Hunting for the ultimate _____ blend
LizziesLuck replied to fatalbellydance's topic in Recommendations
I will stick to the GC, but let me know if you want LE recs too! 1) maybe try Ode on Melancholy Lavender and wisteria, heart-wrenching pale rose, desolate white sandalwood and thin, tear-streaked white musk. Or maybe Pontarlier Swiss ferns, lilac, blackcurrant, Gallic rose and lavender with a dollop of sugar and absinthe. 2) I can't help there, sorry! Though if there is a specific herb you're looking for I may be able to turn something up? 3) Priala, the Human Phoenix from the Carnaval immediately came to mind, gorgeous Myrrh and spice! Three deep, dark myrrhs, smoke, cassia, and cinnamon bark. Maybe Blood as well? Essence of dragon's blood resin, thickened with myrrh and cherry, with a trickle of clove 4) I love Tobacco. Some sweeter faves are: Santo Domingo tobacco leaf, bay rum and heady Caribbean blossoms. Le Lèthè Red musk and sweat-damp golden skin musk with labdanum, golden amber, nutmeg, tobacco absolute, black orchid, and hemlock accord. Elegba coconut, tobacco and sweet, sugared rum. and don't let the woods scare you from trying The Antikythera Mechanism if you haven't, on me it's vanilla tobacco heaven and I love it. Teakwood, oak, black vanilla, and tobacco. Hope you find what you're looking for! -
Woody, maybe some tobacco. I swear there is a hint of the Lab's champagne note in this. I kind of like it. It's a little bit sweet, and almost..."buttery" if that makes sense. Not something I would wear, but I do like the scent and am glad to have gotten to try it!

Wet; Pure spicy sweet carnations. So spicy that they trick my nose into thinking it's smelling cinnamon! That happens to me with Frumious Bandersnatch,so I bet this is the same carnation note as that. Mmm. I love it. When I really sniff and think about what I am smelling, it's not really very cinnamon like, just an olfactory illusion. So far I can see wearing this alone, but also adding it to every carnation blend I have ever sniffed and thought, "wish the carnation was stronger!". Like Brisingamen. Dry: As this dries it gets lighter and sweeter, a bit more subdued in it's spice. Reminds me more of the carnation from Alice now, which is lovely. <3 I have really been enjoying single notes, but it also gives me an even greater appreciation for the magic Beth creates with her blends.

Love (Pickman Gallery) if you can hunt it down, it's for sure the "pinkest" scent I have ever smelled. Plastic Pink Flamingo was pretty darn pink too (TOO PINK for me, it turned out) but it'll be ever harder to find. Some others I haven't seen mentioned: Gobo (pink grapefruit and cream? that's kinda pink) Jiggery Pokery - pink pepper cotton candy with a sliver of orange peel and a hint of vanilla cream. Peony Moon smells very pink to me

Still Life with Peaches, a Silver Goblet, Grapes and Walnuts Hair Gloss
LizziesLuck replied to jolarocknrolla's topic in Hair
Mmm. Smoky clove, juicy peach. Some depth and woodiness from the patch (but not Patchouli heavy at all). I agree with those that found this way sexier than expected. I think I will get good use out of this all year round, it will go nicely with many perfumes. -
This smells so yummy. Its actually making me crave sweets. Chocolate and coconut and vanilla...like a macaroon. So. Good. Villainess's Santa's Revenge smells very similar to me. Mmmm. Seriously, I'm hungry now.

Wet: Mostly Frank and Myrrh, duking it out for dominance. Really, I can't pick out any other notes. It's nice though, being as I like both Frank and Myrrh, but I find them both to be "bully notes" and I always hope to find a more complex scent containing either of them. Dry: The Frankincense won. This has become, essentially, Frankincense single note on me. You're such a bully, Frank.

Wet: Vetiver indeed, and it's sort or a mix between the smoky and vegetal varieties. The neroli presents as chemically orange in this. The sandalwood smells sour - more like cedar when it doesn't work with my skin. All in all, this is really not working with my chemistry. Dry: This actually settles into something not terrible on me. It's not really my taste, but it's quite nice, if you enjoy vetiver. The sandalwood gives it some warmth, the neroli gives it some complexity. If you love vetiver, it's likely worth tracking some of this down.

