    Beautiful Death

Wet: I get a lot of fruitiness from the berries, initially, which smell a lot like red currant to my nose. There's also a hint of floral to this that may be coming from the chamomile. After a second though, the tobacco comes forward, and boy is it good. It's overlaid with creamy vanilla, and I cannot stop huffing my wrist. My instinct is to immediately slather myself in this. Must. Hold. Back. I would wager that the tobacco in this is the same as SN French Tobacco. Eyes rolling back in your head, good. Dry: The tobacco, berries and vanilla all come into a beautiful balance. This is so very lovely. One of the lighter tobacco blends I have. The addition of berries brightens it up, and makes me feel like this will make a great summer tobacco scent.

    Sanctus

I love all of these notes alone, so I have high hopes for this! Wet: The Lily s most prominent at first. There's an almost fruity quality to this. It's a little dusty on me, somehow, as well. Really interesting. It smells almost tropical to me! Dry: This didn't last very long on me. I think it will need another test, it's fresh out of the mail and my skin was a bit dry and sucked it up. It wasn't what I was expecting though. It turned out to be a dry, dusty, yet bright golden floral. It was pretty, but gone so quickly!

    Milk and Cream Notes

Oooh, let's see: (First off, agreed that Love's Philosophy is obsession worthy, and Volcano in Springtime is pretty awesome too, as is Giljagaur) I'll add to the list: Départ Pour Le Sabbat Bourbon vanilla, sweet red patchouli, oudh, goat’s milk accord, and white honey. I'm assuming goat's milk counts?? Adrastea Goat’s milk accord, white honey, cacao-dusted amber, white coconut, white rose, and benzoin Those have been the standouts for me, recently, but Love's Philosophy totally takes the cake.

    What's the best coconut blend?

I can't wait either! I've been dying to try it, it took me a while to hunt some down. When it was originally released I had such different tastes, I totally turned my nose up at it. Also, how did I forget about Spooky? I have the original, and I adore it. Boozey coconut and mint, so yummy and refreshing in the summer. I had kind of forgotten about Shoggoth too, it's on my "do a full day test and possibly get a bottle for summer" list. You should dig up that Tiki King, it is SEXAY if you ask me! I bet it smells great on a man too, but it's not so masculine that I can't wear it.

    Ambergris

I am in love with A Specific Aberration as well, and also assumed it was the ambergris I was loving so much because it's not frank I'm smelling, or a floral note. So of course, I immediately start trying other things with ambergris, and none of them seem to have that same note.

    Red Musk

Necrobump! I've recently fallen madly in love with red musk. Currently my favourite is Now Winter Nights Enlarge - I love the combo with caramel and honey. I think I like sweeter blends containing red musk. I have Mme. Moriarty as well, but she's mostly currant and patch on me. I am trying to track down The Elephantine Colossus, because it sounds like exactly everything I love. Any other recent recs for me? I've tried most of the GC blends with red musk, though Hollywood Babylon is still on my list. Love Snake Oil, but it's not musk heavy on me. If anyone has any LE recs from the past few years that may still be possible to track down, I'd be grateful!

    What's the best coconut blend?

I almost snagged a decant of this (because coconut) but didn't due to iris/orris because those notes don't work on me. I still may get one to try. Since my previous posts looking for the perfect coconut, I have actually found it! Here's my list of favourite coconut blends (I tracked down quite a few, thanks to these recs and others) Paper Kite - by far the most pure, beachy coconut on me, without smelling like suntan lotion Death Cap - who the heck would have thought that would end up smelling like coconut? But it does, on me at least. A really warm, nutty coconut. Very earthy. Tiki King - a dark, sexy, musky coconut Lovers and a Fan - This ends up being a very boozey smelling tropical coconut on me. Love it! Body, Remember - a floral coconut on me, sweet and heady Ivory Vulva - coconut cookies! On me at least. My "winter coconut" Giljagaur - coconut cream and cinnamon, such a great combo! This is my "fall coconut" Snow White (mine is 2015) - frozen coconut water and soft florals is what this smells like on me I have a bottle of Snake Charmer on the way, and a sniffie of Death Adder, and I try everything with coconut that I can get my hands on. I may be a wee bit obsessed...

