    Mister Wednesday

In the imp I get something bright and sort of zappy, like a soft, green Lightning. On my skin this sweet ozone-y scent fades and it becomes even greener, and mossy. A nice clean moss scent. As it dries I get some very soft wood underneath. After a bit I get a tiny edge of whisky. Much more understated than I anticipated, but very nice! A sophisticated, woodsy cologne. On my husband it is more woody, almost spicy, and more herbal.

    Languor

In the imp this smells familiar, a classic BPAL sinister white floral. It has some sweetness, but not in a sunny, warm way. It's cool toned. On my skin I get lily up front, and some watery-florals, and something just a touch bitter. As it dries I'm fairly sure I'm getting some poppy, and looking at the notes the opium. It's almost incensy as it dries. Sadly I get no tuberose on me, which is one of my favorites. In the end this doesn't scream floral, on me anyway, despite so many listed. They mingle in that opium-haze, and it's all very sultry and smoky.

    Atsui-Mono

In the botte this smelled like fresh sweet cream, with just a hint of vanilla. Fresh on it was still creamy, but with a brighter, almost floral quality to it. Looking at the notes I think it was the fig and hay combination. Dry it gets much softer and snuggly. I get soft, sweet fig-scented milky tea with a bit of honey sweetness over the top. There's just a bit of that sweet, dusty hay scent around the edges of it. Gorgeous.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

Hi there! I did some thinking and found a few that I think could work for you ☺️ As you're a Leo I must recommend The Lion from the Mad Tea Party: A golden, spiced amber, proud, regal and ferocious. I think Diana from the Independent Shakespeare collection would suit you well, having strong (maybe intimidating at first) leather but warm and a bit softer at the heart with the musks and amber. And it has wildlife connotations: leather, gleaming golden amber, red amaranth, cypress, asphodel accord, a gleam of silver, and soft brown musk. In a similar vein, Heroine: Nepalese amber, East African patchouli, dark musk, apple blossom, petitgrain, aged leather, skin musk, and rhubarb. A feline scent for the black house cat in you, Bast: A desert wind alight with myrrh and golden amber, cardamom and honey, bourbon vanilla and cacao.

    Xiuhtecuhtli

Imp: sweetness and bitterness. Mostly orange and vanilla and plumeria. Wet: more about orange and plumeria. Distinct incense. Smoky and ashy in a really unique way. Dry: The notes, besides that beautiful smoke, are very indistinct now. It's a very sweet smoke, with a humid floral undertone. So unique and beautiful.

    The Robotic Scarab

In the imp: clean, glinting metal. A lightly chemical edge. There's something mineraly-aquatic about it. Wet: the same but more cologne-y. I definitely get the star anise now, but not too liquoricey. I get some frankincense, which is bringing some warmth and keeping this from pulling too fresh/green/aquatic. Dry: Spices and metal. Much more pleasant than that sounds. Golden rather than silver, there's a gently whirring life to it.

    Magus

I was shocked I hadn't reviewed this, it smells so familiar I must have tested before. In the imp: a blast of warm cedar, with a bit of a camphorus edge. Wet: deep warm frankincense, sweet powdery sandalwood, and cedar, but quieter and smoother. Still a bit of an almost medicinal edge (probably the High John and/or galangal?) Dry: I think this is just so familiar because of that magical frankincense, cedar, and sandalwood combo. Once dry those are the main elements on me. Sweet, softly woody and powdery (in a good way), and warm. So comforting.

    Maenad

In the imp: super sweet, syrupy strawberry with some florals I can't identify at the edges. Wet: Strawberry syrup and bubblegum Dry: strawberry bubblegum with a bit of spicy carnation

    Vampire Tears

In the imp: bright, bitter grapefruit, ginger, and honeysuckle. Very fresh. Wet: more jasmine over the grapefruit and ginger. It adds a sultry depth to those bright, zingy notes. Dry: a deep jasmine green tea-earthy greeness with just a touch of heady jasmine floating over it. There is a light edge of ginger and grapefruit around it now, adding just a touch of bitter zing.
  10. And every night, about midnight, I turned the latch of his door and opened it oh so gently! And then, when I had made an opening sufficient for my head, I put in a dark lantern, all closed, closed, that no light shone out, and then I thrust in my head. Oh, you would have laughed to see how cunningly I thrust it in! I moved it slowly very, very slowly, so that I might not disturb the old mans sleep. It took me an hour to place my whole head within the opening so far that I could see him as he lay upon his bed. Ha! would a madman have been so wise as this, And then, when my head was well in the room, I undid the lantern cautiously oh, so cautiously cautiously (for the hinges creaked) I undid it just so much that a single thin ray fell upon the vulture eye. And this I did for seven long nights every night just at midnight but I found the eye always closed; and so it was impossible to do the work; for it was not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye. And every morning, when the day broke, I went boldly into the chamber, and spoke courageously to him, calling him by name in a hearty tone, and inquiring how he has passed the night. So you see he would have been a very profound old man, indeed, to suspect that every night, just at twelve, I looked in upon him while he slept. Midnight observations and false cheer: moon-shrouded indigo musk illuminated by a thin, wavering amber light, punctuated with erratic bursts of nerolis sharp affability. This is definitely going on my list of most favorite scents ever. The amber is deep and warm, and the combination with the musk reminds me somewhat of Haunted. The musk is hard for me to describe but it's cool-toned and narcotic. I get just a little halo of floral from the neroli. It's such a beautiful and addicting scent.

