    Traveling with BPAL

I've travelled twice to the US from the UK this year and both times put my imps in the ziplock bag that goes through the scanner. No-one questioned them so I'm assuming that's an okay thing to do now. Hope that helps!

    The Brides of Dracula

In the imp - Sweeter than I'd have thought, very white floral. Wet - The flowers are tramping all over each other in a battle for supremacy, very fierce floral! Drydown - A sweetness comes through after about ten minutes as the florals soften but I get absolutely no amber or plum blossom Also there's a definite metallic edge which could be my skin chemistry this week This is a strong oil, one application lasted all day. Leaves a skin scent of honey. I'll try again and hope for more plum.

    Rage

In the imp - Sweet and dark and fruity. This is a lovely rich orangy-red oil. Wet - Definite resin base although at this point I can't tell it has any Dragon's Blood. Dry....and hold on jasmine rearing its head and stomping over everything else. Drydown - On wearing the Dragon's Blood rises a little and there is a slight tartness from the blackcurrant I suspect, but on the whole it's jasmine all the way and it just doesn't like me at all! Off to swaps.

    Undertow

In the imp - Mint with a note I can't identify. Wet - The mint seems like spearmint now and there is a woody base with a hint of citrus. Drydown - Here comes the juniper to drown out the mint and the woody note is lotus. This has an Asian feel similar to Aizen-Myoo with an underlying spice. As it dried I detected wafts of what can only be decribed as Crayola wax...I see I'm not the only one! Not for me so off to swaps.

    King Cobra (2006)

Snake Oil with orris, frankincense, and copal. In the imp - Snake Oil with a hint of fruit? Wet - The Snake Oil is quite mild and that tang of fruit is actually sweet resin. This one is hard to pin down, it's very quiet for a snake and is slightly sweet, slightly soft and slightly creamy with a grounding of resin/wood. Drydown - Some smoky dustiness as it wears due to the frankincense but still very unassuming and it fades out quite quickly. Lovely in its own right but too light for me, although I will keep and use my imp Edited to add lab description.

BPAL blends that remind us of Chanel perfumes

seconding Rouge's comment that Ozymandias is very like Chanel No 5!

    Wanda

Along with Loviatar, she has become something of a Patron Goddess of all Dominatrixes, Wanda is the breathtakingly beautiful sable-wrapped marble queen of Sacher-Masoch's fantasies. Her scent is a deep red merlot with a faint hint of leather, sexual musk and body heat over crushed roses, violets and myrtle. This one was a frimpie that I was excited to try as I wanted to test out the lab's leather note. In the imp - Sweet cherry or plum with an edge of something potent that I can't put a name to. Wet - There's a woodiness surfacing to drown the fruit and the note I couldn't pin down is battering everything else into submission! Definitely musty, is that the musk or the leather or maybe the grape? Drydown - The dominant note continues to thrive and top. I'm not sure if it is the leather. I need to try another blend with this in to find out. It was good to try but Wanda is destined to the swap pile! Edited to add Lab description.

    The Knave of Hearts

In the imp - Treacle, knock your socks off sweet! Wet - Almost the same as in the imp. At this stage it is just pure dessert! Drydown - Buttered caramel with loads of throw. I smell like a confectioner's kitchen Up close I can just detect some rose with a tartness from the blackcurrants but they are definitely losing the battle. Okay, I admit I had to wash this off as the sweetness was too much. This reminded me of Tokyo Stomp in that the caramel amped bigtime (not that caramel is a note in TS!) Skin chemistry, sheesh....

    Croquet

In the imp - Very citrus with an undertone of something else Wet - Oh lovely lime/grapefruit with a scattering of some floral and a grounding of wood to make it all sensible. Dry down - This is very zingy thanks to the citrus notes. I can't pick out the floral but it's lurking around definitely and the wood tone must be from the patchouli. This is a very well blended creature. Unfortunately the citrus edge died pretty quickly and left me with what can best be described as a metallic after thought...it smelled like I imagine blood would taste I'll keep this one and try it in a scent locket as the first stage is very pretty and spring like.

    Ladon

In the imp - Lovely dark peach oil and whoa sniff 100% fruit. Wet - The fruit are apples, of course. This is a delicate scent and no matter how I inhale I don't get any Dragon's Blood, which I adore. Drydown - The apple in this almost smells like apple peelings, zingy and tart but with the promise of what's underneath just beckoning. It isn't morphing at all as it dries. I'm not familiar with hyacinth but there is a floral which I assume is that and it's rather lovely. I like Ladon but it fades very quickly on my skin One for the locket if I ever get around to choosing one!

    Fallen

In the imp - a sweet floral but not overpowering Wet - Oh no, is that jasmine I smell? jasmine amps on me and generally turns to soap I get an underpinning of some wood too. Drydown - This is quite complex with no one note dominant. It's floral, then woodsy, then green, than a mish mash of all. I didn't detect any vetiver. This one confused me and didn't last long before disappearing. I'll try it again before relegating it to the swap pile though.

    Delphi

In the imp this had a sweet, but unusual note. The sweetness must be from the honey wine. Wet - Still sweet, but with a punch of something herbal. Drydown - The herbal note strengthens and is very green, there is something in here that doesn't agree with my skin chemistry at all. It just doesn't smell 'right'. Had to wash this one off, so it's gone to swaps to be appreciated by someone else.

