Gingery floral dryer sheets! I would love for my laundry to smell like this! It's quite nice. Very clean. Not powdery at all. I don't typically like aquatics at all, but as the ginger and floral notes come forward and overtake the dryer sheet effect, I find this is actually quite pleasant. Not sure I can see wearing it. I like gardenia quite a bit though, in the right blend, and this is a very nice gardenia. It's great with the ginger, smells tropical and heady. Sadly, those aquatic notes add just enough of the "laundry" vibe, that I don't truly like this, but I can appreciate it.

I purchased this after-market, and was worried at first it had gone off - in the bottle it smells only of carrier oil I needn't have worried though, once it warms on my skin, it blooms into the most amazing honey note I have ever smelled. It's gorgeous. Better than O. Better than Womb Furie. At least as good as White Bees Swarming. I really love it. The sage behaves, and the hyssop is muted and quite pretty, reminding me of the hyssop note in Hellhound. My only complaint is that this isn't very strong after a few mins on my skin. Freshly applied though - heaven. And where I got it on my sheets and pajamas, also heaven. Happy I took the chance on this one!

Wet: Hmmm. The rose isn't as WHAM in my face as I expected. This reminds me of the red rose in Whip. Actually, the whole thing reminds me slightly of Whip, with the animalic leather of Whip replaced with furry musk. It's certainly interesting. It's kind of....chewy. I never thought I would describe a rose scent as chewy- that's usually a word I use to describe certain tobacco, patchouli, or resin notes. But this is a chewy rose. I kind of like it? But it's not wowing me like I expected it to. Then, to be fair, I have found myself reaching for rose scents less and less last year and into this year, whereas in 2015 I was all about the rose. Dry: This is nice - I mostly get the "fur" note, which translates as similar to leather or suede to my nose. Very nice! Hints of rose as well, but clearly I amp that other note. Makes it very different from the other rose scents I have. It's often hard for me to find a really wearable leather scent, and this is vey very wearable on me. Makes me think I might like more of it! I wasn't expecting it to smell like this, that's for sure! Very very nice. Still does remind me of Whip though, and I may do a side-by-side before I make any decisions about this.

I split this decant with a friend, and when I was splitting the decant into two, this smelled so horrid that I have avoided testing it. Time to give it a shot though! Maybe it's settled? Wet: Good lord! I thought it would be the orris that killed this for me, but it's the white tea note that is so incredibly bitter and astringent and nose wrinkling! Whoa. However, I must say, as it warms it does get better, losing some bitterness, however it is still really high pitched! And strong. I only dabbed a bit on, and I can smell it wafting from my arm as I type. Not getting any other notes, just high pitched, perfumey white bitter as hell tea. Dry: The tea finally dries down. The sandalwood amps up, but I think mixed with the orris it is just soooo dry and powdery. Almost dusty smelling. Not nearly enough sweetness for me to enjoy it. Not for me! Glad I tried it though.

The Musk Thread! Need to know what type is for you?
LizziesLuck replied to SKiser's topic in Recommendations
Recalcitrant Dragon is probably my favourite! Mine too! It's awesome and unique. ETA: Haven't tried it, but Venus Murcia sounds good too - Crushed grass, honey myrtle, and dew-touched green musk. The recent Weenie Die Nacht also had green musk - A haze of verbena, lemon rind, transparent amber, ectoplasmic green musk, ti leaf, and bamboo. Not sure how prominent it was though, as the other notes kept me from trying it. -
Wet: Whoa. Angry patchouli, dirty patchouli. DARK patchouli. This is murky, gritty and dirty. Not particularly pleasant, thus far. Not getting enough sweetness to round this out. Dry: All dirty, earthy, dry patchouli. I never get any of the other notes at all. Not for me, but if you love a really dry, dark, menacing patchouli scent, give this a shot!

I adore Montreal, and have spent a lot of time there - lots of happy memories from a really happy part of my life. Wet: I get the Lab's "cold" note, quite strongly, with hints of woods and chocolate. I think there's some pine in here, and it's amping up, which is likely to ruin this for me. When I think Montreal, I don't think pine trees Dry: You know, I really thought I wasn't going to like this, but it has dried down to something really nice. To me, it's more Winter in Canada than Halloween in Montreal, but I get the general idea. Frost in the air, woods close by. I do get hints of sweets (chocolate sweets, I think). It's very light though, not much throw or staying power. I could see getting a bottle, but only really for sentiment, I doubt I would wear it more than once a year. But if you enjoy cold, woody scents, this would be perfect, I imagine.

Apparently I forgot to review this! I had had Revenant Rhythm hair gloss and bath oil for quite some time before getting my hands on Banshee Beat. I find them pretty much identical, and hope that eventually there will be a Revenant Rhythm perfume as well, so we can all stock up! It's the sweetness of this that I love so so much. It's somehow more than the sum of its parts. The vanilla is in perfect harmony with the patchouli - the patch doesn't dominate like it sometimes does on my skin. A favourite, for sure!

