    Knockout Drops

A kind forumite provided me with a sniffie of this. I love the Monster Baits that I have, so I was excited to try this one too, even though the notes aren't really for me. The lemon and mint don't play well together on my skin. I get none of the vanilla or meringue, no white chocolate. Maybe a touch of the absinthe, but I could be imagining it because I expected it to be there. I am really glad I got to try this, it reassured me I do not need to attempt to track down a bottle of this.

    Snow Scents!

How was it? I tried several snows lately and have been bummed out by all of them - Snow White, Midwinter's Eve 2007, and Snowflakes 2006. They were all a lot sweeter on me than I expected, too sweet ultimately so I have yet to find my snow scent. I just missed the decant for The Bear Prince, but I did get Frau Holle, Hurðaskellir, and Le Befana. I will be trying those soon to see if they are the snow scent I am looking for. I am eyeballing a few other Yules for my snow scent now...Nuclear Winter, The Snow at Dawn, Unmanageable Snowdrift, and Ded Moroz. Several others look nice, but I have to avoid benzoin, labdanum, and similar scents because they can go medicinal on me. Anyone recommendations would be appreciated! What about Mat Night? I didn't even know I could like a snow scent until I tried Mat Night. It's amazing. caramelized tobacco and slowly I can't seem to find it. Is it an LE? Sorry!! It's a retail exclusive, from Pretty Indulgent I'm not sure what the shipping is like to the US, as she's based in Canada, but you can get Villaness and BPAL in one place and it makes me so super happy! I order frequently and usually qualify for free shipping, so if you decide you want a bottle but it's going to be a fortune to ship it to the US, shoot me a PM. I have been looking at organizing a group order if there's enough interest and if it'll save folks money on shipping. I've also seen some used bottles floating around the forum.

    The Last Unicorn

Wet: White chocolate and something really bitter - might actually be the lettuce. The bitterness fades fairly quickly into something earthy. Not getting the lilac, or coconut, which is what I was hoping for. Dry: Not sure? This doesn't last on me at all, it's pretty well gone within an hour. There's a vague sweetness, a bit of greenness left on my arm, that's it. What's left has actually gone a little powdery too, so I think this was just not meant for me.

Wet: Very much cologne. Really nice, spicy cologne. It's growing sweeter and less masculine though. It reminds me of something (from LUSH I think) that I can't put my finger on. It's a bit peppery. So, I had to go back and look at the listed notes - because I have no clue what the heck I'm smelling here. The base could be Tonka, but where is this sweet spicy pepperiness coming from?? I'm not getting any lilac. I seriously have no clue what I'm smelling, I guess that's how well it's blended! I can't pick out any notes, none at all. It's sweet. And really nice. Sort of clean. A mix of warm and cold notes. Dry: I think this is oudh that I'm smelling. I've never really been able to pick it out before. But this is rich, woody, a little spicy. It smells like really expensive men's cologne. Very nice. Clean. I would like this on a man very much, but I don't think I can wear it myself.

    Door

Wet: This is the truest honey note I have ever smelled from the Lab. I frequently wash my face with honey (yes, I'm a weird hippie) and this smells like the honey I slather all over my face. After a few moments, it's joined by a sweet floral. Very feminine and pretty. I LOVE this honey note. This is not the same note as in Alice, or in Crib Girls. I feel like I've never smelled this BPAL honey, and I am loving it! Dry: Unfortunately I continue amping the sweetness in this until is screaming at me. It's become unwearable, sadly, but it's still really interesting. If it smelled on me dry like it did wet, I would be buying a bottle, for sure.

Wet: Wow, the musk is amazing in this. Sexy as hell. All the other notes blend together seamlessly, with the musk and patchouli coming to the forefront on me. Mmmm. Indeed. Dry: As it dries, the patchouli overtakes the musk by a little. This is not a gnarly patchouli. It's a smoothed out, earthy, sexy patchouli. It's reminding me a bit of a less sweet Snake Oil, actually. I think that's because the notes my skin is amping are patch, musk and vanilla, I do think there's just enough masculinity to this that a man could wear it. Actually, I think it might be dead sexy on a man. Hell, this would be dead sexy on a throw cushion, it's just sexy, plain and simple. I kind of want a bottle.

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!