    Brisingamen

Wet: Amber, and a very pretty, sweet floral. I instantly really like this, but also wonder if it's a tad too sweet to be wearable. Does it ever remind me of something! But what? Dry: The sweetness dies down a bit, and it becomes very wearable. I love it! I figured out what it reminds me of - Lush's Potion/Ruby Red Slippers without the carnation. It's feminine and pretty. This is one of those scents that is so much more than the sum of it's parts - I would be hard pressed to pick out individual notes if I didn't know what was in it. The floral notes are lovely, backed by the sweetness of the amber. I think I will likely need a bottle of this at some point. This will be a beautiful summer floral, and it's a bit heavier and has a bit more substance than the florals I prefer for spring.

    Black Phoenix

I tried this way back when I first started collecting in 2005. I didn't care for it. But I have recently retried a number of things I didn't like or didn't work with my chemistry way back then and found that I love and can wear them now, so I thought this was worth a retest too. Wet: Super strong cherry/almond. There's a floral underneath that I think is rose, and it's doing that citrusy thing rose sometimes does. An interesting combo! But it's going quite soapy already. Dry: This dries down to straight-up red rose on me. Which is not that odd, considering I amp rose to high heaven. I certainly don't dislike it at all, however I have A LOT of rose in my collection already, and don't feel this is "different" enough to need a bottle. Really glad to have retried it though! Shows how much my skin chemistry has changed, as my notes from ten years ago indicate this smelled like "fake cherry" on me at the time.

    The Trackless Erg

I'm not getting any similarities to Morocco. This smells sweet and very cologney to me...copal, maybe? Not getting anything floral or spicy, its more resinous to me. I like it! But it does smell quite masculine to me. Interesting!

    Summer Lace

So excited to try this that I haven't let it settle from the mail at all! The only iffy note in this is the mandarin, it's terrible with my skin chemistry (sadly, because I love the smell of citrus) and could ruin this for me. Fingers crossed! This smells amazing in the bottle, but I do get a lot of citrus, which worries me. Wet: Sweet citrus. Lovely so far. I think I get hints of the cognac. Bits of floral. Not much else, but it's so so fresh and feminine and pretty, just praying my skin chemistry doesn't murder it. So far so good though. Dry: I'm amazed, a citrus I can wear, finally! It's creamy, and well grounded, and has some of the "Lace" feel to it. But it's mostly a sweet, sparkly citrus with creamy vanilla. So unexpected and lovely, and I can't wait to wear it in the summer. Good lasting power too! If you're like me, and all citrus immediately turns to powdered citrus cleaner or stale pez on you, you may wish to hunt some of this down and give it a go!

    Sanguinem Menstruum

This is so fresh out of the mail I barely let it come to room temp, but I am so excited to try it that I can't wait! Wet: I think I'm getting Dragon's Blood and red musk mixed together...but it's not quite red musk? But similar. There's a floral note which I have to assume is the poppy - I've only tried it in one other scent, so not a great frame of reference. There's a sweetness for sure, and I think it's honey rather than beeswax, to my nose. Loving it so far! It's dark and sweet and a little bit sinister. There is a dark, earthy. almost chocolatey quality that comes out as this dries. So intriguing! Dry: Man this smells good! It's really rich and resinous, and I do feel the blood musk has an element of Dragon's Blood to it. It's not as strong as red musk usually is on me, but the musk it for sure there. I'm getting a really rich honey too. Not much of the floral, just sort of a vague dustiness (which sounds weird, but it's really pleasant) which I think is the poppy. Overall, I love this. So much depth and richness, and just the right amount of sweetness. Nothing salty or coppery, which I was a little worried about. It's kind of sensual, actually. I am so glad to own a bottle! Thanks again to my lovely fairy!

    Whip Hair Gloss

I'm shocked I forgot to review this! I adore Whip, and the hair gloss is totally true to the perfume on me. This is the perfect balance between red rose and leather (and a leather note I can wear, no less!) This is the sexiest rose ever. Whip, indeed! Love it.