    Dragon's Heart

In the imp - Mmmnn, Dragon's Blood Wet - This is a lovely, thick, dark oil. I detect another resin in this when wet and a definite dry feel. Drydown - The warmth comes through to dance with the dryness and the other resin I found is in fact a musk I'm not too good at working out these notes yet This oil doesn't change much at all through wear. It's quite long lasting, one wand swipe per wrist lasting 4 hrs and has a decent amount of throw. I kept getting wafts and I smelled delicious!

    Yves St. Laurent Opium smell-alike?

I've found Languor to be close to YSL Opium - Paperwhite and black narcissus, three lilies, black poppy and tuberose and a hint of hypnotic opium den haze. I have Horreur Sympathique and really like it but don't find it similar to Opium. All our skin chemistries are different though!

    Seraphim

In the imp - This is a sweet floral with a hint of tang as though a few drops of citrus are trying to break out. Wet - I can detect rose with a grounding of wood that is fairly strong. Drydown - This is very much a multi-layered scent. The wood and a definite floral are the strongest notes but there are also wafts of green and some sweetness, and surprisingly a hint of dryness. After an hour or so this settles into a much smokier blend as the florals seem to take a back seat. I like this stage On the whole a very complex oil and one that I'll keep an imp around for when the mood takes me!

    Rapture

In the imp - Sweet and floral Wet - A very prominent 'in your face' note, probably the jasmine. Drydown - I can detect hints of the rose and a certain greeness but it's still jasmine all the way. This has turned to soap, and not even the expensive kind I'm coming to the conclusion that jasmine and I don't get along, but if it loves you this will be a winner!

    Libertine

In the imp - A sweet floral Wet - Oh yes, rose and a certain green feel. Drydown - This dries to a very soft, definitely pink rose, but with a wood foundation for strength. The musk joins the dance about an hour in and makes this a very surprising winner for me! I don't normally mesh with the lab's rose and wouldn't have tried this if it hadn't been a frimp!

    Velvet

I tried Velvet after a less than pleasant experience with Saw Scaled Viper. In the imp - this was light and sweet with a hint of nut this was troubling as that was what had disagreed with me in SSV but after reading reviews I see that a few people get nut too Wet - some chocolate/cocoa coming through with maybe a hint of floral Drydown - first the chocolate stays with a base of wood pencil shavings come to mind. After about half an hour the vanilla muscles in to cream with the chocolate and the wood settles to a faint base. I'm beginning to like this more than Bliss which has a high note that makes my nose wrinkle. Velvet stays creamy/chocolate/wood all through its wear and is quite long lasting as a skin scent. It's not 5ml material but I'll definitely keep my imp for when I want to indulge in something foody!

    Saw-Scaled Viper

Well, this baby was a big surprise... First of all I adore Snake Oil and every companion I've tried so far I have liked, even Green Tree Viper which fades quicker than breathing on me. In the imp all I got from SSV was whoa...NUT overload! Wet it was still nut, the kind of smell you would get from ones shelled and left somewhere damp for a week. After ten minutes or so the ginger flares up and the warmth begins to show but I actually had to wash this off as I couldn't stomach the nut Definite swap pile.

    The Perfumed Garden

I'm not really a floral girl although I thought I was pre-BPAL! This one is a sweet floral in the imp with no definite note. Wet there is a note striving for prominence, myrhh, the jasmine maybe? A trace of apple rears its head also. This dries down to a lovely mixed floral with a wood edge, perfect for my sense of what's good It's my favourite floral, go figure, as it's LE!

    Frumious Bandersnatch

In the imp - Oh lovely, spiced carnation! Wet - Carnation with plum and something else, especially on my right wrist blinks Drydown - A beautifully juicy, full bodied blend. On me it is swollen to bursting plum sprinkled with carnation spice and held together by the mystery note. It's very like Bathsheba, which I love, but more 'in your face'. This seems to throw for a couple of hours and then disappears. But it's well worth reapplying. I may need to get a 5ml of this

    Morocco

Like WidgetAlley I was expecting a much darker golden or reddish oil. This was surprise Number 1! In the imp - a heady sweetness but it's not at all cloying Wet - A warm, golden softness arises with wafts of vanilla. There are spices here but it's so beautifully blended that they sway in the background rather than dance. Drydown - This isn't an 'in your face' oil at all, rather it whispers, but it lasts for many hours for all of its gentleness. It didn't change on me the whole time I was wearing it. Yes, Morocco, you surprised me but I'm putting you on my 5ml list!

    Thanatopsis

This was a frimp so I had no idea on application what was in it! In the imp - Mmm, resin/wood with a touch of sweetness. Wet - Sweetness disappears to leave the same resiny/wood but with a pine kick that is almost menthol. Drydown - A lovely resiny pine with a touch of musk to hold it altogether. I think I've discovered a new juniper in both this and Golden Priapus seem to like me, even though they are both masculine scents This would be perfect for a day outdoors hiking

    Bien Loin D'Ici

On first sniff in the imp, a sweet floral..whoa wondering where that came from looking at the notes Wet - Oh, I can pick out the honey now along with other familiars that I can't quite name. Drydown - This was a true morpher, going from a floral spice to slightly green, then slightly soapy growls at my skin, then musky metallic After a few hours it mellowed out into quite a warm, wearable blend but I'm not sure of its antics beforehand! May keep it to try again.

    Sin

In the imp - resin/wood with cinnamon and a smidge of cocoa Wet - Goes on very similar, very dry and earthy. Drydown - This is an incensey blend that doesn't change much at all on my skin, it's warm and sultry and quite long lasting (2 applications lasted all day) I like it more than I did on first try a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to keep my imp and see how it grows on me