I am going to second the recommendation for Mme. Moriarty, I feel like it's something everyone should try. It's amazing. Red musk, vanilla bean, pomegranate, black currant, patchouli leaf and wild plum. If you like Drink Me, I feel like you should try Eat Me as well. It's very different, but to me it has that same feel - a decadent gourmand note with fruit. Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants If you like Velvet, you might like Intrigue Black palm, with cocoa, fig and shadowy wooded notes or maybe How 'Doth The Little Crocodile Chocolate peppermint, mint-soaked vanilla, pistachio, oakmoss, and green cedar. I am not familiar with Chaotic - in fact, it scares me. Lol. So I can't help you there. Since you like Veil, maybe try Ouija, I think they kind of have a similar "feel" to them rosewood, oak and teak notes with wispy blue lilac, tea rose, dried white rose and ethereal osmanthus Have fun finding new scents you love! And welcome to the forum.

Wet: So pretty. So realistic! Sweet gentle white florals. One of the prettiest light white florals I've smelled. Something in there reminds me of honeysuckle. Something reminds me of Jasmine (likely the "night blooming flowers") but without that screeching, overly sweet, headache inducing part of jasmine that I can't stand. This is pretty. It's not exactly wowing me though. Dry: Sweet, light. That almost-but-not-quite-Jasmine note is the strongest on my skin. It's quite pretty, but I have other light white florals that I like as much or better, so I don't think I will be upgrading to a bottle. Glad to have gotten to try it though!

    The Lilac Wood

Wet: WOW! The most realistic fresh green grass note. Amazing! Hints of lilac underneath, but mostly grass. It's one of those blends where you think, "how does Beth DO that??" I am not sure how wearable it is for me at this stage. Hoping for the floral to come out. I would love this as a room scent! Dry: Uh, so sad! Stupid skin chemistry! Turned this amazing blend to soap on me. That being said, it's the prettiest floral soap I have ever smelled, and if I had a bar of it I would keep it just for company...but I'm not sure I want to wear it as perfume. Though I do actually think this would be a lovely bedtime blend for me. It's clean and light and gentle and soothing. Ya, I can totally see wearing this to bed, and may get a bottle after all. I do wish it had retained that amazing grass note on my skin.

    Parlement of Foules

2011 Wet: Cough syrup. Cherry, to be precise. WTF? I adore white rose. I adore resins. They are notes that usually work on me. Why does this smell like cough syrup? I can smell the white roses underneath, but there is something else overtop that genuinely smells medicinal and unpleasant. Hoping this corrects itself as it dries! Dry: Roses and cough syrup. So sad! It's possible this is one that doesn't age that well, so I may pick up a fresh decant if ever it's offered again.

    Gingered Chocolate Soufflé

Fresh out of the mail Wet: Candied ginger, slightly effervescent, with hints of chocolate. I love ginger, so mmmmm. Something a bit citrusy, something a bit creamy. This scent is almost ineffable on me, but really interesting and YUMMY. I don't know about soufflé, but it smells like an amazing gingery, chocolately dessert. The throw different than nose to skin, there's more citrus in the throw, and it's particularly lovely. I want to eat my arm. Dry: As it dries, more and more of the ginger comes out. This is a different ginger note than any I've smelled from the Lab before. This reminds me of something, and I can't put my finger on it, but it's amazing and I love it. I don't actually get a lot of chocolate in this, which I am fine with, I have tons of chocolate scents. The ginger in this with the hints of orange are amazing. A really sophisticated gourmand scent. The final dry down is this amazing ginger candy scent. I'm in love.

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

I've been searching for the perfect vanilla too, and am not sure I have found it yet (though I have a few more to test) I love aged Snake Oil, and Tombeur, though Tombeur is not very vanilla on me. Actually, nor is Snake Oil for that matter. Edith Cushing is a beautiful soft elegant vanilla-musk on me. Between Your Heart and Mine is an amazing vanilla-rose. But I still feel like I haven't found THE VANILLA. I Love Eat Me, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, The Antikythera Mechanism, Tombstone, but none of them have very much vanilla on me....maybe my skin just eats Vanilla? I have Detestable Putrescence....it smells like sour cheese on me for the first bit, so I only wear it to bed. Lol. And it's still not the vanilla I'm looking for, it's too buttery. I wanted Liz to be my vanilla, so badly, it would have been really cool to wear a perfume with the same name as me, but sadly it didn't work on my skin. *sigh* Anyone wanna suggest some I haven't thought of? I am willing to hunt for LE's. I think it have just secured some Love's Philosophy and Blossoms in Springtime, and I also have some MB: Underpants to test from the nicest forumite ever. But I am totally open to suggestions!

