I love lilac, and am so curious about the addition of candle wax! Wet: Lilac and crisp tea. Not getting the wax yet, but this is so lovely. I adore lilacs. Upon further sniffing, I think I detect something that smells like creamy vanilla underneath. This is so refreshing! I'm really loving it. Dry: Beautiful fresh sweet lilac. I love lilacs so much. Only hints of the tea remain, and I don't really detect the candle wax, but still, I love this. Perfection.

Wet: Dark, earthy coconut. A hint of lemon. Really nice. I agree with a previous reviewer that this immediately reminds me of Lush's Trichomania. This is not a bad thing. This is more tropical than I was even expecting. It makes me want to go on vacation. Man, I love coconut. Dry: Warm coconut, hints of musk. Quite earthy. Only a little hint of the lemon blossom remains, but it adds to the overall tropical feel of the scent. I love it. I am a coconut fiend, but this is different enough from my other coconut scents to have a home in my collection. I can't wait to wear it this summer!

So excited to try this! Wet: Omg that's good. Sugary florals, green notes. Amazing. Can't stop huffing my wrist. love love love. This is wild flower heaven. Dry: Still heaven. Sun-warmed wild flowers and dandelions. Sweet and fresh and green. This is such a "warm" floral on me, if that makes sense. I love it. So happy to have procured a bottle!

Thanks so much to my amazing fairy for picking this up for me!! In the bottle: The Lab's beautiful champagne note, and creamy vanilla. Wet: Champagne and opium are dominant. Sweetness from the vanilla and cognac come to the front after a moment, backed with effervescent champagne. This is so beautiful. Dry: Lovely. My favourite thus far of all the champagne blends I have tried. I do amp champagne, but this is really well balanced. The vanilla is lovely. I will get a lot of wear out of this.

Blacker than the Raven Wings of Midnight

Not gonna lie. Despite liking all of the notes in this, I wanted this formerly for the name. I think it might be one of my favourite BPAL scent names. I just needed it in my life, OK? Don't judge. Wet: Gnarly patchouli, tea, something almost tobacco-ish. Gooood. Really good. I wouldn't have thought I would love tea and patch together so much. I want to roll in this. Dry: A lot lighter than expected or hoped, but still really good. I will just need to slather it. Primarily a lovely combo of tea and patchouli. Some vague sweetness. I really like it. -
2008 Wet: Mmmm. Oh yum. So good. Super foodie vanilla, a hint of saffron making it perfumey as well. Love love love. Immediately want to find MOAR. Hope it dries this good! Dry: Boozey, sexy vanilla. Love it. Need more, this partial is not going to be enough! This perfume is the perfect balance between foodie and perfumey vanilla, and I absolutely adore it. ETA: 2016 I am so glad this was brought back this year, since I had just fallen madly in love with it. This has quickly jumped high on my Top 10 list, and may be my favourite vanilla of all time. I find 2016 to be identical to 2008, to my nose.

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!
LizziesLuck replied to Ella LaRose's topic in Recommendations
I am having a hard time thinking of things that don't have amber....hmmm. I got nothing for your first two, sorry! Well if you like Aristocratic Couple, maybe try Pandy Fresh white musk, honeycomb, sweet apricot, elemi, orange blossom, and mischievous pink pepper. or Depraved Earthy black patchouli swelling with apricot. Since you love Womb Furie, have you tried Snake Oil? Or Tombeur Deadly and seductive: vanilla-infused sandalwood, blood musk, antique patchouli, vetiver, lavender, bitter almond, amber, and a trickle of Snake Oil. And since you like Dorian, I would try Famine Sleek black tea, tobacco leaf, frankincense, lilac, and white musk. and maybe also Theodosius, the Legerdemain Earl Grey tea leaves, a white fougere, jasmine leaf, pearlescent white musk, and vanilla bean. -
I'm always looking for vanilla. I have recently discovered I love the Lab's "vanilla bean" note, so I am excited to try this! Wet: Buttery vanilla. Slightly soured milk for a second, but that burns off. This is a much more foodie vanilla than I expected, I was expecting floral vanilla. I swear there's a cream note in this. Dry: This is mostly vanilla on me, which is awesome. It's a similar vanilla to that in Snake Oil, but less sugared and without the other notes. I pretty much love it. Not sure it's my perfect vanilla, but it's darn close! So glad I tracked this down.

