Amor, To Show That He Was Pleased, Approvingly (In Silence) Sneezed
mishi-bear replied to Seajewel's topic in Lupercalia
The wrist sniff of this is close to other reviews. Not really any lemon on me, more like a vanilla cookie with some honey sweet florals. The throw however is... coconut sun screen, or lotion. I don't usually amp coconut or anything so it's a strange outcome. It almost smells like it has shea in it as well. If this smelled like the wrist sniff on me the entire time, I'd adore it, but alas. Don't really need a coconut sun screen scent. -
not too much 'cookie' to my nose, more vanilla and oak. reminds me a lot of Haloes.

Buttery warm vanilla caramel. Very heavily foodie, delicious smelling.

White rose! Very very white rose. A sort of waterier, paler rose. The spice from the clove makes it smell almost like a carnation. Does go a bit soapy on me but is overall all right.

The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter
mishi-bear replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Good Omens
On initial application this smells a lot like incense and a fancy hand soap to me, but with some wear time it mellows out and I can get what it's going for. I think what initially reads as 'hand soap' to my nose is a mix of the paper, a mild leather note, and the herbs. There is a sort of incense tone to the background of this, which might be the gunpowder? It has a powdery quality to it. With further wear time it becomes a paper heavy book smell, with whiffs of herbal notes and gunpowder, and a hint of leather.- 3 replies

Lemon, vanilla, and a very fruity pebbles smelling bergamot. Pleasant and sour-sweet, but this had very low throw and wear time on me.

I'll be honest in that I'm one of few who normally hates the Lace blends, something about the tobacco in them is a tobacco that does NOT sit well on my skin. Still I'm a sucker for anything to do with 'puppy musk', so I gave this a try, and I'm glad I did. The tobacco in this is the tobacco that i actually do like, a warmer and richer more caramelized tobacco. It has a sort of butterscotch or butter rum smell to it that I just adore, made even more rich and warm by the honey and labdanum. Definitely sweeter and more foody than I thought it would be. The musk is mild but present, but I can't say I get any cognac or any spun sugar, and barely any vanilla.

I often avoid scents that mention jasmine in the notes because it's usually a screaming high pitched floral note that overwhelms the rest of the scent and gives me a headache... but in this blend, the jasmine behaves itself wonderfully. Lovely notes of candied florals (mostly the violet, but yes, the jasmine is here too) riding a wave of soft sheer vanilla on a bed of clean refreshing tea. Very pretty, very feminine, definitely a good spring and summer blend.

I like oudh, a lot. I've had some oudh heavy scents that I've loved before. This oudh, however, is 100% horse manure to my nose. Really funky, really unpleasant. Oh well.

Well, this is the first time I've gotten to experience the dreaded "baby doll head" scent from a BPAL. This is entirely fakey strawberry scented soft plastic on my skin.

This scent is really hard for me to wrap my head around to give a concise review. I didn't really know what to expect heading in, but it's still beyond what I thought it'd be. There's definitely a stone note to this, sort of sweet, very architectural. A bit damp? I get something in the background that is like a light clean tea. There's also a hint of woodiness from the teak, but most of the woodiness in this blend seems to be predominantly from the oudh, which is woody and a bit musky. The russet musk is very hard for me to describe... It does have a light fruitiness to it, and I can see where an above reviewer picked it out as plum. But it's not -really- fruity smelling. Just vaguely. A hint of something warm and brown... Overall this scent is very interesting and not quite like anything I've smelled from BPAL before. Very unisex smelling. Nice throw and longevity to it as well.

Heart-Shaped Beanie on the Metro

Lovely and sweet pink rose with some sweet citrusy orange blossom giving the rose more depth. The rose in this definitely reminds me of the rose in Cinq as well. As the blend dries the sweetness smells more like a distinct granulated sugar note, and the orange blossom comes out a bit more. -
Very dead leaf heavy. Bitter, vegetal, a bit cologney. The sugar cookies do sweeten up the blend considerably though. Warm, bready, with a toasty sugar smell. You do have to like the Dead Leaves scent to like this one though... which I do not. It's just too much.

