2015 This is almost aquatic on me, which is weird. Maybe that's the 'shivering' bit. The musk goes a bit powdery. I'm not really getting any of the other notes I was expecting. It's a bit sweet, a bit floral, which makes no sense to me. Can't smell the cocoa or leaves. This actually smells a bit like laundry on me. Which I don't much care for. Hmmm, too bad! I would say it needed to settle, but it has for some time.

Boo HG is even better than the perfume! In the perfume oil, I get a hint of the "cotton" note. Not enough to make me hate it, but I know I would prefer it without. I don't get that cotton note in the HG, it's all creamy sugar, which pretty much goes with any sweet perfume in my collection (which is most of them, really) making it just the perfect thing for me! I am so happy to have it. Two sprays is enough in my ultrafine hair, and the scent lasts all day. Lovely!

Wet: Soap. Powdery orange. Kind of like what Carnal turned to on me. I'm starting to think maybe orange is no good. I'm not a fan of neroli either, but I'm not detecting it in this. This is very similar to Carnal on me. Powdery orange. Darn skin chemistry!

wet, this is very sweet and boozey. Almost a little effervescent! Wasn't expecting that. It quickly morphs into...something else. someone up thread mentioned toilet cleaner. I can totally see where they got that from. It's not unpleasant though, I'm just not sure I want to smell like it. It goes back to being sweet and boozey. Hard to pick out notes. I certainly don't find it masculine. This makes no sense to me, based on the listed notes. I get no tobacco, no leather. No ambergris. Maybe it's sweet incense I'm smelling? It's really fruity though. If this were a decant rather than a Lab imp, I might think it had been labeled wrong. I do see others have found it sweet and fruity...who knows. Lol. I don't think it's for me, either way.

Wet - Earthy, a little spicy (but in the floral kind of sense) a bit citrusy. Really interesting! This is reminding me more and more of Yorick - earth with a spicy floral note and a hint of sweetness. I like this a lot! Just as I love Yorick. I will have to test them side-by-side to see if they're really that similar. I will for sure be using my imp up. This has that interesting BPAL "decay" note, which really should be disgusting but I find it beautiful and haunting.

Wet, this is very pomegranate dominant on me. Dry - still pomegranate. A dark, tangy pomegranate. I'm not getting hardly any of the other notes. A bit of musk if I huff really hard, nose to skin. This fades really quickly and is almost gone within the hour on me. Quite pleasant, but doesn't really do much for me. Unfortunately I think this one is destines for the swap pile.

This is gorgeous! I have only used it as a skin moisturizer, so can't comment on what it's like in the bath. The scent is a sweet vanilla-incense-rose on me. It goes fantastically well with a lot of my perfumes, as incense and roses are fave notes of mine. I love the sweetness of the bourbon vanilla. The scent has surprisingly good throw and lasts really well too.

I bought this with the intent to wear it at bedtime. It worked out perfectly for that. Though I do love it, this isn't something I would wear during the day. It's gorgeous herbal lavender and chamomile. It does go quite soapy on me, but a I wear it to bed, I am totally fine with this! I smell like clean lavender soap, and it's a very relaxing scent. I love this. Have hardly reached for anything else at bedtime since I got it. The label art is adorable.

Satan Starting from the Touch of Ithuriel’s Spear

This is GORGEOUS!!! The dominant note on me is beautiful blackcurrant. The patchouli and vetiver are just providing an earthy base. The musk is gentle in this, and the carnation isn't really evident at all. This is such a beautifully dark, fruity blend. The blackcurrant sort of smells...."thick", a bit syrupy but without being too sweet. The other notes combine with it beautifully. I am totally taken by this, and will be purchasing a bottle.- 16 replies

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!
LizziesLuck replied to Ella LaRose's topic in Recommendations
I don't have a heck of a lot of experience with your list. But Monster Bait: Closet is one of my all time faves. I haven't found anything like it, however Bewitched also has a glorious Blackberry note that I thoroughly enjoy, so I just thought I would throw that out there! -
I expected not to like this. Right now I am liking it 100% more than expected. I don't know what rosin smells like, but I think that's what I'm smelling because it's not leather or hemp, both of which I'm familiar with. Or it may just be so well blended that I can't pick out the notes individually. This is REALLY nice though. It's pretty gender neutral. I think it would smell amazing on a man, but I like the way it smells on me too. It's different than anything else I've tried. I am not sure that I would need a bottle, but I'm keeping in the imp. This stays really close to the skin. It's very warm. "soft, well-worn" is a great description for this whole scent.

I had already tried my decant of the hair gloss in this scent, and it was terrible on me. It turns out this is too. I now know I don't like Neroli much, and especially not with the dead leaves. Makes it altogether too bitter for me. However, if anyone was wondering the hair gloss and the perfume oil smell identical to me.
-
I am having bad luck with the leaves! I thought I liked them, but Dead Leaves Red Musk and Neroil was a disaster on me, as was the hair gloss. This isn't a heck of a lot better. I get no Myrrh (which is why I wanted to try this, love me some Myrrh) and no vanilla. Just dead leaves. Which aren't bad, I just don't want to smell only of that note.

Wet, this is really aquatic on me (guessing that's the "cold" note?) Not really my thing. As it dries though, it becomes a lovely floral. I can for sure smell the white rose, which is my favourite type of rose. Unfortunately, it fades really fast on me. While it lasted, it was a gentle sweet floral. Very nice, but it didn't wow me. I can't smell the frankincense at all, and I usually amp that. Pretty much gone inside half an hour.

