I am a chemist, biologist, and amateur astrophysicist, and love all science. I'm interested in just about all things outdoors: hiking, backpacking, snowboarding, dirt biking, etc. I love reading and writing - especially SF/F. And I really enjoy making things: crochet/knit, beading, painting, collage... the only craft I've met that I don't like is machine sewing.

Nope, nope, nope. In the imp it wasn't so bad, but once on my skin it was awful. Somehow it smelled to me like smokey lime - in a putrid sort of way rather than a salsa sort of way. I can see how one might compare it to cat pee. Yuck. Definitely not for me.

This one is quite nice. It smells exactly like a dried bouquet of white roses from my baptism that I kept for 10 years. Yep, smells like those when they crumbled apart And I couldn't keep them anymore. My SO says it smells like soap, not bad, but not particularly appealing either. I'll au least be using up the imp.

    Sed Non Satiata

Very sweet. Very, very, very sweet. Initially, it was so cloyingly sweet that I was wishing I hadn't put it on. After a little time it's not quite so bad, but still definitely not for me.

    Snake Oil

Got this scent to see what all the fuss is about. I like it... but that's all. It's not anything particularly amazing. It doesn't put me off, but it doesn't draw me in either. My undiscerning nose can definitely tell there's vanilla, sort of like a vanilla-oak candle I used to have. Very much meh.

    Spellbound

I love this one, it smells just like an old incense I used have that I liked... that my SO couldn't stand. Unfortunately, he had the same reaction to this perfume. When pressed for comment he said, "Smells like I'm standing in the middle of head-high flowers that are attacking and whacking me in the face." So, take that as you will: Spellbound is incense to my nose, aggressive flowers to another's.

I really wanted to like this, I really did, and the description certainly caught my imagination. Alas, as minutes passed since application, it turned quite unpleasant. It is rather similar, but less pleasing in my opinion, than Thanatopsis.

Woah, is this floral. I'm not good at identifying notes, so I won't even try. I could see this working as a nice perfume on some people, but most definitely not on me.

    Black Forest

I had contemplated getting a bottle of this unsniffed. In the end I chickened out and ordered a set of imps to try, including this one, just in case. I shouldn't have worried, this was definitely bottle-worthy. While I was seriously concerned about how Pine-sol-y this smelled in the imp, once I put it on, it was positively beautiful. Slightly lighter than Troll, and the overall evergreen smell mingles very well with the muskiness instead of evaporating too quickly. This reminds me very much of the wilderness I backpacked through just a couple weeks ago - very piney/junipery, slightly damp and dirty/mossy. My favorite so far.

    Thanatopsis

Ooooh, I really like this one. It's lighter than Black Forest, and for some reason reminds me of my local Renaissance Festival. Didn't change too much over wear. Hippy-ish, I think it suits me. Though I like Black Forest better, this one is also a keeper.

    The Jersey Devil

Out of the imp, I really enjoy this smell, mostly pine, but with some other nice notes to round it out. On my skin, it stayed nice for about five minutes. And then the cranberry dominated. It's been so long since I've done much with scents that I forgot how sensitive I am to cranberry smell. I'm sad, because this was a nice scent for a bit, but I simply cannot do the berry. I tried to wash it off, then avoided wafting my forearm near my face for a while.

I've found I really like pine smells, so I was looking forward to this. In the imp and for the first five minutes or so on my skin, the pine is the strongest note, which makes me happy. But after those first couple minutes, it turned into a medicinal-orange smell and stayed there. Not appealing at all, and actually a bit stomach-turning. Not for me.

    Loup Garou

I liked the pine and juniper smell I got out of the imp. Once I put it on my skin, the eucalyptus got steadily stronger. It's not bad at all, though it does smell rather a lot like a cough drop. Not my favorite, but worth keeping.

    Evil

I got this imp as a free addition to my order, which was a nice surprise. Upon first smell, my first impression is that Evil smells... rich. If you were to ask me what wealth smelled like, I'd tell you it smells like this perfume. After putting it on, it smells slightly floral, but deep, retaining that 'rich' scent, but also turning 'old' smelling. You know what image comes to mind here? The Dowager Countess of Grantham from Downton Abbey. I think this perfume is exactly what she would smell like. After a little while, the smell has gotten to the point where it's turning my stomach, so definitely not for me, but worth trying.

I got this imp as a free addition to my order, which was a lovely surprise. I went to go try this, but after smelling it in the imp, there's no way I'm putting this on my skin. The stuff that got on my fingers is more than enough. While it's not an unpleasant smell, I wouldn't really call it pleasant either. I can smell the lime-ish aftershave, the metal and oil, maybe the cloth-y stuff too (I'm no expert sniffer). My husband says it smells like sweat. Overall, it reminds me of my granddad - nice as far as nostalgia, but not something I'm ever going to wear.

    Troll

First BPAL scent I've ever tried. I was worried about how Pine-Sol-ey it smelled when I sniffed straight out of the imp, but once I put it on my skin... It was still brightly piney (almost minty in quality), with some deeper notes to round it out. As it dried it the straight-up-pine smell dissipated, leaving the earthy smell of the forest floor. Like I decided to go camping and laid laid right on the ground. It's not really the sun-warmed-pine-needles-on-the-dirt smell I've been looking for, but it's still lovely. Definitely a keeper.
