Swift as Light, Beauteous in Color, Charming in Song
Jenjin replied to aphrodite's topic in BPAL Anniversary
Florals, deepened by musk, I can pull out each of the notes. Golden, orange blossom honey runs through a breezy, sunlit meadow. The magnolia blossoms are full and dripping their nectar, while bees buzz from blossom-to-blossom with their musky, pollen covered legs. Ah, this one is GORGEOUS late springtime. Frolicking through the grassy hillsides with my full, ruffled skirts. Tumbling down the velvet, mallow creaminess and winding up into a beautiful, sunlit fragrance that takes my breath away. Swift as Light is a phoenix masterpiece that I must have. -
The Glimmer of the Northern Lights, The Yellow Flowers of the Greenland Summer
Jenjin replied to TijuanaBible's topic in BPAL Anniversary
Golden, frosty atmospheric start with a bunch of other notes that are very new to me. It is very fruity, sweet lemon, yellow melon, yellow mango syrups swimming in a icy, dark blue glow of something almost electric. This is SO DIFFERENT. I don't have anything in my collection like this, except perhaps Rendezvous in the Bath. Very clean, fresh and bright overall. Just lovely~ -
The florals completely overpower all the other notes for me. Just after application I was hopeful, yet after drydown I'm only getting a Jasmine note and I'm really missing the resins and orange blossom. If you love and can wear Jasmine, do not hesitate. This one is very fresh.

HAPPINESS IN A BOTTLE Light, fresh, and airy, the citrus notes are smoothed over by the saffron vanilla and warm amber. Something about it reminds me of Edith with an extra squeeze of orange. After it settles, it becomes a one-note citrus on me. I'm wishing for a bit more vanilla and depth but this would be lovely for layering. UPDATE: I only have a decant of this, and after a month, I NEED A BOTTLE, MAYBE 2. It undeniably wearable, and on days that I'm not wearing it, I can't get it out of my mind. GORGEOUS!
-
Fortunately, I was surprised with a decant of this, otherwise I would have completely missed it. It was love at first application for me and I rushed to order a bottle. This is a blend that is very deceiving when wet. Bottle sniff is a strong, pine smell with a warm wood back note. Upon the skin, the pine is the first thing floating upwards, but after a few minutes it settles down and the smooth, warm wood notes intensify along with the amber. I'm getting a scent very much like Haloes, but with a gentle pine forest feel. The unicorn lumbering behind the king is warm and glowing like the sun. A King Pursued by a Unicorn is my favorite from the 1 & 2 release. It is incredibly elegant and wearable to me, and warms into almost a caramel vanilla with a bit of sweet pine resin on me. Very haute couture and beautifully blended. If you love Haloes, this is a MUST TRY.

And where should a man bring his sweet to woo But here, where such hundreds were lovers too? Where lie the dead lips that thirst to kiss, The empty hands that their fellows miss, Where the maid and her lover, from sere to green, Sleep bed by bed, with the worm between? For it's turn of the year and All Souls' night, When the dead can hear and the dead have sight. Cold white iris, benzoin, and bitter frozen aldehydes. This is quite unusual. The white iris comes out right away, along with a creaminess. Like the smell of thick, white pearly makeup paint that a ghost might spread across it's cheeks before a spooky, dead dance. I can detect the benzoin blended with the aldehydes which gives it a vintage, almost cold cream feel. My gauzy dress is frozen and won't come off no matter how long you kiss me.

Dusty, dark dried berries and overgrown witches kitchen garden. I get tiny whiffs of woozy, purple poisonous weeds and patchouli. I'm so glad I picked this one! It is a sultry, glistening scent for dark rooms and burning fires. WOW! Editing to add that I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS HASN'T GOTTEN MORE ATTENTION HERE. This is such an incredible scent for all you dark purple berry lovers out there. Run before the weenies are over and get this atmo. It is flipping magical.

The Ghost of a Woman Confronts Her Murderer on a Stormy Night
Jenjin replied to Shel Healy's topic in Halloweenie
The white, sun-bleached cedar note is strongest to my nose along with dirt, patchouli and tar. It's just a bit harsh to me like sticky resin on my hands after handling sappy pine planks. I'm starting to doubt if black musk is something that I can wear. It never goes the way I expect it to, and perhaps what i'm thinking it should smell like, just isn't what it is. The white floral note is cold and doesn't really resonate with the heavy, stormy and resinous notes. I'm imagining this floral represents the woman's ghost and her smite against the person who stole her life. I'm getting a definite conflict. -
Dead Leaves, Raw Leather, Bourbon Vanilla, and Clove
Jenjin replied to puellacaerulea's topic in Halloweenie
Maybe I'm nose confused because I've been testing a bunch of scents today, but I'm really not picking up any leather, clove, or even the typical dead leaves note. It's all blended together into something a bit like vanilla bay rum for me. It's lovely, but if i'm hankering for some smooth, boozy nilla, I have other choices.- 25 replies

