Beanman and Beanwoman Climb Genital Mountains
LizziesLuck replied to radiantfracture's topic in Lupercalia
This does not seem like "my type of thing" but something about it called to me anyway, plus, the name!! So I grabbed a decant. Wet: Wow, so nutty and rich. Really different! Smoky, for sure. The vetiver is REALLY strong in the imp, but my skin chemistry eats it almost instantly, leaving me with rich nuttiness, and hints of smoke. It umm, kinda smells like peanut butter, if peanut butter were dark and sexy and a little smoky. This is really very foodie on me, actually. Sweet and rich. I feel like it's morphing constantly though. Interested to see what it dries down to! Dry: This was so promising, but after about 40 minutes, it goes really wonky on me - kind of smells like rotten vegetables, and charcoal. I'm sad that my skin chemistry ruined this, because it was amazing and unique in the beginning. Really glad to have gotten to try it! -
There's a thread on Fruity Florals here - I imagine a mod will probably merge the topics My favourite General Catalogue fruity florals are: Delirium apple, rose, and lemon Tamora Amber, heliotrope, golden sandalwood, peach blossom and vanilla bean Queen Alice (the cider and wine in this makes it really fruity on me) Carnation, posies, and white amber with a hint of inky treacle, sandy cider, and wooly wine Pandy Fresh white musk, honeycomb, sweet apricot, elemi, orange blossom, and mischievous pink pepper. Lady Lucille Sharpe faded red roses and a glimmer of garnet with black lily, ylang ylang, smoky plum musk, and black amber. Mad Kate (The Salon, available at Pretty Indulgent) Honeycomb, red currant, freesia, vanilla, rose geranium, thyme, and gardenia.

I have to admit, I would have gotten this for the name alone, even if the listed notes hadn't been ones I really liked. As it is, these notes are all ones that I like and generally have good luck with. Wet: To my nose, the Lab has more than one Dragon's Blood note. This is what I consider to be the "floral" one. It's very sweet, a bit heady, and almost bubblegummy, but that could be psychological because the colour of the oil is a sort of bubblegum pink. It settles fairly quickly though and it's a really rich floral Dragon's Blood. Sadly not picking up much of the other notes, though I do like it. Dry: Still all floral Dragon's Blood. It's really pleasant, but not very unique on my skin chemistry. I was hoping for more of the cream and honey to come through.

Wet: Wow. That caramelized patch note is really something!! Sweet, smoky. Chewy. Pretty incredible. It's dominating the other notes, but I like it so much I don't care. Dry: Mostly fig. Not surprising, I amp fig. And that's great, I love fig. But I was really loving that caramelized patchouli note, and I wish it had stuck around. Unfortunately, what had made this truly unique and stunning has faded away, leaving just a pleasant, slightly woody fig.
-
Wet: Dark, woody, a little spicy. Sexy. The musk in this is sweet and heady. There's something almost resinous about it. I am loving it so far. It's hovering just on the edge of masculine on me. Dry: This is really good. The musk goes a bit powdery, but in a way that I like. It's very dark and rich. I do like it a lot, but am having a hard time imagining wearing it. I would love to smell it on a guy too, I think it's fairly unisex.

Wet: This goes on with a blast of greenish apple, and then quickly turns to a very bitter floral. The bitterness is fading, and some of the sour apple is coming back. Was hoping for some lily of the valley and fig, but this smells really weird on me so far. Dry: This turns into a pleasant fruity floral. It's nice, but not wowing me. I think it would be better on someone else's skin chemistry. It's a nice light summery scent though.

So I actually switched over to my Spring collection today! (other than the handful of perfumes I wear year round, my collection is organized by season) and I wanted to add a few more spring faves that I forgot about! Mother Ghost (this will be a fave this spring, I am sure!) a cold, sheer white musk gleaming with black orchid, benzoin, labdanum, and blackened amber, and embraced by white rose, tea leaf, and vanilla flower. Nonae Caprotina goat’s milk, ripe fig, and a hint of sweet myrrh. Boo (I think it's the cotton in this that makes it a spring scent for me) Eerie billows of spun sugar, fluttering white cotton, and sheets of cream. Body, Remember Profoundly sensual. The echo of caresses: raw black coconut, ambergris accord, ambrette seed, champaca flower, and sugar cane. The Turkish Village Thick Turkish coffee, cardamom pods, Damascene roses, and buhur. Southern Cloudywing Cardamom tea, orange peel, mate, oakmoss, tonka bean, sweet cedar, and costus. Eusapia Pale lilacs, white tea, and candle wax.

