Wow, I can't believe this one isn't getting more love! This is one of my favorites of this release. Probably the most beautiful, smooth white musks I've ever smelled. It starts off with that sweet, soft pomegranate, but doesn't go weird on me like a lot of pomegranate scents do. The pom then fades off for me, and leaves behind that glorious smooth white musk. For some reason at this stage it reminds me of how I want those soft white rocks you find at the beach to smell. No salt, just smooth, soft, white. I love this one so much - I need backups of it.

It looks like you like both sweet/vanilla-y foodies and florals (or at least roses). De Vos's Unicorn is a good sugared/creamy floral that I definitely recommend (I think it might be my fave of the unicorns). Others you might want to try: [/size] Allegory of Chastity - another of the recently discontinued Unicorns. This one's a rose/vanilla cream/jasmine combo. A lot of people find it very similar to De Vos (which is apricot, rose, lavender, white musk, and marshmallow), but on me it was a strongly floral sweet rose that was completely different from De Vos's ethereal fruity-floral-pastel-marshmallow scent. It's the only jasmine that's never gone bad on me. Eat Me - (GC) vanilla cake and black current. If you like Cake Smash, it may be worth a try. Bastet - (GC) amber, "Egyptian musk," saffron, cardamon, myrrh, almond, and lotus. Hellcat is basically pure almond extract on me - Bastet is a slightly more complex scent while still having a predominant almond note. Eden - (GC) Fig, almond, coconut, and sandalwood. Another almond-heavy scent that's nearly as sweet as Hellcat. Poor Monkey - Currently-available Yule LE. If Kurukulla is more lotus than rose on you, you may like this one - it's a creamy fig/vanilla/lotus/ylang ylang combo with a strong lotus note, like crisp, juicy fruit. The Bear Prince - another current Yule. I've never tried this one, but it's apparently a soft rose with a sweet snow note and fuzzy musk and a lot of people really love it. Thanks for the great reply! I've been eyeing Eat Me for a while actually, but never knew what currant was supposed to smell like. Maybe I'll try to snag that and a couple others you mentioned! -

Hi! Cake Smash was not discontinued, it was a limited edition, meaning it was only ever meant to be available for a limited time. Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab puts out Limitied Edition updates all the time - for instance: Halloween, Motherhood, Yules, Lupercalia and lots of other smaller updates in between. Cake Smash is from 2009, and was released as a "forum only" scent, meaning you had to be a member of this forum to purchase it. If I remember correctly, it was in honour of Beth (creator of BPAL) and Ted's daughter Lilith (I want to say her first birthday? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.). Later on, they began releasing whole updates in honour of their daughter (often called the Liliths, this year they were called Motherhood) each year around her birthday, which were available to everyone and not just the forum. This year's Motherhood line was just taken down not too long ago. Currently, Yules, Anniversaries (Phoenixes) and Weenies are all still available, with the Weens and Phoenixes set to go down on the 14th. Beth has explained that BPAL focuses on Limited Edition runs, because perfume components are often difficult to find a supplier for, long term. So they might make a scent, and a few months later not be able to get all the components. Having set limited edition runs allows them to release the perfumes they want, without fear of ticking people off with it's discon'd a few months down the road. This way everyone knows if something is LE, it's only around for a short while. Most Limited Edition scents do not return. There are a few (mostly Yule, Weenie and Luper) that "re-occur" yearly, or every few years. I have never seen any of the Liliths, or any forum only scents be brought back, so it is not likely that Cake Smash will ever make a return, but not impossible either. Your best bet is to snag a bottle second hand, here on the forum, in one of the Facebook groups, or on eBay. Cake Smash is a bit rare, but not so rare that it doesn't come up sometimes, you just have to keep an eye out for it. Hope that helps! And Welcome! Thanks for such a detailed reply, wow! Thankfully I was able to get a bottle from the FB group (after being lucky enough to snag a decant - what are the odds?). I would pray that it gets rereleased, but...yeah. I've seen a lot of well loved scents get DC'd or never rereleased because of component issues, which sucks. -

I'm interested to play this game! Help me down the rabbit hole please my top 5 so far are: Cake Smash (This is the first scent that is not completely foody or completely floral that I love to death!) Marie (This is a bit overwhelming for me, but I think I'm slathering too much - plus it's lovely layered with a vanilla) Kurukulla Hellcat White Chocolate Mango Buttercream (I know others say this goes sharp on them, but this is a pretty soft fruity scent on me - I don't like scents that are super overwhelmingly fruity.) I also have samples/decants of O, Dorian, Des Vos Unicorn, and some Snake Oil from 2011 coming my way that I think I'll like as well...any other recs? LE or GC, I'm willing to go on a hunt! -

Can anyone tell me the story of Cake Smash (or any of the much loved DC'd scents that everyone goes crazy for)? When/why did it come out? When/why did it get DC'd? Or, in the case of some of the other scents, will it ever come back?
