    A Noiseless Patient Spider

I am very fortunate to have picked up a bottle of this secondhand. It is gorgeous. In the bottle the cognac is more present along with a more fresh herbal leaning. This dries to a warm, lightly spiced, slightly nutty, vanillic musk that doesn't venture into foodie territory. I don't get much lavender as a strong note. I think the sandalwood is more dominant. The tonka, myrrh, and cognac seem to be smoothing things over and keeping the sandalwood from venturing into soap territory. The other notes seem to add to this rather than standing out on their own. very warm and comforting.

    Bringer of Evil

absolutely gorgeous. for me this is not about the grapefruit at all. The citrusy notes are more present in the wet phase, not like grapefruit peel but more like sweet grapefruit. Then the floral notes come out more in the drydown and this becomes a high end designer perfume. No one floral comes out particularly strong. I think they must be blending seamlessly with the blue musk. A definite stunner and very glad I snagged a bottle before weenies came down.

    The Shimmering Mirror

@ghoulnextdoor this may be it! https://internetshakespeare.uvic.ca/doc/Brudermord_M/index.html This is as others have stated very hard to pin down but gorgeous and very very well blended. In the bottle and freshly applied this comes across to me as like a department store scent. To me it comes across as more cologne/gender neutral at first mostly because i’m reminded of a specific scent that I can’t remember. Even though I get this vibe I still agree that sensuous or silky is a good description for the feel of this blend. As this is drying the pine definitely comes out more, agreed “brocade” is a good way to put it because it’s not an evergreen or even green blend. It’s more red to me. Like the scent of pine needles after walking through a forest or a comforting blanket that smells like pine sap and other beautiful things. great throw and seems to have good lasting power.

    Nyx, Night Goddess

this is only two days rested so this may have an impact. as an avid frankincense lover i was very excited to purchase this. in the bottle i get a hint of frankincense and a lot of a cola like note i usually associate with labdanum. i’m guessing this could be part of the amber. freshly on and into the drydown this is all about the syrupy black amber. i feel like the other notes are contributing to the amber to support it rather than coming through on their own. i don’t get much oud at this point for those worried about that. it’s not too powdery on me and i usually will amp powdery aspects. all about the amber for now, but i’m looking forward to retesting in the future and seeing how this ages. ETA 7/18/24***this has been resting for a few months and i’m retesting tonight. the cola quality is very toned down now, but still present in the background, turning this into gorgeous slinky black amber resins. throw is on the lower side but i can’t stop huffing it. great scent for getting close occasions. it all blends really well. i don’t get the oudh per se but this does have a caramelized resins aspect.

Milk, Burnt Honey, And Ambrette Seed

honestly this is one of the greatest honey blends i’ve tried from bpal. i tested a smidge of oil that got on the decant paper and it’s SO strong and soooo good. not as foodie as i was expecting from the milk-honey combo. it was slightly creamier and nuttier in the bottle but once applied to the skin the honey definitely comes out to shine. it’s very evocative of dark, golden, caramelized floral honey. does not go at all plasticky on me as some honeys have done. an absolute stunner

    Vintage Ghost Blow Mold

a really gorgeous, light and sweet scent. in the bottle this is very buttery, but as it goes on the butteriness settles into a sleeker, more marshmallow-esque sweetness. i feel like the amber and plastic may be adding a touch of cleanness to this, so it almost smells like marshmallows and clean laundry (not in a soapy or generic detergent type of way). this comes out more throughout the drydown, with the candy corn decreasing in strength but remaining to give some body and sweetness and keeping the other notes in check.

Black Pepper, Palo Santo, and Vetiver

i agree with the other review that this gives the vibes of incense ash. in the bottle it's almost spicy. freshly applied the spiciness dissipates. on the skin this is a beautiful, slightly clean incense blend. the vetiver doesn't come out strongly like it sometimes can, this is very well blended clean warm woods.

    Koi No Yatsufuji

super well blended. fruity red musk in the bottle and a gorgeous, resinous, deep red musk on the skin. hard to pick out any individual notes that are the strongest players. i think the frankincense comes out a bit for me. maybe the plum, which to my nose can give some perfuminess to a blend. definitely a very majestic velvet red musk blend that would be a great "extravagant night out in an evening gown" scent, or to evoke that feeling.

