frimp from the Lab. I'm always intrigued by scents where the notes aren't listed. I didn't read any other reviews before testing, and I wanted to see what I picked out myself without influence. Wet, this smells like black patchouli on me. Not what I was expecting of a scent described as "golden light". I had thought maybe amber or some vanilla??? Once dry - pencil shavings. So cedar, I guess. Pretty much a single note. Huh. Interesting. Not for me though! But glad to have tried it.

This is not like any incense I have ever smelled. Granted, I mostly stick to Myrrh and Frankincense. This is really interesting, and I don't know what to make of it. Super helpful review, right?

Sweet. Bubblegum. Very artificial on me. Not at all my thing.

Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk. Wet - Sweet cloying honey. Sickly sweet and heady. Unfortunately this is too much for me, and I can't let it get to it's dry stage. Even if that were lovely, I wouldn't be able to wear it - wet stage is making me feel really ill. Usually I love honey, so not sure the issue. The wine maybe? Boy, this is potent! I likely would have needed to try this based on the name along. Add Myrrh into the mix, and it went straight on the wishlist. Wet - Lighter, sweeter and more floral than I was expecting. I'm getting mostly the narcissus. It's very light, I'm having to slather on more to get a proper test. As I add more, I'm getting more of the opium. Only the faintest whiffs of Myrrh, which makes me sad. Dry, this is a dark, faint floral. Not what I had anticipated. It's not really doing much for me. It's not bad, by any means, just not exciting.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Maybe Eclipse? bitter almond, vanilla, frankincense and heliotrope, with a drop of cinnamon That was all I could find in the General Catalogue that combined Frankincense, Vanilla and spice. Awesome, thanks a lot! I'll check that out Even if it smells nothing like Eau Duelle, it's gorgeous and worth trying. Welcome to the forum, by the way! -
This is a frimp. I would not have picked this for myself, as I dislike aquatics and fir notes, and REALLY dislike jasmine. None of them are fond of my either. This though. This is....just nothing that I expected. It's all beautiful sweet hyacinth (which it turns out I really love) and a gentle aquatic that is actually not terrible on me. I love sweet florals. I can't get over how pretty this is. Not sure I'll rush out to buy a bottle, but it's still a lovely, unexpected surprise.

I find this very true to it's description, heavy and oppressive. It's much sweeter than I anticipated, and the orchid is the dominant note on me. It's almost too sweet. I like florals, but this one just isn't working for me. ETA: hours later, this is actually really beautiful. I will likely do a full day test to see if I can be patient enough to get past the beginning stages, which are sickly sweet to me. If so, this may even be bottle worthy!

Love Me does not love me. I've tried it a bunch of times, because there's cinnamon in there and I love cinnamon. But the jasmine in this kills it, making it sickly sweet and headache inducing. I amp it like crazy, and the throw is insane. Just a dab and I'm in a cloud of horrid cinnamon-jasmine-cola weirdness. Love Me is not for me, unfortunately.

I so desperately want to love Lurid. I have tested it numerous times. Unfortunately, every time it goes to powder within minutes. Sickly-sweet powder.

I love red musk, and usually like opium, but hadn't tried anything with civet, and wasn't sure what that would smell like, or how it would be with my chemistry. I received this as a frimp, and as always was excited to try something that I may never have picked up for myself. Initially, there's a blast of red musk and some smokiness from the opium. As it settles on my skin, something sweet is amping up. It's giving me a sort of resinous vibe - a bit reminiscent of dragon's blood?? That's weird. But admittedly, I'm not the best at picking out notes. Overall, this is very sweet any heady. It's not bad, but on me I don't think it's good either. There is something almost sickly-sweet about it, and it's off-putting to me.

I recall loving this back in 2006/2007. I had an imp of it from that time. I remember thinking back then that the fig was similar to the fig note in my beloved Freak Show. When I retried it again this year, it was all sweet powder orange. Made no sense, I find fig amps with age. Anyway, I've now tried several newer imps (one fresh from the Lab) and they all smell the same on me, powdery orange. Fake powdery orange. Apparently my skin chemistry has changed. Sad.

frimp from the Lab Citrus is iffy on me. I like it, it doesn't always like me. Usually mandarin is one of the safer choices. Wet - citrus cleaning products. Nice citrus cleaning products, the kind where you use them and think, "mmm that smells nice". Still, I don't really want to smell like it. as it dries, it gets to a stage where it's lovely, bright, fresh, a little sweet, the perfect citrusy floral. Then it reverts back to cleaning products, now with a hint of powder. Then it pretty much just disappears. Can't win 'em all! Happy to have gotten to try it though. This further solidifies my knowledge that I have to be careful with citrus, my skin chemistry just doesn't do it justice.

frimp from the Lab, but it had been on my Wishlist, so I was very excited to receive this. Wet this is so rich and earthy. A little sweet. A little "gritty" in a way that reminds me of patchouli. I do get something that could be coconut husk. As it dries, more and more this reminds me of Goblin, or more like, what I wanted Goblin to be, earthy patchouli and rich sweet coconut. I'm loving it. Once full dry this is a beautiful rich, earthy coconut on me. LOVE. I love coconut so much, and it gets lost in a lot of the Lab's GC blends, on me at least. I am so happy I got to try this, and will be getting a bottle for summer!! ETA: The second time I tried this, it smelled like dry dusty earth with just a hint of coconut - made me really sad. Not sure whether it was a skin thing or an aging/settling thing, but I did not get a bottle after all.

