Frimp from the Lab! Wet: There's something almost boozey going on! Weird. But mostly laundry. Like someone spilled some wine in the laundry basket. Dry: Whatever that weird boozey note was has disappeared, to be replaced by some tea. So now it's like someone spilled tea in the laundry basket. It's actually really nice.

I'm essentially just trying this to confirm I still can't do violet, and since the Lab saw fit to frimp it to me. Wet: Really sour on me. Dry: Violet and orris, still really sour. Not for me!
-
I'm not actually expecting this to work on my skin, cuz jasmine, but want to give it a shot anyway, since the Lab was kind enough to send me a frimp. Wet: Almond! Straight up sweet almond extract. For all of two seconds, and then it turns to Jasmine. It's actually not terrible in this! At least not so far. Dry: Uh, so much jasmine. And something sour, maybe the oakmoss? Not sure, but this is not doing it for me. For a split second I thought maybe it was a jasmine I would like, but I was wrong. Still, as always, glad to have gotten to try it.

Love all the listed notes except for orris, hoping it doesn't ruin this! Wet: Oh wow that's good. Musk and Myrrh, like what I had hoped Streets of Detroit would be. The patch is a nice addition, and the orris I think is just lending some sweetness at this point. This is dark and murky for sure, and I like it a lot so far. Dry: This is so good. I think this is the first blend with orris in it that I have genuinely liked. That being said, I don't smell a whole lot of orris, mostly musk and Myrrh, two things I love, and just a hint of patch (which I also love) on dry-down. I need a full day test, but I may need more of this. It's dark, mysterious, and a little seductive.

Slippery Poppy Tincture
LizziesLuck replied to Leopard403's topic in Doc Constantine's Pharmacopoeia
Wet: Very fruity - a tart sort of fruity. If I didn't know it was acai berry, I wouldn't be able to pick it out as such - actually I would have guessed apple! There's a very faint floral hovering in the background. Dry: This is interesting. It goes through a phase where the poppy and berry notes are perfectly balanced, and I really like it then, but shortly there after it starts smelling bitter, with some strange powderiness. Something in here isn't working with my chemistry. Too bad! That middle phase was lovely. -
Wet: This is so strange. I get something really green, something burnt. A LOT of plastic...and some pastry?? I would think my nose if broken, but I tried this once before to the same effect. I thought that I had too many things being tested at once and that was throwing me off, so I didn't even review and decided to test again. But now, same thing. I can smell some peony in the throw, but nose to skin this is just odd. Dry: Thankfully most of the weirdness of this fades away and I am left with a faint trace of peony and a tiny hint of cream. I was hoping this would be like Karina Van Tassel with peony instead of rose - it's not. Al least not on me. The cream note never entirely works for me, and the peony is really faint and with a lot of stem or green. It's lacking some sweetness on me too. Too bad, I love peony, but haven't yet found a blend that I love it in nearly as much as Peony Moon.

This wasn't even on my radar, but I got it as a frimp from the Lab, and the notes sound really interesting! Note: This is one of those blends where there is obvious sediment in it. I've given it a good shake and then a stirring with the wand. I'm assuming the bits are cocoa. Wet: Such a dark scent. Very smoky. Heavy on the copal and what I think is the "chapapote" (Which Google tells me means "asphalt". It translates to me more like the motor oil that might have been spilled on said asphalt, though there is a sort of rocky quality to it as well. Is this ever interesting! Dry: It smells like minerals on me. Like rocks. With a hint of something sweet and resinous. Interesting! But not something I would wear.
-
Love red musk and lilac, but the rest of the notes in this are neither no good on me usually, or iffy at best. But the Lab frimped me this, so I'm giving it a go! Wet: Sour juniper. Blarg. I'm going to be patient though, and see what else emerges. This is supposed to be sexy, after all. Dry: This actually dries fairly pleasant, though I don't get much musk or lilac. It's mostly orchid and rosewood on me. Nice, but not something I feel compelled to wear. Glad to have tried it though!

Not sure why I've never reviewed this. I have tried several imps over the years, wanting to love this, since I love the Lab's cocoa note so much. Unfortunately, the wine note in this goes fake plastic fruit on me, as it almost always does, so this one is a no-go for my skin.

This is quite the collection of notes! Some great on me, others that I don't care for. I'm curious about the galangal, as I've only used it in cooking, and to me it's always smelled like a more medicinal ginger. Wet: Bubblegum. Huh? As I glance up the page, I see I'm not the only one who has thought that...but still, huh? I have no idea what in this would read as bubblegum, or even fruit, or candy. This is kind of lotus like. Totally not what I was expecting, I am not getting any of the listed notes except for hints of hyssop. Dry: I am still struggling to wrap my head around how that collection of notes smells like soapy aquatic floral/bubblegum on my arm. There's gotta be some lotus hiding in there....

Frimp from the lab! Not sure I've ever tried anything with civet before, I'm interested to see what that's like on me. Wet: Dark, sweet. A little cologney on me at first. The anise comes through, but I'm really not sure where the sweetness is coming from - almost smells like benzoin. The civet it reading as musky on me, it quite a pleasant way. Dry: This is dark and lurking, sinister and gritty. Just enough sweetness. This is surprisingly wearable, and I like it. Just the right amount of anise. I love the feel of it. Currently undecided about whether or not I would wear it enough to seek out a bottle. It is like nothing else I have in my collection. Tempting.

