    New and Overwhelmed

Sea of glass and white rabbit sound lovely! I was intimidated by sea of glass' abstract description on the bpal site, but clean aquatics are always nice. I like food sweet scents!! Most florals tend to go rancid on me Hi! I love sweet/foodie scents as well, so I'll list a few General Catalogue faves - but I also wanted to say, you should give BPAL florals a try, if you haven't! I used to think I hated florals. Then I tried BPAL florals - now maybe a good quarter f my collection is florals! They won me over. But anyway, here is sweet and foodie! Seconding Eat Me - Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants I find that the fruity currants keep this from being cloying. For more of a fruity type sweet Bewitched blackberry, sage, green tea, wild berries and dark musk Don't let the musk worry you, it's blended in really well and I bet you wouldn't notice it if you didn't know it was there! Dana O'Shee Offerings of milk, honey and sweet grains Sudha Segara Sweet milk and warm, healing ginger with a touch of golden honey and our blend of Ambrosia Elegba coconut, tobacco and sweet, sugared rum. Halfling Porridge, kukui nuts, and pastry crumbs. Welcome to the forum! I hope you find scents that you love! Best advice I can give is to try as much variety as you can so you can narrow down what you love. The forums sales page is a great place to start, you can often get a good deal on a bunch of Imps.

    Bourbon Vanilla Bath Oil

In the bottle, this smelled like nothing, and had me worried. But I just slathered it on as moisturizer before bed, and I am in love! It starts out a sort of woody vanilla, not a foodie vanilla at all. Then, because I amp benzoin, that moves to the forefront, but the vanilla is still very much evident. The combination is divine! I adore it.

    Comparison of Celebrated Beauties

I adore vanilla cream, and have really been "craving" it lately, but the other notes in this are iffy on me, so this could go either way. Wet: Wow, it does this almost effervescent sort of thing - reminds me of cream soda, in a really great way! It's one of those ones that really needs your skin to warm it and make it magical, I think - in the imp it smells like sour milk, but not a hint of that on my skin. Dry: This gets really beautiful for a while - lovely rich vanilla cream which I adore, sweet almond blossom - so pretty! But then it goes kind of dusty, or powdery, on me, the way some of the milk chocolate scents do. Makes me really sad. Glad I got to try this as a decant though, I almost blind-bottled it. I may give it another test another day, just to see if my skin chemistry was off today. ETA: Second test, April 10 - Man this is so beautiful when wet - sweet, creamy, rich. Love. It remains beautiful vanilla cream (which is maybe my all-time favourite note, with hints of sweet almond blossom. I need to do a full day test another day, and if it stays like this again, I need to find a bottle...

    Aspen-Leaves and Fears Hair Gloss

What is there to even say about this? It's exactly as it claims to be - red musk (sexy!) saffron (intriguing and alluring!) and honey (sexy and sweet!). Pretty happy about the whole thing, really.

    The Card Game Hair Gloss

Thank you to the lovely who gifted me some of this to try! I was so hesitant about this because of the iris root - usually ends up smelling like violets on me and just doesn't work. But not the case with this! Not sure if it's because it doesn't come into contact with my skin, so that note doesn't get amped to high heaven, but the iris root is so well behaved in this, you barely notice it's there! When wet, both on my hair, and my shirtsleeve (I always test to make sure it's not going to stain too, because I spray my clothes a lot) it's oudh heavy for maybe 30 seconds, and then the gorgeous dark fruits bloom, and it's just what I wanted! This will go so well with anything that is plum, blueberry, blackberry, or currant dominant (of which I have quite a few) .It's also beautiful on it's own I think I am getting distinct hints of blueberry, but there are other fruits there too, not quite sure which ones. Either way, it's dark, a touch floral and woody, but mostly fruity. I am totally buying a bottle and will wear the heck out of it this summer.