Ooooohh!! Caramel and cardamom, is what I get initially, and that makes me giddy with happiness. I ADORE cardamom. And caramel. And I was expecting neither, so this is exciting. Mmm, there's something buttery. That note always turns awful on my skin, so it's lovely to smell it as intended, in an atmo, without my skin to wreck it. This smells like childhood, and joy, and everything right in the world. and if you like being happy, you should likely try it.

This darker than I expected. The tea is dominant, with just hints of the other notes. I find this tea note a bit lemony, which I was not expecting. I love vanilla and anise, and wish they were more prominent to my nose. The Myrrh is lovely, with the vanilla. I just wish the whole thing was stronger. I think I would enjoy it better in a different format - this does not seem consistent, it smells different on a pillow than it does on my sweater, than it does in the air, and I just can't decide what the think about it.

The notes in this sound gorgeous and golden, but there is huge potential for the Frank to be a bully and stomp all over everything else.... Wet: Hmm, more herbal than I anticipated, the chamomile is really making a showing. Annnd then in comes Frank. I do like Frankincense, I just hate how it turns EVERYTHING to single note on me. And that's sort of what is happening right now. Though I think this is the prettiest, warmest, most golden Frank I have ever smelled. Mmm. Dry: Mostly just golden Frank *sigh*. Hints of something a bit sour and herbal. Maybe a touch of amber. Not the scent I was hoping for, but certainly what I expected with the Frankincense. Oh well, I'll keep trying! One day the right Frank blend will come along.

Wet: I gotta be honest - tea and chocolate is a bit of an odd combo, so far. Was hoping for more tea and leather, but it's definitely tea and chocolate. Dry: Just tea. It seems I amp tea, which I am just now realizing. I do like tea, but I think I enjoy it more when it's with other notes it can stand up to, so it doesn't become a single note on me.

I am loving two new snow scents - Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry (bright, slightly vanillic snow and cold musk) and Winter Landscape, which, on me, is snow with hints of clove, sandalwood and Tonka. I don't normally go for snow scents, but both of these are gorgeous! I will thoroughly enjoy wearing them this winter.

A Thousand Thoughts, and Hopes, and Joys
LizziesLuck replied to HerbGirl's topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
Wet: Hmm, this barely smells like anything! Then I start to get hints of freesia. And something fruity? Like pear, maybe. Not at all what I was expecting! Where's the carnation at? Dry: The carnation has come out. This is still somehow a bit fruity, reminding me faintly of Queen Alice. Only getting the faintest hint of freesia. Also the faintest hint of plastic. Sadly, I don't think this is meant for my skin. And I had such high hopes! I will test again another day, and how today was just a bad skin chem day. ETA: Second test - apparently vanilla plus freesia really does equal plastic on me. -
Oooh, that's nice. Sooo nice. The tobacco is sweet and rich, and I actually feel like I smell sweet sticky fig fruit rather than the leaf. The patchouli is earthy (not gnarly) and behaving itself well. Just a touch smokey. Wow, this might be my new favourite tobacco hair gloss. Shit. I only have a decant... This is sexy, down and dirty in the best possible way. Need more.

Oh my gosh this is good. The cigar smoke reads as rich tobacco to me. Mixed with the sweet boozy notes, this is heaven. Heaven! I want it in perfume form, like, yesterday. As it dries on my sleeve, a bit of the leather comes out. This is sexy. I think I need to track down a full bottle, and spray ALL THE THINGS with it.

I love rum and brandy notes, sweet scents, spices, so even though I am not a HUGE foodie scent lover anymore, I figured I might as well give this a go. Wet: Ugh. Somehow, I kid you not, this smells like banana medicine on me. You know, that gross stuff you had to drink as a kid? Blarg. WHY, skin, WHY?? Dry: This is so incredibly artificial on me. I may have to accept that I can't really do cream/milk notes. It's not banana medicine anymore, it's scented doll plastic. Not good. Sad.

2016 version I have never tried Jacob's Ladder before. Crazy, right? But I only realized this year how much I love amber. Wet: Amber, a bit powdery, hints of galbanum and benzoin. Pretty, classic. Dry: I really love amber, but I find this one goes a bit powdery on me (I know some have that issue regularly, but I normally don't). I think I will keep the decant and see how it ages, perhaps finding a bottle from one of the previous releases would be better than fresh.