    Scholars' Tower

Man this is gorgeous. This is what I wanted Miskatonic University (Irish Coffee pushed too sweet) to smell like. Soft cedar wood with a beautiful dusty incense. Softly smoky, just a tiny bit of sweetness from the amber. Dry, and bit rough/masculine but not intensely so.

    Mr. Ibis

Intelligent and refined are the first words that come to mind as I sniff this in the imp. It has the papery/dusty quality of an old library, with some depth and woodiness I can't place yet. There's some clean and green elements too. I think the papery greenness must be the papyrus, it's a very lovely note. On the skin it is much fresher, and more green. I get a bit of bitterness which I think is the aloe and some waxy sweet vanilla orchid. The dark, warm notes I think must be the musk lurk in the background very softly. Gorgeous scent!

When the Frost is on the Punkin

In the imp I get fresh pumpkin first, followed by a whiff of chilly green pine or fir. On the skin it's much snowier. Fluffy, chilly, minty snow with a bit of evergreen mixed in. As it sits a warm, spiced pumpkin glows from underneath. Absolutely stunning!

    Boots

I agree with Lucchesa, this is aggressively outdoorsy! Much more rugged than I was expecting, it has the sharpness of fresh wood chips and new leather (but luckily isn't going too chemical on me). I get bright green grass and the lavender hasn't been drowned out by the other notes either, but here isn't very soothing but rather adding the outdoorsy feel.

    Frostbitten TKO

A beautiful marriage of TKO and Snow White's fluffy snow. The snow actually tempers the sweetness of TKO a bit and just makes it fluffier and wispier with a tiny bit of coolness. So lovely.

    Allodoxaphobia

Fear of Opinions The discordant clang of silverware punctuates another heated rant, and Uncle Elliot whips out his phone to underscore his point with a Facebook meme he saw earlier in the day. Flecks of cranberry sauce spatter the table as a fist pounds in anger: a boisterous, conflicted, bombastic lather of red pepper, boiled cranberries, and bergamot. Very juicy cranberry scent. As it dries I get more red pepper which spices up the scent and makes it more festive. Like a new twist on the classic cranberry cinnamon combo. Not specifically getting bergamot but it could be adding some brightness. The throw is fairly low, but I don't mind as it could be overwhelming if it was too strong. Soft, but bright and cheerful.

    Maiden

I get a beautiful wispy pink rose that paired with the spicy carnation is a bit fluffy and makes me think of High-Strung Daisies a bit. But the bright, almost citrusy white tea really sets this apart, and the carnation is much spicier.

    Vicomte de Valmont

A very airy cologne. I don't get the florals very distinctly, except for some heady threads of orange blossoms now and then. I definitely get a woody, powdery sandalwood base, and the clean greenness of Spanish moss and the warm, herbal green of rosemary. These are the major components of the scent to my nose.

    Elf

Well I had a whole bottle of this eight or so years ago, so in a way this smells very nostalgic to me. It is a very soft forest scent, I get something distinctly like birch in this. The florals help make it soft and welcoming, the parma violet is quite nice and doesn't go musty candy on me as violet tends to. The base is lightly sweet because of the honeycomb and amber, these and the musk feel like streams of sunlight through the branches. The whole effect is warm, golden, and sparkling.

Cafe au Lait & a Wool Blanket

Fresh on my skin I get cozy milky coffee and a whiff of something like almond extract- sort of amaretto-ish. Then the fluffy, cleanish wool comes in. So comforting. Vanillaish (maybe tonka?) and a bit creamy with the milk. Just a bit of roasty coffee at the edges of the scent. Like a perfect Sunday morning.

    Belle Vinu

At first this is all peach, very sweet and threatens to go peach candy on my skin for a moment. The sandalwood and rosewood quickly swoop in to ground the scent however. Don't get much of the floral on my skin, but the vanilla picks up towards the end. The rosewood and powdery sandalwood make an interesting pair with the peach, very feminine and youthful.

    The Lady of Shalott

Gorgeous airy aquatic. It's clean in a non-soapy way, very light and bright. The gardenia is very soft, not very heady. It blends with the soft sweet water blossoms (hyacinth and sweet pea like) very well. Cool and ethereal. Something about this makes me think of a very early summer morning, when the air is still cool and there is a wash of dew over everything.
  23. I think Peacock Queen's rose is quite similar to Whip's, deep red and velvety. I haven't tried Bear Prince yet but have heard a lot of love for that one!

    The Poinsettia Gown

At first this smells a lot like La Folie from the Lupers, all sweet jasmine cream. But once on the skin a soft creamy pink rose joins, and the amber really grounds the whole blend. Soft, feminine and floral, but the creaminess brings it into a wintry realm.

    A World of One Color

In the bottle I get super soft cedar and ambergris, with a bright note that smells sort of citrusy. Once on the skin I wonder if it is part of the ice musk. This is unlike any ambergris scent I have. There's a warm homey feel from the ambergris, cedar, and coconut, but the frost and ice musk are so chilling over the top! A super accurate cold wind, not minty or citrusy but purely cold. So unique and atmospheric, but very wearable
