I already tried the bath oil of this, so I knew sort of what to expect. This is a bit more balanced between the peach and crust notes. The BO was all peach (which was fine! It's an amazing peach note!) and this is both crust and peach. I love this just as much as the BO, and I am glad I got it! Sweet/tart peach, with just a hint of buttery crust. Yum!

Pecan Pie perfume did not work on me. It turned into clove single note. Pecan Pie HG is still a lot spicier than I expected - I don't put cloves (or any spice!) in my pecan pie. But in the hair gloss, I can at least detect the sugar, a "crust" note, which is lovely, and a hint of nuts. It's nice enough that I will keep my decant. Actually, if I accept it for what it is (which is not pecan pie, IMHO) this is really good! Spicy and sweet. It will go with a lot of things. It's just not what I had hoped for in Pecan Pie, is all.

Nobody else yet this year, eh? Well I missed it other years so had to try 2015: Wet: I don't know what I'm smelling. I can't pick any notes out clearly. But instead of making this feel well blended, I am getting a "muddled" sense from this. Like when you mix a bunch of really pretty colours of paint together hoping for something glorious, and you just get brown. There's something a little salty coming through. Not really sure why. I like all these notes. The only thing that was iffy was the redwood. But all I am getting is....I don't know. Going to let this dry and hope good things happen. Dry: Well this got a whole bunch sweeter, but it is also still weirdly salty. Smells like the Lab's "sweat" note is in it. I seriously can't pick out any of the listed notes. If anything it's a little fruity - maybe the peach blossom? Because it doesn't smell like currant (a fave of mine) I do get some woods. But no tobacco, no red musk, no Tonka, no hemp. Salty peach blossom is my final verdict. I don't hate it, but I am disappointed that my skin chemistry turned all of those amazing notes into this salty mess. Not for me! Glad I tried it though.

So. I have discovered this year that I love red musk. And that I can sometime wear things with black leather in them. So I am going to go out on a limb and give this a shot. I feel like Krampus is just one of those things you have to try, you know? 2015 Wet: Lots and lots of sexy sinister red musk! And something almost anise-like. Hmmm!! This is not what I expected, but it's so interesting, and I like it so far! The wood in this is really nice (I can't believe I just typed that). This almost has a tobacco vibe to me too. This is griity, in the good way. This verges on masculine, but in a way that I feel I could still wear somehow. That's unusual, I am feminine all the way, most times. Dry: I really like this. I think it's pretty unisex, I feel like I can wear it, also feel like it could smell really good on a man. The wood isn't overpowering in this. The musk is fabulous, and blends perfectly with the leather. I am undecided about whether I need a bottle, but I really really like this.

(left wrist) Wet: Something quite sharp is dominant. Very sharp white floral, and a bit soapy. I am not getting the snow note at all. Dry: This turns out really pretty, but not at all what I expected. It's primarily a white floral on me (the Lily of The Valley/Muguet) with a beautiful snow note. As nice as this is, I have other florals that I like much better.
-
Wet: Immediately I think this snow note reminds me of the one in Mat Night, which I adore. It's very soft though, mainly snow, not getting much of the other notes yet. A little floral/fruity. Simple and beautiful. I like it a lot, but it's not blowing me away yet. Dry: Really light on me, no throw. Soft snow and sort of a fruity floral. None of the incense I had hoped for. This is nice, but I can't see myself reaching for it.

Sexy, Smutty, Seductive, Provocative... It's All in Here

I love sexy fragrances too. Red Lantern is my favourite. I also love the Post's Revenant Rhythm - sex in a bottle, that stuff is! Can't wait until a perfume oil of RR is released! I find Depraved quite sexy as well, and one of my new sexy faves is Now Winter Nights Enlarge. -
2015 This contains ginger and lemongrass, a combo that I adore in tea, and so I had to try is despite the fact that citrus notes hardly ever work on me without something much heavier in the mix. Maybe the Frank will provide that.... Wet: We're off to a good start! Gorgeous lemongrass and hints of ginger and citrus. Really strong! I can detect the geranium a bit. Frank hasn't shown up to the party yet. Dry: This dries down to almost a lemongrass single note, and then pretty well fades away. This may be due to wear I tested and my skin being a little dry. I need to test this against Phobos, which is also pretty much a lemongrass single note on me, as I can't see needing both in my collection.