Lots of tart fruit at the top. Mostly the raspberry here. It's very nice, fairly realistic. The red currant is a bit sweeter than the raspberry but a lot more mild overall. I get it on wrist sniff but not really in the throw. The goat's milk is sort of tangy in a way as well. Borderline yogurty but not quite. It's not as tangy and has a bit of creamy sweetness to it that's more milky. Overall this is a pretty nice scent, but definitely sour.

The pumpkin to this smells very raw. Almost yammy, pulpy, orange. The honey powder is interesting. It definitely has that honey sweetness but is definitely a powder. Has a sort of make up or talcum powder scent to it, which has a distinct sweetness of its own alongside the honey sweetness. Also makes this smell a touch 'clean'. Overall I actually dig this one quite a bit. You definitely have to be someone who is into powder scents to like this though.

There's good amount of pomegranate initially. A juicy fruity smell. It does fade quickly though, leaving behind just the plain Alice.

Lots of very rich heavy milk to this blend, definitely butter like. Not as sour or yogurty like the other goat's milk scents I've tried. This is more creamy and mellow but still very rich. The honey sweetens this blend up considerably. It's resinous, sweet, golden. Very pretty. Something in this reminds me of bread. Like hot rolls and honey butter. Something yeasty? There is a hint of a fruit or something I can't entirely place in this. The nectar? Nondescript holiday fruit. Something about it smells autumnal. Maybe cranberry? It's mild. There's also a vague nuttiness, and spices. Overall I really like this one even though it is a bit rich and heavy.

On application of this blend the caramelized sugar notes come forward the most. Syrupy and sweet. Thankfully not too cloying. Sometimes I have a hard time with sugar notes, especially if they smell too burnt. Thankfully here though it mostly smells like a caramel with a tiny hint of something reminding me of maple syrup. There is a nice creaminess here as well. Rich and sweet, not too milky smelling though. The milkiness I think is mostly covered by the vanilla. The vanilla bean is lovely and actually quite gourmand in here. Not at all a perfumey vanilla bean, this has a sort of vanilla bean ice cream scent going on for it. Very nice. There is a fair amount of pumpkin smell here. It's not an especially realistic pumpkin in this blend, a little bit too much sweetness to it that makes it a little autumn candle smelling, but it's covered up a lot by the other notes so it's not especially bad and doesn't stand out much. Overall I actually like this one quite a bit. I wouldn't really call it a pumpkin smell necessarily though.

Very powdery smelling with a hint of rosiness. There's also something cologne like, though it does fade. There's also just a tiny kiss of citrus from the lime. Very mild after it's dried, mostly just powdery.

Pomegranate hand soap on top of Embalming Fluid. Then the handsoap fades considerably and is just a weird fruity tinge in the background of the Embalming Fluid.
-
2018 version. A good amount of cherry, accompanied by a sweet blackberry note. Both are pretty realistic and work well together. A bit of creaminess shows up a little bit after application. It definitely smells like a very 'pink' cream from the fruit notes, like a filling inside a dessert. This is a pleasant scent, and I think if you like the fruit notes, it's worth trying this.
-
Strongly tobacco smelling, like the tobacco in the Lace blends. There's just a hint of a rose tinge to that tobacco note. I do get a bit of the clay note which is nice. Earthy and sweet. I get no tonka or oudh at all.

2018 version. Lots of sweet orange at the top. Not a realistic orange, more like an orange liqueur. That sits alongside some lovely custard. Creamy, sweet, milky, and very rich. There's a bit of a cake note, but it is mild. Sweet and bready. Actually pretty realistic. The floral notes are very mild. Sweet florals, but hard to suss out under the custard note. I honestly get no anise. I actually really liked this one, but it fades within a half an hour on my skin. Basically no longevity.

This one was really funky on me and not in a good way. I really liked the oudh note in this, but the pumpkin musk kills it. It's a sort of artificial candle pumpkin, sweet and waxy. Funky and gross.