How long do bottles & imps last?

I have a bottle of the 2005 sugar cookie, and it's still AMAZING. I'm thinking that seller was a giant butt. I had a bottle of Sugar Cookie 2005 as well. I loved it, but my skin chemistry changed over the years and I ended up having to swap it. I did test it once last time before swapping it (that was several months ago) and it smelled amazing in the bottle, and amazing on my skin for a few seconds before my chemistry ruined it. So I, too, think that seller may have done something to the oil. I have a lot of BPAL from 2005-2008 (some foodie like Midway and my Monster Baits) and not a single one has ever gone "off" on me. I really do think the secret is keeping them in the dark and making sure they don't get too crazy hot (that's never a problem in Canada). Really sorry to hear you had that experience! Who does that to a BPAL???

    Garden Path With Chickens

I was lucky enough to receive an actual Lap Imp of this as a frimp from the Trading Post! Thanks, Puddin and Goblins! Wet: Gorgeous floral notes (not sure which ones, to be honest), something a little peppery and nose tickley (but enjoyable!), warm green notes. Really nice. I love these type of florals - it feels like summer. Dry: Very faint, but still lovely. There are lots of nice grass notes in with the florals. I'm really glad to have gotten to try it.

    Fae Forest Atmosphere Spray

I got a Goblin Squirt of this free from the Post, thanks Goblins! This smells like...a forest! A pine forest, for sure. It's pretty much all pine, all the time, to my nose. Nice! I doubt I will use it much, but occasionally when I want my house to smell like a tree, I will pull it out!

    Sugar Plum Fairy v3

I don't have the released version to compare this to. I got this off the Lab's Etsy, for sentimental reasons (My Grandfather took me to see the Nutcracker as a child, and called me "Sugar Plum" ever after. He was my hero) Wet: Sweet and fruity. Candy-like. Almost hints of spice? Uh oh, it's trying to go plastic on me. Somehow I hadn't even considered that this could be terrible on me, the way a lot of plum notes are. Dry: Thank goodness, this didn't actually go to plastic on me. It's a nice, spicy fruity, slightly creamy candy scent. To be honest, I don't *love* the scent, I just like it, but I am really glad to have it for sentimentality. ETA: After tracking down some of the released version, I found that I liked it much better than the prototype, it was less sweet candy and more feminine perfumey, if that makes sense. Glad to have been lucky enough to try both!

El Dia de los Reyes Hair Gloss

I love El Dia perfume (mine is 2013) ad am really happy this won the poll! My El Dia perfume is chocolate and cinnamon on me. This smells identical to the perfume on me. Really dry chocolate, followed by cinnamon and sugar. I don't get the coffee in it, but I never have in the perfume either. I love this and can't wait to wear it with the perfume, but it will also pair nicely with Gelt I think, and Muddy Puddles, and probably lots of other chocolate scents too!

    Fluttering Peonies Bath Oil

Used as a moisturizer, not in the bath. Oh wow. This is incredible. An amazing sugary floral (which I love). It's predominantly peony on me, which I'm pretty happy about, as I love peony and it always seems to get drowned out on my skin. The carnation is really only hints, which is unusual, as I tend to amp the shit out of it. The peach is lending some fresh, juiciness I think, but isn't really recognizable as peach. This is quite sweet, but not cloying. The vanilla blends right in and doesn't take over. If you love sweet, sugary florals, or love peony, then I think you need to try this. So. Good.