I haven't had a lot of success with the Lab's blends that include peach. I love peach, so I always start out with high hopes. Wet, this is not disappointing. It's a lovely peachy floral, grounded by the oak moss. Good throw at first, too. This lasts surprisingly well for such a light scent. It's one of the nicest fruity florals I've tried thus far. Sweet and fresh. I can see wanting a bottle for Spring/Summer.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!
LizziesLuck replied to CiaoBonefish's topic in Recommendations
Ok, here's what I've come up with (though admittedly, I'm not great at recs based on personality, but I thought I would give it a go) Athens - based on your love of ancient history voluptuous myrrh, golden honey, red wine, and sweet flowers Zombi - based on your love of cemeteries - Dried roses, rose leaf, Spanish moss, oakmoss and deep brown earth Or, you could pick up the LE Graveyard Dirt from the Halloween update Ask The Nearest Hippie - based on your "touch of hippieness" - An olfactory guide, created to assist you in locating nearby hippies: patchouli, hemp, smoky vanilla bean, and cannabis accord. Tombeur - I just think it might suit you based on your description - Deadly and seductive: vanilla-infused sandalwood, blood musk, antique patchouli, vetiver, lavender, bitter almond, amber, and a trickle of Snake Oil. I'm sure others will be able to add more. Welcome to the forum! -
Bruised Violet Compound
LizziesLuck replied to Leopard403's topic in Doc Constantine's Pharmacopoeia
I got a frimp of this, and because of my "must try everything possible" rule, I bravely soldiered on. Violets give me a migraine, so I just dabbed on the tiniest amount and am standing ready to scrub it off. But it doesn't actually smell like violet at first, I get mostly moss and what I think is the patchouli root - doesn't smell like patchouli, smells woodier. Could be a combo of the two, but it's not currant or violet, I can tell you that. It's starting to smell like....buttered bread?? When my I put my nose to my arm it's beyond weird. In the throw there actually is some violet, but not enough that I'm feeling sick yet. I'm still getting a weird, buttery yeasty thing going on too. Huh. Well, I'm going to wash this off before the violets come out and make me sick, but it's actually kind of interesting, and if I was just a little braver I might let it dry completely, but I'm not. -
frimp Wet this is all citrus, which is the gardenia tricking my nose. The creamy vanilla comes out quickly and fights for dominance with the gardenia. Only hints of jasmine (so little that I can tolerate it), and no rose yet. Really interesting! Once it dries, the vanilla fades, and sadly it's mostly just gardenia. Nice, but it doesn't wow me. I will likely pass the imp on.

This is a frimp. I don't like aquatics, but I'm trying it anyway! I'm intrigued by what coral might smell like. It's very light and fresh, despite the description of being "briney" I don't get any salt from it. I can't pick out what might be the coral either. It's actually not terrible. It doesn't make me nauseous. That's about the highest compliment I can give an aquatic. I actually detect something almost creamy in this. It's sort of fascinating. Still, not my thing, but really happy I got to try it!

I really like Shoggoth, and am considering getting a bottle for summer. This is the closest I have found to a "coconut lime" type fragrance from BPAL since Tarot: The Star. The lime is more prominent than the coconut, but I do still think this is a lovely fresh summer scent.

I took a gamble on this one. Wasn't sure about either the immortelle or the magnolia. But love honey and carnation together. Wet, this is gorgeous. I'm just discovering how much I love musks. This one is fab. I get hints of spice from the carnations, but they don't immediately amp and dominate like they sometimes do, they let the other notes sing as well. It's lightly sweet, but not cloying. I don't know what the beautiful floral note I'm getting is, which is sad because I love it and want to own more of it. May even be a combination of the immortelle and magnolia. Either way, it's gorgeous. This may be a new favourite floral. The sandalwood grounds it in an understated way. The patchouli is non-existent on me so far. Overall, this is a gorgeous warm floral, and I'm so glad to have it.

The listed notes are making me do a little dance in anticipation. There is nothing in this that should be remotely iffy on me, and it's glorious in the bottle. Come on, skin chemistry!! Don't ruin this for us!! Wet- Glorious nutty richness, with freakin incense. Ahhmagawd!! This is so good. Oh Myrrh. How I love you. And you're glorious in this, glorious!! I cannot stop huffing my arm. The honey with the Myrrh? And the nuttiness? SWOON!!! So well blended. This makes up for Haloes being a fail on me. Beautiful. This fits right into my collection as the "winter incense blend" I was looking for. I can see reaching for it a lot.

I have a new favourite sugary incense blend - Wezwanie/Hold. Gorgeous honey and Myrrh, with hints of vanilla and rich hazelnut. OMG, so good!!

So excited to try this!! Wet, it smells like laundry at first, and that freaks me out. I HATE that "clean linen" smell, it smells fake to me and makes me nauseous. As it dries, it doesn't smell like laundry anymore, it just pretty much disappears. I only used a tiny amount at first. I reapplied another tiny amount to the same spot, and immediately I got a warm, lightly floral, woody aroma, way better than laundry. I am really undecided about this, and think I need to test it again another day. It wavers between laundry and a nice vanilla, but it's nothing as amazing as what I was expecting after reading all the reviews. Figures my chemistry messes things up for me again....sometimes I think I'll never find a vanilla that works! ETA: I gave this a second chance, knowing that both my tastes and chemistry have changed, and I am so glad I did. It's gorgeous and hoard worthy on me now. I love the oak note, it's so rich and beautiful. The fruit and vanilla is lovely. <3 Smelling this makes me so happy, and I now I will wear the heck out of it in Spring and Summer.