Wet: Patchouli, Frankincense, Myrrh, almond. Listed notes that my skin often amps, so not surprising. There's something else though that is familiar but I can't place it - might be a particular combo of notes. Interesting and complex, and morphing constantly. It moving towards more of a sour woody smell now. Dry: Interesting. Light, a bit sweet, a bit woody. Hard to pick out notes. Not unpleasant, but not a typical perfume scent that I would wear. Almost a little smoky. Yes, interesting. Glad to have tried it!

Wet: Lemon herbal tea - something in this reminds me a bit of chamomile. It's quite pleasant, and I don't find it chemically at all. Not as sweet as I anticipated, and the lemon is very natural smelling. Dry: Really rather yummy sugary lemon, and the herbals are somewhat tea like. I like this much more than I anticipated, but thankfully not quite enough to feel the need to try to hunt some down. Still, if I really liked lemony scents, I would want to slather in this, it's truly fantastic.

Wet: In the imp, and on wet, this is a millions times too sweet and cloying for me, and that's saying a lot, because I like sweet scents. I have never really been able to pick out ylang ylang before, but I am pretty sure that is what I am smelling. It smells just like a candle I used to have. Maybe the honey is coming across more like beeswax here. It's settling a bit, and I do find it comforting (I so loved that candle!) but it's still too sweet, and not the heady sexy honey and musk I had hoped for. Dry: The ylang ylang disappears, and it's all really sweet honey. It's nice, but there are other honey blends I like better. I had hoped the musk would shine equally, as honey and musk is a combo I adore.

Being a complete whore for coconut, I had to track some of this down. Wet: Like what every coconut lime scent you've ever smelled wants to be This is REAL tangy, slightly bitter lime, squeezed onto fresh coconut. It smells like vacation. It smells like going to the beach. It smells like happiness. This is why I love coconut so much! Dry: Much more lime on me than coconut, but that's ok, I don't have very much lime in my collection, and it's one of the few citrus notes I can wear. This screams summer. Anyone looking for other companies' "coconut lime verbena" type fragrances, this is it, only a million times better, cuz it's BPAL.

Irrelevant and Disturbing Surreal Crawdad Dream

Wet: Tea and blueberry and musk. Hints of ginger. Amazing. Instant love. There's none of the artificialness that sometimes happens on my skin with certain fruit/berry notes. Dry: Gosh I love this. Musk, tea and blueberry. Who would have thought that would be this amazing. It's summery and happy. Really glad I tracked some down! -
I adore all of these notes, though I am not sure specifically about BROWN musk (red, black and white are all faves, blue is ok). In the bottle the rum is strongest, and the way it mixed with the tobacco makes it caramelly and delicious. Wet: Mmm. Sweet, musky goodness. Oh ya, that's good. It smells like sexy drunken debauchery in the very best possible way. Dry: Sweet, warm musk. This turns into something warm and comforting rather than sexy, but I am totally ok with that. It feels like your favourite cozy sweater on a fall day. Love it.

So excited to have gotten my hands on this! Wet: Well red currant is much different than black currant on me, that's for sure. This is super fruity, with an undertone of patch. I am sadly not getting any of the vanilla cream (which had been my hope, it's kind of my favourite thing ever). The fruitiness is settling a bit and it's not quite so in-your-face, but still a lot stronger and more candy-like (and actually somewhat artificial smelling) than I had anticipated. Currant is usually one of my best fruit notes. Dry: Slightly fruity patchouli. I gotta admit, I really misjudged how these notes would work out on me. It's not bad, just not what I had hoped for. I have any number of fruity patchouli blends that I like better. I think I have learned that, though I love black currant, red is not really great on me.

