The 54th Level of Bliss. On first whiff, this was overwhelming and blow-you-away cherry. Bubblegum? Nuh, boy, this is a nuclear powered lollipop on crack. And then, ah, and then. Out erupts a smokey sort of musk laced with dirty, whorish little florals that just burn down on the sweetness, making it harder, making it a little more mature now, making it a little sweaty on the belly and sticky on the thighs. It just continues to deepen until I'm left with a scent that smells so rich, so divine, and so damned naughty that I feel like a red princess or a someone's high end whore-maybe, in the right universe, both! How something can be so rich and classy and so wickedly naughty at the same time, I have no clue, but it's genius. Yummy, red, rich genius. Please, someone, tell me that this one will come back from time to time. It's too delightful to be a once in a lifetime bottle. *sniffs & drools* ~Wench

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
pkwench replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
Another thought, benadryl and such aside, would be to wash it off instantly if you feel it start to burn. And I've read so many wonderful ideas about scent lockets and such on this forum that, even if you can't have that oil on your skin, you may well indeed be able to enjoy the fragrance. It's a thought anyway! -
Oils to relax, calm, soothe, restore your sanity...
pkwench replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
I find Snow White, Sudha Segara, and The Hesperides to be very calming and soothing. I particularly like the first two for bedtime. Nine Mysteries, I must say, makes the BEST soothing bath. I dumped half an imp of it into the tub and could not easily make myself get out. I need more for bathtime and eagerly awaite the day when I can buy a big bottle of it. I'm dying to make Nine Mysteries bath salts. I also have a custom blend from Dragonfly Blue that puts me in my happy spot for sleep. It's delish. -
Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

I suppose it would depend upon how strong your allergy is. Best bet? Have a benadryl on hand JUST in case! -
Zombi First impression was "Dirt!" Then when I put it on, I amended that to "potting soil" and the good, dark, rich kind at that. Now that it's dried down, it's potting soil with a little twinge of something musky, and the faint hint of a dead rose. I don't know if anyone will get the comparison, but it reminds me of how Raistlin's smell was always described in the Dragonlance books. Something musty, something earthy, something perhaps dried and dead ... but still fairly pleasing at that.

You said it just exactly. JackII is both holy and divine. If I could stop smelling myself and then sighing long enough to thin, I might be able to formulate a quasi-helpful review. Right now all I can say is: "Good God, Beth, you're BRILLIANT." I smell so good. I have to go find something to mop up the drool with now, Pardon.

It smells to me a lot like yew. The longer I have it on, the more the freshness and warmth creep up. It started out very strong and astringent. Then it went through a phase which smelled a little like something had peed on me-that was the yew smell starting to emerge, I think. I think after a while the yew-yness will calm down a bit, but it's just not quite for me. I think it would smell very nice on the S.O., but I don't know if he'd like it. It might be too evergreeny for him. Hmm. Edited: I've taken to liking this one after all of this time. I got a second imp as a freebie and this time around it appeals to me more. I don't know if my body chemistry has changed or if my tastes have just expanded after 6 more months of Bpal glory. There's something very, very dark, yes, when I put it on. It's almost unpleasant. But, weirdly, it morphs into a smell that I find very comforting.

Hymn Vial: Smokey floral. And it's a rather thick oil too! Wet: Very floral with a rose overtone. After wearing this for about 40 minutes or so, it's basically a light, rose and floral perfume for me. A bit of a soapy rose, but that's just my skin for you. It's sweet, but not for me.
-
Goneril Vial: A little bit of something medecinal, a little bit of bitter wood, and maybe a tinge of mint. Wet: It's suddenly, just very, very GREEN! After 10: Still green and now very, very floral with that kicked up herby thing going on. After 20: It's floral. Very fresh and now the cedarwood is creeping out, which helps it a lot, but it's still predominately floral on me. To be fair, I have Carnivale on the other hand and I love it so much that I think it ruined my nose for this one. LOL

Carnivale Vial: I couldn't identify the scent at first, though it seemed somehow familiar. Upon reading the list of components, I realize that what I'm smelling is carnation. Spicey, jazzed up carnation. And it's pretty darn nifty. Skin: Amber jumped out from behind the carnation almost immediately here, which is strange considering that amber's usually a late bloomer on me. After 10: Wow, this is lovely. It's all warm, spiced amber and carnation over coy florals. I hope that the warmth and spice lingers! After 20: This is so damned fine. God, who knew that carnation could smell like this? Well, Beth, that's who! God, I want to bathe in it! The creamyness of it, the amber, the carnation, ah, I love it ALL. Oh, yeah, this one's headed for the big bottle list.