Wet: OMG this is amazing. I don't know where this citrus is coming from, but it is citrus (like Satsuma) mixed with coconut and honey, and it's fabulous. Sadly, I think it's morphing already, and some green is coming out. Which is lovely. I just wanted it to stay exactly as it was. Dry: Lighter than it originally was, but lovely. This smells like summer. A tiny bit floral, a tiny bit green, The orange blossom is actually detectable in the honey. But mostly this is fruity/citrusy coconut, bright and frothy. I love it, and will be using it a lot this summer!

When Carnival Noir first appeared, I did not know I loved Snake Oil. Back then, I thought it didn't work on me (my tastes and chemistry both have changed since then). So I passed this up, because I figured it would be the same. Years later, I am in love with Snake Oil, and set out to hunt me down some Snake Charmer too. This is Snake Charmer Res, from 2011 Wet: Like Snake Oil, with fruit. Mmm! It reminds me of a cross between Snake Oil and Mme. Moriarty. That's not a bad things at all. I'll be honest, I am a coconut fiend, and was hoping to smell the coconut in this, and I do. It's like the warm, dark, husky coconut from Tiki King. This is dark and sexy, and gorgeously blended (and aged!). I can't stop huffing my arm. Wow this is good. Dry: Amazing. Not a ton of coconut, once dry, but I can live with that, since this is sooo gorgeous. It does remind me of Snake Oil mixed with Mme. Moriarty. There's that sugared vanilla, patch, musk, can't quite put my finger on it vibe, plus the dark fruit of Mme. This is amazing, and I am so happy to have it. If The Lab decides to take pity on all those who love it, and re-release it, say with the Snake Pit scents from CD when they come back around, I would be a happy camper and buy a back-up (and I rarely buy back-ups).

I've always been able to track my package all the way to delivery (though Canada Post is notoriously bad for scanning the package in regularly). It must work differently depending on country.

Ginger scents & the different types of ginger notes
LizziesLuck replied to Lorna Brigid's topic in Recommendations
I wore Gingered Chocolate Soufflé today! It has the most amazing candied ginger note. I am a ginger fiend! Since the ginger thread got bumped anyway, I might as well throw in my other recs: Eau de Ghoul Dessicated skin coated in blackened ginger, cinnamon, and mold-flecked dirt, with cumin, bitter clove, leather, and dried blood. Vespertilio Proterus Warm golden ginger, wild fig, and vanilla cream spiced with saffron, limu amani, nutmeg, coriander, and angelica. Sudha Segara (I'm sure it's been recommended before) Sweet milk and warm, healing ginger with a touch of golden honey and our blend of Ambrosia Those are just a few of my other ginger faves. -
I recently became obsessed with the scent of Earl Grey. It's not in many blends, so I immediately set out to hunt down whatever I could, containing that note. I was lucky enough to swap for an imp of Severin. Wet: Mmm. Very heavy on the Earl Grey, light on the leather, just as I had hoped. The whole scent is very faint on me though. The faint leather I do get reminds me of the black leather note in Whip. I am having a hard time smelling anything though, make me wonder if tea scents don't age the best. Dry: This lasts longer than I anticipated, and grows stronger as it warms longer on my skin. It's mostly slightly floral Earl Gray tea. It's really lovely, but I don't think I will need to track down more (thank goodness!) the decant will do me.

I adore The Graveyard Book, and am excited to be getting to try this. Thanks to the lovely forumite who sent it to me as a frimp. Wet: The snow note in this is strongest, and beautiful. It immediately reminds me of the bright, clean snow note in Mat Night, which I adore. But upon further sniffing, I get some mint and pine from this snow note. I am not getting any of the florals yet. This is a cold, beautiful scent. It reminds me of a clear, still, cold winter night, with lots of stars. I don't usually much care for this type of scent, especially the pine, but there's something about this that I love. Dry: This is really nice, and on dry-down it does remind me a lot of Mat Night, both are predominantly that bright, clean snow note on me. I am so glad to have a decant of this, but I won't feel the need to track down a bottle.

Unfortunately, USPS raised their rates this year (again!) and $30+ is the price of a Priority package. The Lab ships Priority because it's the only international option with tracking/insurance, unlike the cheaper but more unreliable First Class. But yeah, it's horribly pricey... Yes it is, even to Canada. But there's nothing the Lab can do about it, unfortunately. Group ordering whenever possible is really the only way for us to save. They can't compromise on tracking/insurance to save us a few dollars, in case something happens to the package. They're not making money on shipping, just charging us what they have to pay to get our packages to us. I know, it sucks.

I am so in love with this scent. I love BPAL's coffee scents, for the most part (Misk U is disastrous on me though) but this is by far my favourite of the ones I have. This is sweet, creamy, STRONG coffee, with just a hint of pastry. It lasts well on me, and has good throw. It's heavenly, the perfect coffee scent, especially for those that are looking for a more pure coffee scent, without spices or vanilla or many other notes.