    Bensiabel

I am fully aware that this could be terrible on me - plum can go either way. Usually when its listed as wild plum it works much better for me (as in Mme. Moriarty, Frumious Bandersnatch, Black Moths). Who knows what plum juice will be like, or the "herbs"? Still, love trying everything I can! Wet: Interesting. I can detect the lilac, and the plum is almost recognizable as "juice" rather than fruit - it's really concentrated. I like it so far! But the herbs smell more like spices to me, very fragrant, but not green like I had expected. This is quite strong and heady. Hasn't turned to plastic yet. so off to a good start! Dry: A nice, dark, fruity floral. I quite like it, but do feel like I have similar things in my collection. I am undecided about whether I need a bottle of this in my life, but I do really like it. Glad the plum worked!

    Fallen

There are so many notes in this that are lovely on me...but initially all I get is violet, which doesn't agree with me. It's soapy, and acrid, with faint nutty undertones from the vetiver (I love this smoky vetiver note in the right blend, but not here). O_o this is so not good on me - smells like charred violet candy. Sadly I think I have to wash this off before it even gets to dry, violet causes headaches sometimes for me, and I think that's what's going to happen here. Still, glad I tried it!

    Apple IV

Sadly, I am discovering that apple scents are just not for me...and I have to be careful with clove too. This starts out apple single note, and dries to clove single note. It also burned my skin, which I have never experiences before, and I have tons of oils with cinnamon and other spices. I think Apple IV and I were just not meant to be.

Itasô Kansei Nenkan Jorô No Fûzoku

I got this Salon imp thrown in with my recent Trading Post order - thanks Puddin and Goblins! Wet: Wow, what a lovely sugary white floral! Soft and feminine and pretty. Not much throw though, and it's already fading. I can vaguely pick out the ti leaf, but I think I am mostly smelling the hibiscus and sugar/honey. The honey note in it isn't strong, it's just adding to the overall sweetness. Dry: This is so pretty, and I so love sugary florals. But I do have a lot of them already, and the throw on this isn't great on me, and considering how difficult it would likely be to track down a bottle, I think I will pass this lovely frimp on to someone who might truly adore it

    Pumpkin Patch II (2005, 2006)

Not sure which year this is, it's not marked. Wet: The Lab's distinctive pumpkin note is strongest - it always smells a bit "peachy" to me. I'm also picking up the nuts, but not the cocoa. Oh wait, maybe a bit of the cocoa comes through. It's nice, but the pumpkin note doesn't do much for me, it never seems to mesh well with my skin chemistry. Dry: The same, not a morpher on me. It's pleasant, but not something I would wear. It was frimped to me, so I will frimp it to the next person! Always glad to have gotten to try something I otherwise wouldn't have!

    Metis

I received a frimp of this, which is great because I was curious but wouldn't have gone out of my way to track it down. I always love trying the lunacies, even though it seems few of them work for me, for whatever reason (the Harvest Moons being the exception) Wet: Wow, so much minty pine. I know mint isn't listed, but I am getting mint (to my nose). It's really fresh smelling. Sappy. Not really my cup of tea, but really interesting. As it's drying it reminds me a bit of Buckley's cough syrup - it makes my eyes water a bit, and kind of clears my sinuses, but it's not altogether unpleasant, just not my personal tastes. I can appreciate it for what it is. Dry: The same - still quite minty on me, it tickles my nose a bit. Not for me, but I am glad to have tried it!

    Yule

Testing 2010: Wet: Berries - sweet and tart at the same time. The rest is all kind if indistinguishable, but it smells like Christmas, that's for sure! I think some of the juniper is coming through. Dry: This is really not my kind of scent at all, to wear as perfume, but it would be amazing around the holidays as a room scent! Just gorgeous. The berries, and greens, and juniper - faint hints of florals. It really smells like the holidays.

    The Lady On The Grey

Wet: Tobacco flower, overtop of sweet amber. A really interesting combination. It`s not very strong on me, considering those notes generally have much more throw. Dry: This could be tobacco flower single note on me. I do tend to amp it in some things. It`s really lovely, but goes a tad soapy on me. I will be keeping my decant for sentimental reasons (I love the book so much!) but I don`t think I need to try to hunt down a bottle (which is kind of a relief, really!)

    Arachne

This is such an ethereal scent on me - a bit of sweetness, a bit of nostalgia, a bit of melancholy. It`s hard to describe, but I get some hints of something fruity, like plum, and some soft white florals, some woods, and some other notes I can`t pin down. I like it a lot, but can`t imagine wearing it, so I think I will try to find it a home with someone who will love it.