Forbidden Fruit Vial: Bubblegum, bubblegum in a shoe. I smell some lotus, how 'bout you? Wet: I still smell overwhelming bubblegummy lotus. After 10: It's still overwhelmingly lotus, but it's a bit darker now, almost as if it's ripening After 20: I still have mostly lotus. A bit of a ripe lotus, but that's it. I don't smell amber or citrus. But, I think that's my body chemistry for you. It gets a wee hit of lotus and amps it to the Nth degree. Stupid chemistry! Alas, forbidden fruit, you are not for me.

Sacred Whore of Babylon Vial: Bittersweet. Somehow chocolate, somehow not. Wet: There's so much going on here that I can't tell what I'm smelling. It seems to change every second. There's a definate almost banana laden musk happening in here. But, it can't be banana because it doesn't reek. HATE banana smells unless I'm eating one. LOL I think it's a very buttery vanilla mingled with some very interesting spices. Hmm! After 10: Wow. It's a warm, exotic, and buttery vanilla. Smelling it is so nice, so erotic that I can't tell if I want to eat my hand or rub on it suggestively. Yum! After 20: This is so decadent, so sensual, and just so darn lovely. And if I think it smells this good on me, I have a feeling that it'd smell purely godlike on my much adored significant other. Jesus, if he was wearing this, he could have me on a whim! *swoons*

Danube Vial: Tart and citrus-y. Grapefruit, I Think. Which is very interesting since there isn't any grapefruit listed. Skin: We have grapefruit! No, it's changing now to a salty, fresh aquatic happening here. I'm liking this. After 10: This is the best of cool, aquatic florals. It's sweet, but in a fresh way. Still almost fruity, but it doesn't have that overtly candyish sweetness to it. It's probably silly to say it, but smelling it is right now the olfactory equivalent of looking at Monet's Waterlily paintings. Well, the two I've seen anyway. It's colorful, dark, lush, wet, and sweet. I hope this doesn't turn because each smell of my skin where I've applied it causes me to curl my toes in delight. After 20: This is still nothing but delight. It hasn't changed much from the ten minute sniff except perhaps to grow fuller and more lush in that wet, waterlily sweet way. I love this because it's sweet, but not cotton candyish, and floral without being soapy floral or generic old lady floral. It's just gorgeous. The small dab on my hand lifts my spirits and makes me feel pretty and, don't laugh, girlish in a way. Oh, the hills are alive. *sniffs self* Also, I'm glad that I'm not the only one that initially smelled grapefruit here. I thought I'd popped a vital vein or something. LOL

Hmm. I seem to be having better luck with this one than most so far. On first sniff, it's buttery and sharp. Woodsmoke and almond. Wet it's about the same for 2 minutes and then it starts to soften. The blossoms come out lightly to play and the cider and pumpkin start wafting up. It doesn't have much staying power on me, however, and needs to be reapplied about every 2-3 hours, but it's worth it. The second to last stage is a soft, spicey pumpkin laced with light woodsmoke and something vaguely boozy-like cider with a kick. It's LOVELY. Then on the final drydown, it's soft, spicey pumpkin with a powdery, floral overlay. It's all quite nice on me and I enjoy it a lot. It makes me feel very much in the mood for the season. It makes me want to be outside in the fall weather (which we're not having-we're stuck in some weird summer), smelling the leaves at night, catching glimpses of the swollen, fat moon through the trees, and seeing all of the colors of fall as lit by the moonlight. You know I enjoy it if I wax poetic.

I've worn Dragon's Tears all day and, while it's all but gone unless I deeply sniff my wrists, I have to say that I have loved it from the moment I put it on. It's so far my favorite dragon's blood scent. And I want more of it so that I can slather and reapply. YUMMY.

Holy Myrrh and Currant, Batman! It was a heady, well nigh pickled scent when I gave the vial a good sniff. And on I smelled positively, erotically heathen. (See "a good thing".) Now it's settled down and has a powderish cast to it, but a very spicey one. As if you made baby powder from myrrh and currant and a touch of clove (even though there isn't any clove). I shall definately enjoy wearing this imp!

The first whiff I had of this was sharp and laden with a dead, wooden twang I did not care for. The second sniff was much nicer. Now, after having had it on for about an hour, all I can say with any clarity is that I love it. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It smells, to me, a lot like the Apple Cider candle that I bought from B&BW. It's a lovely autumn scent and it just makes me very happy. I'm going to add it to the "buy more" list. *G*

This is a lovely, lovely oil. Not only does it smell so good, but wearing it just feels good. I'm working an extra shift at work today (to fill my horn o'plenty once it's payday) and I've recieved unexpected gifts twice today. One of which was a Halloween candle (Halloween and autumn anything are my favorites) and the other was a tube of Cotton Blossom body cream from B&BW. And, what's surprising, is how nicely the Cotton Blossom an the Horn of Plenty meld together. I've been laying off my body creams (love them as I do) because I didn't want to interfere with the scent of my Bpal. Stupid me, I should have been seeing which ones go well together. As for the scent of the oil, it's divine beyond belief. It's a dark, twangy almond. And, yes, I smell a tad of vanilla. But it's like a toasted, roasted, or burned vanilla. Perhaps a little tobacco leaf as well. It's just such a nice scent and one that I was quite surprised by. So, I think it holds well as both a voodoo blend and as a good smelling scent. (And because I'm silly like that, I'm going to buy a lottery ticket after work! LOL) Edited to add: This oil was a free gift from the lab. I can't thank them enough!