This was not even on my radar, but I am so happy and grateful I was able to swap for a bottle! This is perfection. I love how Beth can make "fizziness" a smell. Magical! This is sweet, a bit creamy, fruity, and effervescent. For once, the strawberry doesn't go to plastic on me. The effervescence keeps this from being TOO sweet and cloying on me. I am going to cherish this bottle and thoroughly enjoy wearing it in the summer. A perfect summer scent! Fun, girly, mostly innocent, but just a hint of naughty.

I adore saffron, especially with vanilla, so I am so excited to have gotten my hands on this! Wet: The amber is sweet and sensual, the vanilla and saffron, combined with the florals (man I love freesia, why do we see it so seldom?) are lovely. It's very light though, not as strong as I was hoping. Dry: It really takes this a while to settle on me (that could just be my skin, today) But once it does, it's beautiful. In my head, this was going to be primarily amber and saffron and vanilla, those are the notes I amp. Instead, it's the most lovely freesia, backed by those other notes. I had forgotten how much I love freesia, and it's not dominant in anything else that I own, so I am really happy with how this turned out.

I am in love with Volcano in Springtime, vanilla sandalwood heaven.

Bright Red Dildo from this year's Lupers is red musk, leather, and honey. Along the same lines, Eldritch Dark is sugared roses (I believe you like sugared florals, too, if I recall correctly), leather, red musk, black musk, and honey. I like Dildo but Eldritch Dark is on a whole other level. I loooove it and would recommend it highly based on your love of honey and red musk. I don't often get along with black musk but find it's not overt at all in Eldritch. Agree with sprout that Smut may be right up your alley as well. I have issues with leather. it hates me, accept for black leather, like the note in Whip. I was so excited to try Eldritch Dark (because I DO love sugared florals, esp. roses) but it was all horrid chemicals on me. The booze in Smut hates me also, I can't wear it either (smells amazing in the bottle though!) I am so tempted to try Red Dildo! But scared of the leather. What's a girl to do?

Ooh, I hadn't thought of A Rosy Colour, I may have to track some down, I've seen a few floating around the forum. Just tried Hollywood Babylon, someone kindly frimped it to me, so I just got it today. This is what I wanted the Instructional Manual to be...sexy red musk with hints of creamy strawberry. I adore red musk and it usually amps on me in a good way, that gets me a lot of compliments. In addition to the ones listed above, I would add: Krampus - Sinister red musk, black leather, dusty rags, and wooden switches. I get a ton of red musk from it myself. I didn't order this year's, but I don't think there is a lot of variation from year to year. Mircalla, Countess Karstein - Languid, melancholy fire: red musk, purple orchid, frankincense, smoky vanilla, Styrian herbs, peru balsam, tonka, Zanzibar clove, and patchouli. This is such a favorite of mine that I have a few backups. There is currently a bottle available on the Lab's Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/157217140/mircalla-countess-karnstein-5ml-black Ooh, I may have to try Mircalla! I'm a fan of most of those notes. Any idea what the "herbs" are? I'll have to check out the review thread. Thanks for the rec! I got a decant of this year's Krampus. I kept it because I really liked it, but feel like it's a little masculine on me. I may have to retest it. ETA: scored a bottle of The Elephantine Colossus, can't wait to try it!

As far as Planting Moon, check out the forum sales/swaps section. It's pretty rare though, when I did a search for it I didn't come up with much. Sorry, that's likely not very helpful...

This is really pretty. Sweet, floral, girly. There's something almost fruity about it. This type of scent never works on my skin, but its lovely sprayed on my pillow! The cherry blossom in this is truly lovely without my skin chemistry turning it to burning plastic.

I have wanted to try this forever, and it has eluded me. So grateful someone kindly frimped it to me! Wet: Dirt. And cookies! Wow. Foodie, vanilla, spicy, dirt. Wonderful. Dry: This fades quite a bit as it dries. The hints of spice remain, and the earthiness, but I liked it better wet. Some of that foodiness remains as well. I do like this a lot, but am not sure if I need a bottle. It actually reminds me a bit of Eau de Ghoul (same sort of feel) which I already have, so I'm not sure I need this in my collection as well. So glad I finally got to try it though!

Wet: Fruity, syrupy, red musk. Mmm. Hoping the sweetness dies down just a touch though. Dry: Really really good. I amp red musk, and I like sweetness with my red musk, so this really does it for me. Primarily red musk, a little fruity, sweet, a little creamy. Fabulous. I see a bottle of this in my future.