    Villain

Wet: This instantly smells like the bathroom in my grandparents' old house, which smelled like my grandpa's soap, which I always loved. There is something so classic and clean about this smell. I know right away that I don't want to smell like this though, though the nostalgia is nice, it ultimately makes me sad. Dry: Not much of a morpher, still smells like Grandpa's soap. I love that scent, but ultimately I just don't want to smell like it and be sad all day. It was nice to smell it one last time, but I won't be opening this imp again. It never ceases to amaze me, the powerful emotions that scent can conjure up. It's one of the things I love so much about BPAL. And if I really think about it, it is somehow comforting to know that that particular smell still exists in the world.

    The Night-Raven

All of these notes are good for me except jasmine, which I generally amp horribly and am simply not fond of, nor does it smell nice on my chemistry. Trying this anyway though! Wet: Mmm, rich, earthy, woody patchouli. This is a really smooth, dry patchouli, not the gnarly chewy kind. It's nice with the sweetness of the benzoin and plum. The rose geranium is lovely, and miraculously, I don't smell any jasmine yet. Dry: This is quite the morpher on me! The middle stage is almost entirely rose geranium, which has a slight citrus sort of edge, the way rose sometimes does. After about 45 mins this is mostly benzoin, which I like a lot, but I have other benzoin scents that I like as well or better. Overall though, I am REALLY glad I tried this, as I avoid jasmine like the plague, and not once did I smell jasmine in this. Which means there may be other blends I avoided because of jasmine that have a chance of working on me after all!

    The Contrast

I was lucky enough to get to test this at a Meet N' Sniff, and I remember loving it, but it was gone in minutes. I was slathered in other things though that it was a hard to get a good read or know if it would disappear so quickly under normal circumstances. Now I've been luck enough to receive a frimp of this in a swap, so I am testing it again and hoping it lasts a bit longer! Wet: The Frank and benzoin blend seamlessly together. This is bright, sweet and rich. Almost sparkling, in that way that Frank has sometimes. I love both of these notes, so it's really no surprise that I love this. But it does seem to get a little fainter every time I sniff my arm. Dry: It doesn't quite disappear. And what is lingering is lovely. But it's just not strong enough for me to justify hunting down a bottle, when I feel like I would have to reapply every hour.

A Mirror of Spring Pleasures on Kites (2016)

This collection of notes could really go either way with my skin chemistry, but I am hopeful! Wet: This leads with strawberry on me, which skips plastic and goes straight to cough medicine, maybe due to the addition of blackberry wine (the blackberry part of which was what sold me on this, even knowing I can hardly ever pull off wine). As it dries though, it gets much less artificial smelling on me, and the vanilla frankincense creeps in, somehow smelling a bit like flaky pastry...yum! Dry: This is all over the place - I'll sniff it, it'll smell like plastic. Then I'll sniff again - a nice fruity floral. The gardenia in this is really nice, and I am getting some lovely blackberry, but the wine and strawberry have turned to plastic on me, sadly.

    The Initiation

I love these notes soooo much - except for the wine which tends to amp and ruin everything it's in for me. Still, I had to try this based on the other notes, and who knows, maybe it will be the one wine blend I can wear? Wet: Lots of wine, for sure, but it's like peach wine, and it's quickly overtaken by the most amazing, almost nutty (from the coconut?) caramel with hints of tobacco. This. Is. So. Good. Dry: The wine comes back, in full force, and turns into plastic. Makes me really sad, because there is a phase as it dries that it absolutely beautiful on me, all caramel and coconut and tobacco (but in a totally different way than Red Lantern). But I knew the wine could ruin it for me, and it did - it just doesn't work on my skin! But for others that don't have that issue, I bet this is absolutely gorgeous.