I received a frottle of this is a forum purchase. Can you believe that? A frottle. I was floored. And so excited to try it! Wet: A lot of cinnamon. I see no one else has noted cinnamon in this. But it's cinnamon all right. Not in the bottle. I don't detect even a hint in the bottle. But once it hits my skin, my chemistry does it's thing and amps what is likely a trace of cinnamon to high heaven. There are hints of herbs. A slight metallic edge, but not unpleasant. Maybe a faint hint of leather. Very interesting. I wait impatiently for it to dry. As it's drying, I get faint hints of....ummm...vomit, actually. Underneath the spicy leather. Ya, that's vomit. Dry: Warm, spicy leather. Generally I like really feminine scents, but this is pretty unisex, and I still love it. I also think it would be sexy on a man. I am so happy to have received this, it's like nothing else in my collection!! I'll cherish it.

Excited to try this! Love musk! Love roses! Love spices! This should be good! Wet: Sweet roses. Sweet musk. Not getting a lot of spice yet. The rose is really pretty though. It's blended seamlessly with the musk so far. Dry: Somehow this combo is just not working on me. The musk has come to dominate, and though I love red, black, and white musks, maybe I don't like Arabian musk? I don't know, it could be the spices too, but something about this isn't working for me. It's really sweet, kind of in a sickly way.

I like sparkly. I like musk. Apples disappear on my skin. We'll see how this goes! Wet: This is so beautiful. I think the nicest apple scent I have tried from the Lab. Exactly as described. This is a really grown up apple scent. It's very clean. I really love it. If it stays this nice I might be in trouble....I don't imagine it's easy to hunt down a bottle of this. Dry: I really really like this. It's not effervescent like I had expected from the description, "sparkly", but it's apple, and it's musk, and I like it. I can't decide whether I would really wear it enough to track down a bottle or partial.

Wet: Dirt, florals. A hint of booze. Interesting combo! Dry: I don't think I care for Bay Rum, or it doesn't get along with my skin chemistry. It's not playing well with the dirt note on my skin. Too bad! I love the Lab's dirt note, but this blend is not for me. Eta: this combo almost smells rancid on me - bleck!
-
Wet: much more aquatic than I had hoped, but it's a really cold aquatic - almost like the Lab's snow note. Or maybe that's the "frost" rather than the aquatic coming through. I actually really like it so far. Dry: This is the same snow or frost note that's in Mat Night, a favourite of mine. I'm not really getting any of the other notes, but I'm kind of ok with that, this is so beautiful as it is. I'm glad that there's something in the GC with that beloved bright slushy icy snow note in it! I was not expecting it at all. I may need a bottle of this at some point, it's fantastic.

...Blackened sandalwood and misty lavender, with curling wisps of smoky tobacco, nag champa, and labdanum. I had no idea what this would be like. Lavender scents are always for bedtime though, for me. So I took a chance and just slathered this on before bed, since none of these notes have ever been bad on me. This is lavender and tobacco on me. Such an interesting combo! I really like it and will likely get a lot of bedtime use out of it.

Excited about the idea of dandelion. I love tobacco. depending on what type of booze though, this has potential to be horrid (wine is really bad on me usually) Wet: Really fruity - I think the booze is wine. It's not bad so far. I love the green floral note that I'm assuming is dandelion. This is really interesting. Dry: I LOVE that green floral dandelion note. Unfortunately it burns off quickly, leaving behind faint fruity wine. The wine note in this is actually not terrible on me, but still not something I care to smell like. I will for sure be searching for dandelion in other blends, though!!

Excited to be finally retesting this! I tried it 10 years ago when I started collecting, hated it, and never went back to it. My tastes have changes hugely since then, as has my skin chemistry. Wet: Red musk with some sweetness and spice. Not as "in your face" as I was worried it would be. Good! I love red musk. Dry: Pretty much red musk single note. It's ok, but I have other red musk blends (Now Winter Nights Enlarge) that I like much better.
-
Wet: A lot more woods than I expected. The Myrrh quickly comes to the forefront though, and the cinnamon is evident, but not dominant like it often is. This is nice so far, but not wowing me. Dry: Myrrh with a hint of cinnamon. It's nice, but nothing special on me. I don't feel the need to track down a bottle.

Bradford pear, honey, and vanilla cream. I have been desperately searching for a pear scent that works. Here's hoping! Wet: The pear is ok - a little dusty. The vanilla cream smells a bit sour, which makes me sad, it's usually a good note on me. It's very light, I applied quite a bit for a test, and am still having a hard time smelling it at all. Dry: This actually settles into something really nice - creamy pear that`s not too sweet. Unfortunately, it is so light I can barely smell it - no throw to speak of at all. I may retest another day, but if it doesn't seem any stronger I will not be going out of my way to track down a bottle.

