Orange blossom could go really wrong, but all the other notes are win, so I'm trying it! Wet: Blarg! Bitter orange-blossom-wet-cardboard-of-doom! Hopefully that settles. Dry: Very faint light honey, which has gone a little dusty. It's off because that's not really something honey usually does on me. Glad I tried it, but not for me.

    Aelopile

I wanted this imp for a friend, because he's said he wants to smell like cedar, and this sounded promising. I am trying it before I give it to him. Is that tacky? Don't care! Lol Wet: Woody, citrusy, cologney - we're off to a good start! It's a little bitter though (at least on me). Dry: The citrus all burns off, and this dries down to a very musky, sort of salty wood smell. It's very manly, kinda sexy. Who knows how it'll smell on my guy friend, or if he'll like it, but I think it will be much more suited to him than me!

The Arrival at the Sabbath and Homage to the Devil

Wet: Sweet, wonderfully smoky, a little bit floral, and just a hint of plastic. Hoping that will fade away! Dry: This is amazing - underneath the plastic. It makes me so sad, because I can smell how fantastic the caramel is with those other notes, but something in here has turned to plastic on my skin and ruined it for me. Heartbreaking!

    Copper Phoenix

Wet: Soap. Soap, soap, soap, and then patchouli. Orange is iffy on me (the rest of these notes I love) so I am guessing it is somehow creating the soap vibe. Dry: Ugh, why do you have to ruin everything, skin? The orange is terrible on me, and of course I have amped it to high heaven. I don't get any of the other notes (which are all great on me) just overly sweet, powdery orange.

    A Thought from Propertius

I love apricot scents. Pandy, Aristocratic Couple, Depraved - all favourites. Wet: I get the same apricot note I know and love, but the cayenne is reading as a weird cross between eucalyptus and cinnamon. It's gross. But I have a feeling it will settle, so I am going to be patient. It's a little bit warm where I tested it - not burny, per se, but I have never experienced an oil to warm my skin before. It's kind of pleasant! The spice is slowly settling into something less unpleasant, but it is also amping to high heaven. Blarg! Dry: Thank goodness, this settles down nicely, and it's lovely. Sweet and still slightly tart apricot, with hints of warm spice to give it some depth. Lovely.

    International Shipping Info+Questions

Ah, yes i think maybe 6 imps= 1 item aha. Was your 19-bottle order presented in a small flat rate box perchance? ;D Oh it's a shame about recycling day! I should have written this yesterday Yes it was a small flat rate box, that's what I've always received from the Lab.

    International Shipping Info+Questions

I don't think the 20 items applies to imps. My largest recent order (around when Lupers were released) was 19 bottles, and there's always a million frimps as well. The Lab packs them so the bottles are all in a row together with bubble wrap around the outside of them. So there is no bubble wrap between bottles, for the most part, but they are packed tightly so they don't rattle around too much. Significantly less would fit in if you wanted to wrap bubble wrap around each individual bottle for added safety. Unfortunately it was recycling day today, so I can't dig back out the box I got this week and see how many I could cram in it to better answer your question. Lol.