I am a coconut slut, so I will pretty much give anything with coconut a go. I've also been looking for a pear scent I can wear, so I thought I would get a decant of this and give it a shot, despite "sweaty" being one of the descriptors.... mmm, sweaty pear! Wet: Candy sweet coconut and pear. Very much in high-end suntan lotion territory right now, but I am ok with that. Coconut and pear is actually a fascinating combo. Not getting any leather. The honey is amping the sweetness, but isn't detectable on it's own. Can't detect the Tonka, and don't actually know what castoreum is, but not smelling anything unfamiliar. Just super sweet (and getting sweeter) pear and coconut. The coconut is starting to edge out the pear. The suntan lotion vibe is dying down. It's now getting less rather than more sweet. Interested to see how this dries! If the coconut keeps coming forward I pay need more of this. Dry: This has really faded, it's very faint now. But before it disappeared, it dried down to mostly gorgeous warm coconut - I was pretty happy about the whole thing. May do a whole day test to see if it'll stick around long enough to be worth getting a bottle. It's rare for me to find something that is as strongly coconut (rather than other notes) on me.
-
Wet: Mmm. Tobacco and vanilla. Immediately those amp on me, and it actually reminds me a bit of Antikythera Mechanism, and also of Black Vanilla and Cardamom HG, which is strongly tobacco and vanilla on me. This is different though, more complex than either, just reminiscent of both. Dry: Tobacco and vanilla. Smells just like Antikythera, because that's what I amp in it too. Kind of disappointing that my skin chemistry narrowed all those notes down to that.
-
Since this has fig milk, vanilla, and Myrrh, I could not pass it up, despite the fir, which will be terrible on me if I amp it. Wet: Sweet. Lotus forward. Pretty, feminine and creamy. Almost tropical. I'm getting something slightly fruity, maybe the fig milk? Nice. Soft. Dry: So here's where things get weird. Dry, this smells identical to Jiggery Pokery on me. Identical. WTF? That makes SO SENSE with the listed notes. I will have to test them against each other, but right now I feel like I'm going nuts.

I have discovered this year that I actually don't hate everything with "snow" in it, in fact I sometimes really like it! So I am trying Snow White for the very first time this year! Kind of excited about it. 2015 Wet: I get a coconutty vibe from this!! Wow, wasn't expecting that! Interesting! I don't actually know what I was really expecting, but this isn't it. The coconut fades a bit, but doesn't disappear, and now I am getting some sort of slightly tropical flower. It's a little odd smelling on me, not gonna lie. It's starting to smell like burning. I don't think this is working too well on me, but I'll let it dry and see. Sometimes things "recover" once they settle. Dry: Wow, once this settles it's friggin lovely. I don't know how the heck I missed the fact that tons of people get coconut out of this (I am a coconut fiend) if I had realized that I would not have waited so long (only 10 years....) to try this! This is so nice. It's almost more of a coconut water note - like frozen coconut water. Different than any coconut I have in my collection. The florals are lovely too once they settle, but I can't really identify them. I know this is a Yule, but I am buying a bottle and wearing it all Spring. So there.

I have been so impatient waiting to try this, with all the reviews sounding so amazing! I had wished I had just blind bottled it, but I made myself wait till my decants got here. So excited to try it! Wet: Y'all weren't lying. This is so amazing. It's the most wonderful vanilla cloud. It's foodie vanilla ecstasy. I want to smell like this frequently. Very frequently. PRAYING it doesn't turn to plastic. Praying. To the BPAL gods. That's a thing, right? I feel like there's a linen note in this, like in Boo (but this does not smell the same as Boo, just similarities) .This does teeter on the edge of going wonky on me for a moment, but it comes back. That marshmallow note is divine! Dry: We had a few tense minutes here, folks. It wasn't always certain whether my skin chemistry was going to let me have this one. Eventually it settled and is amazing. I do still get hints of the linen or "wooly" note, but it's subtle and lovely. The marshmallow note is perfect, not too sweet or in your face. The throw is light, but gorgeous, even better than nose-to-skin. I see that this is out of stock currently. I so hope it comes back soon so I can order a bottle!!

Wet: Wow, that wood really is honeyed and scorched, but in a really good way! The cinnamon is immediately evident, and lovely, not foodie at all. I like this. The wood isn't taking over. Dry: This is much woodier when it dries than what I generally like. However I do like it. It's so unique. Hard to describe what those adjectives of "scorched, honeyed" have done to the woods, but it's beautiful. No pencil shavings here, and just the right amount of sweetness to make this into something I can wear. I think I will be searching out more. This is my second favourite of the Phoenixes I tried this year.

Wet: I think I am getting mostly the lemon and honeyed incense. It's quite well blended and hard to pick out notes. Pleasant though, but not really blowing me away. It is nice to put on something citrusy and not have it immediately smell like cleaner with my stupid chemistry though. It's not very strong on me, not a lot of throw. Does seem to be primarily a citrus scent, but with some depth from the other notes. Dry: Sort of a honey-lemon incense. Quite interesting, but not something I would wear personally, so I will pass my decant along to someone who will hopefully love it better. Glad to have tried it though!

Wet: The cocoa comes out the gate really strong in this! I love cocoa, so I'm ok with that, but it's quickly overtaken by the cedar, which makes me sad, it's drowning out EVERYTHING except some faint hints of patchouli. Dry: Cedar single note. So many other notes of win in this blend, and all I get is cedar, which I don't hate, but don't want to wear as a single note. Sad.

I am OBSESSED with wearing coconut in the summer, to me that's what screams beach/Hawaii. I actually came back to the bpal fold after a hiatus because I was in search of the perfect summer coconut. I tried everything in the GC that contained coconut - none of it was what I wanted. My favourite is actually a LE, Paper Kite Coconut, white sugar, angelica, and black pepper.. However, a close runner up is Death Cap A warm, soft, ruddy scent, earthy and mild.. I know that sounds weird, you would not expect it to contain coconut. But I swear it does, and it's awesome. Just my two cents! Hope you find your own perfect summer smell!