Well! Somebody dragged the sticky sappy fir tree into the fire and the flames went out. This is certainly a cold weather weenie. Here in Texas Halloween is sweaty business. It's either smoldering hot, or pouring rain, but NEVER EVER cold. How do I spell it - Przeczucie takes me to the woodlands where the fires burn and the kids run around glistening, evergreen trunks in their costumes. The air is chilly and people are outside drinking hot cider and chopping wood. It's a dream for me, just like this scent. I think I need a bottle of this for my transformation to take place. I want to be there in this thicket, if not in real life, but just beyond on the silver cord.
-
I had to try this! and must say it is highly unusual. The main notes I'm getting are cucumber, craft paste and a teenytiny hint of moth balls. It provides plenty of scent memory triggers such as opening plastic wrapped dyed cloth costumes for the first time and the weird smell that wafts upwards from inside. There is a certain lighthearted quality to it, but not something I could ever pull off wearing without feeling like i'm wearing mildewed britches. After drydown, I am getting something quite pleasant, alot like fresh air blowing through open windows at dusk, but the wet stage simply puts me off way too much. May try it again in a few days to see how it goes.
-
I'm not getting much lunar musk or ambergris from this. It's mostly a salty, ocean air aquatic that is rings with a bright blue note. I'm missing more of a wet stone or wet sand beachy note that I think would ground this and keep it from being so reminiscent of fabric softener sheets, and room fragrance. It is very much like a more musky Sea Foams Milk without the cream and a dash more salt.

The Dead Can Yearn and the Dead Can Smite
Jenjin replied to crimescenecleanup's topic in Halloweenie
Wet, mossy and softly clean smelling, this is just a bit different than I was expecting. It is very fresh and green overall, and i'm searching for the grave note. Herbal forest fresh, the drydown goes beautifully without any bitterness that can happen with agar. I can see this as a unisex scent and with some time, the black musk could deepen and give the balance a bit more depth. I'm not getting too much of it at this point, but can see this aging very well. Quite lovely like a velvety green hillside clearing in a forest.- 2 replies

Very sweet violet comes out just after application of this pink oil. I'm getting a sweet candle wax very much like The Light of Men's Lives mixed with Fleurette's Purple Snails. Any green notes are very fleeting, and after dry down, this goes completely vanilla, violet powdery on me. It has a ton of throw and lasts for hours but sadly, not my jam and reminds me of toiletry products.
-
Yes! I jumped headfirst into this one, mostly because of the opoponax. I'm getting a strong whiff of spray cleaner right away! Yeah, it's minty, soapy industrial and gritty. This is definitely not something i can personally wear, but can certainly see it blowing some minds out there. BOOM~ The leather sits right on top, and it's very refined and upscale in a way. This is black and shiny glistening evil with fangs, and it's pulling me in. There's a clean, scrubbed feeling from it that gives me visions of extremely sexy beasts--oh no! I gotta say if my lover had this on, I would be completely out of control. The End

What a gorgeous blend! I can smell all the notes dancing together perfectly. I can detect the woods, a few evergreen trees, a smoky fire and sugary musk. It's very much like making out with your lover by the fireside, yet beautifully delicate like the wind gently blowing aromatic spruce and oaks. It wears very close to the skin and makes me want a giant jug of it so I can slather it on after a shower or bath. Everyday is my favorite day when I wear this, and it must be with me always

Medicinal, metallic tootsie rolls. I'm already pretty certain as soon as it hits my skin it's not working. Woodsmoke and chocolate scents rarely work for me, and baby reminds me of raku kilns and plastic, brown chewy candy and then something else like wintergreen mixed in that turns into sore muscle cream. My muscles hurt, and I'm binging on tootsie rolls by a fire that went out an hour ago. I'm jealous of the ones that can pull this one off because it is a fun blend

i'm in love with cardamom, tea, cakes, bread you name it I adore whatever it's in. Not sure why I hesitated to pick this up, but I firmly believe that anyone that doesn't like Grotesque, doesn't like cardamom for whatever reason. The spice punch at the beginning is lovely, soft and perfect. Not too sweet or overpowering, with a cake note that sits firmly beneath it and give it a certain creaminess. This is GORGEOUS! I've been looking for something different for fall that doesn't scream pumpkin spice, clove or cinnamon. It never goes plastic or artificial, is perfectly balanced and blended to perfection HOWL~