    Springtime scents

My spring collection (which I can't wait to break out! It's grown so much!) is full of florals and fruit, because that's just what I want to wear in the spring! Some standouts: Bewitched blackberry, sage, green tea, wild berries and dark musk Delirium apple, rose, and lemon Alice, The Reaper of Cruelty Bourbon geranium emboldened by the rich scent of aged patchouli, the sweetness of peach, raspberry leaf, and bourbon vanilla, surrounded by a butterfly swarm of spicy carnation and Italian bergamot. Pandy Fresh white musk, honeycomb, sweet apricot, elemi, orange blossom, and mischievous pink pepper. Lady Lucille Sharpe faded red roses and a glimmer of garnet with black lily, ylang ylang, smoky plum musk, and black amber. Judith and Holofernes Skin musk, honey, carnation, French magnolia, patchouli, sandalwood, and immortelle. Mad Kate Honeycomb, red currant, freesia, vanilla, rose geranium, thyme, and gardenia. Blossoms in Spring Time Vanilla bean and vanilla blossom, golden honey, antiqued amber, beeswax, copal, lotus blossom, and helichrysum. Muse of Fire an explosion of rainbow-hued flower petals dusted in sugar. Liebeszauber Honey, rose petals, and carnations – a drop of blood – red clover, cubeb berries, and vanilla cream. and the most recent addition Blossoming Vulva Golden amber and bourbon vanilla with sweet oak, blue lotus, and tea blossom From the Post: Glaucous Snow Snowballs of blue lilac, lotus root, Roman chamomile, sandalwood, and cade. Do the Dancing Maidens Sleep hyacinth and snow-dusted honeysuckle, sweet with asphodel and honeyed vetiver

    Recollection Bath Oil

This is lovely. Warm buttery marshmallow. It reminds me of when you melt marshmallow and butter together to make rice krispie treats. Not really getting any camomile. This will pair beautifully with Stekk, and also with marshmallow cookie pie. Creamy, foodie and sweet without being cloying. Love it! I should note that I used it as moisturizer rather than in the bath.

    The Love Swing Hair Gloss

Oh wow, this is heavenly. This is like Revenant Rhythm and Black Vanilla and Cardamom HG's had a love child. A gorgeous, sexy love child. I love this. It's a different patch note than RR - dryer, and the cardamom lends even more dryness. But the vanilla is sweet, and the whole thing is just so well balanced. It almost smells like there's hints of tobacco in this....that's another reason it's reminding me of Black Vanilla and Cardamom. Anyway, this is sexy, the patch is a bit less in-your-face, making it easier to wear to work for me, and I just love it.

Frau bei der Selbstbefriedigung Bath Oil

I am also reviewing this as a moisturizer, I haven't tested it in the bath. In the bottle, this is mostly cream (I'm not really getting much vanilla with the cream), and it's a sweet cream. On my skin, the sandalwood blooms first, and I thought for a few mins this was very much going to be a creamy sandalwood scent, but then I started amping the rose. It's now beautifully balanced - sweet cream, rose and sandalwood. It's lovely, feminine and pretty, and will pair well with all kinds of perfumes. Very happy I blind bottled it.

    Screaming Mandragora

I was lucky enough to receive an imp of this with my Goblin Grab Barrel from the Trading Post. Thanks Goblins! Wet: Fruity and rooty! Really interesting. I'm getting more of an apricot vibe (which I love!) than mango. It's reminding me of Depraved with roots instead of patchouli. I love it. Loooove it. Dry: This is very much akin to Depraved on me. There's something warm and a little naughty about this. If it was offered in a bottle, I would buy it. Juicy stone fruit (still think it's apricot), dirty woods (dirty in a good way) and something a little bit primal. I'll enjoy this imp.

    Behemoth

I'm a little confused about this. When I first got this frimp from the Lab, I didn't recognize the name, but didn't really think anything of it. Then when I went to test it I looked it up on my spreadsheet under my GC tab (yes my spreadsheet is super organized, I am nerdy that way) and couldn't find it. The Lab's search function is down, but here I find the review thread under Streamworks. But when I thoroughly checked my spreadsheet I did find it under "unreleased". Cool! Thanks Lab, for the special frimp! Wet: Lots of lavender, and ozone, which is quite soapy on me. I like it though, and immediately think it would make a good sleep scent. The tobacco flower in it is really nice too. Dry: Very perfumey. This smells like Fractured Singularity on me - they both share tobacco flower, so I think that's what I'm smelling here. I love it, and am glad I have Fractured Singularity, otherwise I would want to track down more of this.