Anything with the words "caramelized" and "Myrrh" together in the same sentences has gotta be tried by this gal.... Wet: Oh wow. That's so good. You know when you sniff your wrist and literally make an "ommfffgg" sound cuz it's so good? Ya, that good. It sure is caramelized. The Myrrh and Frank are pretty well balanced, thick and chewy. I was worried this would be too similar to Penitence to warrant me needing a bottle, but they are really different to my nose. This is sweeter, smoother, rounder. Uh oh. This is trying to turn to plastic. That is not usual for me, these notes should be totally fine. But it's not fine, it's turning weird. My skin is ruining this! Do you ever want to yell at your skin? "Don't you ruin this for us! This is why we can't have nice things!!!" Ya, I wanna yell that at my skin right now, cuz this was so good. I keep thinking it's making a comeback, then I'm wrong. Dry: This eventually settles down, but when it looses the plastic notes, it also seems to lose the other things that were originally making it magic....now it's just Frank and Myrrh. Lovely, but not "OMG need more right now!!!".

I should start off by saying, when I got a decant of this, it was on a whim. I knew I did not want to smell like blueberry pie. Don't ask me why. I love gourmand scents. I just knew I would never wear this, but really wanted to try it. Wet: This smells so freakin good. The crust note is to die for, as is the cream note. The blueberries are unfortunately a little artificial smelling on me. Dry: Not much of a morpher on me, except the blueberry note turns even more plastic. I was right about not wanting to smell like this, however it is way better than I expected, and I am glad I got to try it!

I have really bad luck with apple. I love it, but it disappears really quickly on me. I am still looking for an apple that will stick around! Wet: This apple is lovely. It smells to me more like a cooked apple than a fresh one, or maybe dried. It's quite sweet. I really like whatever the herbs are underneath, though I can't identify them , and the combo with the amber is gorgeous. Dry: Well, I have finally found an apple that sticks around! And it's quite lovely with the amber. Problem is, I am now not sure that I actually WANT an apple perfume.....lol. I will have to take it for a full-day spin and see how I feel about wearing it.

Wet: Strong almond and orange. Quite nice! I have a hard time with orange, it often goes really powdery on me, but the times it does work is often when it is orange peel or zest, so I am hoping this will be ok. This is much foodier than I expected, but I like the almond in it, as almond has a real tendency to go sickly sweet on me, but I think maybe the orange is keeping it in check. The rose is coming through now, and it's a somewhat citrusy rose, without being sour. Overall, I quite like this so far. Dry: This goes through some very interesting phases. There's a very smoky incense phase, overlaid by quite a bit of soap. It's now settled to a spicy, incensey rose, with hints of spice and orange. The almond has pretty well disappeared, aside from some lingering sweetness. I really like this, but I am not sure how wearable it will be for me. I think I will keep the imp though. Not sure what I will do with it....I might like this as a room scent.

Received this as a frimp Wet: Earthy, with some green notes. Maybe even a hint of the Lab's dirt note, which I love, but hadn't expected to find in this. I really like this so far. I think I detect hints of the Lab's decay note, which is always a bit sweet to me, and which I also love. This smells a lot like The House on me, without the rose. Loving it! t's getting fainter and fainter though. Dry: This has almost but not quite disappeared on me. What's left is quite pleasant, a little earthy, a little green. I will likely keep the imp(s) (I ended up with several of these somehow) and wear them to bed, as I find earthy scents really soothing at bedtime.

I love rose! I like the idea of pomegranate, but it's not always great with my skin chemistry. Still, I am really excited to try this. Wet: Both notes shine equally. Simple and lovely. The pomegranate is sweet and tart at the same time. I believe the rose is of the red variety - reminds me of the rose note in Peacock Queen and Whip. I really like this so far. I do have a TON of rose in my collection though, so it would take something quite special to make me want a bottle, at this point. Dry: The rose stays beautiful and true, doesn't go soapy or sour on me at all. The pomegranate is beautifully balanced with the rose. I really like this, I think it may be up there with some of my fave GC rose blends. I have too many to justify a bottle of this right now, but I will be keeping it in mind for when some of my other rose scents start to run low.

Why do scents turn to baby powder on me?!
LizziesLuck replied to stardust's topic in Recommendations
Generally when this happens it's a skin chemistry thing. I have three of the scents in the Amber pack - The Lion, Tamora, and Bastet, and none of them turn to baby powder on me, they are all beautiful amber. But the Lab's amber is a really good note on me. However, orange, which I love in the bottle, immediately turns to powder on me. Because of my skin chemistry. Try testing your BPAL amber scents on a swatch of fabric. If it doesn't turn to baby powder, you'll know it's your skin chemistry and not the oil. -
Wet: Jasmine. Lots and lots of it. Very sweet. Some spices I can't identify. Some fruit. But mostly jasmine. Surprisingly it's not completely horrid in this, but still never something that works on me. Dry: Jasmine with hints of kitchen herbs/spices. Not for me! glad I tried it though.