Kitsune-Tsuki First whiff: Beer? What the? Second whiff: I must be on crack. No beer just sweet and floral and fruity. All good. Drying: It's lovely. It reminds me of, bear with me, the scent of the giant sized lip smackers tube circa the mid-80s. You know the kind. It was a dark, sort of slutty mulberry pink tube with carnation pink lib balm in it. This is that smell. And, association or no, it's a delight!

What a delightful scent. On me this is buttery coconut with a slight, cool floral undertone. It's truly a beautiful creation. I could bathe in this stuff.

Val San Retour Vial: Wow. Sharp juniper, pine, and citrus. What a job it did clearing my sinuses! Wet: Sharp, sharp pine, After a bit: I smell like a fresh cut Christmas tree. It's really quite nice and invigorating. It may not be quite for me. But, I'm glad to have sampled it and love that it was a freebie from the lab. Again-thanks, Lab! Btw, this would make a fabulous room scent for the holidays. I'm normally a little better on reviews, but I was distracted by babbling about Trek with a friend on ICQ and completely forgot to sniff myself at the appropriate times. Ah, the perils of being a geek.

Lightening Vial: Ohhh, yeah, baby. It smells like a storm. Sweet, but in that purpled light kind of way. My first whiff evoked a "Hmmmmmmmmmm!" Wet: Rain dampened flowers, ozone, and a very lovely freshness. After 10: Oh, this is just lovely. I don't get a bathroom cleaner smell to it or any lemon. It does, however, remind me very much of Yankee's Stormwatch, but not quite as powerful. After 20: Very fresh, very clean, very charged and electric watery scent. I love it quite a bit. There's a note starting to emerge now that really adds to the stormy aspect of it. I somehow get an image of hydrangea pushed almost flat to the earth because it's raining so hard.

Sudha Segara Vial: Mild and sweet. Something in it reminds me of my grandmother's house. It's very pleasant. Wet: There's something green to it, like the leaves of flower. But, it's mostly creamy with a sort of spiced honey to it. After 10: It smells like a creamy, honey spiced milk bath. Which, of course, is the point! I just want to soak in the scent of it. After 20: It's just heavenly. The florals are very faint, dominated by the ginger spiced, honied milky creamyness. I can see it as a very good fragrance for a day where you need to maintain your calm and be at peace. I'm quite pleased that the lab sent me a free imp of this with my order. Thanks, lab!!

Aureus Vial: Warm and woody. It smells like black amber and sandalwood or cedar to me. Wet: It instantly gets more woody and more resiny. Definately cedar and it's NICE. After 10: This is just gorgeous. It's the perfect wood scent. It's so clean and golden. It smells so costly and refined. After 20: It's still perfect. It reminds me a lot of the sandalwood blend from Dragonfly Blue. It's truly lovely! And now, after a bit, the amber is peeking back though. I love this scent and want a big bottle of it. It's such a comforting and warm smell. It's sunlight, it's fresh, and it's clean in a very natural and wooden way.

Blood Amber Woohoo! Up and coming! And one with both amber AND dragon's blood. Oh, but I am the happy wench now. And, wow, that's one full vial! Vial: First whiff is the dragon's blood, as with seemingly all dragon's blood scents. But, when I sniffed again, there was that warm glow of amber. And that's when I realized that it wasn't as sweet as a lot of dragon's blood scents. Which is nifty. Sometimes I find them nice, but overpoweringly sweet. I could just be in some serious love here. Wet: A lovely blend of amber and db resin. Right now, it's like a contest is being waged upon my flesh. Do we go sweet? Or do we go warm and resiny? After 10: It's dragon's blood with amber. It's not as bang-your-head sweet as most dbr scents. I think the amber might just stand up and take control here. After 20: You know, it's really about the most perfect blend of amber and dragon's blood. The blood sweetens the amber and the amber tempers the blood and warms it up. It's a lush, warm, and sweet scent. I'm enjoying it! And having had this on one hand and Aureus on the other, I have to say that the two layered would be positively drool-worthy.