I love all of these notes so much, but I amp clove, so I am hoping it doesn't take over! Wet: Amazing. Such a riot of scent. I think the ginger in this is that effervescent ginger that I love so much. The clove is husky and sexy. It almost smells like there's tobacco with it, like clove cigarettes, in the best way possible. I want to bathe in this. This makes my eyes roll back in my head a little. Wow. Dry: I ADORE this. It is so much better than I could have thought. All those notes blend together to make the sexiest, smokiest, muskiest...just, mmmffffggg. So good. I want to roll around in it. I think it just jumped onto my top 10 list.

Wet: There's a green note in the fougere that is immediately familiar and haunting. It's a green floral I like it a lot. What the heck is it though? It's not lavender, at least not that particular note I'm smelling. Not getting any of the incense, this is all greenery on me right now, but I like it. It's very light, so I applied a touch more, and now I think I'm getting some of the Frank. Dry: This is just kind of vaguely perfumey on me. The floral is slightly peppery. It's nice. I'm not getting any of the Myrrh or Frank though. I do like it, it's just not wowing me. I'm not sure it'll stay in my collection, but I am glad I got to try it!

Cardamom tea, orange peel, mate, oakmoss, tonka bean, sweet cedar, and costus. This has cardamom in it, so I needed to try it. Wet: Wow! Interesting. I smell the cardamom for sure. Some orange and cedar. Something sharply floral too, the costus I guess. The sharpness is fading, and the tea is coming forward. Dry: Lightly floral, citrusy cardamom tea. A beautiful combo. Different than other tea scents I have. It's also rare I get to wear anything orangey - orange is super iffy on me, but I have noticed that often when it does work is when it's listed as zest, peel, or rind. This will be beautiful in warmer months, a really lovely scent. I'll admit the drydown doesn't make me go "wow!" the way it does when wet, but I like it enough to keep my bottle.

Really excited to try this. It's out of my comfort zone, for sure, but for some reason I just had a feeling it could be great on me. Nervous to see if I was horribly wrong! It is fresh out of the mail too, but I just can't wait. Wet: Brown? Fuzzy? I have no clue what I'm smelling. It's kind of chemically. It's not good right now, I can tell you that. But it's strong. Really strong. And super chemically. I wonder if that's the musk? Most musk is pretty good on me. Dry: Eventually this dies down to the most beautiful beeswax scent, and I love it. It takes it a really long time though. Usually, I have a 25 minute rule. That's about the length of time between when I put on my perfume, and when I get to work. I want it to smell good by then. I will have to decide whether the initial 45 mins of yucky chemicals is worth this lovely beeswax drydown.

All of the notes in this are full of complete win for me - except leather, which is super iffy. So I am a little scared as I try this. So much potential to be awesome, or totally terrible. I should note though, that I can smell the Lab's champagne note before I even open the bottle, and that gives me a lot of hope - LOVE the Lab's champagne note! Wet: Bright, fizzy champagne, with something darker underneath. The patchouli/rose combo, I think is what I am picking up. And is the ambergris ever amazing with champagne! This is making me so happy. I can't stop sniffing it. The leather hasn't shown up yet. There's an almost buttery note in there - maybe the vanilla? The throw comes off a bit soapy, but not in the least bit unpleasant. Dry: This is super interesting. The fizziness calms down, and the buttery vanilla and earthy patchouli come out. I really really like it, but it's hard to describe. It smells clean and bright and gritty and dirty at the same time. So glad the leather didn't ruin this on me though.

I have no idea why I was so desperate to have this. Might have been because I adore any and everything Alice. Might have been the same, which I love. Might have been the idea of vanilla and oriental blossoms, but to be honest, if I had just looked at these notes and not thought of the line it was coming from, I doubt I would have purchased this. Wet: A blast of sweetened lavender with hints of vanilla. Niiice. The initial scent causes me to immediately slather a bit more on my arm. This is a super complex, sweet lavender, different than the other lavender blends I have. Dry: This really fades. It's still a nice, sweet lavender, cotton blossom and vanilla scent. I will likely get a lot of bedtime wear out of it.

Love tobacco. Love honey. Love nicotiana. Excited to try this! Wet: Gorgeous floral honey. Similar to Door on me. It goes a bit soapy at first, hoping it settles down. I don't believe there is an actual tobacco note in this, I do think it's rather the nicotiana, or tobacco flower. Makes sense, that's where the honey would come from. Dry: I like this a lot. It's a very dry scent, and the floral is almost peppery. It's gets much darker as it dries, it's not bright any sunny anymore, but I really like this and will enjoy wearing it in the spring when I want something darker and smokier than my other florals. The sweetness is not overwhelming at all (as I had worried it might be) and in that way this actually works much better on me than Door. Really glad to have a bottle of this!