    Black Lace

I can barely contain my excitement. After coveting this scent for what felt like forever, I managed to get my hands on both a bottle of the Resurrected version, AND the original version, in the same week! The BPAL gods have been kind to me. Problem is, it's bloody allergy season, and I am so stuffed up! So I have taken copious amount of medication, eaten fiery buffalo wings, and had a crazy hot steamy shower....you know, the things one does to clear ones sinuses. I've really only had moderate success, but I am not waiting any longer! Right wrist (Resurrected) Wet: Sweet tobacco, vanilla. Gorgeous! Lighter than I expected. Oh it's so good. I thought for a second I got the apple some people were talking about, but I think it was in my head? I'll likely never know, unless it's the dominant note (and usually even then) apple burns off on my skin. A hint of a fabric note, but not the "clean" fabric from Boo, this is..well, like old lace. I totally get it now. It's warm and rich, almost spicy, but not quite. Feminine, sophisticated, beautiful. Dry: Even better than I expected. Sweet, creamy, sensual vanilla with a hint of tobacco and cognac. Glorious. So happy to have it! Can't wait to test the original. Left wrist (Original) Wet: Strong tobacco! Very strong indeed, and dark. Interesting, because when I smelled them both in the bottle, they smelled quite similar, but this is much different on my skin. I wonder if it's on account of the aging? If I recall, the original is from 2007 and it was resurrected in 2010. The tobacco in this is sharper, not as sweet, almost gritty/ Dry: This settles nicely. It's still much darker, more incense. Not as sweet. Less vanilla. But they're quite similar now, and unmistakable as the same scent, I would attribute the difference to age, perhaps? Or it could be slight batch variation, as others have thought. To be perfectly honest, I love resurrected more, and am hoping it is batch variation, because I want my resurrected to stay just as it is. Resurrected is beautiful from application all the way through dry down. The original really takes a while to settle in and bloom on my skin, and in the end I find the slightly sweeter resurrected version just that much better.

    Discussion of all things Amber

I love amber. The problem is, it's a total bully note on my skin! Most things with amber as a dominant note turn into amber single note. I am looking for some recs that I may not have thought of yet where amber is paired with other strong notes that can stand up to it and provide some complexity. Amber blends that become a single note on me: Yellow Metal with Mingled Purple Brushes Hesiod's Phoenix (but it's such a beautiful amber that I don't much care - it is my favourite "pure amber" scent) Thomas Sharpe - while I loved the black amber note, that's all it was on me. Brisingamen Golden Priapus Amber that works on me: Haunted - the black musk is strong enough to make it's presence known O - the honey overpowers the amber L'Estate - somehow all the notes are just in perfect balance Tamora - the peach manages to subdue the amber The Harp of Cnoc l'Chosagair - I think maybe it's the sandalwood that grounds this? I really do love amber, I just want to smell other notes with my amber. Any recs welcome! Thanks in advance.

    Hod v2

I haven't gotten my hands on the original Hod yet, but I but I have Hod resurrected, and am still trying to decide about it - it seems different each time I test. I LOVE carnation though and haven't had a lot of success finding carnation blends that I adore, so when I saw this on the Lab's etsy, I snatched it up. Wet: Pretty. Very sweet and creamy. Way more vanilla than Hod Res. Less amber, I think. But also less carnation, I am only getting them as a hint. I added a bit more oil to my test patch, and finally found the carnation! This is a very sweet vanilla sugar and carnation scent on me, at this point, whereas I find Hod Res to be more amber and carnation. Dry: I am so stuffed up today, but I am being really stubborn and still wanting to test anyway because I am sick an miserable and it makes me feel better! I get carnation, a hint of something green, and vanilla sugar (which for once hasn't turned to plastic on me!). I think I really like it, but I will have to retest when I am feeling better.

    Ghosts

Wet: Ghosts is so much sweeter than I anticipated, and the violet leaf (which is usually very green and somewhat bitter on me) I find smells more like violet flower, but not in a way that makes me instantly hate it's face. So that's interesting. It um, kinda smells like bananas? Or banana candies, or popsicles, BANANA FLAVOURED THINGS, if you will. Very interesting. What's even more interesting is that I don't hate it. At all. I don't know what to think, the world's turned on its head. Dry: Ok, so there are no bananas here (unless you count me). I don't know where I got that from. It DOES smell a bit like violet though (or maybe more like orris, which smells like a less-sweet more-powdery violet to me). That kind of scares me, cuz I thought violet leaf was a safe note for me, apparently not. Anyway, bananas, violets, whatever this is, I don't hate it, but it's not for me. It has managed to confuse the heck out of me though... "Ghosts of Liz's sanity" might be more apt right now. Note to self, no more testing while heavily medicated...
  12. Not even remotely! At least not to me. Stekk is all fluffy marshmallow. DP is really really buttery and a totally different vanilla note. I don't find Stekk has a cream note either, whereas DP definitely does. Could just be my chemistry/nose though.