    Irish Coffee Cake

This is fresh out of the mail, but I couldn't wait to test it!! Wet: Irish Coffee Cake! That is, boozey coffee cake. I don't actually smell a coffee note, but it smells like those round cakes you eat WITH coffee, which I have always referred to as coffee cake. Whether or not they have any real coffee in them, I couldn't tell you. I'm rambling. Dry: Sadly, this goes a little dusty on me, as some foodie scents do. Boo! Haven't had that happen in a while, and I was beginning to think maybe my chemistry had changed and I wouldn't have this problem any more. This was amazing in the beginning! Cake is one of my favourite notes. I will test again once it's settled, to see if anything changes.

    Statistically Favorite Scent

Do you already have a copy of the BPAL spreadsheet of doom, or are you trying to make your own? I would be lost without my BPAL spreadsheet, and I would not want to try to make one myself from scratch! link here if you don't already have one.

    Shelley, Byron, and Keats

Wet: Wow, what IS that? Maybe the "mercury ointment"? It's like nothing I've ever smelled before. Really interesting, but not something I would want to wear. I was hoping the florals would lend some familiarity to it....but this is way way different. It actually smells like a pile of unfamiliar chemicals. Like a laboratory or something. It's a bit ozoney. Makes my nose tingle. Dry: This is truly unpleasant on me. It just smells like chemicals. I'm having to wash it off. I am so glad I got a tester instead of buying a blind bottle like I had planned to....

    A Specific Aberration

Wet: Immediately there is this fascinating scent that I can't place - must be one of the "white petals" and it's stunning. I think it's in Muse of Fire as well. This actually is also a bit effervescent and a bit creamy, like Muse of Fire, but the florals and the whole feel of it are totally different. This is amazing. I can hardly describe it. The whole CP line makes me feel that way. AMAZING. Dry: I keep coming back to the Muse of Fire comparison (which I adore). It's the only thing I have ever smelled that comes remotely close to this. It's simply amazing. Lycanthrope was right, it glitters. Hoard worthy. It will be a favourite of mine this spring and summer.

    Lullaby

Wet: Wow. BEAUTIFUL! This is instantly one of the most lovely florals I've ever smelled. There's some green in it too. Just....wow. I don't know what moonflower smells like, but I am intrigued by it, and so had to try this. I think I can pick out the gardenia (lovely), but I am not very familiar with tuberose. It's making it hard to pick out what the moonflower smells like, but this scent is heavenly. There may actually be something in it that I'm mildly allergic...when I put my nose to my skin and inhale it burns. But it smells so amazing that you can just guess how many f*cks I give about my stupid allergies. Most florals scream spring to me. And I wear florals all spring. But this, to me, is a summer garden. It's hot, and the flowers are in full bloom, and bees are buzzing, and it's freakin glorious. This makes me happy. It's not dry yet though, hoping it doesn't morph one bit! Dry: It gets a little lighter, a bit sweeter, but stays just as lovely. I do think it's moonflower I'm smelling, but that could only be in my head. It's sweet, and you can almost smell that it's white. It's a little powdery, but in a good way. I love it. Bottle worthy!

    Between Your Heart And Mine

Wet: Really soapy for an instant, and then a bit sour. It starts to settle quickly though, and that vanilla-rose comes out - boy is that a winning note! Pretty. Dry: I can't decide about this. One moment is wants to go powdery, the next I think it's glorious. That vanilla-rose note is so interesting, and the wood is warm and gentle. But the powder!! If only it would make up it's mind and go one way or the other. I think I need to test on another day, it may be my chemistry today that's off. ETA: After wearing it just a little longer, any powderiness dissipates, and what I am left with if the most gorgeous floral vanilla I have ever smelled. THIS is the BPAL Vanilla I have been searching for - a perfumey vanilla rather than a gourmand one. It's feminine, classic, elegant. I love it and need a bottle.

