fresh coming out that I really like! Oooh, I think I detect a bit of the Lab's Popcorn note? It's a bit buttery. OK, I'm going to stop now till it's dry, or I will drive myself nuts. I will say, I expected this to be SO STRONG, because it's like the whole Lab in a bottle, but it's quite subtle and soft so far! (Pavement! Musk! Ok, seriously, I am stopping now). Dry: A dark leather note starts to come out, and the champagne re-emerges. It reminds me of something that could have come from Haute Macabre. Champagne and leather and mystery, that's what Lab Rat is on me. LOVE IT.

Consoling Pussy of Horse Face Mountain
LizziesLuck replied to The Forest Floor's topic in Lupercalia
Tuberose sometimes gets really loud and obnoxious and smells a bit like hairspray on me - it's doing that now, only mixed with something sickeningly sweet. Not pleasant on me, but I can guess how good its potential on the right skin would be. -
Oh that's pretty! Light musk and florals, hints of vanilla. Almost a bit woody? I am looking for really light scents for work, I think this will do nicely! Now to find more....

Looking for some lighter scents to wear at work, so naturally I thought I would give this a go! Wet: Hmm, not sure I would call that neutral. It's like musky lemons or something? It's clean though. And fairly light. I do enjoy it. Maybe I could get away with wearing a dab of this at work? It's kind of bugging my nose though - it almost burns when I inhale it? Then again I have my face right on my wrist. I can't even smell it though with my arm a few inches from my face, so maybe a tiny dab on my neck would not be detectable from a foot away. The waft is lovely when I wave my arm around. I do like this. Dry: This is really lovely. Light, clean. I think pretty inoffensive (I can't even smell it now, after 30 mins, unless I put nose to wrist). I think I have a winner!

Light, gentle, subtle scents for the office, class, expectant moms
LizziesLuck replied to Cegirls's topic in Recommendations
Necrobump! My work just became a "scent-sensitive" environment. Which sucks for me, but I get it. So I am not supposed to wear any scent that anyone else would be able to smell, even if they were sitting next to me in a meeting. I know there are several people in the office sensitive to scents. I don't want to cause anyone discomfort, but I would love to still wear a bit of perfume that only I can smell. The problem is, in my whole, rather large, collection, I have very few scents that are "light". Everything seems to have too much throw or be too strong. I plan to only wear the tinniest amount, so that won't be the issue, but I also want to choose really light, inoffensive-to-most type smells. I don't like aquatics or most "clean" smelling scents. I only like mint on rare occasions in the summer. A lot of citrus (orange in particular) turns powdery and gross on me. But I am open to trying whatever. Please help me out with some recs! Thanks. (will be avoiding patchouli, musk, tobacco, and incense - I amp them all and they are STRONG on me) -
I needed to try this because of the Nepalese Amber (one of my favourite notes ever, and seen so rarely!) and mixed with red musk!! So I had to. Wet: WOW. This scent is like a party. A sexy party. I get a surprising amount of lotus. But it's sexy lotus, with lots of musk. It's sweet and floral, a touch herbal, very musky. Just sexy somehow! Goes a bit powdery on my wrist, but stays true in the crook of my elbow. Sweet musky goodness! It reminds me of...something. Only better? Apparently this scents also defies description, I am stumped. It's good though. Dry: Mmm. Lotus (which I am loving in this!) red musk, a hint of pleasant powderiness. Still very sexy. The amber is not as prominent as I hoped, but this is still gorgeous. It feels really classic and classy. Really happy to have it!

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued
LizziesLuck replied to darklorelei's topic in Recommendations
I've never smelled it, but just based on note, The Witch Queen shares a few - Wild plum, red musk, tuberose, calla lily, heliotrope, pimento, ylang ylang and beeswax beneath a dark haze of sinister purple-hued incense smoke. Maybe The Waltz of the Flowers? White musk, Madonna lily, jasmine sambac, ylang ylang, bourbon vanilla, and clove. It has the lily, jasmine and ylang ylang in common. What are the most dominant notes on you? That may help in narrowing down something else that could be close... -
So, I thought this would be bad on me because of the jasmine, but then Ava was randomly magic on me (who would have thought??) and I heard this was similar (and way cheaper) so I snagged it. Wet: Oh ya. Very like Ava. So, basically, GORGEOUS. Glittering musk and sunny florals, that's what this is. Stunning. Dry: I will have to do a side-by-side, but right now I can't tell the difference between this and Ava, and that is really exciting, as I only have a half bottle of Ava and was sad about that. This is the sweet pale musk and floral scent of all our dreams. <3

Wet: Fruity, floral, spicy red musk. Yuuum. Oooh, some smoke is coming out. This is great. Sexy. Smouldering. Dry: The clove is even more pronounced than I could have hoped (I'm obsessed with clove these days). It's smoky and sweet and musky. This is really something else. So happy I went out on a limb and snagged it.