    Round Dance

I really love all of these notes individually, though strawberry candyfloss will likely have potential to go plastic on me. Still, this sounds so interesting and I am really excited to try it! Wet: A blast of lavender, with some sweet fruitiness as well. It's a bit bitter on me at first, I think that might be the hay, but it's hard to say, it could be the really herbal lavender. I just got a whiff from my wrist that smelled like hot dogs....that's a new one for me. Ya, nose to wrist it's all lavender, but the throw smells like hot dogs. Dry: Overwhelmingly of hot dogs. I really don't understand it. All of these notes are familiar to me. They are all great with my skin chemistry except strawberry, but the worst that has ever happened with that is turning plastic. Somehow this combination with my skin chemistry has turned smoky and salty, and really like a hot dog. I may test it again another day, in case my skin chemistry is just off today, as it certainly doesn't smell like that in the imp. But right now it's pretty icky and I am going to have to wash it off (I've endured smelling like a hot dog for an hour, hoping it would morph).

    Daruma Doll

I will admit to being concerned about the orange rind in this - citrus is so iffy on me. But I had to try this anyway because red musk! Wet: Wow, this is lovely and compelling and really well blended and I like it the instant it's on. There is a lot of orange to it, but it's not yet turned to awful powdered orange cleaner as it sometimes does. The rose is coming through, a very sweet rose. This whole blend has a very sweet, thick, almost syrupy vibe to it. I like it! Dry: The sweetness in this amps to high heaven as it dries, and it becomes a bit sickly on me (I think the almond is the issue?). The red musk is not dominant as I had hoped, and the orange, though it has faded to the background, has gotten rather powdery. I think there is potential for this to be amazing on someone else's skin!

    Phoenix and Dragon

This was not originally the decant I had intended to get - my Decantress had to cut the one I wanted, and so I picked another one from the scents that still had openings in the circle. Sometimes whim purchases work out really well for me, other times not so much. But here goes! Wet: Very smoky. Woody. A bit sweet, but also a bit acrid. I think it's the blackened oudh that I am really not enjoying here. The aged patchouli and vanilla underneath though are lovely. but that black smoky oudh sort of lays overtop of everything and just is not good on me. Dry: This dries down to a smoky, expensive smelling cologne on me. It might be really nice on a man, but it's not working for me.
  23. LizziesLuck

    The Balcony

I've been looking for a really good patchouli and rose combo, so I had to give this a shot. Wet: The patchouli vetiver combo in this is lovely - sweet, woody, smoky, without that sourness that vetiver sometimes leads with. The honey sweetens it nicely, but I am not getting any of the rose yet. Dry: This doesn't last long on me, despite reapplying several times. It never turned into the rose/patch combo I had hoped for, unfortunately this scent doesn't seem meant for my skin. It's mostly vetiver on me, which my skin sometimes eats, so then I'm left with mostly nothing....I am going to retest another day though and hope for a better result, as I see others did find it to be patchouli and rose.
  24. LizziesLuck

    Joyful Dalliances in the Underworld

Wet: The dried apricot is at the forefront on me, and it's so good, sweet and sticky. The smokiness of the vetiver goes so well with it. The cherry cognac adds more depth to the overall sweetness. I quite like this. It's a very down-and-dirty apricot, more in the vein of Depraved than Pandy or Aristocratic Couple. Dry: This doesn't morph a whole lot on me. It's a dark, boozey, chewy, fruity scent, and I am really liking it. Not a lot of throw on me though, and it's gotten quite faint. I think I will need to do a full day test, but I am so glad I tried it, even though I was scared of the leather, which is super iffy on me. I never detected the leather in this, or the vetiver, or the pepper even. It's all sweet boozey fruit, almost jam-like, and if it stands up to a full-day test, I may need a bottle.
  25. LizziesLuck

    Bunraku Theater

Wet: Rich, buttery pumpkin (but without the spices I usually associate with anything pumpkin). Quite sweet. The hay and beeswax mixed in make this so so unique, a little perfumey instead of straight up foodie, and pretty much just gorgeous. So far it's not morphing much. I am just getting hints of tobacco, which is exciting, since I love it so. These notes are amazing together, and it's so well blended. Dry: Warm, golden, late summer fields - that's what this evokes. It's sweet and warm and lovely. Difficult to pick out individual notes. It's quite unique, feminine and delicate. I like it a lot, and am considering upgrading to a bottle.