Wet: Patchouli, of the dark, dry, really woody variety. I like patch, but I usually like it with something sweet, and I'm not getting that here, just dry, earthy, woody patch. Dry: Pretty much patchouli single note on me, dry, earthy, woody. Pleasant, but I prefer a little something else with my patch. Glad to have gotten to try it though!

Wet: This opens with a blast of bblegummy lotus, with hints of greenery, and something going powdery under it all. Dry: This dries down to a vague powdery sweetness. Not for my skin chemistry! In all fairness, I don't really care much for lotus, however I'm glad I had the opportunity to try this!

Frimp from the Lab! Wet: Rotting vegetation. I feel like a really humid jungle might smell like this. Not really reminding me of Newfoundland, or the east coast right now. Interesting though! Really murky. Dry: The musk comes out. Man I love musk. This is recognizable as black musk, and it blends nicely with the lush florals and greenery. This is pretty, while also being sinister. Not at all what I expected! To summarize, a lush floral with black musk and hints of green. Sweet, a bit sultry. I need to do a full day test, but I am planning a trip to the east coast this summer that may include Newfoundland, and I am considering getting a bottle of this as a fun "vacation scent".

Wet: Mulled wine! The clove and the wine are an interesting combo. Wine tends to go really fake and plastic on me, and it's sort of doing that here. Dry: Actually, it recovers from being plasticy and settles into a spicy clove/wine combo. It's ok, but I don't feel compelled to seek out a bottle. I am happy to have an imp of it though!

Aquatics are not my jam, but this was a frimp from the Lab, and I try anything I can get my hands on! Wet: Pretty standard aquatic. Not getting a lot of the cream/milk note. It's nice, if I liked this type of scent I imagine I would really enjoy it. It's pretty realistic of sea air, and isn't turning instantly to dryer sheets like most aquatics do on me, but I'm still having a hard time imagining actually wearing this. Maybe to the beach? It does give a really beachy vibe, not in the tropical sense, a swim in the lake rather than the ocean. Dry: This ends up very very sweet on me. Kind of floral, but still mostly aquatic. Not for me, but glad to have tried it.

Thanks so much to my lovely Fairy! Wet: Mmm. Lots of rich copal, other notes I can't put my finger on, but it kinda makes my eyes roll back in my head a little. This is good. Quite gender neutral, at this point, just the right amount of sweetness. Dry: This is sooo good. It smells like the world's best cologne. I'm not at all sure I can pull off wearing it, I always feel really feminine scents suite me best, but this is just amazing, Night in the desert, for sure. Resinous, a bit woody, a bit herby. I kinda want to find a cowboy to splash this on...

This has a mix of great, ok, and really iffy notes on me, so who knows how it'll turn out. Most worried about the wine, that almost never works for me. Wet: Boozey, fruity chocolate. Not bad at all so far! Dry: Weird fake fruit, and powder. Fail.
-
Wet: Musk, tobacco, something woody. Not as sweet as I had hoped. Dry: A really dry tobacco. Not the caramelly, chewy kind I like. It's nice, but not really wowing me.
-
Wet: Was not expecting the sweetness or the floral notes that are in this. It's smoky, for sure, but also a bit fruity, and quite sweet. Something in it is going powdery on me. Dry: This actually ends up smelling a lot like lotus on me. It's kind of fruity/floral/bubblegummy. Not at all what I expected. Interesting, but not something I would wear.
-
Wet: Smoky Coke! I totally get the Coca-Cola vibe others have mentioned, along with what smells like really smoky vetiver. Very masculine. Really unique. I kinda like it. Not that I think I could ever wear it. I would like to smell it on a man though, just for comparison. Dry: The vetiver, or whatever the smokiness is, dies down quite a bit, and I'm left with something that smells like slightly acid Coke. There's some sweetness, a bit of effervescence. It's interesting, but not really something I would wear. Really glad I got to try it though!

I tried this 10 years or so ago when I first started collecting BPAL. After testing it, I thought I hated Dragon's Blood (I wrote in my notes "Eeeeew Dragon!!") and avoided it ever since. I've begun retesting some things, and I've found I don't actually hate Dragon's Blood, so I am retesting this too, since the Lab frimped it to me. Wet: Wow that's strong. Sweet, spicy,a bit fruity, a bit musky. I am actually really loving it. It fades in intensity really quickly though. Dry: I quite like this. It's musk forward on me, the black and red blending together seamlessly. The DB is still evident as well, along with hints of fruitiness. I may need more of this. I love both red and black musk, and I think this is my favourite blend combining both.
-
Frimp from the Lab! Don't usually like aquatics, but interested to see how they combine with the DB. Wet: Much more aquatic/florals than DB. Sweet, smells vaguely of laundry. Not unpleasant at all, but not really my thing, so far. Dry: Nose to skin this is a floral aquatic with DB. But the throw is really realistic sweat. Not B.O. or anything, just salty sweat. Interesting, but not for me!

Wet: There's a bit of floral spiciness to this - almost reads like cinnamon, but I don't think it is. There's some green. Something almost metallic, or ozoney. Dry: I find that all of the Conjure Bag scents have a similarity to them on me - this weird herby spiciness that I can't quite place, but that I don't care for, unfortunately.
-
Frimp from the Lab! I am not a of "clean" smells, for the most part, but I love trying everything I can. Wet: Lemony. Pretty much what I expected. It's really nice though, as far as clean type scents go. And while it smells clean, it does not smell like CLEANER on me, which is good. The tea note is evident and nice. Overall, I am enjoying this far more than I expected. Dry: This smells pretty much the same as F5 did on me. Ok, but just not my type of scent. Glad to have gotten to try it though!
