Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
LizziesLuck replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I'm not coming up with a whole lot here. But maybe: The Cat (Neil Gaiman's Coraline) Sleek, black, dark, and clever: benzoin, honey, cedar, and dark musk Sadly that was all I could come up with that had both cedar and musk and note a zillion other notes. I am sure others can recommend more. -
Wet: Bright floral, with an almost citrus edge. Really pretty. Soft. Like flowers in the sun. I'm digging it. Sweet, heady (in a good way) and really well blended. Dry: So beautiful and feminine. I really love it. A very sweet, pretty white floral. I know I will wear this a lot come spring.

Ermagerd, I am so happy I got this! I had absolutely no intention to, based on the description. Not that it didn't sound good, just not something I thought I would wear in my hair. But then I started to read people likening it to chai and I had to try it. So happy I did!! I'm not sure about chai to be exact, but it's spicy and creamy. Reminds me a little of this year's Pumpkin Cheesecake Cupcake, and I actually think I will end up wearing the two together a lot. Yum. Every foodie should have this.

Wet: Omg, this is so good. As described, all three notes sing in harmony, and it's glorious. Dry: Wavers back and forth between powdery and sexy as hell. Somehow I get something almost anise-like from this....weird! I wonder if that's a colour suggestion thing because the oil is so dark? Hmm. Either way, I like this, not sure if I love it. But I like it.

This is lovely. Doesn't really morph on me, it's the same wet and dry. A beautiful light cocoa and honey scent. I am not really getting much vanilla. This is lovely, sweet and gentle. Appropriate for the office or any occasion, I can't see this scent ever offending anyone.

Wet: The oil is a gorgeous rosy colour. It smells of warm amber primarily, and what I think is the vanilla-sandalwood. It's sweeter than I expected, and so so beautiful. Dry: It hasn't morphed a whole lot. I can now detect hints of leather and the faintest hints of cinnamon. I don't get any incense. Still primarily warm, rich amber and sweet vanilla sandalwood. Beautiful.

I can't believe it's taken me 10 years to try Jack.... Wet: Mostly pumpkin (the kind that smells like baked goods to me, not fresh pumpkin) and spices for a few moments, then the peach really amps up. It's like there's a war going down on my skin between some sort of pumpkin baked goods and...sour peach candies. Interesting! I wonder who will win? Dry: This ends up being pretty well balanced between tangy peach and pumpkin baked goods. The pumpkin part reminds me of this year's Weenie Pumpkin Cheesecake Cupcake. I like it!

Help! Gift Card Paralysis! What should I get?
LizziesLuck replied to BrieCS's topic in Recommendations
Do you have some favourite notes? Or types like foodie or floral? I am going to guess you like chocolate based on your list. On me, occasionally chocolate scents go powdery is that an issue you have? El Dia de Los Reyes is amazing, and I think quite popular, so it likely appeals to a lot of people. -
This is a BPTP rec, but lately for me, Muddy Puddles has been my favourite scent on a rainy day.

Wet: OMG so much metal and leather. Blarg. Was hoping for musk and vanilla..... Dry: Predominantly leather and musk. The musk is quite powdery. There's some sweetness to this, and I still get hints of metal. Overall, not bad by any means, but not my type of scent either.

In the imp and wet, the mandarin is very strong. Smells like orange cleaner, as orange usually does on me. I get hints of vanilla as well. Dry: This is a bit too citrusy for me. Though I am impressed that the citrus didn't go soapy or powdery on me. I was hoping that this would be really complex, with all of those notes of win singing in harmony. But of course, I amp one of the two notes in this I dislike. I don't detect any notes other than mandarin and faint vanilla, and that's just not enough for me to want to wear this. ETA: Hours later, this is a gorgeous vanilla. I really don't care for the wet stage, but I will have to do a full day test to see if it's worth it for the gorgeousness that I'm smelling now.

Wet: Well balanced mint and lavender. I LOVE the mint and lavender in Envy, and this reminds me of Envy without the green notes. Really nice. Dry: I'm loving this. One of my favourite lavender scents from the Lab thus far. It doesn't go soapy like lavender sometimes does on me. and I find the mint both soothing and invigorating at the same time. Might need a bottle.

Wet: Mostly lavender and soapy florals. There's something underneath that's really...gross......though. Like, onions or something. Blah. I wonder if that's the wisteria? It's the only note I'm not very familiar with, I like all the others and they usually work for me. Dry: All of the ick is gone, just clean soapy lavender. This will be nice for bedtime, but not something I would wear during the day.
-
Wet: Green and floral and dirt. Man I love dirt! I get a lot of the geranium out of this. I'm not digging the green note that much, but seriously, love that dirt! Dry: The geranium morphs into rose. Is that why it's called rose geranium? Hmmm, I'm not very familiar with it, but it smells like red rose now to me, with the Lab's dirt note. A bit like Zombi, but on me Zombi is 90% dirt, 10% rose. This is the other way around. I quite like it. Dirt scents are my favourite for bedtime, and I can see wearing this to bed frequently.