    Wayfaring Stranger

Definitely very scary in the bottle. sniffing the bottle, this smells at first to me like very strong body odor. i was like hmmmm at first but after rechecking the notes and resniffing, i definitely agree with other reviews that that's the whiskey coming out strongly. on a re-sniff it definitely gives me the vibes of the whiskey from the weed and whiskey duet which i adore but it also very boozy/medicinal in the bottle. after application some of the other notes come out, with the candlewax being the strongest, supported by the tobacco and coconut shells. stays slightly mentholic from the whiskey when freshly applied but the notes blend really well together. i'm really looking forward to seeing how this ages

    No Longer Can I Resist

this one was a lot fruitier on first sniff than i was expecting. i think it must be the red musk blending with the other notes to kind of take central role in the bottle, which i am very much in love with. ETA after trying this again the fruitiness is definitely the red musk! surprisingly the orris does not come out too strong for me in the bottle or freshly applied, it remains to be seen if it will come out more throughout the wear time. when freshly applied the narcissus seems to be the most dominant note alongside the musk. goes from very red and sweet in the bottle to a more golden, rich floral supported by the red musk. as this dries it becomes a touch more powdery. definitely not in a baby powder but more like dried flowers rather than the fresh narcissus bouquet it is while fresh. maybe that’s the orris coming out more or blending with narcissus.

    Poet's Hearts Break So

this is all about the violet/bergamot in the bottle and freshly applied. definitely evokes a cool "porcelain" type of vibe. the vanilla and red musk bloom on the skin. as others have noted it's not really a foodie vanilla but more so that the blend take on a vanillic-red muskiness as it settles on the skin. the red musk really is just a trickle but enough to add a lovely complexity to the violet-bergamot combo.

    Myrrh, Black Amber, and Teakwood

strong teakwood and myrrh when sniffed in the bottle. teakwood is sweet and borderline cologne-leaning to my nose, with the myrrh adding additional sweet resiny powderiness (myrrh tends to go powdery on me- in a pleasant way and not a "baby powder"/soap way). freshly applied this is very true to the in the bottle scent but now has unfolded. it goes from concentrated, sweet body powder in the bottle to a cozy, closer to the skin, blend of resinous amber. smells good af. pretty low to moderate throw.

    Krampus' Chains

definitely agree with the last few reviews. very snuggly and powdery. i assumed the rusty musk would be a red musk but sniffing the bottle it seems like it may actually be more of a black musk based on how powdery it smells (black musk on me is very powdery). i’m guessing that’s also the myrrh coming through. on at first is very warm, powdery, and golden. not in a baby powder way, i agree with other reviews calling it “snuggly”. i’m not getting an orange note myself. i also don’t detect much of the tobacco chewiness. as it dries the powderiness tones down just a touch, just enough to allow some of the licorice to come through without becoming licorice candy. it’s not too sweet, it actually kind of cuts through the snuggliness to give kind of the vibe of metal/rust coming through. i adore this. definitely much less scary than i was expecting based on previous experience with the scent krampus that is very bold, woody, and red musky. this is a much gentler, quieter krampus wearing a christmas sweater

Wolf Moon: Lupine Musk & Ambrette Seed Hair Gloss

this smells soooo good. fresh from the mailbox so an unrested impression. it’s definitely very musky and well-blended. there’s something almost camphoraceous when wet, but it warms up as it dries so it’s like a little hint of forest in some fur. i feel like i’m getting hints of dried grasses, hay, and flowers as well as this dries but nothing is coming out strongly as a recognizable or dominant note (definitely a musky scent and not a floral/green scent but like those may some part of the musk). just super well blended musk with a touch of sweet powderiness. i applied a test patch like a perfume on my wrist and can’t stop huffing it

    Congealed Blood & Oozing Viscera

i could not wait to get a bottle of this. i was hoping for something like vital fluid based on the reviews. this is not at all what i was expecting. fresh from the mailbox so i will def have to retest but first impressions in the bottle i can detect the bandaid all the other reviews are mentioning, very spot on. freshly applied the bandaid note does morph in a way, it’s almost still there in some way but other notes are coming through to change it from bandaid to something vaguely foodie and familiar on me. as it dries it becomes almost like a root beer on me. it’s not root beer as in a fizzy pop root beer type of note but definitely a root beer/cola like vibe, sort of in a medicinal way like birch. smells sort of cold, almost like a snow or frozen note but possibly in a surgical way. very atmospheric definitely continues to tone down and blend into the drydown. i will be retesting at a later date to see how things settle but atm this is reminding me strongly of the 2006 weenie carpathian mountains.

Bullfinch and Weeping Cherry (Uso, Shidarezakura)

bullfinch scared me at first because in the bottle this smells very soapy. that is sometimes how cberry blossom seems to go for me so i was expecting it to take that turn. much to my surprise and delight, upon application bullfinch blossoms into an absolutely gorgeous white floral musk. it’s really well blended, with the cherry blossoms coming to the forefront as the most recognizable note. the other notes don’t seem to come out on their own, but blend seamlessly to give the vibe of a department store perfume. very much a pink/white floral musk. sadly my skin eats this up. it’s almost completely undetectable on the skin after about an hour of wear, although my clothes abosrbwd the oil where i applied it and the scent lasted on them for much longer, with a crazy strong throw.