    International Shipping Info+Questions

I am pretty sure they always combine when asked, but I always email them with my order numbers so that it doesn't get missed. Did you specifically ask them to combine? Do they usually just do it without you saying anything? I don't know because I always send an email. That's likely disappointing for you! I know how painful international shipping is! It does sometimes take a couple of days for your refund though, so maybe it's still coming? I combined two Etsy orders and they shipped Thursday and my refund hasn't come through yet. Ah, that must be where I went wrong! With previous orders, the lab has noticed the simultaneous orders and combined the shipping without my saying anything, so I didn't bother emailing them to let them know. Oops They're pretty awesome about it, I know they try to do it as much as possible, but when they're really busy they may not notice, so I always email them to make sure.

    Eden v7

I adore coconut. I go crazy for the stuff. It's what I want to smell like all summer long (different variations of it, of course). The released version of Eden doesn't do a lot for me, in fact, it's much more fig than coconut. Wet: Something green - like an unripe banana. I would guess it's actually fig leaf. I can smell the coconut underneath, but it's totally dominated by greenness right now. It's quite pleasant. Not what I was expecting, different than anything I have ever smelled from BPAL. Interested to see how it dries! Dry: The greenness slowly fades, leaving me with light, fresh, sweet coconut and fig. It's not overly sweet, as I find the released version of Eden to be. I think the real difference for me is that this lacks the almond milk which dominates with the fig in the released version. THis is so much fresher. I really like it. Not sure yet how it will stack up to my other coconut scents (I think I have an insane number, like 15 or more), but I do look forward to wearing it this summer!

O Daughter of Death and Priapus

Wet: It opens with smoky opium, followed by sweet resinous olibanum (which smells like Frankincense to me, I'm not sure what the difference is?). Dry: This gets pretty much eaten by my skin. What's left is, sadly, nothing that excites me, just hints of some dark smoky-sweet resins. It's pleasant, but not wowing me.

    Some Strangeness in the Proportion

Wet: Much sweeter than expected! Interesting. A little strange. Kind of chemically. Annddd it's turning to plastic. Weird! Dry: Something gives the impression of a chemically sort of leather scent. I think it's the labdanum, and I am not caring for it. Sweet plastic! Not for my skin, sadly.

    Orgy with Nine Women

Wet: Magnolia is really strong at first. But then the tobacco and honey bloom...awe yea. There's this sort of sweet, toastiness - like marshmallows on the campfire. amazing. If this dries like this, I need a bottle. Only issue is it's not very strong, but my nose is a bit stuffed today (allergies) so that could be the issue too. Dry: Sadly, the blonde tobacco note totally disappears. This dries down to a slightly sharp, floral honey. It's not bad, by any means, but compared to when it was wet, it's a tad disappointing. I don't think I will need a bottle after all.

    Monster Bait: Ventriloquist Dummy

Ok, so I'm a little obsessed with the Monster Baits. I picked up Closet and Underbed straight from the Lab in 2006, but I was on one of my many BPAL hiatuses in 2007 when this one and its mates came out. I am determine to try them all! I was so excited when this popped up on the Lab's Etsy! I bought it straight away. Wet: Slightly gnarly patch, followed by caramel and hazelnut. Interesting! The patch has turned drier, it's no longer gnarly, which makes me happy, I prefer a drier, earthier patch. The caramel note has that almost burnt sort of Crème Brule edge. I wish I was getting more apricot, I know from Depraved that patch and apricot is an amazing combo. But this is all patch and what I think now is actually the brown sugar rather than the caramel. I quite like it. Dry: A very dry scent. Primarily dry patchouli, nicely sweetened by brown sugar and caramel. I quite like it! So different than the other Monster Baits. I am not sure how "me" it is, but I really like. I will have to test again to see if it is something I will wear, as I have discovered there are lots of scents I really like, yet somehow never reach for.

