Best BPALs for SUMMER - is it hot, sweltering, sticky outside?
sweetjane replied to Donnababe's topic in Recommendations
I second Embalming Fluid for the summer. This one lasts on me and the lemon/tea/white musk are not heavy. I've been wearing if for three years and have never gotten tired of it. I usually can only wear white musk as the others are obtrusive on me. I just started wearing High Strung Daisies [Mad Tea Party] this winter, but I think she will transition beautifully to summer wearing also. It's daisies, pink pepper, pink carnation and sugar I think. As for insects-I garden nearly every day in the summer. I haven't had a problem but I am also not allergic to bees or wasps. Oh, for an early spring...it's zero degrees here today. -
What about Christmas Rose, an LE from 2007 I think. I love this one and there is no mint in it. Point of information, the Christmas rose refers to hellebore, not rose. When I wear this I smell snow, but other people often comment that they smell incense or wood smoke. I've even had people tell me it smells like when they attend Mass. I've been able to buy bottles on the Forum to keep myself happy. I was hoping it would come back out this year. I still have a hard time knowing what the Lab's snow smells like. I like the idea of wearing snow scents in winter though.

In the bottle Detestable Putrescence has a buttery-vanilla smell to me. Once it's on my skin the butter mellows and I get a rich vanilla that works for me. I'm not fond of foody scents so I'm glad the butter or cream fades on me. I can definitely see this layered with something else that you like. Still, it won't replace O as my favorite general vanilla or Defututa as my favorite floral vanilla. This is a nice change and I'm glad I have a bottle!

This is my first time to try Snow Flakes. I get mint with something green and cool but not spearmint. Sort of reminiscent to Ultraviolet in my mind, but it's been a long time since I tried Ultraviolet. Could this green be some type of violet leaf? I had a bottle of Snow White last year and Snow Flakes does not seem similar to me. Snow White was definitely floral on me. Snow Flakes is cool, minty, green. I am now unclear what "snow" smells like. I have Christmas Rose from two years ago and I thought that was a "snow". I like the Snow Flakes and will use up the bottle for sure. Looking forward to more reviews to pin down the green.

Thanksgiving - not sure. I don't respond well to the autumnal scents on me though I like 'em on other people. Winter Equinox - Snow Flakes or Black Forest Christmas - Christmas Rose or Snow Flakes New Years Eve - Snow Flakes or Blood Rose Winter Season - all the above plus Defututa for it's warm, smoky vanilla! This is my first time getting Snow Flakes, so I hope I like it. In addition I have an imp of Yew Trees coming, so it could go into the winter season rotation. It's possible for my location to have snow any time now or well, ice storms.

Winter smells and scents, including the perfect winter forest
sweetjane replied to Fury's topic in Recommendations
I wear Black Forest in the winter. I would definitely call it gender neutral. It smells like pine/balsam trees with no "snow". I love to wear it at the holidays especially when I'm out walking in the woods or decorating for the holidays. I just got a bottle for the upcoming season; I used up a bottle last winter. [i slather] Good luck on your decision. -
High Strung Daisies is pink pepper, sugar and carnation to me. This is a great every day scent for me. Some florals are too light on me, this one is sweet but also just a small amount of spice to make it deeper. Sometimes carnation can be too much for me, but this is perfect. I had nothing to compare it to as I haven't smelled Pink Moon 07. However, I did use Candy Phoenix last year and that was much, much stronger than this. I've begun a love affair with many sugared scents and Daisies works great for me. It wafts enough for me to smell it but doesn't seem to carry much to others. Which works for me so that I can wear it to yoga without the scent bugging other people.

Embalming Fluid is one of my top 5 scents. I never would have tried it because the name just doesn't appeal to me. However a friend encouraged me to test hers and I am so glad I did. The green tea, lemon and white musk are definitely summery. And though I live in a four seasons region, I wear Embalming Fluid any time of the year when I want to put myself in a summer frame of mind. Plus, it's not overpowering so I can wear it to yoga class without bothering people near me. I've tried Eternal but too much floral doesn't seem to last on me. Love the lemony goodness of Embalming Fluid.

Serpents with Glittering Eyes and Forky Tongues
sweetjane replied to IronMollyBlack's topic in Discontinued Scents
Serpentine green herbs, glistening red currant, sparkling yellow lemon rind, green musk, lime, and snakeskin. I'm not great at isolating some of these ingredients. What comes out to me is a crisp limey citrus that is very green. Maybe I am smelling green musk, not sure. While I did like 51, it didn't last on me. Serpents lasts much longer and I see this becoming my "green" scent which I've been searching for. This smells very unisex to me, not sweet at all. Even though it's September as I'm wearing this, I am enjoying the green. I'm glad I have a bottle to slather. -
Have you looked at Defututa olive blossom, honey, smoky vanilla, cinnamon, jasmine, sandalwood, and champaca flower? I love vanilla and this is a warm, slightly floral vanilla to me. I wear O and Defututa regularly. Some of the other suggestions didn't work at all for me; I either couldn't smell the vanilla or the woodiness overwhelmed the vanilla.

Sexy, Smutty, Seductive, Provocative... It's All in Here
sweetjane replied to ipb's topic in Recommendations
Hmmm, I seldom get compliments from men about specific scents-it's more a recognition of "you smell good". But from women, the one that gets compliments most often is Defututa. I wear O also, and I think they're both sexy. So when I'm going to be romancing, I go for one of these. To me, Defututa is flowers added to O. -
Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love
sweetjane replied to any_old_actress's topic in Recommendations
Finding a scent for Fall has been difficult because I don't like foodie things and when I've tried the Pumpkins in the past, they were too much. I'll be watching for other GC recommendations. In the past I did wear Lampades, but for some reason it doesn't fit for me now. I'm going to check out White Rabbit though. My difficulty could aslo be that I'm really a summer person and my heart is still loving June & July. -
LOVE. The fruit is predominate on me with the pineapple or papaya coming out a lot. I think the flowers are buffering the fruit, but I can't pick out individual florals and I do not smell vanilla at all. The fruit has some sort of tartness that could be the pineapple again. This is lovely and summery and I will use this every day when I'm vacationing next month on Sanibel Island. Will probably require a second bottle! Be Yummy & Sweet Smelling.

Great question...sometimes I wear untested oils because when I'm outside there is more opportunity for the scent to dissipate and if it's something I really don't like then I'm not too overwhelmed with it. Embalming Fluid is always a good one for me because it doesn't compete with other smells in the garden. This year I'm going to try Shango because it smells summery to me. I tried Strangler Fig but didn't like it in general on me. One that I would like to try is Prague [crocus & somethings]. It just sounds like a good garden scent. My garden is fairly well scented with plants but I always want my own scent floating around me. The poster who wears Amsterdam has now made me think I should get that also!

Snow White 2008 This scent smells the same on me as it does in the bottle. I've worn it for two days of testing and to my nose it's a cool floral with a smidge of vanilla, but not a lot. It reminds me of Regan because it's such a light floral but Regan has more vanilla to me [orchid vanille & stephanotis]. I wore Regan during the summer and Snow White definitely lasts much longer. I like Snow White a lot although I thought this "snow" would smell similar to the "snow" in Christmas Rose. [it doesn't] I agree with an earlier review that said it's an unobtrusive scent. I could wear this to yoga class or work and no one would have a negative scent reaction. This may be one of the few light florals that lasts a reasonable amount of time on me. I'm glad I got a bottle because I love to slather and this scent is a happy one to live in. Stay yummy and sweet-smelling.