    Nyx

i’m testing a frimp i received. nyx is super strong and super perfumey. freshly applied i thought this seemed like a green floral at first. i’m strongly reminded of the lab’s daffodil note which comes across to me as green in a perfumey way, like not grassy or herbal but sweet green floral. upon checking the note list i can see it’s jasmine coming out loud and proud out of the gates. def agree with some of the other reviews that it’s like an elevated jasmine. the rose seems to be adding some sweetness without being identifiable to me as a note on its own. the myrrh seems to come out more into the drydown, taking this from the jasmine show to a sweet, powdery, floral tinted department store perfume. throw is strong af. i swiped the imp stick twice across my wrist and distributed that to my other wrist. even with that amount it was basically all i could smell the first half hour. in a like “what is that smell? oh damn it’s me!🖤” kind of way

    La Ronde du Sabbat

this is honestly one of my top ten bpals. i agree with some other reviews that this is all about the frankincense with some added spice from the clove. the clove and tobacco aren’t very prominent on their own but give the frankincense a really gorgeous base to shine from. the clove is more of a suggestion of spice than anything else but compliments the frankincense beautifully. this lasts forever on me, after 8+ hours a hint of it is still there

    Dance of the Nymphs

i was very intrigued by this note list and excited to test this. so it's only been a day out of the mail. i wasn't sure what vibe to expect. the only thing that was a potential no for me was the raw leather aspect, but for leather ampers like myself have no worries because the leather doesn't amp for me here. it's actually barely noticeable at all for me, i completely forgot it was in the note list until rechecking after application. in the bottle this smells like celery seed. i suspect this is the mushroom because once applied it goes from celery to like a yeasty greenness. it's definitely very green, but not fresh cut grass or leafy green. more like a green musk. to my nose, i would say this veers masculine in the sense that it's well blended and gives off more of a cologney vibe rather than a sweet perfume. i would guess that's the sandalwood or oak adding a little base but neither one is really detectable on their own. after an hour or so the yeastiness fades away leaving the musky green cologne and omg this scent is so good. it's got a moderate throw and it laaaasts all day on me, 6 hours before the throw starts to fade and by 8 hours it's fading but still faintly detectable on the skin (my skin eats perfume so this is a long last for me). another well-blended painting, 10/10

    Chellah v4

i received chellah v4 as a frottle. i am super intrigued by it and trying it on fresh from the mail, so it may need some resting time to fully come out. so far, other reviews are spot on about the dirt note. in the bottle this is fresh, crumbly dirt with streaks of something greenish/leafy. freshly applied the dirt stays very present, but as it dries there is definitely a sweetness of something else underneath the dirt, but the dirt note is so strong and fresh that it's really tough to ID. maddening, but in a pleasant way. the dirt note does fade somewhat as this dries to a more dusty top note at 10 minutes into the drydown, leaving a very warm, musky scent. really beautiful but well blended and hard to pin down. looking forward to retesting after some settling time

Old Buddhist Monk Penetrating a Rapturous Skeleton

the orris is very strong in this initially. when i first received it in the mail it was all i could smell in the bottle. after some resting i still get a strong bloom of fresh orris upon application, which fades to a powdery, soft, gentle orris base backed by the other woods. i agree with other reviews that the sandalwood is probs the most prominent. it's a very golden and powdery sandalwood, with no real piney or balsamy-ness from the balsam and no headshop champa for me in the freshly applied drydown stage. light throw, but it makes it a very snuggly up-close skin scent.

    Crossroads

i get strong florals from this, heavy on the jasmine and honeysuckle at first. settles to a strong but well blended florally musk. more floral than green or graveyard dirt for me. as a floral lover this is lovely.

    The Queen and the Page

I'm surprised this doesn't have more love in the reviews. This is super gorgeous. It's very well blended but I think the frankincense is the most prominent in the bottle. It's very syrupy, and the way it blends with the pines and mosses seems almost citrusy in a really delicious, almost foodie way without smelling like an actual food. The citrusy aspect fades as this dries down and it becomes more golden sandalwood and vanillic resins and greenery. Strong throw and good lasting power. ETA i think the amber silk come out for me as a thread of sweetness, almost floral-sweet but definitely not floral, that kind of ties the whole blend together and outlasts the other notes

    Gioco Del Volano

i picked this up hoping it would be similar to mysterious garden, ie a perfumey scent. it is perfumey although there are definitely differences between the two blends. this strongly reminds me of mr. hex’s black cat, which is i believe a dupe of black opium? i’ve never tried black opium but this def reminds of black cat. maybe a little lighter and less cloying

    An Orchard in Spring

i picked up this blend due to the reviews mentioning “crimson blossoms”= red musk. i don’t get much red musk, or even really anything like “crimson blossoms”, or even any lilac. this is all about the apple. it’s a really pretty apple blend, but i’ll be revisiting this sometime in the future to see if any red musk pops out ETA 1/23/24: retesting this, the apple is a little less dominant. It's very sweet and golden on application, as opposed to the more tart/fresh/green version of apple if that makes sense. After an hour or so the apple fades somewhat and the lilac comes more to the forefront. Still very fruity when I sniff it but there's definitely a hint of the sweeter base notes underneath