Hmmm, having a hard time deciding how I feel about this. On me, there's not much pumpkin at all. It's mostly sweet foodie vanilla and cream. It's nice, but I feel like I have a lot of other foodie scents I like much better. I like Pumpkin Cheesecake Cupcake a lot better. That being said, this is quite nice, I just don't feel as if it really has a place in my collection. I was expecting to be less foodie and more "fresh pumpkin".

Immediately this reminds me of something, and it takes me a second to realize it's Sudha Segara without the ginger. Looking at the notes, that actually makes total sense. Also reminiscent of Alice without the carnation. It's nice. I get the milk and honey in equal measure. Something does sort of trick my nose into thinking there is almond in there, maybe the grain? That eventually fades out though. I feel like this would be a lovely layering scent, but not sure about it on it's own. I feel like I would always reach for Sudha or Alice instead. The longer I wear it though, the more it grows on me. It's quite lovely, a beautiful creamy honey scent. I'll keep the imp and see if I wear it often enough to warrant a bottle. Very office appropriate, I would think.

Winter smells and scents, including the perfect winter forest
LizziesLuck replied to Fury's topic in Recommendations
Just a heads up in case you hadn't realized, Ulalume is discontinued. Announcement here. You may still be able to pick it up on the forum sales. I'm not very familiar with Leanan Sidhe, but just looking at the notes, I wonder if Ogygia might not be a good winter scent (with all the woody/violet notes) in the same vein? Sea air, kelp, and climbing vines, flame-singed cedarwood and juniper branches, cypress boughs, alder wood, violets, selino, parsley, glistritha, and white sage. Sorry I can't really be more help! Can you identify the notes in Leanan Sidhe that you like best?? That might help others makes Winter recommendations. -
Decant, fresh out of the mailbox. May need to retest once it settles. In the imp it is all Patchouli. Wet, it's a lot of marijuana. A LOT. No vanilla yet, which is sad. Not gonna lie, totally hoping the dry down smells like Revenant Rhythm, as some have suggested. Unless the vanilla shows up soon, this is going to be a pretty epic fail on me. I do like that it's really close to the skin though. I have to stick my nose right on my arm to get any of it. It's actually very 'woody'. This is actually fairly nice when dry. Very close to the skin as others have mentioned Just not very much vanilla. I will retest in a few days. May try layering with something sweet and vanilla-ie too.

Wet, this is all tea. Almost lemony tea. As it dries I get hints of the rose and carnation. This is very light, and although I like all of the notes, it's just not really wowing me. m do a full day test, as it is very pretty and would be nice for spring, but right now it's just sort of...ok to my nose. Sad, as I adore carnations, but I love them much more in Alice and other carnation blends I have.

So way back when I first tried BPAL, I of course tried Snake Oil, as one does. My notes from back then indicated that I did quite like it, however there was this weird, almost medicinal note that was throwing me off and keeping my from enjoying it fully. I must have swapped that imp, and never bothered with another one. Fast forward 10 years later, and everyone is crazy for aged Snake Oil (sure wish I had kept that imp!). I found a forumite selling 5 year old imps, and I decided to try one. I get it now. That medicinal note is gone. It's smoother, richer, and altogether sexier. This is fantastic, and I will be getting a bottle to age, and in the meantime, enjoying the aged oil from this imp.

This is amazing at first, and for a split second it reminds me a wee bit of Red Lantern. Then the sweetness amps up. I still get the lovely smoky tobacco note that I love so much, but the dominant scent is sweet - almost grape? Maybe the Chardonnay? Boy that smoky note is sexy though. I had hoped the sweetness might burn off a bit, but it's only amping further. It's so unfortunate because there is something I really like underneath, but it's just too sweet and "grapey" for me.

I can't believe I never bothered to review this! Depraved is one of my top 10 GC's. There is something so perfect about the combo of patchouli and apricot. It's a little dirty, a little sexy, and altogether perfect. Granted, my bottle is beautifully aged. But I remember loving it just as much when I first got it. It's so straightforward, there's not really much to describe. Patchouli (not really gnarly patchouli, but softer, maybe red patchouli?) and sweet apricot. It's not the fresh apricot of Pandy, this is more of a preserved apricot to my nose. I think Depraved is amazing and I intend to never run out of it.

In my mind, knowing what notes I amp, this was going to be dirt and lavender. Which I was totally fine with, as I planned to wear it to bed, and dirt and lavender are two of my fave bedtime scents. But this is just so much more than I ever could have imagined. There's such feeling that accompanies this scent. It's a scent warmed by the sun. It evokes the sounds of a child's laughter (possibly due to the lovely label photo as well) and I honestly can feel the love in this blend. I can't identify the wildflowers, and I don't care. They're beautiful. The grass comes through as well, and it morphs over time. It's freshly cut when the oil is wet, and then as it dries, it's almost as if the grass dries with it. Something sweet emerges over time. The lavender is always in the background, as if there's just a faint whiff of it on the wind. There's an earthiness as well, but not an overwhelming dirt or leaves smell. This is absolutely beautiful and almost makes me cry happy tears, I think as a result of reading Puddin's write up that accompanied the scent. The whole Fatherhood line (the parts that I have) is amazing beyond all expectations. This scent is no exception, and I will treasure it.

Wet - Whoa clove! It smells almost burnt, yet soapy and powdery at the same time. Dry: Spicy fruit. The clove layers beautifully over the currant. It took me a while to figure out what this reminds me of, but it's The Phantom Calliope. Very different notes, but something about the dark fruit and spice lends them a similarity to my nose. I like Calliope better, and I already own it, so I won't need a bottle of this, but it's beautiful in its own right, nonetheless. Glad to have tried it!

Wet this smells like honey-lemon, as others have mentioned. Dry it is nondescript sweetness. Quite nice, but nothing special on me. I do think this would be perfect for layering.
