This is sharp lavendar at first, but once it starts to dry the amber comes out and warms it up a lot. The sharpness of the lavender keeps it from going too soft though - it's like the amber rounds out of the sharp edges of the herby lavender and the lavender keeps the amber from going powdery. I don't need a bottle of this, but it is lovely.

This is what I wish Bread and Butterfly could have been, but ended up going yeasty on me, maybe its the tea - it makes it a little more delicate. Again, the delicacy reminds me of the other Liliths from this year that are about their trip to England. So beautiful.

I am wary of clove, but I thought the smoke element might cut through the clove element here, but this is super licorice on me. If you put your nose right up to it, it's not so licorice, but the throw is very licorice and I can't get past it.

I am in looooove with this scent. First of all, I love gold, and this is a lovely paler gold, but still distinctly gold, not brassy. I keep waving my hands around looking at it when I wear it. I feel classy as f.

Dead Leaves, Chamomile, Red Roses, and White Tea
freyasfae replied to Upstart Crow's topic in Halloweenie
I wanted dead leaves and roses with this. I get no rose in this, mainly dead leaves and chamomile. This makes me sad.- 10 replies

Espresso, pumpkin syrup, smoky vanilla bean, milk, raw sugar, and a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. Le sigh. This is stunning in the bottle. Smokey and toasty with the sweetness of pumpkin spice and vanilla. But on me, it just becomes rather than "a dash" of cinnamon, like the lid fell off the cinnamon shaker and dumped a shite ton of cinnamon into my pumpkin spice latte. I ended up smelling like a fall potpourri blend.

This one was a real bummer for me because it seemed to hit on all my note sweet spots, but alas, it's sweeter than I would like - I wanted a little more autumn night and soot. But most significantly, this fades to nothing on me in no time, which seems absurd since it has musk in it! My skin just eats it up. Oh well, to the swap/sales page for someone else to love.

My BPAL buddy and I made a Weenie order together to get free shipping, and when I first sniffed this bottle, I thought of this is a Sammee scent! She likes these woodys, spicy scents and they smell sooo good on her - they seem to soften on her, while on me they tend to go bitter. Which is happening with this one. It does soften as it dries down and it's incredibly well-blended with this sort of hover of honey, but it's hard for me to get past the initial bitterness.

Arabian musk with two roses and a bevy of Middle Eastern and Indian spices. This smells pretty similar to me as it does on my BPAL buddy, but then musk and rose like me! Really beautiful and sexy scent, like I said the rose and musk are there, but there's no competition with the spices - it is beautifully well blended. Also, this leans more towards a "feminine" scent, but I could see it working very well on a guy.

This smells soft and beautiful on a dear friend of mine, but...I do not like it at all on myself. In fact, I hate it. The woodiness is overwhelming and almost bitter - or maybe that is the frankincense. I washed it off.

Once I have whiffed something before application and do not like it, it's hard for me to get past that scent memory even when it is different on my skin. In the imp, this was intensely sweet, saccharine candy. I mean duh based on the description, but I tried it because I have consistently been surprised by the Liliths that are candy based when blended with florals or herbs - they often end up being girlish, but not like girlish ate too much candy corn and gummi bears and now her tummy hurts. This leans towards that for me. On, the lavendar softens it up as it dries down and the Snake Oil lingers around it, but at it's heart it's ODing on candy with a stomachache.

I finally snagged an imp of this with an awesome swap and swapper! Like many of the champagne scents though, over time this has become allll champagne. I detect something in the background which I believe to be the sweetness of cake and/or frosting, but it's barely discernible to the fizzy champagneness, like I have to get up close and intimate to detect it. As I love BPAL's champagne note, this isn't a total loss, but a bit of a disappointment. Le sigh.

This was a lot like Love from the Pickman Gallery in 2014 on me, which several people mentioned, but I expected it to be more perfumey with the jasmine and bergamot, as opposed to the playdoh quality of Love on me, but it's barely distinguishable on me. It definitely smells more sophisticated, but more often it felt like the more sophisticated jasmine and bergamot were competing with the pink rose and cream innoncence - which perhaps is an apt metaphor for chastity come to think of it...

The lavender in this, combined with the metal makes for a very harsh lavender on me, and not like the herbal sharpness that lavender can have, but a distinct metallic sharpness. Even after drying, it stayed fairly consistent on me, softening just barely.

Really pretty, but won't really wear much. I seem to like red sandalwood, but not actually wearing it. The tart touch from the mandarin helps it not become too perfumy.

I was surprised by how foodie this smelled - not sugary sweet foodie, but exotic baked good foodie which is probably why for an incense-based scent, I didn't find it off-putting like I usually do. The red carnation adds a spicy, floral touch that makes it not as overtly foodie, too.
-
I was surprised this is described as metal, because it was very powdery on me. I think the amber with the musk is overwhelming that sharper aspect of it on me. The metal ended up being more citrusy on me, but the frankincense didn't put me off like it usually does.

I want a BPAL that smells like Bath & Body Works...
freyasfae replied to sihaya09's topic in Recommendations
I have been pleasantly surprised to find a perfume scent at Bath and Body Works that I adore. It's Hello Beautiful which has notes of: Top Notes: Sun-drenched Pomelo, Fuzzy White Nectarine, Italian Mandarin Mid Notes: Night-blooming Jasmine, White Gardenia, Pink Peonies Dry Notes: White Amber, Driftwood, Cotton Musk Usually, BBW is too sweet or fruity for me, but this is a lovely balance of fruit and white/pink florals with this linen quality to it. It's crisp and fresh with pretty pink/white florals. Any recommendations for BPAL perfume oils would be soooo appreciated. -
I guess I was expecting this to be more sultry and less citrus, ginger, warm-colored things. There seems to be a little musk back there, but the ginger just isn't well balanced on me.

I immediately wrote down "BPAL SNOW NOTE" when I first got a whiff of this on my skin. It took awhile, but eventually it settled and it became more incensy and sweet, which I do not enjoy so much. And it has a lot of throw!
-
Oh wow, very woody, reminds me of an old-fashioned cologne, but it doesn't take long for the snow note to sneak in and it takes on an evergreen quality. I am not detecting any clay, it's not quite as decaying house in winter that I imagined as the snow note is overwhelming most everything now, and it smells more like a Yule-ish outdoors scent.

This just smells like hard candies to me, cloyingly sweet with a touch of booziness. Nope.
-
Okay, I really hate the BPAL bay rum note, but the CPs have continously surprised me, and I am on a quest to try them all regardless of what I may think will be a "death note" for me. Yep, still hate the rum, but the sandalwood does give it a less drunken pirate quality and more warmth. But yeah, still doesn't make me like the bay rum note.

Hm, I get the dark, spiced fruit note which I usually don't like, but its awash in citrus which lends it this sour candies quality that I am digging. It makes dark fruits more summer friendly!

Sometimes the sea based scents can be too salty for me, but the floral and pear in this make this a lovely soft scent that is still seafoamy freshness. It works perfectly for me - it is a summery sea scent with white florals and a touch of greenery.