    The Soldier

Red musk, vanilla cream, black tea, black pepper, leather, and pie. I've had my eye on this for a while. Recently I was purchasing something else from the Lab's Etsy, and snagged this as well. Wet: Mmm, red musk, with a lot of sweetness, just like I like it! It makes for an interesting sexy/gourmand combo that I adore. In the same vein as Elephantine Colossus, which is one of my fave red musks, and also akin to Now Winter Nights Enlarge, and even Red Lace to some extent - sweet creamy complex red musk. LOVE. Dry: I am so happy with this, it's just what I had hoped! The leather hasn't ruined it like I feared (it's iffy on me) in fact, I can't even detect it. This is just sweet, creamy, slightly gourmand red musk. To die for!

    Implacable Beautiful Tyrant Hair Gloss

This was a no-brainer for me - ginger, amber etc - of course I was eventually going to add this to my collection! It just took me forever to get it, because there were always so many shiny LE things taking my attention. But I finally got around to getting it. Even then - took me forever to test it! I was just so sure I would love it, I almost thought why bother, I will just put it in the drawer and wear it. But then I thought, well what exactly will I wear it with...guess I had best test it. So I sprayed some on my shirt. What happened next is totally inexplicable. You see, it started to smell really familiar! Like, so familiar, but not like a BPAL or any other fragrance I had tried. Something from my childhood. I closed my eyes for a while and sniffed and sniffed and finally figured it out: It smells like her. The weird Blueberry Muffin doll I had in the 1980's. Which didn't smell like blueberries, btw, and neither does this. But I swear, that's what it smells like to me, that creepy doll, and now it's ruined and I can't wear it, because I have zero desire to smell like that doll. She seriously freaked me out....

    June Gloom 2009

This is very light on me, once dry. It`s almost a little spicy, in a gingery sort of way. It`s fresh and green, a little sweet. It`s so light though, and has zero throw. I am glad I tried it - something about it kept catching my attention, and I wouldn`t have been satisfied until I did try it. But I don`t need to hunt down a bottle. Somewhat thankful for that!

    Leanan Sidhe

Wet: Sweet, aquatic floral. Much sweeter and with more "dew" than I had hoped. I was hoping for more wildflowers and herbs. It's getting a bit soapy too, there something in there that's not great with my skin chemistry. It's quite perfumey as well. Dry: Still a bit too sweet and aquatic for me. Not really getting many herbs, can't pick out individual flowers. It recovered from being soapy though, and I imagine if I enjoyed sweet floral aquatics I would really like this,

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I have a feeling your question should be in this thread, but if so a mod will move it. You could try The Marquis de Carabas from the general catalogue, A splash of bay rum, leather, dusty black wool, massoia bark, and opium residue. or maybe Cyborg Gleaming metal and black leather over a khus-darkened bay rum. Jolly Roger is salty rum and leather Sea spray with an undercurrent of leather, Bay Rum, and salty, dry woods That was all I could find that are leather and bay rum combined. Hope you find something that works for you!

    Dorian

I tried this way back in 2005. My notes from then say, "whoa, dryer sheets". But my tastes and my skin chemistry have changed since then. And this is a BPAL classic, I mean, Beth created it for Puddin, I gotta give it another go. Wet: Wow, that's smelly on me. Something in it smells like pee? WTF, skin, WTF? In the imp it's a lemony tea with vanilla. As it dries more, it does get a lot less weird, the notes I was expecting start to show up. Mostly warm musky tea and vanilla. Which is still a weird combo on me. And yes, past self, it's starting to smell like laundry, you may have been right. Dry: You know, this dries really nice. Tea and vanilla. If I didn't already have Theodosius, which is amazing tea and vanilla bean on me, I might be tempted to get a bottle. As it is, I am keeping the imp, and contemplating getting a Dorian hair gloss from the Post.

    The Queen of Hearts

Lily and cherry are both so iffy on me - lily can smell like wet cardboard, cherry can smell like plastic or cough syrup. But I love all things Alice, and I love the Queen of Hearts, so I am giving it a go anyway. Wet: Cardboard coated in cough syrup. Of course. Why wouldn't it be? Dry: Settles to something much lighter and nicer. Soapy though, and still not something I would wear. There's a sharpness to lily on my skin that I really don't care for.