Me either, it seems some do, some don't! Bumping the thread due to my newest obsession, carnation. My favorite Carnation perfumes are Hod and Morocco. I have imps to try of Bathsheba and I want to track down Brisingamen. I am waiting for A Thousand Hopes and Dreams and Fears to settle. I will probably never be able to find a bottle or decant of the The Masque. What are some other carnation perfumes to try? Hey my fellow carnation lover! I think you'll like Brisingamen, I do. Keep meaning to get a bottle. Hod and Alice are my faves, (Morocco is all sandalwood on me, which I love, but not a carnation scent for me). I can't wait for my decant of A Thousand Hopes to get here! Anticipating needing a bottle. Have you already tried Queen Alice? It's another GC carnation fave of mine. Miss Lizzie and Cushing Manor "Atmofume" are my newest carnation loves, but they're both harder to find. I know "soliciting" is not allowed, and this is not that, but if you wanted to try The Masque, dear Sprout, I know a certain someone who has a bottle and would gladly send you some to try. PM me if you want. I think you will love A Thousand Hopes and Dreams and Joys. It is very similar to Morocco with no Sandalwood. I have a bottle of Liebeszauber on the way. I have a very aged bottle of Queen Alice that I should retry. I love, love, love Cushing Manor. Miss Addie is very hard to find as is the Bandersnatch. Brisingamen has been out of stock the last few times I was checking to add to my order. What about Bathsheba? Sadly, Bathsheba has one of the Lab's plum notes that turns to plastic on my skin, so I can't enjoy it. Sounds like it would be awesome though, if you don't have that same issue! Alice, The Reaper of Cruelty has some carnation with the geranium, have you tried that? Judith and Holofernes as well.

Wet: The coffee and vanilla combo immediately reminds me of The Worst Pillow, which I love. This is different though. The vanilla is different, the coffee note is a bit different, and as the opium comes through....my word. This is GOOD. A non-gourmand, somewhat floral vanilla, with coffee and opium incense, is what I am getting. Sweetened coffee. And now hints of an anise like quality - the same as French Vanilla SN has. Which I enjoy. Liking this a lot, but man it's a morpher! Dry: Gorgeous vanilla, very similar to French Vanilla SN, with hints of coffee and a tiny bit of incense. I adore vanilla perfume, and this is no exception. It's a dark vanilla. Really really love it. I think it'll age quite well also.

My bottle came with Flowers for Algernon, which I couldn't be more pleased about, I have been meaning to read it for ages! I have to admit though - this smells terrifying in the bottle. All chemically leather, ick! Wet: Chocolate, ink, and moldy leather. Oh gosh. Please get better. Where is the candle wax, smoke, and chocolate scent I was hoping for? Blarg. I will be patient. I am determined to love this. Dry: Truly horrible on me, and I am so sad! I do get hints of chocolate, but the smoke and leather combo is so sour I just can't get past it. No candle wax to be found. Sad. Going to age it and see if it'll settle into something my skin chemistry doesn't ruin.

Wet: Sticky sweet labdanum, syrupy and bright. The Myrrh is coming through as this warms up. This is a very warm, sweet scent. Labdanum, like opoponax, sometimes has a cola type vibe to my nose, and I am picking up a bit of that here. Dry: For a long time I have been dreaming of a scent that is strong vanilla and a bit of Myrrh. This is not it. This is strong Myrrh and a bit of labdanum. Quite nice! But I have enough Myrrh perfume, and I think I prefer it with other things than the labdanum. It's nice though! Just not wowing me.

Wet: Juicy, tangy-sweet fruit, orange and apricot in equal measures. The lavender is a bit sharp at first. The amber sweetens it all, but it's also lending it a powdery edge. Or the orange is about to go to powdered bathroom cleaner on me, one or the other. Dry: This dries down to a fruity powder candy type smell. Quite pleasant, actually. While I love apricot, I am more of a fan of it when it is fresh and juicy and a bit tangy. I tend not to wear very many candy type scents, so this one is not for me. Reminds me vaguely of Jiggery Pokery, somehow, only less bright, and not as creamy. I haven't worn JP since summer though, so I could be crazy.

I LOVE lavender for bedtime, so this was an instant buy. I didn't even test this, I just took one sniff from the bottle, sighed contentedly, and then slathered it all over myself. Now I'm in bed, and not only me, but my whole bedroom smells wonderful. Love this. BUT I still don't know what Oudh smells like. I can never fully pick it out in anything, or describe it...I just can't get a handle on it. But I love this, and that's good enough for me! Will happily be slathering this on before bed for the rest of the winter. May need a second bottle.

Oh yum. The olibanum and opoponax are really gorgeous together, and the dark purple fruits are gorgeous. I love this. Gorgeous. I feel like I'm using that word a lot, but really it is. It makes my house smell like.....expensive. Lol. Whatever that smells like. I would totally wear this as perfume. The fruits are completely balanced with the other notes. Really good. Glad I went for the full bottle, I will use it all!