Have you thought about trying to hunt down some Tricksy from the Post? Not sure how hard it is to find, but I think it's been made in bath oil and hair gloss as well as perfume. Patchouli, aquilaria aguillocha, and Manuka honey.
-
Wet: More tea than anything. Which is a little disappointing. This imp was a frimp from the forum though, and may be old. I wonder if the strength of the wasabi diminishes with age? This is just a very pleasant tea and honey scent. Dry: The wasabi never showed up, this is all sweet tea on me. I like tea, but I have other, more complex tea blends I like better.
-
Wet: Lilac and citrus, much sweeter than I would have thought, and something underneath that smells like....meat? Unexpected. Dry: The lilac come out on top, which is great, it's a fave of fine. Hints of citrus and musk, but mostly lovely lilac.
-
Wet: I immediately recognize the Lab's amazing champagne note, which I LOVE. It smells like that mixed with Fuzzy Peaches. Which you would think would be a good thing, but on me so far, it's not. It's quite artificial smelling, and a bit unpleasant. It's fading really quickly. Dry: This ends up smelling like peach soap/shampoo. Which is actually quite pleasant! I don't think I want to smell like it, but I do like the smell and would like my house to smell like it.

Sour woods. bitter greens, and a dark aquatic note. Very masculine and cologney. Not for me, but glad to have gotten to try it!

Wet: Mmm, honey and musk, one of my fave combos. Though it's doing a bit of that weird thing skin musk does on me sometimes where it's a bit citrusy. Not a fan of citrus, so hoping it burns off. This is really sensual though. Dry: Sexy, but not overtly. It's much lighter than expected, mostly skin musk (which thankfully lost most of its citrusy quality) with a bit of honey and lovely, light vanilla flower. It's a very delicate fragrance. I really really like, and will likely slather in it this summer.

I have been searching for the perfect Red Musk....maybe this is it? Wet: Wow. Creamy, sweet, fruity. The red musk is present, but there's also something that smells a bit like creamy root beer, and I am totally digging it. This is really sensual. Mmm. On the edge of gourmand. Love it so far. It's not what I expected, but it's awesome. Dry: The tobacco in this is subdued, and I think the combo of that and the vanilla is giving me this creamy root beer vibe that I am digging so much. The hints of musk keep it from being too foody though. Love it!

Most of these notes are sheer win on me (amber, sandalwood, cardamom, blackberry, vanilla, ti, honey, ginger) some are iffy (bergamot, gardenia, oakmoss) but the jasmine and orange have the potential of turning this into a disgusting mess on me. I am hoping this is complex enough that I can get away with wearing them. Wet: Shit. Citrus. Of course. But then something else peaks through, not sure what, but it's lovely. A combo of ti and honey maybe? Hmmm. Dry: Well, it is very citrusy, but surprisingly it didn't turn to horrid powdered bathroom cleaner on me, as orange almost always does. It's pleasant, but I was really expecting more from this, with all of those killer notes listed. It just smells like a mildly pleasant citrus perfume. No ginger, or honey, or vanilla, or cardamom. Nothing that I hoped. However, if you like bright, warm citrus scents, this is quite nice. I can pick up the amber, which lends sweetness. It's not bad at all, it's just not what I envisioned.

Wet: Very tangy acai berry. It smells artificial on me. I have sniffed the original, but not skin tested it, but it smelled a lot richer to me, maybe due to aging. So far, other than Death Adder, none of the snakes are actually very Snake Oil heavy on me, which is a disappointment, as I adore Snake Oil so much. Dry: I am a little sad. This does nothing for me, in fact, it's kind of bad on my skin. I guess I had never really tried anything with acai in it before, and I don't think it agrees with me. It smells very artificial. Too bad!

2016 (I've never tested the original) Wet: The caramel dominates briefly, then the patchouli takes over, then the tobacco quickly amps way up and stomps all over everybody. It's a sweet, chewy tobacco, made even sweeter by the caramel, and dirtier by the patch. As it's drying, the notes are balancing out, but it's still those three, I can't pick out the currant or lily. I do get hints of warm sandalwood as it's drying, but surprisingly no cinnamon to speak of. Dry: Nothing. For a strong scent, this totally disappears really quickly. It was ok on me while it was drying, but to be honest I wasn't really loving the way the patch and caramel were combining with the Tobacco. Glad to have tried it though!