    Dr. Alan McMichael

This was not originally on my decant list, but I was so curious that I had to try it! Everyone kept comparing it to Snow White, and even though I had never smelled Snow White (I now have a decant of that on the way too) I could not for the life of me figure out how these would be similar. So, my curiosity piqued, I need to try them both! Wet: Holy tree! Like, the whole tree. A fir tree. And cinnamon. Confusing. This is not what either sandalwood or bay rum usually smell like on me. It is kind of sexy so far, I'll give it that. Dry: This settles into exactly what I imagines a bay rum/sandalwood scent would smell like. It's sexy, woody, spicy. To me it's a bit masculine, in that I think it would be sexy as hell on a man, but I feel like I could wear it too. I think I want a bottle. CP will be the death of me.
  21. LizziesLuck

    Crimson Peak

Wet: Something woody and sour, and then something metallic quickly takes over. Not as unpleasant as metal often is on me. There's something there softening it, just not sure what. It's quite intriguing. It reminds me of something, but I can't put my finger on what. I am liking this more than I thought I would. Really I just wanted to try it, but now this gorgeous snow note is coming out under the metal. This is really unique and special. Dry: This is so interesting, and like nothing I've tried. The snow note in it is gorgeous, and blends so well with the metallic note that it truly smells like cold metal - like Thomas's metal machine sitting out in the cold snow. This perfume is like a journey. As it warms up and dries more and more, I move in from outside in the cold, standing beside that metal machine, and now I can smell the house, old and rotting - slightly sweet and woody. The snow is still dominant. It's kind of amazing, and so hard to describe as a smell, it's more of a feeling. I can't decide whether I would ever wear this, but I find myself wanting a bottle of it anyway....CP is giving me that feeling a lot, I want them all.

Love Makes Monsters of Us All

Wet: Very woody and earthy. I detect the Lab's dirt/loam/earth note in here for sure. And the same "decay" note that's in The House, to my nose at least. Love it so far. There's a hint of spiciness. It's gorgeous. Not really getting the musk yet. So far it's not really wearable for me as a perfume, but I love these type of scents and frequently wear them to bed. It's very light, not much throw. I only tested a small amount, I think this one needs a good slather. Dry: OMG I am loving this. It is warming up, getting more and more spicy (I've always gotten this lovely floral spicy vibe from the Lab's decay note, I love it so much!). It's still earthy, but I feel almost like I could wear it during the day now. It smells soft and gentle and comforting, with something sinister and creeping underneath. It's lovely and creepy and perfect, and I think I have to have a bottle of it, even if I only do end up wearing it at bedtime. I have this sinking feeling in the pit of my wallet stomach that I am going to need a lot more CP bottles. A LOT.

    Spellbound

In the imp, this is all musk. Wet, I get a blast of rose. One of those three roses is white, I dare say. Lovely. However the roses immediately go a bit powdery. The amber comes through a bit. It's nice so far, but not wowing me. I have a LOT of amazing rose blends, so at this point it would have to be pretty out of this world to earn a spot in my collection. Dry: There's nothing bad about this really. The roses are a bit sour and powdery, but not awful. It's just not amazing, and I already have so many amazing rose blends, I don't need one that's just average on me.
  24. LizziesLuck

    Aglaea

Wet: Peach! Tart, syrupy peach! To me this is the same peach note from Jack, which I love. I thought there would be more complexity to this, but it's simply a lovely peach perfume, thus far. Dry: This is actually starting to remind me of "Fuzzy Peaches" the sour candies. It smells good, just not really something I personally want to wear as perfume, I don't think.
  25. LizziesLuck

    Quintessence of Dust

Wet: WOW LEATHER. The chemically kind that makes me make my, "ick" face. And maybe some metal? I was really hoping for some beeswax.... this stinks. Lol. So either it's a real morpher and will be awesome once dry and warmed by my skin, OR my skin chemistry has once again ruined for me something that everyone else swoons over. Gosh, the LEATHER! This smells like Paladin did on me, all metal and leather and chemicals and YUCK. Dry: It takes forever for this to turn into anything I even remotely want to wear. Eventually it's a sort of soft incense. Still nothing amazing on me, and not worth the horrid chemical leather/metal stage on me. I am just going to have to face the fact that leather is iffy on me. Boo.