π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π² 2017 QUESTIONS How do you feel about the following flavors/ingredients: Coconut? Yes Mint? Yes Lavender? Sure Rosewater? Maybe Cardamom? Yes Candied citrus peel/marmalade? Yes Anything to absolutely avoid? I like alot of things but needs to be vegan. Would you like anything crafted for the storage or transport of the BPAL? (Travel imp containers, boxes for 5mls, bottle cozy, etc.) If so, do you prefer them to be plain or decorated? If decorated, are there any motifs or art that you'd particularly like? Someone made a bottle softcase that was SO CUTE! I would love that for travel. Really, any kind of storage would be appreciated. Do you have a strong preference for numbered packages vs randomly picking with maybe a few hints along the way? I have done swaps here with both unnumbered and numbered, and definitely prefer numbered if that's not too difficult. It doesn't have to climax or anything, but it's more fun for me that way... Are you jonesing for any particular BPAL right now? Anything you are just dying to try, even just a sniffie? Yes, I think I updated my bpal wishlist last week to include the latest things i'm wishing for. Just ignore the rares~ We do a lot of baking and holiday good ridiculousness around here...house specialties include lebkuchen (flourless, they're mostly nuts, spices, candied fruit), marzipan, butter caramels (flavored or plain), shortbread crisps, and savory cheese shortbread. Any of these sound appealing? Yes, I'm totally into all of these, even better if they are vegan What are your top places to get a gift card from? BPAL and BPTP Which holiday symbols/themes do you like the best (or least)? Such as Santas, snowflakes, reindeer, etc. I would say Vintage/Retro for sure since we have the aluminum tree and the old world decor. Crystals and lots of sparkle. We also have some evil looking gnomes and Norse/Nordic/Celtic type decor that came from Norway etc. Do you like puzzles? I do like puzzles, but we do not have a place to work on them so I would have to say no. If they are the handheld puzzles, everyone around here loves those. What kind of hot drinks do you like, and if tea or coffee or cocoa or cider or alcohol, give specifics? I LOVE teas, mostly milk oolong, dirty chai, and I getting more into Matcha. I don't drink coffee at all, and love cocoa and mulled cider. I also ADORE sweet wines and cordials like Riesling, Moscato d"Asti, Port, an limonchello. What kind of candles do you like, scent, etc? My favorite candles are woodsy, creamy fig, and earthy smoky vanillas. Mixes or seasonings for the kitchen? I'm crazy for spices, black salt, saffron, barbeque sauce, and Sambal Olek Are you interested in anything from my etsy shop? https://www.etsy.com...winklentwilight OH yes, these are so cute. I think the ones with the zippers would be best for me and I adore japanese fabrics. How do you feel about amigurumi (little crochet stuffies...animals, characters, ornaments, etc.)? These are so cute, but not as an ornament. I have to use super lightweight things on my old tree. I love amigurumi dragons and bats the most. If I were to crochet you something wearable, do you have any preferences? Do you like hats, scarves, gloves, other? And would you prefer something fun and whimsical (e.g. fox face hat or owl mittens), something delicate and pretty (e.g. lacy wraps or scalloped boot cuffs), or just something like a basic, no frills beanie or cowl? Do you have a Ravelry account and a list of favorite patterns? I don't have a Ravelry account unfortunately, but armwarmers would be excellent! What is something new in your life that you wish you had more "things" for? Are you coveting anything currently available from Haus of Gloi? I love Moon Dog pumpkin butter, hair oil and soap, also if the Yules are released early enough, I'm crazy about Three Treasures if that gets released again and I want to try Old Tannenbaum, Ye Olde Cake of Fruit, and Wintervale if that comes back. I do not care for the scrubs or perfumes unfortunately. Are you coveting anything from the Paintbox Soapworks update that just happened? I'm not a fan of their soaps unfortunately, but i'm curious about the scrubs. Are you coveting anything from Cocoa Pink? I just placed a pretty big order from CP so i'm good, but I can always use more linen sprays and/or Ends with Argon Benefits. I'm not really a fan of her shampoos but I'd like to try Soulmate. Do you have feelings about fruitcake? We're talking whiskey soaked homemade fruitcake, not a brick in a festive tin. Yes, if its vegan - sorry, you're gonna see this alot Any strong nail polish and/or makeup preferences? Makeup is pretty simple, but I do stain my lips, wing my eyeliner sometimes, use mascara, cream eyeshadow, claw polish in grays, mauves, indigo, and pale pink, and lip shine. For bath goodies, I like both whipped soap and bar soap equally, along with scrubs. Spray or pouring body oils, hair oils and detanglers. *Lipstick β Iβm a lipstick junkie! Iβm open to trying anything but prefer creamy mattes that arenβt drying. *Mascara β Iβm open to trying colors! My hands down fave is Lancome Hypnose. Second fave is the much cheaper Loreal Paris Voluminous *Nail Polish - Love neutrals, greys, blues, golds, silvers, browns and halos stuff. *Eyeshadow β I only use crΓ¨me eyeshadows, love dark pinks, sparkling browns, and golds. *Eyeliner - I like to use liquid eyeliner in dark teal, brown and black. My main concern is smudging, so if you know of a fab one that doesn't budge bring it on. How do you feel about pomanders? I made so many of these in grade school! I'm sure my family was completely over me and my pomanders. I'm open to them, and would find a place to hang one maybe. How do you feel about savor soaps? Cute stuff! I'm stunned by the sheer amount of people making indie bath products these days. There's always a new one to discover. The cherry things are appealing to me, really i'm open to trying new things. Or Perfectly Posh? If there's something you love, share it with me, but i'm always a bit wary of consultant sites. Favorite animals? I love so many different animals, but animals around the house or on socks and such probably lions, black cats, alpaca, owls, and swans. Weird question, but it's on my mind: Do you have a strong preference for consumables (soaps, candles, food, etc.) over other stuff? Honestly, I don't need any more knick-knacks but I don't want to disappoint. An blown glass ornament for the tree would be amazing tho. I collect the Old World Christmas ornaments, the stranger the better. I don't think I really answered this question tho Would you be interested in one of the Colorpop pallets? Anything else from Colourpop? I cannot do powdered eyeshadow, but am super curious about the liquid colors they are releasing this month. Would you like any holiday music? if so, do you prefer a CD or MP3? I collect vinyl, so if anything records are preferred. We love John Coltrane and other jazzy holiday collections. I've got a few on my Amazon wishlist if you want to check it out. Do you like toffee or fudge? YES, i'm making both of these this year tho. What is something new in your life that you wish you had more "things" for? Not a new thing, but quality pens and other art supplies are always welcome. π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π²π² QUESTIONNAIRE WINTER WONDERINGS Do you celebrate Christmas? 2016 Version Stunning and dark red musk, this is a raven haired witch in a glistening auberdine ball gown crushing fat black grapes with her feet. I picked up this beauty in a swap and upon first wiff, it was an arrow flew straight to my heart. Sweet dark fruit musk with a kiss of sacred wood smoke and a swirl of ritual incense. Beautiful, sultry and an ultimate turn on.
-
Fruity with a sexy, sultry base that I'm guess is the frankincense and black oudh. I love this! It's a gorgeous, grounded, extremely feminine and very wearable. The mallow gives it a cottony, wooly finish that is so cozy and snuggly without going soapy. I'm so glad I blind bottled this one. It's such a fresh, creamy rainbow scent that goes a bit pink musk on me which is very unusual and rare in my collection. One of my favorite Lilith's so far this year.