Wet: This is all blackcurrant tarts. There's hints of custard in this tart, for sure. I do love rose, but this smells amazing even before the rose shows up. When I huff my arm really hard, I get a citrusy rose. Red roses always trick my nose into thinking there is citrus involved. Dry: The throw from this is a nice fruity/foodie floral. Nose to skin though, the rose is quite sour and the pastry a little too buttery for me. I may do a full day test, because at time I really love this and think I should get a bottle. Other times I think it's just 'meh'. Can't tell whether it's constantly morphing on my skin or I'm just being fickle.

This was a kind frimp from a forumite. Wet: I mostly get the Lab's beautiful caramel note, which is likely my favourite note of all time. In the throw, I immediately get more apple blossom than anything, which is really interesting, because apple blossom generally gets drowned out on me. Nose to skin I still get creamy caramel, but the apple blossoms temper it nicely. Really pretty. Dry: Beautiful sweet caramel and honey with creamy apple blossom. Gorgeous. If this is re-released now the Carnaval is back, I will more than likely be picking up a bottle. ETA: - It was, and I did! This is the 2017 version. Wet: Plastic apples...?? The skin musk is quite prominent as well. Hmmm. This does not smell as I remembered, yet. It's very faint. Not getting any of that glorious caramel, really. So far - sad. Dry: OK, this gets better. Still a bit of a plastic edge, but I am hoping age will fix that. The apple blossom note is truly stunning in this. I do wish the caramel was stronger, but again, maybe with age. I am going to cellar this for a bit and try it again - I have learned my BPAL lesson about making hasty decisions!

Anyone have ideas for something like "One to Tie, Two to Win"?
LizziesLuck replied to Wildbriar's topic in Recommendations
I've never tried One to Tie, so I'm just going off on notes. Maybe: Squirting Cucumber - A spurt of wet, grassy greenness. Coraline Jones - Dry grass, clean skin, and a little bit of mossy berry. (This is gorgeous grass and a hint of berry on me. Very clean) Bub - dog’s bright, beaming memories of playing in the sun, rolling in the grass, and begging for table scraps. and BPTP Catch Me, Dad - Sun-warmed dirt and wildflowers, a whiff of the lavender Lilith loves to use in her hair, and the green leaves of summer just turning to autumn’s russet and brown. (On me this is beautiful, dried grass and light florals. I love this one) -
This is sexy man cologne. Not the worst thing to have sprayed on your pillow! It did stain my pillow case, which I have never had an Atmo do before, but still, I'm not mad at it. So sexy.

Wet: I immediately liken this to Jiggery Pokery, which I have and adore. Creamy citrus candy. Unlike Pokery though, this wants to go a bit "plastic" on me. Dry: Still very similar to Jiggery, but I like J.P. better. This has more citrus less cream, and J.P. is the other way around on me. Plus, this is doing that weird bitter citrus thing where it wants to go plastic. Citrus is often not my friend, and that's what is happening here. Not for me!
-
This is very soft on me, no throw, hard to detect. I get gentle musk and flowers. The jasmine doesn't take over like it usually does. It's really pretty, but so faint on me that I can't ever see wearing it.
-
Unfortunately, Uncle Brian turns to sweet fruity plastic on me. Immediately. And stays that way.

This is full of notes of win, but also the acacia, which I'm not at all sure about. Wet: Mostly sugar cane, but something floral comes out quickly - makes me wonder if it's the mimosa blossoms (acacia) in this rather than the wood. I am not getting anything woody out of this. I'm not getting the musk yet, but usually that comes out more on me on dry down. It's almost a bit citrusy, but sometimes honey does that on me. Dry: Sickly sweet and floral, slightly soapy. it's just not working for me. ETA: Slightly later, it starts to smell like violets...which to me are pretty much the devil....
-
Wet: Soapy citrus. Or citrusy soap... Dry: It almost smells like there's some mint in this to me. Minty and citrusy. A bit bitter. I am not a citrus lover, so this isn't doing much for me. It's nice, but not my thing. Even dry it's still quite soapy.
-
2010 Beautiful pure red rose on me. Sometimes rose (especially red) goes soapy on me, but not this, it stays true. The only reason I still debating whether to snag a bottle if it's released again this year, is the fact that I do like white rose better than red, and I have accumulated a fair amount of rose scents. I still may cave and get a bottle, as this is truly a beautiful pure red rose scent.

On me, both Captain Lilith perfume and HG are a bit reminiscent of a more innocent Red Lantern. I know coconut isn't a listed note, but I get coconut and caramel from Captain Lilith (which are the dominant notes of Red Lantern on me). I absolutely adore it.