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but Lamia smells like a steamy jungle to me. Death Adder has that steamy feel to it as well.
-
So, apparently I never reviewed this, even though it's one of my all-time favourite bedtime scents. For me, it's the combination of the sweet benzoin and sticky fig with the lavender that really does it for me. The sweetness cuts the herbal, sometimes astringent edge that lavender can have, and makes this so soothing and comforting. A great scent for rainy days, too!
-
I haven't actually sprayed this yet, as it is sooo much leather in the bottle! Way more than the perfume, but I have realized both my bottles of perfume are aged. Thus, I am aging this a bit before use. It smells just like the perfume though, only with the leather amped WAAAY up. If you like leather you won't be disappointed!

Wet: This smells like a summer night after it's rained. Not what I was expecting, but quite pleasant. There's other, subtle payers happening here, but overall the impression is of a hot evening and rain on the pavement. I am liking this so much more than I expected! I do get hints of wax that suggest lipstick, but it's secondary to the atmospheric scent that's happening. Dry: Surprising in so many ways! 1) this is aquatic. I wouldn't have expected that. 2) I like it!!! I never like aquatics. But this stays true, not going soapy or "drier sheets". It's clean, without being headache inducing to me. It's sweet and clear. I wonder if it's the "fading perfume" that's coming through now that it's dry that I am liking so much. There's something familiar, yet vague about it that I find comforting. I'm honestly not sure if I would wear it, it's not typical "me" but part of me strongly wants to purchase a bottle.

Wet: Wow, that is a dirty, dirty rose. Almost chemical smelling. The rose is there, but it's shadowed by...well, murk really is a good word for it. Not sure how I feel about this. I like that rose note in there, but the rest.... Dry: Unfortunately there is too much sour vetiver in this for me to enjoy it.
-
Wet: Lots of what smells like vetiver, even though it's not listed, balanced out by sweet syrupy opoponax. I sometimes find vetiver sour, but this is the sweeter, smokier variety. It really does smell like fire and brimstone. It has enough sweetness to be pleasant on me, though I am not sure I could wear it. As it dries, a really sweet black licorice note comes out of nowhere, and this starts to remind me quite a bit of Black Annis. Dry: Still reminds me a bit of Black Annis, but it's smokier, and a bit of sourness has crept in, spoiling it for me. Not great on me, really, though not horrible.
-
Wet: Really sharp wood. I was hoping for the blonde wood note from The Changeling, which I adore, but this is sour. The musk isn't really identifiable, it just smells like sharp, sour, wet wood. Dry: Woody and manly. Very sharp, still sour and a bit bitter. I am going to try aging it to see if that takes the edge off.
-
Agreed, Cave of Treasures is the best lilac I have ever smelled! His Station and Four Aces and Adante Con Fantasia are my other two lilac faves.
-
This is a mish-mash of notes that are great on me and notes that are awful. Somehow I felt I should try it anyway. Wet: A really gorgeous cedar note (no pencil shavings here!) and some citrus. This would smell amazing on a man, but so far it's not quite for me. Dry: Woody and citrusy. A really nice scent, but just not me. I still think it would smell fantastic on the right person, especially a guy.

Wet: Tons of gorgeous, sweet, resinous red musk. I adore red musk, but sometimes it's really sharp and almost sour. Not here! This is the sweet, rich variety or red musk that I love. The Frank and labdanum combine to add sweetness, and a thick, syrupy sort of resinousness that I enjoy. I pick out hints of Dragon's Blood, but just hints, it's not overwhelming like it often does on me. Red musk is the star. This is actually what I wanted Aries 2015 to smell like. This is a dark red, rich scent. Powerful and brooding. I really like it. Very atmospheric Dry: Sweet resinous tobacco. A bit chewy, a bit spicy. A bit earthy and woody. Really good! Trying to decide if I want a bottle.