This one reminded me so much of Europa which was an absolute NO for me. I'm not sure what the notes were that didn't work, but immediately after application the astringent quality made me realize that I just cannot wear this one. Off to a better home. Tag! You're it!

Just after application, I'm getting creamy, sarsaparilla wafts that remind me a root beer hard candy or eeek! sore muscle cream. I'm getting a tiny leather note in the background that ground the herbs overall. The cream is extremely slight and I'm actually wishing for more since this turns totally "chewing on a mouthful of black jellybean" on me. I was hoping for more of a root beer float, but this is WAY too much licorice and strangely POOF disappears after 30 minutes. Sad panda.

Herbal, slightly spicy green aquatic with a tiny bit of ZAP when wet that you get in the air when lightening strikes. It is definitely transformative and I would say unisex. I can see this being EXTREMELY sexy and fresh on a man~where's my husband? I want to cover him in this masterpiece and roll around in a storm

OMG this is beautiful. Oh so sweet, without going wonky bitter or plastic. Er, I got a little on my lips~really, I wasn't trying to eat myself Oh glory, I'm getting the perfect blue cotton candy note COTTON CANDY and it's real! I get NO FAKE artificial sugar back. This is exquisitely sweet and lightly creamy. I really want to smash my heart eyes and face into a swirling circle of spun sugar goodness~need to fan myself and finish this review. Definitely not for me, but I'm grabbing a bottle for my sweet sixteen year old daughter. She is CRAZY for this delicious Devil~
